N8 Communication Log?
Hi everybody
i have a question about the log - on all of my previous Nokia phones, the log has a Communication Details tab that shows everything the phone does; calls, text, data connections, etc. On the N8, that log is only showing voice and message transmission. i read a few discussions about the problems people were having with their logs resetting due to an overabundance of data connections, but my log is not showing any of them. Is there something wrong with my log? i check the settings, but the only option is the usual "Log Duration." i am trying to investigate a very short battery life and that log is pretty crucial, as well as being very useful. Any help?
Thanks,
matthew

i read on another thread about an app by Psiloc available on Nokia Store called DataLog which restores the datalogging feature to Belle's Log app. It is free and Psiloc software has long been a part of Nokia's bundled software, so i downloaded it for the E6 and the N8. It works perfectly, but you have to start it up every time the phone is turned on.
As far as the life of the N8's battery, the phone is brand new. So i suspected an app that is accessing packet data communication which i have not yet disabled, hence my dismay in no datalogging in the intrinsic log app.
Now, with DataLog running, i can verify if the battery is weak or if packet data connections are draining it.
Thanks,
matthew

N95: how to save COMMUNICATION LOG on PC
As I can see on seach results, there is no way to save communication log by PC Suite.
May be, anybody tried to get this log from backup copy?
Anyway, I hope to see in next version of PC Suite such command as "Save your log"
Best regards to Nokia programmers!
Paul
Solved!
Go to Solution.I've found the solution for this problem. It's a tiny (26kb) application called LOG EXPORT. You can download it at adres:
http://mosh.nokia.com/content/432396B1AABC059FE040050A443073E3
I've just tested it on my N95 - it works!!! LOG EXPORT also can work on N73, E51, N82...
Best regards, Paul

Hi, I've just installed the PC Suite 6.85.14.1 and was hoping to access, print or save the calls made, received, missed etc to my pc - it's it possbile to access this data on the 6120?
The number receives alot of calls and I was also hoping for a quick way of saving the calls received or missed as contacts or to a database - are there any applications available for this purpose?
Thanks & regards,

Hello,
I have a Nokia E65 and I would like to find a way to modify my log, erasing only a specific recived/called number from the list, without deleting the entire list. Do you think that would be possible?
The ideea is that my wife can check everything I do with my cell phone and this is frustrating. On the other hand, if I erase the entire log list she will be suspiciouse, so please, I need help!Well, ghandalf. Quite a pickle indeed.
Since you would rather not delete all the call/data entries made or received on your phone on the Communications log as that will cause suspicion, the only other alternative that I can think of is to not make contact with phone numbers that will cause suspicion.
That or buy a new phone, or find an excuse to buy a series 40 Nokia phone instead.
As to why, I suspect that when the developers were working on the OS, they did not take into consideration that there may be individual users who may want to use their phones for....questionable activities in which tracks would need to be covered. What a shame.
@ thundertiger: ghandalf is referring to the Communications log which lists all incoming/outgoing calls and packet data usages. You can delete single entries in the Missed/Received Calls and Dialled Numbers, but if you scroll to the right in Log, you will see a "Log" section that lists everything. That will not allow the deletion of single entries. All or nothing.
I doubt getting a second prepaid card will work if he's using the same phone. The logs are stored in the phone memory and will not erase the previous data/call details when the SIM is changed. If I'm wrong, do let me know, as I have no reason to swap SIMs constantly and cannot confirm this.
thundertiger has a point as well, ghandalf. If you have a detailed bill summary plan on your phone contract, it will list the numbers for all calls made.
Bottom line:
Your options are only:
1. Buy a non-symbian phone (i.e. series 40 would be good)
2. Delete all your communication entries
3. Don't make contact with suspicious numbers.
4. Get a second phone.
Since you already stated 1 and 2 aren't an option, that only leaves option 3 and 4.

Network based and a-gps, data use tests
i was trying to find this kind of info, but only found others asking.
i hope this is useful info for others, especially while roaming.
skip to the bottom for conclusion,
this is the process i took:
i called nokia tech support,
their phone support his horrible,
the people on the phone don't actually know anything, and have to look up everything you ask them.
they were the worst.
i emailed nokia tech support.
my message was:
"i would like to know the difference between assisted gps positioning, and network based positioning. these are 2 of the 4 options on my nokia e66 for positioning methods. i would like to know if network based positioning uses internet data from my service provider to obtain my gps position. i am especially concerned with this function while i'm roaming internationally, as i do not want to be charged for roaming data use."
in about half hour they responded w/ an answer, and then 45 min after that someone else responded w/ an answer.
the first response, minus the hello's etc. was:
"In response to your email, Assisted GPS and Network Based positioning methods generate costs related to data traffic so you will be charged for data use. Only "normal" GPS and Bluetooth GPS do not generate additional costs related to data traffic.
Normal GPS is quite slow and does not work indoors. Therefore, it is recommended to enable at least A-GPS to get a faster position outdoors.
Network based and Wi-Fi positioning also allow you to update your position inside buildings, but they cannot be used for navigation."
the 2nd response was:
"In response to your inquiry, the difference between Assisted GPS positioning (A-GPS) and Network based positioning is that, A-GPS uses satellites while Network based positioning is based on information of your cellular network environment. It allows you to update your position inside buildings, but they cannot be used for navigation. Both positioning methods generate costs related to data traffic (unless you have configured the device to use Wi-Fi connection to make the internet connection). The cost may vary while you are on roaming. Kindly contact the service provider for information about data transmission costs."
i can also respond w/ more questions, but instead did some tests, starting with sitting home, indoors, and eventualy moving to a window w/ lots of sky.
test 1:
i enabled:
integrated gps
network based
assisted gps
opened maps,
set maps to be offline,
set default internet access point to my home wlan network,
closed maps,
cleared all counters and the log on the phone's communication log.
opened maps
there is a pink circle around the area i may be in,
the icon that would show gps satellite strength, changes to show the cell phone antenna icon.
but the packet data counter is sending/receiving a total of around 3-8kb immediately, and over the course of time, it keeps adding up, every 1-2 minutes, and it is shown as packet data to/from the access point "at&t internet"
over the course of ten minutes, it's been about 43kb.
and i can tell on the phone's home screen that the packet data connection becomes active when it does.
the maps kb indicator still says 0.0kb, with a line through the double arrow packet data symbol.
test 2:
now i exited maps,
cleared the counters and logs
i turned off a-gps.
enabled only integrated gps and network based.
i open maps,
the same thing is happening as with the assisted gps on, except i connected to my home wlan once, in the middle of connecting to at&t internet 10 or so times.
everything else is happening the same.
test 3:
i exited maps,
cleared the counters and logs.
enabled only integrated gps.
i open maps, and there is no evidence of packet data connection, or wlan connection.
nothing is showing up in the logs or packet counters, and there is no pink circle around where i may be.
if i set maps to go online, w/ my wlan as the access point, or at&t internet, their respective icons show up on maps, as well as the phone's home screen.
the phone's log show respective connections are made but w/ 0.0kb, and the phone's packet counter, as well as the maps kb usage, say 0.0kb.
test 4:
set maps to offline, w/ my wlan as access point.
exited maps,
turned phone off for a bit to test gps from cold start.
turned on phone,
cleared counters/logs,
enabled only assisted gps and integrated gps.
open maps, there's no pink circle around where i may be, just the red dot of where it thought i last was.
there's about 4-5kb of data transfer,
then i bring the phone to the window where there's a lot of clear sky, and my location is found pretty fast.
i know that w/o assisted gps, w/ only integrated gps, it takes a while to get the gps signals.
i went back and forth to/from the window, and there was packet data use again only once more, not continuously like w/ network based positioning.
so to conclude my tests,
setting the maps to be offline, still uses a-gps and network based positioning.
network based uses a more data, continuously,
which is the opposite of what i thought, i thought a-gps would use more, so i was using network based on and a-gps off while in canada. whoops.
using assisted gps uses about 5-10kb, which, when roaming, according to at&t, they charge 1.95cents/kb.
might be worthwhile for getting a quick gps signal, nothing worse than waiting forever for it to connect.
the only way to be completely clear of data use is disable network based and assisted gps, or set the phone to offline mode.A-GPS: This uses information from cell network to get a rough idea of where you are. It then uses this information to figure out which satellites to look for. Result is a faster satellite lock. So A-GPS uses a few kB of data to get an initial position, but navigation is done using GPS satellites, which does not require ANY data connection.
Network based: This uses information from the cell network to plot the current position when GPS satellite signal is not available, ie indoors, in a tunnel, etc. Position info derived from the cell network is not as accurate as that from GPS satellites, but serves as a stopgap until GPS signal can be re-acquired. Network based positioning used your data connection EACH TIME the satellite lock is lost. So the amount of data used is dependent on the quality of access you have to the GPS satellites. If you don't lose the connection to the GPS satellites, then you won't use any data.
The ‘offline’ option within the Nokia Maps app only refers to street, POI, etc searches, NOT to A-GPS, Network based positioning or to connecting with the GPS satellites.
If you want to navigate without using ANY data connection, set A-GPS off AND set Network based positioning off AND set the Internet option in Nokia Maps to Offline. Do this and you will not use any of your data connection allowance when navigating. There is no need to put the phone into flight mode.
If I've helped you, you can thank me by clicking the green 'kudos' star on my post. Cheers. -
Dg4odbc to MySQL update errors: "does not support IS NULL in this context"
I am having a problem with 'where x is null' clauses in update statements to MySQL from 11g, using dg4odbc. Updates using the clause 'where x is null' return errors like this:
ORA-02070: database PLAZAHOST does not support IS NULL in this context
The rejected queries never get to mysql. Furthermore, I noticed that select statements with 'where x is null' show up in the mysql query log with the where clause stripped out, although correct results are returned to SQLPlus. It looks as though 'where x is null' is stripped off by dg4odbc, which subsequently applies a secondary filter to the results received from MySQL.
Note, both statements above work properly when issued from the MySQL client.
Has anybody seen this? It's a big problem for me, but I can't find any references to other people having the same problem, so I assume I've got something misconfigured -- but I don't know what.
I'm using MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver, MySQL 5.1 Community Edition, and Oracle 11g R1 all running on a 32-bit Windows server.
Thank you -- rick

So thze select will work as it is handled internally in the Oracle database. This also means as But "is null" isn't sent to the foreign MySQL db the update clause will fail with ORA-02070: database PLAZAHOST does not support IS NULL in this context
You need to recode the statement or use passthrough statements. -
OPEN LETTER TO NOKIA BIG-HEADS
N8: It's amazing technology: what will you do with it?
E7: Success looks like this right now.
Sadly, no.
Bugs to be resolved in Belle (amongst others that i may have overlooked) for E7 (and N8/C7 too)
1. Nokia Messaging Push Mail Service to function, as mentioned in product manuals and adverts
2. Communication Logs to log in Wifi and Packet Data, as mentioned in the product manuals
3. Access Point connection to be highlighted during connection as in previous Symbian
4. Most important: PLEASE, OH PLEASE, DO NOT CREATE NEW BUGS LIKE ANNA.
Only if you do the above, will you have the following advantages:
- existing customers's misery will be put out and our satisfaction and confidence be restored
- existing customers (like myself) will provide a good reference
- new customers, eventhough you have moved to WP7.x, will still buy your devices, as they will have confidence that you will take care of them
And if you do the above, i don't need to tell you what it translates for your bottom as well as top lines.
I will be super thrilled if some nokia senior executive acknowledges my post either publicly or privately.N8: It's amazing technology: what will you do with it?

Cant enable ePrint web services for Color LaserJet M551
Hi,
I've read all posts in this forum about the ePrint web services enabling issue and tried out all suggestions with no luck.
Here is the situation:
The printer works fine locally. I can print without problem.
The printer is wired.
All ports in my router are open for outbound connections, including UDP.
Using communication logs in my router I can see that the printer can resolve the DNS-names using either my ISP DNS-server or the suggested 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Using nslookup shows "registration-pro-site1print.houston.hp.com" resolves to 15.240.60.111 and "registration-pro-site2print.houston.hp.com" resolves to 15.201.224.79.
This indicates that the printer can indeed resolve the addresses. The logs also reveils that the printer communicates with the servers (connection established and data transferred) over https (probably the web service) but still after some minutes the enabling process times out.
I've tried this enabling procedure for several days now so my believe is that the registration servers should have worked some time during that period.
I'm frustrated
....even more frustrated
what am I doing wrong?
Please help !!

This question was solved.

Good luck to you facing the same problem !!

SCORM 1.2 tracking Captivate 3 lesson_location
I have a client who is using Captivate 3 to author a SCORM 1.2 course. When deployed to the LMS we have experienced problems with bookmarking, in that it does not appear to work all of the time.
On investigating this further using ADL Testsuite to track the data being passed between content and LMS, I was able to establish that a "lesson_location" vary rarely written back to the LMS, even upon Save and Exit. There were a couple of slides and button interactions that trigerred data to be written to the LMS, but upon looking at the author file, there was nothing to suggest why these slides or button clicks should send back data.
I have 2 questions.
1: Is it possible to manipulate when data is being written back to the LMS, ie, can I choose when a lesson_location is saved? The solution I am looking for would be one that is native to Captivate 3 and not a custom JavaScript solution as I need to provide it to a non developer a non developer.
2: What would be the likely cause of the lesson_location being sent to the LMS on the slides and button clicks that it did happen. Understanding this, I hope will help me manipulate it.
I appreciate any help you can provide on this.
Thanks,

How to diagnose rapid memory growth in Solaris 10 java server application
Hi,
We have a production java based server that experienced large memory growth recently and we are looking for help in diagnosing what might be the cause. The memory footprint of this java server application is limited to 120M using the jvm -Xmx switch. The server process size held consistently at around 180M until an event happened that caused the process size to rapidly increase to aprox 3G. We used the java jstat command to check the application heap usage within the jvm was within the specified limits.
This application can be performs java Runtime exec's to run simple shell scripts from a variety of java threads in the server app.
We have attempted to search for a cause by analysing the output of the pmap, pfiles, and pstack commands but have been unsuccessfull at this. We have also attempted to run the libumem.so library with the application in the hopes of using mdb to find out where the heap usage is. Unfortunately when we followed the instruction on using limumem the application stopped working due an ELF error.
The following are what we used for libumem:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libumem.so
UMEM_DEBUG=default
UMEM_LOGGING=transaction
export LD_PRELOAD UMEM_DEBUG UMEM_LOGGING
<run the application>
The error we got is:
ld.so.1: nohup: fatal: /usr/lib/libumem.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32
We are looking for advice on how to proceed in finding the cause for this growth. In addition to the diag info below we have captured the core file for the application from gcore. The following is the output from pfiles, pmap, pstack, and the showrev command.
Any help/suggestions appreciated.
Steve

SOCK_DGRAMI was finally able to reproduce this problem where I observed that within a 5 minute time span the jvm process grew from around 180M (VS) / 100M (RSS) to 2G (VS) / 1G (RSS). Here are some samplings at the end of my dtrace run showing the largest allocations that were made. We suspect this might be a JVM bug (since jstat reports our heap is well below the 120M limit we specified). Do you have any suggestions on how we might resolve this issue ?
Thanks,
Steve

We're seeing occasional crash in the JVM when running our application on Windows 7. This has been seen about 100 times so far across about 50 users/PCs.
The only thing in the stack is the JVM so it's not touching any of our code. Here's an example hotspot error file:
# A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:

Schema qualifier ignored in 11g
I am trying to connect to mysql database through DG4ODBC 11gR2 and have a problem.
When I query tables in the schema other than the one specified in odbc.ini by using a
schema qualified table name, I got table does not exist error. Seems to me DG4ODBC ignore
the schema qualifier, just take the table name, and qualify it with the schema specified
in odbc.ini
For example,
obdc.ini :
[MYSQL]
Driver=MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver
Server = localhost
PORT = 3306
DATABASE =db1 ###schema db1
USER=user
PASSWORD=pass
select count(*) from "db2"."table2"@MYSQLERROR at line 1:
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
[MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver][mysqld-5.0.67-community-log]Table
'db1.table2' doesn't exist {42S02,NativeErr = 1146}
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from MYSQL2
It really should translate into 'db2.table2'. It just ignored the schema qualifier db2 here,
and use db1 regardless.
The mysql user can indeed select tables in db1 and db2 in mysql server or through isql of unixODBC.
Plus, in hsodbc of oracle 10gR2, I used schema qualifier all the time and works too.
Did anybody experience similar problem in 11gR2 too?
Thanks,

SCORM 1.2 and Saba - Reporting a 0 Score for Track Slide views
Good morning,
We have just transitioned over to our new LMS, Saba. To say the transition has been rocky would be an understatement. So, here is what I am dealing with:
I have a very basic reader course where I want to grant someone credit once they have viewed all slides. I am using SCORM 1.2 and setting either "User Access Only" or "Slide Views Only." If I use slide views, I set it to 1, it sends a 0 score to the LMS, even if the user views all slides. I have been able to create a fix by assigning a point value to a click box or button at the screen where I want the user to get credit. However, this does not seem to be what was intended.
Below are screen shots of my publishing commands, Saba screens, and communication report between Saba and CP.

Coventry Health CareI would suggest you try using Percent instead of Score, and set the Slide View completion percentage to 100 instead of 1.
Change Reporting Level to Score instead of Interactions and Score.
You haven't shown the screen for Quiz > Pass or Fail settings, but you need to set the passing percentage there to 100% as well if you intend that the learner must view every single slide.
Bear in mind that when using slide views, if you have any navigation buttons on the slides that are set to jump to the next slide when clicked, then the learner does not get a completion mark for those slides. In Captivate you have to watch a slide all the way to the last frame in order to get it marked as completed. If for some reason you need to get slides marked as completed despite not being viewed (e.g. when using branching) then you can use our TickTOC widget to gain credit for those slides that are missed or not watched to the end.
http://www.infosemantics.com.au/ticktoc
If you suspect that not all slides will be viewed, you can adjust the Pass/Fail percentage to something less than 100% to allow for the missed ones.
Try these changes and see if it works.
Once you DO find the settings that allow Captivate to work with SABA I would be very interested to know what they were. I've got a page on my website where I want to show the Captivate config settings for SABA: http://www.infosemantics.com.au/lms_guide/saba I don't have access to this LMS myself, but perhaps you or other SABA users on this forum can contribute information to make it easier for others to work with it.
