Sounds like you have performed the full gamut of things to do with it, if something has gone amiss. Unfortunately, your only option now is to take your phone to your local Nokia Care point for them to inspect: http://nokia.com/support

  • My Nokia E7-00 Belle update - the good, the bad, a...

Late last night I installed Belle on my E7-00 Anna.  It was a completely hands-off install using the USB cable connected to my PC.  It took about 15 minutes with multiple restarts of the phone all done by the software update.
I have a 12MB Internet connection (or so my service provider claims) and a UPS backup to reduce the chance of failure due to a poor Internet connection or untimely power outage.
The update was uneventful and the update software did perform a backup before the actual update began.  I did do a backup myself of the Anna install before doing the Belle update.
Although I am technically very experienced and competent with Windows based computer hardware and software,  I don't consider myself particularly knowledgeable in cell phone technology.  So I was glad to see the update go smoothly.
However, all was not peaches and cream after the update completed.  Once I started to use the phone I found that many, though not all, of additional application I had downloaded under Anna were no longer on the phone.  Also, many settings were gone as well such as my WLAN settings, and later I found all my Favorites gone.
I spent a couple of hours going through all the menus reorganizing the interface and the various options to get the phone in what I consider to be a usable state.  These things are made so that one can optimize to suit ones needs and I take advantage of that.
I'm disappointed that I had to spend so much time and effort doing this (actually redoing what had been done in Anna) and feel that the update should have, and could have, kept many of my settings.  I understand that the new widgets and home screens meant a re-jigging of those things but, for example, why did I have to re-enter all the WLAN settings required to connect to my home router, including a very long security string? More below.
I am glad that I did the update in spite of all the time and trouble to get everything working again and to suit my personal preferences.  I suspect a lot of users who have less experience than I in these things will be seeking help to get all their phone features working again.
Perhaps it would be useful to explain how I use my phone.  This is my 6th or 7th cell phone and I'm on my second cell service provider (about 8 years).  I have had cell phones continuously ever since they were small enough to carry on one's belt.
I am not a power user.  I use the camera occasionally for recording information.  I don't download music for listening but occasionally listen to music from the Internet via WLAN.  I have not sent more than about a dozen text message in my life, though I have unlimited texting in my cell service package.
I use my cell phone mostly for business calls.  I do not have any data service from my service provider.  I tried the data service for about 3 months but found that I used it very little.  I don't have a Twitter account (thinking about it) nor a Facebook account (and not thinking about it) so other than the rare instance to search the Internet for some information (when not near my own WLAN connection) I found little use for it.  Data service here in Canada is one of the most expensive of any country (or so I have seen reported on the Internet).  So I decided to save the money.
I do all of my email at my office or at home on desktop PCs with big screens and full size keyboards.  Occasionally I connect to my home WLAN with my phone to check email or to check for updates to the phone software.  But I don't like to do much typing on the phone keyboard, even though it is really a very good keyboard for a cell phone.
I do use the map/GPS feature regularly and think it is one of the best I've used.  I've gone through about five stand-alone GPS units which gives me some reference for comparison.
I'm not much of a game player, never have been, even on my computer.  I do have Angry Birds because it was free, and it is nice once in awhile to have something to occupy time when waiting at a doctors office or for a haircut, etc. and all the newspapers and magazines are old.
Here are things that I especially like about the new Nokia (Symbian) Belle software update:
I like the clock screen saver (I use the digital version rather than the analog display) because I can quickly look at my phone without having to unlock it and see the time/date (I've stopped wearing a watch).  It is also a great nightstand clock and alarm.  With the Light Bar app installed it is not too bright for sleeping but visible when needed.  I suspect though that it is sucking a lot of battery power and I may have to disable the clock screen saver if battery charging is too frequent.
The user interface is very good.  It is terribly easy to add or remove widgets and move them around on the home screen to suit ones needs.  The bar across the bottom makes accessing the applications menu, phone dialer, or options menu extremely quick and easy.
The pull down connectivity menu is superb.  With one touch I can turn on or off my Bluetooth, which I use with my car hands-free feature everyday.  Turning Bluetooth often when not need saves power.  With three taps of the screen I can connect to my home router, or disconnect with one tap.
A new capability that I now have and wished for previously on my E7 (but couldn't figure out how to do) is being able to put my phone in Off-line mode and still use the WLAN feature.  This is great in the evening at home when I don't want to be connected to my cell phone provider, but I do want to look up something quickly on the Internet without going to my desktop PC.
After the Belle update I found that I still had the following applications (originally installed in Anna) still available on the phone:
      Angry Birds
US and Canada Maps plus voice guidance
App Stop Camera Lover Pack (multiple apps)
      Opera Mini
      Sticky Notes
Here is a list of software and setting that were no longer on the phone after the Belle update:
    Applications
    Public Transportation
    Beeps and Vibrations voice guidance
    Converter
    GPS Info QT
    Compass Lite
    Nokia Internet Radio
    Display Brightness Control
    Nokia Battery Monitor 2
    Compass Touch
    Here and Now
    Settings
WLAN settings and password strings for three routers
    Start-up custom Welcome message
    Phone display settings
    Route settings for maps
    Voice guidance settings
    Home location for maps
Lost all Favorites including many map locations and Internet radio Favorites
    Lost all call logs
Lost all phone pairing - car and headset
    Lost call mailbox number
Since I have had the Belle update for less than 24 hours I am certain that there is more for me to discover.  But I thought it may be useful to provide this experience report as a heads-up for those about to do the same.  And now I will have to update my E6-00.

Thank you for the feedback hpholm.
I hope that you are very wrong about having to sync with OVI online services.  I have never done that.  Nowhere have I seen that as a requirement to store all the data on my phone.  And as I said, I do not pay for a data service with my cell provider and only connect my phone to the Internet through my home or work router, or through my PC via USB cable. So syncing to a remote site is not attractive to me.
My impression from Nokia on-line information is that the Nokia Suite application, which runs on my PC, backs up my phone - everything.  Where is the logic in backing up everything except my map Favorites.  Why would those be an exception?
Additionally, I am not interested in having to backup my confidential information to someone else's server where (in my opinion) I have less security than on my own PC (I do tech support and know how to lock down a computer).
Also, in most cases when one puts information on someone else's server, especially a free service from the like of Google, Facebook, Twitter, (might I suggest Nokia?) etc.  one loses control and rights to that information.  I'm unwilling to do that simply because someone else thinks it is good for me to do.  Ha!
Nothing is truly free.  You pay somehow.  These service aren't there because they are altruistic.  How many billions is the IPO for Facebook worth?  Gotta be a reason.  All that information that people put there about themselves and others is the reason.
I doubt Facebook would pay me anything to put personal info on their site.  I assume most people would think me a bit loony to expect it.
In any event, though there is a lot to like about the Belle update, there are a lot of unnecessary complications, with no warnings!
As I read the posts about peoples experiences with the Belle update I'm seeing a lot of disappointment.  From my experience in computing hardware, software and network support it is my opinion that the Belle update was rushed and was done in a less than professional manner.
From what I've been reading, people who have updated to Belle have generally expected it to be near perfect and hassle free, and many are really disappointed.  The end experience with the Anna update was much better in my opinion.  Not good for Nokia customer relations.
Nokia customer loyalty easily rivaled that of Apple.  But that has been seriously damaged with things like trashing Memo, going with the MS Windows phone OS, and a disappointing Belle update for all those expensive Nokia smart phones.  Kinda dumb.
I suspect that most if not all of the first line developers have been pulled off Symbian to do development work on the Windows phone OS.  The missing or incomplete bits and pieces in Belle, plus some gratuitous changes suggest less then experienced software developers working on Belle.
Enough grousing.  I just hope that things get fixed, but I'm feeling very pessimistic right now.  I wouldn't mind being proved wrong.

@Mohsin_786 if it was a software failure, it should be fixed  after you reinstalled the firmware. You should better get your phone inspected at a local Nokia Care Center

  • CPU Clock speed with Belle Update

The original symbian^3 devices run on the ARM 11 Processor which has been optimized to function close to 1GHz. But they're currently running at a speed of 680 MHz. My request to Nokia is that please optimize our processor speed to atleast 1GHz with the upcoming belle update. If you haven't planned on doing it, please do it with a minor update atleast after you release belle. I'm not an expert on this. So suggestion and comments are welcome.

I would be surprised if the rest of the hardware in the phone, like the RAM etc, couldn't support the maximum CPU clock speed. When such sophisticated electronic devices are designed it's impossible to know until it's all been put together how it will actually perform as a complete unit - the hardware, software, battery capacity, etc. The clock speed allows a fine-tuning once everything comes together, to get the optimal balance.
Well-made software makes a huge difference to how much CPU/hardware resources are required. Software efficiency is the most important factor of all.
A GPU is only there to perform tasks that would otherwise take up huge amounts of CPU resources. Dedicated graphical tasks such as 2D scrolling, 3D texture-mapping/filling for example. But that's all. The CPU is still running the whole show, but just has much of the load taken off it by the GPU.
So with the GPU doing more and more, the CPU and it's speed become less relevant.
A few things here, some of what you have mentioned I agree with. But some I dont. Firstly when any device is designed, things like the GPU and RAM are all allowed for, that is the speed at which each is capable. There is no use taking pot luck saying oh we think that will be enough. Its all calculated right from the word go.
Its done for several reasons, firstly costings, there is no use producing something that is so expensive no will be able to afford it. secondly to make sure you dont end up with bottle necks in data flow. Also it no use producing something that is so slow that you cant do anything worthwhile on it. That is some of the reasons.
You are absolutely right about software, well made software installed in a relatively slow running device can quite often beat poorly designed software running on a fast machine at exactly the same task. O/S like windows for instance, in my opinion only, whilst full of features, is definitely bloated, and not well designed. A standard install disc for windows these days is around the 3Gig mark (depending on version of OS), where as something that does exactly the same thing like Linux still fits on a 700M cd.
And you are right about the GPU, its does relieve the pressure on the cpu. Unfortunately the gpu in an N8 or an E7 is only running at 200Mhz. Considering most things are graphical based on these phones. I would have to wonder how much of the gpu is being used, especially when the one chip is running everything from the 2d/3d graphics/rendering, the camera up to 12MP, HDMI, HD video recording and play back, a stack of video codecs etc.
Unfortunately the main cpu from everything i was able to find is simply listed as an ARM11, these processors run on several Nokia's phone, including the older E90 (which had dual cpu's but ran at much slower speed of about 332 Mhz., however the Arm site list the ARM 11 as several versions, including one that actually has 4 cpu on the one the chip but only presents itself as 1 cpu to the rest of the hardware, with this cpu running anywhere up to 1Ghz. So its entirely possible that the 680Mhz listed for the N8/E7 could be as fast as it goes. Also the current versionof the ARM11 have a power consumption of 0.21mW/Mhz. so based on that figure a processor running at 680Mhz would consume 142.8 mW, but at 1G it would be 210mW, that a difference of 67.2mW. That would mean your phone would go flat a lot quicker. This info is based solely on information that I can find on Nokia run sites, ARM's site and broadcoms site. That way we can beleive what we are able to read with some certainty. I did find other non-related site suggesting 720mhz for the cpu, but they are only a 3rd party mobile news site, that said it had been suggested that it was capable of 720Mhz..
But i do firmly believe with efficient code the phones can perform extremely well, Anna certainly seems faster than the old Symbian ^3 version that was on the phone prior to Anna, whether or not Belle can be made any more efficient remains to be seen. But heres hoping.

  • Old Camera Interface in ICS

Hi, is it possible to get old Camera Interface in the ICS update, in the previous Gingerbread version of Sony the Camera interface was sleek... it even had a scene recognition mode (Potrait, Outdoor, Indoor, Party) etc... we could swipe left and right of the screen to view more options... a feature which is missing in the new ICS update

Select the scene mode as normal and then the options will occur
Use menu button after that to find various options

  • Questions about PO creation / update / cancel interfaces

    Hi there,
An E-Business Suite 11.5.10.2 customer wants to use the 11i PO creation / update / cancel interfaces in order to manage Purchase Orders created from a 3rd party system.
I've been through the 'Oracle Purchasing Open Interfaces' guide (115mfgapi.pdf), but it's still unclear to me whether:
1/ It is possible or not to add a new PO line to an existing PO through the interfaces ? If yes, how do one do that: what interface ? sample code ?
2/ It is possible or not to change the distribution (= accounting information) of an existing PO line ? If yes, ...
3/ It is possible or not to reject the full PO document if a single line fails during the PO creation ? Same for a batch of POs: reject the full batch if a single PO fails ?
4/ Is it possible or not to cancel a PO line even if the shipment already occured ? And even if the payment already occured ? Are there some controls here ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Kind regards - Hugues

    1. Answer is YES. You can add a line to an existing standard purchase order by choosing the UPDATE. This can be done through Purchase Documents Open Interface.
I can not give an example. It's quite long to write it. But You should use Open interface user guide to find nessesary columns. Just insert new row with status UPDATE and try to import
    2. Think You can NOT.
    3. Answer is YES. You can do it. Use "Cancel PO API". Function name is PO_Document_Control_PUB.control_document ().
For technical details read Open interface UG.
You must create exception to be avoid problems if some lines can not be canceled.
    4. Answer is YES. You can do it if there's still expected quantity to recive.
    boldJust from UG:*bold* :)
bold1. Purchase Order Change APIs. bold
boldThe APIs enable you to do the following*bold*:
    - Record Acceptance/Rejection in Oracle Purchasing
    - Update quantity, price, and promise date on standard purchase orders or releases in Oracle Purchasing
boldSo only qty, promissed date, price*bold*
    boldRead next*bold*:
Line Level Validation and Update: This logic occurs when LINE_NUM is not null
    and SHIPMENT_NUM is null.
    1. No update occurs if the line status is FINALLY CLOSED or CANCELLED.
    2. The new quantity or price value must be positive.
    3. If updating quantity, the new quantity must be greater than or equal to the
greater of total quantity_received of all shipments and total quantity_billed
of all shipments for this line. After the update takes place, the new quantity
will be prorated at the shipment level and for each shipment the quantity is
prorated at the distribution level if applicable.
    4. If updating price, no update occurs if a receipt has been created against one
of the line’s shipments and it's been accrued upon receipt. No update
occurs if an invoice has been created against one of the line’s shipments.
After a price update takes place, price changes are rolled down to the
shipment level for standard POs. No price update occurs for a release if the
Price Override flag on the blanket purchase agreement Line is No.
    boldSummary:*bold*
boldYou can update qty if still there's a qty to receive (Expected) and if PO still is not canceled*bold*

Is there a work around, so that I can retain the volume level I had previously set in Garageband, a volume level that seems to transfer without problem to the new iTunes. But then iPhoto 2008 (slide show) possibly or Quicktime 7.6.6 do not cooperate. Before I did the upgrade to Snow Leopard, the new iTunes and Quicktime I had no problems with the set volume being retained in the old Quicktime. The reason I need control over the volume is that all these music files are uploaded to YouTube.

My iphone 4s is no longer detecting wifi since the IOS8 updates came out. I've restarted, rest the networks, reset the phone back to factory settings, and even tried the freezer trick. It is STILL not detecting ANY wifi networks. HELP!!! I cannot afford to go over my data and I use wifi at home and work... I believe the updates have caused the issue, because it was working fine before the second update released (I hadn't put the first one one until I noticed it had stopped working, and by then the second IOS8 version had came out). They need to do a third update to fix this issue.

    If it's grayed out:
Reset Network Settings - if that doesn't fix it, then Backup and Restore AS A NEW DEVICE.
If it's still grayed out, unfortunately that means your Wi-Fi antenna quit, and it needs service.

  • Can't open raw files from Nikon d800 in PS CS5 and can't update Camera Raw plug-ins

Can't open raw files from Nikon d800 in PS CS5 (Win7 64-bit). It says, the model not supported by Camera Raw. Tried updating Camera Raw plug-ins for d800 but keep getting error message: Update failed, Adobe Application Manager may be damaged. Re-install the latest application manager but still the same error message. How to fix?
