N8 Belle: Well well, isn´t it just about 4 days le...

Is it just me exciting,  isn´t it 4 days until we ( in Europe) are getting the Belle software update.
It has been discussed that these coming months, from now until next spring is a living or .... for Nokia on the smartphone market.  Well we will see when we get Belle.
The improvements from PR 2.0 to ANNA where huge, but still long way to go !
I have used Nokia N8 since it was launched and I have to admit that its growing and growing !  Its not the most simple smart phone on the market but the device it self has a lot of features that sadly few of the users know about.
My favorites features regarding the Nokia N8 are:
The T9 dictionary, I´m using it all day long, emails, SMS and just name it, its fantastic ! !
The outlook and calendar sync.
The Skype.
The music player, including the FM transmitter + the radio options.  I use at least one of this items every day, out driving,  running, biking or walking.
GPS:  I travel a lot, and find the new gps fantastic, I can share my locations and meet friends in places I have never been on before.
The HDMI: after a good day out with the kids, make a slide show, with nice music and it rolls on the television and brings back a lot of memories.
Internet radio.
Youtube downloader
The features I´m will be looking on at the Belle version
- Faster phone
- Better video capability specially from different homepages, playing videos
- And nicer web browsing browser
The N8 has the potential,  I think the NOKIA team has as well, we will see during next weekend.

I think it depends a lot what you are expecting from your device !
-  I work a lot in the country side where many other brands simple wont work, only because they do not have the same coverage and plus the device is for sure one of most robust on the market.
I´m still looking forward

  • Well, isn't this just great.

Okay, so I was just messing around with my iPod nano's features awhile ago, and I came across the screen lock. So I made a code for it, and entered the code in, and I stopped using the screen lock after that.
Then, earlier today, I went to the screen lock, and for some reason, I set the screen lock to my iPod nano. It said I had to enter the old code, in order to enter the new code. Of course, I completely forgot the other code from the first time, and now it's locked. I can't get it open. I read the online manual about the screen locking and it said, I could either enter the old code. It also said the screen lock would automatically turn off once I connected it to the computer, but it's still there after I disconnected it, too. I really don't want to restore it.
Is there any other way I could reset it?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

On my iPod G5 when I am about to activate Screen Lock it says this
"If you forget your combination, connect your iPod to your computer, and iTunes will unlock it."
    Good luck

My Bluetooth has disappeared and I have tried just about everything on the internet. When I click on Bluetooth file exchange it says hardware not found. I tried resetting everything as well nothing is working for me please help because now my facetime doesn’t work neither does photo booth and now I cannot text people off my laptop unless they have iMessage.

If you followed the instructions in the support article exactly (leaving the machine off for two minutes), then it has a hardware fault. Take it to an Apple Store or other authorized service provider for repair.

Well, it could be that your carrier doesn't have a signal when it looses its signal.  You could try resetting network settings which might help - Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings.  You'll need to set up any wi-fi networks you connect too again. If you're still having issues, contact your carrier.
    Good luck!

Syncing iPhone & iPad in cloud - isn't cloud just like an external drive ? All steps followed but nothing synced ?

No, iCloud is nothing like an external drive.
What exactly are you trying to sync? Is the data you are trying to sync visible at http://www.iCloud.com/

So, I have just about had it. For nine days now,  I have valiantly tried to move my library to an external drive. At first, I attempted to move it to my 2TB Time capsule. iTunes didn't like its new home though and moved home without telling me. So then there were two libraries. I meshed them back together reluctantly and iTunes in a silent revolt, absolutely refused to use its own 'Keep Library Organized' criteria and may as well have thrown my music against the wall. Seriously, my 5 year old nephew has his computer files better managed. Then I bought a 3TB Time Capsule and you may ask yourself why??? Well, iTunes doubled in size- although when I ran apps that are designed to find duplicate iTunes files, it deleted the music I actually bought from iTunes. So then I watched as iTunes got it back. How you ask; I run a MacBook Air, iMac and Mac mini in my house - as soon as one powered up it hit the net like a sailor on leave and re-downloaded it all without abandon. I tried to keep the libraries separate, no success there. I tried to keep them unified; iTunes response was to ask me if I wanted to join iTunes Match every time I logged on to my computer and on any computer - my iTunes match song number has been as high as 24,367 and as low as 11,112. And I can't simply refuse iTunes. No one refuses iTunes. Refusal to allow iTunes Match to run through all 24000 songs again was to revoke my rights to the songs that were once part of my library. If I took a long time to decide or was visibly impatient while iTunes did its little 3 hour scan it would arbitrarily decide that music I bought from iTunes was ineligible for iTunes Match. How could that possibly be??? I am missing music, or at least iTunes tells me so by showing me that lovely exclamation point. I have tried backing up my computer to do a full system restore and start all over. Time Capsule claims I have 979 GB of data and takes its sweet time to even back up one gig (about 18 minutes) even though I can transfer files to my Time Capsule at about 1 GB every 40 seconds. I guess though performing back-ups are somewhat like government jobs; it will get done, when it gets done. The back up requirement of 979 GB is surprising though, my Mac claims that I currently occupy just about 25% of my 2TB drive. The discrepancy, who knows, but I think the solution lies somewhere in iTunes. But maybe iPhoto. But that is for another time.

After admittedly only a quick read the one thing you don't say is how you are trying to make this move.  Most people with moving library issues do it the wrong way.  Plenty of web sites tell you how to do it the wrong way.
If the iTunes application is started before the drive with the library is fully mounted and awake iTunes will revert back to the internal drive.

My computer is saying it can't find the file 'iTunes64.msi' when I try to update or redownload iTunes how do I fix this? I've tried just about everything I can think of. I am using a dell laptop running windows 7 and have tried changing the file location to run the update in all of my iTunes files as well as when I've tried reinstalling it.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • I've just about had it with Lion

I've just about had it with Lion.  I am suffering such severe performance problems with it on my iMac that I'm seriously considering either downgrading to Snow Leopard or running Windows 7 in Boot Camp on the box.
My iMac is a 2.66 GHz iMac Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM, which is a decent specification.  I am running the latest, fully patched 10.7.2 version of OS X and the performance is absolutely terrible.  Pretty much every operation of any significance that I perform results in the spinning beach-ball.  Even just switching between things like Firefox and Finder causes major delays.  I have searched high and low on these forums and tried everything, including repairing permissions, etc. and the problem is still the same.
The problem I think is related to I/O.  All methods of access to the disk is incredibly slow, including USB file transfer, network file transfer, and even moving a file from one part of the disk to another part of the same disk.  The problem is there in Finder and also when doing a file copy using the command line.  I had no such problems with Snow Leopard on the same computer but as soon as I put Lion on there, I lost the entire performance of the machine.  In desperation, I even completely re-formatted my disk and reinstalled Lion and as soon as I started it up, with the factory fresh OS, I had performance issues right from the start.
The only conclusion I can come to is that Lion does not work well on some older Macs.  I had no idea why, but I know that I am not alone.
If anyone has any suggestions, I am more than happy to hear them to prevent me from having to downgrade the box, but unless I can fix this then that will have to happen.
    Thanks,
    Ian.

This 17" Early 2011 MacBook Pro with the fast and blessed Snow Leopard will be my last Mac and this is coming from a Mac user from day one, even before with the Apple IIe.
I don't like Lion because of the direction Apple is taking OS X and it's UI changes, Internet installs etc.
Apple needs to learn what happened to Ubuntu when it mandated Unity UI and didn't give Linux users choice like they once had, they all flocked to Linux Mint instead.

A lot of people don't know but EFI (the firmware in Mac's) was designed by Intel for the chief purpose of Digital Rights Management, basically standing between the operating system and the hardware and watching everything going on, reporting it over the Internet, stoping the OS calls to the hardware to play back media etc.
    http://www.uefi.org/about/
It's not like the old firmware of old, it's really a whole operating system unto itself. Programs can be installed in EFI, in fact I do so with rEFIt, which allows my Mac's to triple and quad boot other operating systems. (note, won't work reliably with Lion only Snow Leopard, requires updating)
    http://refit.sourceforge.net/
Intel also designed Thunderbolt, so I'm suspectign there is some sort of DRM scheme going on with Thunderbolt monitors.
If Apple mandated DRM checking in Lion, naturally if you've got EFI taking up more processor cycles, that's going to slow your machine down.
Also you might not know this, but for Early 2011 Mac's when Apple rolled out Lion, there was a series of Mac bricking EFI firmware updates. I had a bad suspicion and didn't apply the updates, becaue I frankly don't need Lion internet Recovery. So I'm suspecting there is a WHOLE lot of monkey business going on in EFI recently as Apple exerts more control in this area.
The only conclusion I can come to is that Lion does not work well on some older Macs.  I had no idea why, but I know that I am not alone.
Lion added more bloat that makes older hardware slower, it's been tested Lion is slower than Snow Leopard. It's how Apple gets you to upgrade hardware, by bloating down the OS and programs.
I've tried Lion on a 15" Intel Core 2 Duo MBP and reverted it back to Snow Leopard. Slow downs, video issues etc.
I don't recommend installing Lion other than on Early 2011 Mac's and later.
If anyone has any suggestions, I am more than happy to hear them to prevent me from having to downgrade the box, but unless I can fix this then that will have to happen.
You did a fresh install, that would have cured any performance issues with defragmentation or bad install.
You can't upgrade your hard drive in iMac's to 7,200 RPM, because Apple has placed proprietary something on it for heat monitoring, so your screwed there for buying a closed box.
So yes, upgrade to 10.6.8 and remain there on that machine, there is nothing you can really do.
    Welcome to the crowd.

  • My home building project is just about finished. Unfortun...

My home building project is just about finished. Unfortunately, there we won't be able to use either a cable or Qwest DSL service to connect to the internet because of where we live. We do, however, get a great cellular phone signal.
The support guru from T-Mobile suggested that the Linksys WRT54G3G-AT might serve me well as it would bring in internet connection and serve as the network to distribute the internet signal to many devices both wirelessly and through ethernet cables. I have a new desktop Dell (with Vista OS), an older HP desktop and Dell B120 Inspiron notebook (with XP OS), and also an XBox (not 360) and Wii. I also want to network the computers. Before investing and trying to set all this up, though, I really want to make sure that I'm headed in the right internet connection direction. Anybody have thoughts on this?
Also, I have T-Mobile cellular phone service already. I noticed that the WRT54G3G-AT web site mentions AT&T wireless. Would I have to use AT&T wireless ($60/mo) to use the WRT54G3G-AT or can I use a cellular internet card from T-Mobile ($20/mo)?
Many thanks to any thoughts and help people of the forum can provide.

I think you need to use AT&T service to use WRT54G3G-AT ...

Turning the brightness up as much as possible will help a little. However, as Skydiver notes, screens like those used in tablets and cell phones don't work well in bright sun. That's why I have a Kindle for reading outside. Not to mention, I'd feel a lot less awful if I got sand in a $100 ereader than if I got it in my $700 iPad.

If your phone is locked to a particular carrier, you must contact them to request they unlock it. Once they've taken care of that and you've followed the instructions to complete the unlock process, you will be able to use the phone elsewhere.

If you have carefully follow ALL of the steps in that article, you are using a USB port directly on your computer and not a USB hub (don't use a front port on a tower or desktop either, as they are an internal hub) and you installed iTunes correctly using an Administrator ID and you have tried disabling your antivirus and firewall then there is no hope of it ever working. Look at the tip again, and go through it carefully, not skipping any steps.
Note, BTW, that an iPhone will not show up on a computer, only in iTunes. If there are photos in the Camera Roll then it will appear in Windows as a digital camera only.

  • MY ITUNES WILL NOT OPEN- I'VE TRIED JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING HELP ME PLEASE!!!

I am so depressed and angry..My beloved Itunes is not opening. I get the error report: "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down sorry for the inconvience"

ANything you guys know that may help is fine..I'm in need of help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I've been messin with this for about 4 hours now, I finally found the solution to my problem and would like to share in hopes of helping. Every time I tried to open itunes I recieved this error message:
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
Please tell microsoft about the problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to us. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.
    <send error report> <don't send error reptort>
I sent the error report ... and eventually got this link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302372
Which basically lays out my whole problem - and I did all of the suggested steps but still...
same message... same problem... and no solution.
I came to the mssg boards and tried all these suggested steps that are on this post to no avail. Reinstalled everything over and over. Then I found this:
for itunes 6.0.x, the first thing i check for with one of those is a broken quicktime. does your quicktime currently launch, or does it give you an error message?
try a careful standalone QT 7.0.3 reinstall.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
I went and downloaded the standalone quicktime, installed it. Opened the quicktime program to make sure it worked, which it did, then tried itunes again.......
    WALLLA IT WORKS!!!! Finally
hope this might help, good luck.
