N8 firmware + extra files

Hello all nokia owners!!
since a couple of weeks i've got myself a Nokia N8 and after some screwing around with the phone i couldn't connect with the OVI store for a day or two, so i deceided to reset the phone.
everything was allright after that except for a couple of thing, when i connected my N8 to the computer to use the phone as a modem it didnt react and i've seem to lost some other things that were installed when i got my phone. like the file to use your phona as modem "phone_as_modem.iso"
Now is the question here: does anybody has the official flashing file so i could get the full functionals of my phone back.
And if you just got the files i need to put back on the phone, it also would make me happy.

if reinstalling the firmware using Ovi Suite doesn't help, i suggest to go to Nokia Care Point to have them reflash the device. only they have such files.
tell them that you reset the device so they should know what to do.

NSS6000 "Firmware Update Error: The firmware image file is corrupt."

Hello All,
I've recently run into a problem trying to update the firmware on our NSS6000 to either 1.20.1 or 1.21.0. We are currently running 1.16-3.
Each time after I click "Upgrade Firmware", the upgrade fails with the same error: "Firmware Update Error: The firmware image file is corrupt. Obtain another copy of the file and try the firmware upgrade again".
I've tried re-downloading the NSS6000_FW_1.20.1.tar.gz and NSS6000_FW_1.21.0.tar.gz several times from multiple PCs, and using multiple browsers. I've tried several combinations of Windows Server 2003R2, Windows Server 2008R2, Windows 7, and Firefox, Chrome, and IE 8/9.
The downloads all appear to be fine, and they all can open/extract with 7-zip without issue. The file sizes are always the same.
No combination of OS/Browser yields a different result on the upgrade attempt either.
I tried renaming NSS6000_FW_1.21.0.tar.gz to NSS6000_fwupgrade_0121.tar.gz to match the convention used in early versions (thinking that the extra "."'s could be the issue) but no luck either.
I was able to successfully re-apply the NSS6000_fwupgrade_0116.tar.gz firmware without any issues at all.
A strange thing I noticed, though, was on the "The system will reboot now. Please close your browser." window, it shows the device as an "NSS2000 2-Bay Gigabit Network Storage System" (please see attached screenshot). I'm chalking that up to a simple reusing-the-same-web-code issue rather than the root of the problem, but thought I should mention that as well.
Has anyone else run into this issue, or have any suggestions for workarounds in order to successfully upgrade the FW on this device? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Not sure what is going on i haven't see the issue you are having, can you try downloading both images at a different location; instead of behind your router. Also upgrade to .20 and then .21. Im pasting the release notes upgrades step.

v1.21.0 the Configuration GUI displays a "Programming images.." message
for more than 12 minutes (the time it takes to upgrade the firmware is
usually 5 to 10 minutes).
The workaround is to wait at least 15 minutes to complete the upgrade and
then power cycle the NSS by removing the power cord. Do not try and
access the Configuration GUI during this time. (CSCsx17923) When upgrading the firmware from v1.12 to v1.14, v1.12 to v1.20.1, or v1.12 to
v1.21.0 the Configuration GUI displays a "Programming images.." message
for more than 12 minutes (the time it takes to upgrade the firmware is

Can you use an external hard drive (G-Tech 1 TB) as both a time machine and for storing extra files?

I just got a new external hard drive and will be getting my macbook pro next week. I was wondering if the external hard drive could be used as both a time machine and to have extra files on it? And if so how would you do that?

Time Machine requires a drive that is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled), so you will need to check to make sure that this requirement is met.
A drive that the manufacturer says will work with both Mac and Windows will not work with Time Machine.

Extra files from C Drive are beng included in Dreamweaver site file

Has anyone encountered this issue? Extra files from computer's C Drive are being included in the Dreamweaver website cache (within Dreamweaver) but are not located in the website file on the computer. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you

Nope. I can honestly say this has never happened to me probably because I always keep my local site folder in a separate directory on my main hard drive.
C:\MySiteName

How do you include extra files with an AIR for iOS Publish?

I've seen people mention they can include .html, .js, etc files with their iOS for AIR publish when making an iOS application from flash.
What I haven't seen is how these people include extra files (html, css, images, videos, etc) to be packaged into the IPA during publish.
How is this accomplished?

I backup to an external hdd with Time Machine, when it ran out of space it did not delete old backups, now my internal hdd says its full when before it had heaps of space. I have searched for extra files but cant find any. Can anyone help, please.

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

Putting Extra files on DVD

Hi,
How does one go about putting extra files on a DVD. I want the DVD to play the video normally when it is put in a DVD player, but I also want a Quicktime file to be stored on the DVD so it can be accessed on a computer.

You can build the videots/audiots files with DVDSP, then use toast or disc utility to burn these and the QT file to a DVD.

How can I load preview images into an extra file?

I've got a question concerning those preview images. I wrote a plugin which uses the actual paths of the photos in the catalog an stores those paths of each photo into a log file. Then an external program has access to that file for further handling. So now I would like to use preview photos instead of the raw images. First, because the user might want to use the picture he/she edited with Lightroom; And then because of the size.Processing a preview image of level 5 would be more efficient than the original photo.
So how can I get those preview photos? And more important: is it possible to store them in an extra file in a jpg format for instance, so that an external program can make use of them?

LR4 to PS and back creates extra file?

I recently updated from LR3 to LR4. My edit in Photoshop preferences are for a psd.
When I "edit in Photoshop" using LR4, Lightroom immediately creates a "filename-edit.psd" file. With LR3, only when I saved from within PS did it create the new file edit.psd file. I like to keep the option open to use "save as" and save just a jpg if I know this is going to be my final edit and not have a psd. Now if I save as a jpg, I end up with an extra .psd file. Is this a change in LR4 or have I not set something that I had set in LR3?

IDVD extra files

Hi !
I added extra files in the DVD-Rom. But the only way i've found to get those files when i insert the disk in the imac, is to double click on the DVD in the finder, so i can see and extract the extra files.
Question: is it possible to place a button on the DVD menu that open directly the extra files contained in the DVD-Rom ? So it would be more interactiv (and simple for my old mother

I restored multiple TM backups onto new HDD, need to find/erase extra files

Help! My original 60GB HDD crashed on my iBook. With Applecare warranty, it was replaced with a new 120GB HDD. I attempted to restore last backup from 160GB external HDD using Time Machine. I somehow restored all three previous backups onto iBook. Now my iBook has triple the size of data stored on it. How do I locate and erase the extra files from my iBook?

Pop in you Install Disk, erase the Internal HD and Restore from the last Time Machine backup before the Internal went south.

Exe extra file

Hi,
I have been wondering about this for a while. When I make a simple exe, I get a bunch of exra files such as a .aliases, a ini, and a lvanlys.dll file (in a data folder). What are they? My exe doesn't call for these file at all. If I were to send the exe to others, do I have to send all these extra files? If so, is there a way to avoid having multiple files? Thanks!

The DLL is necessary because your program called some LabVIEW analysis function. If you don't pass along that DLL, the program will complain when you start it on a different machine.
The INI is just a place where relevant LabVIEW settings were copied from your DevSys. Things like WebServer settings are stored there. Open it in NotePad or something and take a look. If you don't use those things, toss the INI file. If you DO use the webserver, or OLE, or something else mentioned in there, then you might need the file. You can also store your own settings in that file (see INI handler VIs).
I can't offer a good explanation for the .ALIASES. But I throw it away every time. It contains the IP addresses of my two remote targets from my project ("RTEC = 192.168.1.199"), and the line "My Computer = localhost".
I suppose I could use that somehow, but I never have.
Be aware that if you want to "send the exe to others", they have to have the LabVIEW RTE installed (Run-Time Engine). You can make an installer that does that for you, but the EXE is not sufficient by itself.

Extra files?

I've been using Dreamweaver for almost 10 years and I've
never had this problem before. It is creating these random
documents that look like HTML docs in dreamweaver but they have no
extension. The files are named like e8194f3b, f7a130c1, 17597e5e,
etc. I've seen files like this pop-up before when using the preview
feature but I haven't been previewing anything.
Oh and when you open up the files they are just code versions
of my regualr pages.
I'm using Dreameweaver 8 on OS X.
How do I stop Dreamweaver from creating this extra
files?

CS4 via download and extra files??

When I purchased Photoshop CS via disks in mail, I received the program disk and extra files. Obtained CS3 via download and got no extras.
If I order CS4 via download, is there a way to obtain the extras ??

Having purchased CS4 (ID, PS and IL) separately, and downloading all three, I too am wondering about the extra content.
For example, when downloading PS CS4, I had to use the Adobe download manager. There were two files (one was obviously PS itself and then a smaller extra content file).
I clicked on, downloaded and subsequently installed the larger PS file. My question is this. Does the download manager also know to download the smaller extra content file or do I have to go and click on the smaller file separately (after PS is loaded)?
I did go back and click on the smaller file but this looked like it might be trying to also download (again) the larger file, so I canceled it off before telling it where to install it to.
Appreciate any insight on this.

HP dmg firmware update files won't open in Lion

Another nasty suprise in lion...
Just bought a HP p1102w printer to replace an old HP 5p I've got an iPad 2 and iMac. Really wanted to be able to print wirelessly to the p1102w from the iPad 2. The printer installed fine on the iMac and works great.
When I went to establish a wifi connection, nothing was visible in airprint. Once again, HP (and apple) are touting that ipads will be able to wirelessly print and the setup is easy etc. Apple recommends the HP p1102w as a functioning printer...
Apple always seems to be left behind in the HP development process and once again it seems to be true. After an hour on the phone, the HP people told me the drivers need firmware update. So, I downloaded it ( LJP1100_P1560_P1600_FW_Update.dmg ) When I went to open the image and run the update, the driver update had the old "appleworks" logo on it. When clicking to update, nothing happened.
Called HP again and they said, "Probably just bad download." Redid it and same result. Upon further conversations I pressed them on why lion would run the update... When they looked into it, they basically said, "Looks like our updaters don't work with lion." Of course, they said it's apple's fault for releasing Lion. I mentioned they probably haven't spent any time checking anything till lion arrived (they admitted they don't do any updating till final product is out).
He did say that the firmware update ran fine in snowleopard, so I should just install it on a machine running 10.6.8 (ha! not rich enough to afford 3 or 4 computers a one time). They said they're working on it, but who knows when it will work.
so, I've got a new iPad 2, a new printer and a new OS on my iMac and can't get the firmware to update so printer will work for iPad 2.
I don't understand why the firmware update can't be somehow sent to the iPad 2... This whole system of doing things for my iPad 2 through iTunes or another computer is rather confoluted. Just wish the iPad 2 ran a unix base and didn't have to mess with a placenta like iTunes.
Sorry for the long rant... The question is:
How can I get my iPad 2 to print to the hp P1102w asap (I hate to wait for HP, apple always gets second class treatment for development with them...)
Also, beware of some updates on images may no run in lion. Looks like they used ppc or programing and doesn't work now. All sorts of nasty suprizes when you obliterate the ability to run some of the software for earlier OSs....
(Too bad apple doesn't keep rosetta or some translator for these older OSs... I've now got 1000's of Appleworks files and other ppc software files that can't be opened anymore).

OK, I did a bit more work, here is a workaround that I verified works on 10.7.
- Download the HP Firmware
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL32545/bi-95186-1/LJP1100_P1560_P1600_ FW_Update.dmg
- Disconnect your computer's ethernet. Turn off your computer's AirPort.
- Connect the printer to your computer via USB
- Run the utility
- Follow the instructions from there
