N8 apps make unwanted internet connection automati...

Dear users,
I have had my N8 for a week now. It's beautiful, but there is only one issue I cannot resolve.
With my other Nokia's (also Vodafone as provider) I was able to set any internet connection manually by selecting "Always ask" in the phone's connection settings to prevent the phone from making expensive internet Vodafone connections, especially when being abroad.
With my new N8, Vodafone has secured my internet connections (Vodafone Live), so I am not able to edit the connections anymore and make adjustments. I noticed that with many apps from the Ovi Store, my phone immediately selects Vodafone Live as an internet connection automatically, There is no way to change this or to prevent the app from making the connection to Vodafone Live. Even when my home Wifi network is in range.
Anyone with the same problem? Is it a Vodafone issue? Is Vodafone trying to push users to use their internet connection by protecting the connection settings for Vodafone Live?

i figured out its propably by nokia ovi store.
ive found that my n8 have the same problem as yours, i mean its connecting automatically to internet by network with priority #1 in INTERNET group. If its WiFi, nokia will connect by this WiFi if its Network Package Connection, nokia will connect by this one.
Shutting down (by widget) scanning for WiFi or disconnecting gives no improvment, still connecting about 3 sec after disconnecting.
Remove/Editing/Adding again connections
gives no effect
Restarting phone does not help. Widgets are offline.
setting -> connectivity -> admin.setting -> package data -> when needed/when exist
gives no effect
Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity -> Settings -> Data use in home country
 Automatic/Always ask/WLAN only/Home network only
gives no effect
Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity -> Settings -> Switch to WLAN
Only know WLANs/Manual
gives no effect
Any ideas ??
FOUND IT !! Thank you ISMOK it was mail synchronising, after turning off every day it has stopped connecting.

    Hello all,
    I am trying to get the following to work. We have an intranet page which users need to connect to, to operate some machines. This is done through an windows 8.1 Tablet with an assigned KIOSK mode app (Kios SP Browser).
    This works great as the assigned app is the only thing the user can run and we don't have to really harden the device. One drawback in using the assigned apps is that it needs to be an New App (as Microsoft call it)
    The app is installed on an reference machine which runs in workgroup mode (no domain connection is needed on the devices) and after the reference machine is installed it is imaged with the use of Acronis. After deployment the tablet has no connection to
    internet and the intranet page is wireless put available to the tablets. As a side note, the tablet operates with local accounts and the app is installed using an corporate hotmail account we created just for this purpose.
    I now deployed the image over 20 different tablet devices and this worked great until recently a few devices start to complain it needs to connect to the windows shop before the app can be started. As the devices don't have internet access this can't be
    done and the tablet is rendered useless for the user.
    How can i make the app available without internet connection ? and how can i be sure the app will continue to work over time without connection to the store ?

    I can't unblock the internet connection as the wireless network doesn't have any internet connection what so ever. The main purpose is to be able to operate the machinery and nothing else, hence the kios app which is being used to show the intranet page
    which connects than to the devices.
    The problem is that after imaging the app works as expected but after a few days the app stops to work ...
    I found the following website over site loading an app without the needed appx files. It shows an way to capture the files during installation from the windows store.

    It is a bit strange to have it this difficult to install apps without the needed store and i think that Microsoft should make this easier. I hope this works better and after a few days i will give the feedback how this handles..

    First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
    Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
    If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

    Tried reinstalling over my existing OS and seemed ok until I once again updated to the latest security and Safari updates

    I also forgot to note that this problem also persists with the new iBooks application. I cannot get past the 'Get Started' screen or access the iBooks Store. Again, all top bar menus are unresponsive.

    There is no such thing as a 'internet connection'. You don't connect to the internet, you connect to computers - like DSN servers, web servers etc.
    Presumably you have a network. A client (browser) must connect to an application server to use a servlet. This is true even when running on the same box.
    Your question is how to you connect to the web server? What application/web server are you running?

    This is not really possible, since there are any number of free utilities on the Internet that will reveal a "hidden" network in seconds. Anyone who wants to see your network will be able to do so very quickly and easily.
    iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad often have difficulty connecting to a "hidden" network as well.
    If you still want to do this......
    Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
    Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next page
    Click the Wireless Options button near the bottom of the page
    Enter a check mark in the box next to Create hidden network
    Click Save
    Click Update at the lower right of the window and allow a minute for the Time Capsule to restart

  • Dual internet connection automatic failover?

    Hello,
    we have two internet connections at home, and both are not very reliable, so i tought about configuring them for automatic failover.
    I'm using them on my W520 and both connections are coming from separate routers, which are always running.
    One is conected to w520 via ethernet cable, second via wifi.
    Both are on different subnets and normally both routers IPs are set as default gateway.
    The problem is, that the routers are always on, so the w520 has usually still connectivity to both routers (i.e. ping to both 192.168.100.252 and 192.168.1.1 is always working).
    If one internet connection drops, this is on router side and w520 and its windows doesn't notice this as the connection from w520 to router is still OK.
    So if the active connection fails (on router side) i have to manually disconnect it on w520, otherwise i get no internet (as the traffic is still routed via same network interface which reaches only the router [that without internet]).
    I read something to use different metric for interfaces, but this is already configured "automatically" and this seem not to have any effect in case that connection to routers still work.

    As long as Windows have a working connection (interface link) either lan or wlan Windows don't know that one of the routers do not have a working internet connection. As far as i know there is no such functionality in Windows to make this work automatically. There might be some software available that can help you out, but not sure how this software should be aware of the missing internet access from one of the routers. That software will have to change the metric in the routing table (route print) on your Windows machine when one link is down.
    With regards to the metric and default gateway, you can use several interfaces all configured with a default gateway, but only the one with the lowest metric will be used. The default gateway is the last resort and normally this is the only one used on a client computer even if it's possible to add more specific static routes. Two interfaces with a default gateway and same metric won't work and don't think it's even possible to set in Windows. In that case how should Windows know what default gateway to use. So basically set more than one default gateway in Windows is pointless unless you want Windows to switch when the link goes down (link to the PC).
    I think the best option is to do this on the router and buy the required equipment for such functionality and maybe it's the only working options as well. You can also create two batchfiles, one that change the metric and default to use connection 1 and the other to use connection 2. That way you can switch manually just by a doubleclick on a icon. You use "route add...", "route delete..." and "route change..." to add, change and delete routes like the default gateway. It's still not automatic though.

    You posted in the iPad forum, but you profile lists an iPhone 4S. Does your iPhone or iPad have this problem.
    Here's some iPad suggestions. Most also apply to the iPhone. Your iPhone or iPad may show the wifi symbol but that only shows the presence of a wifi signal. Not that you are connected.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)

    No. Your Creative Cloud desktop applications (such as Photoshop and Illustrator) are installed directly on your computer, so you won’t need an ongoing Internet connection to use them on a daily basis.
    An internet connection is required the first time you install and license your desktop apps, but you can use the apps in offline mode with a valid software license.
    The desktop apps will attempt to validate your software licenses every 30 days, but for annual members, you can use the apps for up to 99 days in offline mode.
    Month-to-month members can use the software for up to 30 days in offline mode.

  • Apps dont see internet connection

    I got Curve 9300 OS 5, not connected to BB services. I installed IM+, Gmail, Google sync (during installation i allowed all access options). When running any of the apps first time (after installing) connection tru 3G or WiFi is OK. Usually i turn off 3G to save battеry. When i run an app next time - it requires internet connection (Curve 9300 writes signal is bad). Although have good internet connection tru browser at the same time. 
    After re-installing Gmail (or reconnecting to accont in Google sync) first time internet access is OK. Then - the same problem. What can i change in Curve 9300 settings to solve the problem?

  • My iPod can't connect to Facetime. Message says to check network connection and try again.  I have no trouble accessing other apps requiring an internet connection.

    Can't connect to Facetime or messages on iPod touch.  When I try to sign in, message says to check network connection and try again.  I have tried multiple times with both apps with the same result.  There is nothing wrong with my internet connection as I am able to check my e-mail and all of the other apps that require wifi so I can't figure out what the problem is.  Has anyone else had a similar problem?
