N8 Anna: QWERTY keyboard no longer supports accent...

Looks like on Anna the QWERTY keyboard no longer allows you to enter many of the accented characters the old kb did. For me, this was one of the joys of the old kb: I could spell my Polish and Czech friends' names correctly, and I could easily text in Norwegian (my 2nd language).
On Anna, although we have å, ä, ó, ß and so on (major west-Euro languages, Swedish) and even Icelandic þ and ð, I am missing æ and ø, so that kills Norwegian. Welsh support's also gone.
(Norwegian æ and ø are available from the alphanumeric keypad, true, but not the others.)
Boo, Nokia. Boo.

  • French accents on QWERTY keyboards

Short of changing my keyboard or adopting the time-consuming methods for inserting French accents when using a QWERTY keyboard (I use them now and they slow me down enormously), is there a way to reprogram[?] some keys on my MacBook Pro so they input the more common accents - à, è, é at a single keystroke?

I don't know how long this has been available; ebay now lets you submit a review for the cellphone you bought.
While sometimes the review is about the experience(s) with the seller, most of the reviews are for the cellphone itself.
Say you're looking for reviews for an LG enV2. Type "LG enV2" and the first lisiting is a summary of the current auction listings. Don't click on an individual ebay auction. Look at the last line of the summary -- it'll list how many reviews have been submitted. Click on that and then scroll about half way down the page to read the reviews.

  • Matias Keyboard No Longer Recognized by Leopard PB G4 But By Tiger

In February I took a month long trip with my Leopard-based PB G4 and Matias folding USB Keyboard. Everything worked together fine until after my return in early March when I noticed that the keyboard no longer worked with my laptop. Since my return I have received the normal Apple-push updates to my system. I tested the keyboard on my daughter's Dell laptop and it worked fine. I checked the keyboard with a friend's Leopard-based MacBook but to no avail. I called Apple Tech support and they initially informed me that it was not a Leopard issue because all third-party hardware should be automatically recognized by the computer. They also walked me through doing a reset of the computer to bring it back to original operating configuration. I contacted Matias who had their senior engineer look into the USB-capable keyboard and said they are not aware of any problems between the keyboard and Leopard. They also did not have a patch to push to me to get it connecting again but I will be keeping in contact with them about this. I brought my computer into an Apple store only to have them confirm that the keyboard is not being recognized by the USB drives, but there was nothing else they could do for me. I had the USB drives checked out a seperate computer store authorized to work on Apple computers and they both worked fine. At home, nothing that runs through the USB ports is NOT being recognized, everything works fine. While at the same computer store I found an older iMac using Tiger (10.4.7) and successfully tested it there after going through the normal syncing process. But on NONE of their Leopard-based Macs did it work which leads me to believe it is somehow related to either Leopard or an update everyone has received. While the folding keyboard may have only cost $99, I am hesitant to spend $75 for a service call at an authorized repair shop, and they advise me to re-consider having to visit them. Only because it is a great travel accessory for me to work on longer papers and projects rather than the laptop's own keyboard do I want to get this one working with my computer rather than buying another one. So my questions are, 1) how do I individually disable the updates received since March to determine which one is affecting recognition of the keyboard, and 2) why would the keyboard continue to work with Tiger and Dell but not on any Leopard-based Mac? Apple Tech's comments are primarily "it's not a Leopard issue, I should go somewhere else" to get it checked out.
    The updates since March are:
    Battery Update 1.4
    Airport Client Update 2009-001
    Airport Utility 5.4.1
Time Capsule and Airport Base Station Firmware Update 7.4.1
    Front Row 2.1.7
    iPhoto 8.0.2 Update
    iLife Support 9.0.2
    iWeb 3.0.1
    iWork 09 9.0.1
    iTunes 8.1.1 for Mac
    iMovie 8.0.2
    Server Admin Tools 10.5.6v1.1
Any assistance from the community would be greatly appreciated.
    Rick

Hi, Richard. In answer to your first question, you don't and can't disable the updates you've installed unless you use Time Machine to back up your Powerbook's hard drive. If you do, you can step back in time to just before the last software update, and restore that configuration to your hard drive. Then repeat the process for each previous update. This will be ungodly time-consuming.
If you don't use Time Machine, all you can do is reinstall everything from scratch up to the last point at which you're sure your keyboard was working properly, and then add the subsequently-released updates one at a time until you discover the one that renders the keyboard useless. Then reinstall everything all over again from scratch except that one update.
If I were you and were facing this incredibly tedious diagnostic process, I'd either return to running Tiger or buy a different keyboard.

  • My Apple bluetooth keyboard no longer connects to my Macbook Pro

My wireless keyboard no longer connects to my Macbook using Bluetooth. I've put in fresh batteries, checked the on/off switch, and attempted to connected using system dialog. Also tried turning Bluetooth off and on. Nothing works. Wireless trackpad works fine.

You may need a wired keyboard to carry out some of these steps. It's a good idea to keep a cheap wired keyboard and mouse or trackball as backups for a desktop Mac anyway, because Bluetooth isn't completely reliable.
    Step 1
Follow the instructions in these support articles:
How to set up your Apple Wireless Keyboard
Apple Wireless Keyboard: Difficulty during pairing process
    Step 2
The keyboard should pair automatically when you reboot. You may have to press and hold the power button on the right side of an Apple keyboard until the LED starts flashing.
    Step 3
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 4
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Reboot.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    See these support articles:
Bluetooth keyboard may not pair during Setup Assistant
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: Potential sources of wireless interference
Bluetooth: Unreliable wireless performance may occur when USB 3.0 external devices are close
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Faulty Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard no longer turning on!

Hi, got a mini mac which i brought a few months ago, anyway the other day i turned it on (mainly use a pc) and the keyboard no longer switches on, ive changed the batteries etc.. but the 'on' light still doesnt light up. Ive looked all around the apple website for a phone number so i can call them up and send it back etc.. but i cant see it anywhere in the support pages!
I havent got the original receipt, will i still be ok returning it ????
Or is it easier to just take it to the main Apple store in regent street (live quite near) ?
    Cheers,
    Keith

    Hi Keith:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I think I would take it to the store. They can test it there to see if it is faulty. Apple should also have the information about your mini (take the serial number). I assume that the keyboard was purchased at the same time as your mini.

  • Sound keys on keyboard no longer control sound. What should I do to fix this?

Sound keys on keyboard no longer control sound. What should I do to fix this?

    Hey Bill,
Check to see if the option for "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys." is turned off. When it is turned on, you would need to hold the Fn key while hitting one of those keys will make it work they way icons are displayed. To find out where this option is, go to System Preferences > Keyboard and in the Keyboard tab is where you want to be. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • [SOLVED] Zynaddsubfx and qwerty keyboard

    Hello guys and girls!
I have a little trouble with zynaddsubfx   For a long time I was having fun with Zynaddsubfx and his awesome synths. I don't have any real musical (midi or usb, no matter) keyboard  and i played sounds with general qwerty keyboard. Zynaddsubfx previously worked on windows port and some other linux-based distros on my computer (for years never modified). But now here on Arch I can't play sounds with pc keyboard . Zynaddsubfx doesn't respond on almost all keys, except "6" and "7". But it is catastrophically small amount of keys to play with
I have installed Archlinux x64 and here the list of installed packages:
    zynaddsubfx 2.4.1-1
    alsa-firmware 1.0.23-1
    alsa-lib 1.0.23-1
    alsa-oss 1.0.17-1
    alsa-utils 1.0.23-2
    gnome-alsamixer 0.9.6-3
    alsa-plugins 1.0.23-1
    lib32-alsa-lib 1.0.23-2 (lib32)
    lib32-alsa-plugins 1.0.23-2 (lib32)
    jack 0.118.0-3
    timidity++ 2.13.2-9
    fluidsynth 1.1.1-2
I think the problem is wrong keymap(?) But i don't know where to fix it
And, please, don't tell me things like "go and buy some serious stuff (midi keyboard, real synthesizer etc etc)" bcause I am not a musician and I am just having fun with Zynaddsubfx.
    Thanks in advance

    Haha, I found a solution
It is simple as Arch must to be
Launch [System -> Settings -> Keyboard], then move english keymap to up until english keymap will be first in the keymap's list. And wow, now zynaddsubfx works like in good old days
Thanks to all, problem officially solved
P.S yes, of course when i click piano keys with mouse sound appears

  • Why can't I use special characters in my password? This isn't 1995 anymore where a lot of people don't have QWERTY keyboards.

Why does your site not allow the use of special characters in passwords? Do you not want your customers to be as secure as possible?
As a network security admin, limiting passwords to prohibit special characters is an extremely poor security practice.
Telling me that my security as a customer is important, then tell me that your own system limits my ability to keep my account as secure as I would like seems quite backwards. I understand the archaic reasoning was that not all devices have a QWERTY keyboard, this logic is flawed and is no longer necessary.

Hi, sorry to hear that you are experiencing these problems, but sometimes a new machine (be it Apple, Dell, whatever) can be defective right out the box - its not unheard of.
If your machine came with defective hardware and is still under warranty (seems to be the case here) then you have nothing to lose taking it back to where you bought it and, if there really is defective hardware present I am sure they'll rectify the problem.
A small note: these problems are not manufacturer-specific - its pointless blaming the manufacturer as I can assure you this happens with ALL brands. Apple supplies quality hardware and software - I know of a user who has had a machine switched on since 1987 without problems

  • Can't do update and no qwerty keyboard - 5530

Tried to update my phone to the latest update (20.0.080) but it doesn't do anything when I select update.   Also I can't get a qwerty keyboard when I turn my phone round to landscape.

I also lost my qwerty keyboard.I found out that if I rotated my phone to landscape before I hit menu and then hit messaging my keyboard was back.
Prior to that I emailed nokia asking assistance, Got this reply back yesterday.
    . Reboot your device by:

  • N8 Symbian Anna, sometimes keyboard missing in web...

Has anyone had a problem where the keyboard is missing when using N8 own web browser and trying to write password and username to some website?
I've got such a problem. If I type in the username and directly tap to the password field, the keyboard does not pop up. Also if the keyboard is there, it is impossible to insert a password, because you only can put the first letter from the input key. Only way to get the keyboard back, is to close the browser and open it again. But If you do again as i described above, the keyboard disappears again.

Well, I've finally solved the problem.  And it wasn't easy.
Because of the fact that I couldn't type anything I couldn't log in to my Nokia-account. However, my phone took me to a Nokia login page directly after I had installed Anna 1/2 and 2/2. There was no way I could get past that login screen, I couldn't abort the login process anywhere. Rebooting didn't help either. I was completely stuck
Eventually I chose to remove my sim card for a minute. Rebooted it, entered my code and rebooted it again. This time, when asked whether I wanted to start the phone in offline-mode I agreed. Finally I was then able to get to my Menu and to all of my phone's submenus.
However, I still couldn't type anything anywhere.
What caused the problem? Swype. Thank you Nokia, for not pointing out beforehand that my situation was caused by not disabling Swype BEFORE you start your Anna update process.
Apparently, Swype simply blocks the pop-up of the qwerty-keyboard. However, by the time you notice the problem AND you know that it's due to Swype, you cannot simply disable Swype anymore because you get stuck in the Nokia login-process and you will be unable to get to the menu where you can disable Swype. That was a nice little loop I got caught up in.
So how do you solve all of this? Do as I did and as I described above. Take out your sim-card, etc etc. Good luck and let me know if my solution worked for you.

  • Camera Raw 3.7 no longer supports per slider auto adjustments

    Nobody else resent this "improvement"?
Now the only way to have the image properly scaled (while not affecting everyting else by the automatic guesswork) is to have the settings in custom non-automatic default and then one has to use the Exposure slider manually with the aid of the Highlights Clipping Warning, for each and every image.
Compared to the 3.6 where this is fully automatic and works very very well.

sorry for the confusion, it is indeed shift double click and double click to change from auto to standard.
If you use your own created standard setting both automatic and standard on top of the sliders are blue colored and visible. Using auto does gray out the auto setting and using standard does gray out this option which is logical because you have to click on the highlighted option to change.
So this is the way to see in what mode you are.
underneath a copy from the original post that came with the release,
    regards

    Camera Raw 3.7 Now Available
    Tom Hogarty - 09:36pm Feb 18, 2007 Pacific
The Photoshop Camera Raw 3.7 plug-in is now available on adobe.com.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
Important Notes Regarding Camera Raw 3.7
There are several significant changes to Camera Raw 3.7 in how it handles auto and default settings:
Applying auto settings by default is no longer controlled on a model by model basis, but instead there is a single global preference checkbox Apply auto tone adjustments that controls this adjustment for all camera models at once.
Camera Raw 3.7 no longer supports per slider auto adjustments. One Auto control at the top of the panel now sets the Exposure, Shadows, Brightness, and Contrast sliders to their auto values. The Default control at the top of the panel sets these same four sliders to their default values. The keyboard shortcut for the Auto control is CMD/CTRL-U.
The keyboard shortcut for the Default control is CMD/CTRL-R.
Double clicking on a slider to set that single slider to its default value.
Shift double clicking on a slider to set that single slider to its auto value.
Previously, default image settings could only be applied per camera model. Camera Raw 3.7 can now:
-Apply default image settings specific to a camera serial number
-Apply default image settings specific to a camera ISO setting
The additional criteria are located in the Camera Raw preferences.
The default settings (including the global auto preference) are now shared with the DNG Converter.
The DNG Converter requires OS X 10.3.9 as a minimum operating system.

  • Problems using Devanagari-Qwerty keyboard in Mountain Lion

I have  all the discussions about Devanagari-Qwerty and have looked at and used all the websites that give instructions. But most do not apply to a Mac using 10.8.3. Nor do I get any answers from the people at Apple-Care when I phone them. My current questions are the following:
    1. What is the exact default font that is attached to the Devanagari-Qwerty keyboard in Mountain Lion? It is definitely NOT Devanagari Sangam MN, and it is NOT Devanagari MT. I cannot even use Devanagari MT in Mountain Lion on any of my programs, such as Microsoft Word or Adobe InDesign.
    2. I have spent the last few hours trying to figure out how to type one of the Sanskrit vowels that transliterates as "kree" or "kreem: ऋ़ं According to all the instructions I have read, theoretically this should work by typing option+r, shift+f, shift+m. But this does not work In Microsoft Word or InDesign, it just types a halant after the "kr"
    3. I cannot figure out how to turn on or use any advanced typography characters in any Sanskrit font with Mountain Lion. The instructions I have read do not apply to Mountain Lion.
I have been wasting many hours! Please help me!

    Dear Tom,
Thank you so much for responding to my questions. I have more questions:
    1. InDesign says it does support Indic scripts:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/vikrant/2012/05/indesign-cs6-indic-support-and-preference s/
I have followed their instructions and have turned on that script in their program. Yet I still have problems.
    2. What is the default font that is connected to the Devanagari Qwerty and Devanagari language keyboards on Mountain Lion? Or is it different for each program? MSW appears to default to "Sanskrit 2003." Text Edit appears to default to "Devanagari Sangam MN." InDesign appears to default to "Adobe Devanagari." Yet I cannot actually choose any of these fonts and use them in MSW or InDesign. In other words, on the font list, they do not display any Sanskrit characters. Instead, they become English letters when I select them from the list to type with. But if I use  Devanagari Qwerty or Devanagari language preferences to type with, then they do show up as Sanskrit characters. I do have other Sanskirt fonts that do appear on the font list and that display properly. But none of these other fonts default when I use Devanagari Qwerty or Devanagari. This is very confusing.
    3. I have never seen the gear wheel on any program except Text Edit. I wish I could find it, because I would like to turn on "additional conjuncts." I can go to Format > Fonts > Show Fonts with Microsoft Word, but I see no gear wheel. With InDesign, which supposedly does support Indic fonts, I don't know where to go in order to find the gear wheel. And I don't see any gear wheel on the Font Book program.
    4. My publisher requires that I use Microsoft Word to deliver my manuscripts. They do not accept any other programs. I am trying to type Sanskrit letters easier by using Devanagari Qwerty and/or Devanagari keyboard on my Mac. Any solution for Microsoft Word? Whatever solution I use has to also be compatible with InDesign, because my publisher copies and pastes everything into InDesign to design the final pages.
    Thank you!

  • No QWERTY keyboard, I have a QWERTZ keyboard. Z and Y switched

I bought a Curve 8520 last week for my son. He just noticed today that the z and y are switched on the keyboard. I called the place where we bought it and they said oh yeah some are like that. I said it is a defect.  I have not actually gone there to the store yet but am going tonight when my husband can go with me. Well I am in Panama and the phone says made in Hungary. They advertise a QWERTY keyboard not a QWERTZ keyboard. Anyone else have this?

It is not a defect, it is designed that way for German and Dutch language users.
Yes, many German users have that keyboard.
You cannot change it that keyboard (well you can, but the firmware within is still going to make the Z and Y keys operate as indicated on the keyboard you have not.
Return the device to where you purchased for a QWERTY keyboard device, or get your money back.
