N8 - GPS co-ordinates in Pictures

I have taken the odd picture with the GPS co-ordinate activated and although I can open the picture and view (part of) the co-ordinate whilst the picture is in the camera, I have not yet found a way to view the entire co-ordinate on the camera or any part of it on the PC.
This seems a really good feature (for example to mark the position of a gravestone on a picture) and of course it would be good to be able to click on the co-ordinate and use the GPS to navigate to the point.
I would welcome any help. (I hope it does not require the use of Ovi Suite!)

Thanks for your response. I have now managed to view the entire co-ordinate. I had already long pressed on the location but I think I had been that disturbed that the only option was to delete the co-ordinate that I did not linger long enough to notice that it was scrolling.
I will have a look at Picasa for the PC, even if only to view pictures with co-ordinates.
I would imagine that seeing as a long press already brings up the option to 'delete', it would be relatively straight forward to add a 'navigate to' or 'show on map' option.
I will see if I can put a comment to that effect on the maps 3.08 Beta Site.

I am trying to find out exactly where a picture was taken but the GPS co-ordinates embedded in the image point to a spot in the Irish Sea and yet the image is of a vehicle on dry land?
Is an iPhone's GPS so far out or am I converting the numbers incorrectly?

You can add an address field and put the coordinates into the Street entry using the xxx.xxxx, (-) xxx.xxxx decimal format with NOTHING else in the contact and it will look it up properly from OSX (Mac) Address book when you LEFT click on the address title (home, work, custom, etc) and select "Map this Address".
Unfortunately, when this is synced to iOS mobile devices, they add the default country name your address book is set for, which means when you select the GPS coordinates, it goes to Maps and shows the wrong location.
Within Maps, however, you can then delete the country (which fouls it up, even if it is the correct country) and the coordinates will show you the correct location. I have not found a way to delete the country default entry in iOS.
After much searching, my conclusion is that iOS needs an update to allow for a blank country code or a field addition specifically for GPS coordinates.

How do I use my iPhone 4s to set GPS co-ordinates to use at a later date?

I'm wanting to go to an aread in the bush - enter the GPS co-ordinates in my iPhone 4s and then be able to go back to the same place at a later date. How do I go about it. I have no idea if I even have a GPS on my iPhone 4s.

There is a built in GPS and map function that provides basic navigation using Google Maps. It's hard to miss right there on the home screen. However, it is maunal; you have to tap "next" when you reach each waypoint, and it does not provide spoken directions. It also downloads maps in real time, so it can be slow if you have a slow data connection, and it uses a lot of data if you are on a limited data plan. It is excellent for walking and public transportation, less useful in a vehicle unless you have a navigator sitting in the car.
There are several commercial GPS apps that you can buy from the App Store, but no free ones. Just search the App Store for "GPS".

If you have several photos taken at the same location you can use the Lift&Stamp tool to copy the GPS data to the other images.
Seelct the image, press the "Lift" button, deselect all tags in the Lift&Stamp HUD but the GPS coordinates, then select all photos taken at the same place and and press the "Stamp" tool. (marked by the down arrow)
Alternately use the "Places View". You will see the photos with a GPS location marked by a pin. Drag the photos you want to assign to the same place simply to that pin on the map and they will be assigned to the same place.

Can this solution be integrated with devices that give GPS location? The requirement is to validate the location of a sales executive through the GPS co-ordinates before approving the reimbursement for travel expenses. How can this be done with Cloud for Travel and Expense?

The entire use case is not clear to me.
Seems like the approver wants to verify whether the sales exec really was on that business trip and is not just claiming expenses for a false trip and this verification is supposed to happen via some device the sales exec carries with him.
That correct?
Also please provide your detailed business case?

Getting GPS Co-Ordinates

First of all, I hope that I am making this question in the right forum.
Secondly, I am new to JavaME, so these questions might sound stupid.
What I would like to know is if it is possible to obtain the GPS Co-Ordinates in a manner that is similar to the way that GoogleMaps get the location through the MyLocation feature, which basically performs triangulation and uses a phone's GPS (if present) to get the co-ordinates of the phone. The application I will use will not be running in a browser.

If your phone supports [JSR-179|http://jcp.org/aboutJava/communityprocess/final/jsr179/index.html] then you can get geo-location info. If your phones does not then you might be able to get CellID info and [you can look that up|http://www.opencellid.org/] to get approximate location info. If your phone supports Bluetooth AND [JSR-82|http://jcp.org/aboutJava/communityprocess/final/jsr082/index.html] then you can access and read GPS coordinates from a [external GPS receiver|http://www.buygpsnow.com/].

Photos does not support to add location information yet.
Add the GPS before you import the photos to Photos. I hope this will change with the next release.
You could ,for example, first import to iPhoto, add the locations, batch change the titles and captions, do all the things that are not yet supported in the new Photos, then export the photos from iPhoto and import them to Photos.
Or use the free exiftool, if you like the Terminal.

Can't enter GPS co-ordinates!!!

I've had this problem long ago when I had to goto a far away place, now and I'm having it AGAIN.
On my Nokia E71, open up your GPS program which is OVI maps.
Click OPTIONS, then SEARCH and then ADDRESS
On this page, CLICK OPTIONS, then Search by coordinates.
I can't see the bottom line, so it reads:
00 00'00.00"N, 00
Next line which is hidden.
This needs to be fixed!!!!
I've tried to push "enter" so see if I can make the line scrollable, but it doesn't work.
I've attached a 'photo' of the problem for VISIBLE confirmation.

I'm currently attempting to create a 2D scrolling map based on GPS co-ordinates

Basically I want I user to be able to view there route based on british grid references form the GPS unit in rel time on a front end vi. Is this possible? please help.

Now it's a bit more clear what you intend to do. As far as I understand you want to display the location of the rover unit on a onboard computer which, I assume, must display a map of the area being traversed.
Provided the short range you are aiming at, I can suggest your using of a simple raster chart being home-made or in a suitable format. Alternative to this system is a more complicated and more costly vectorized chart system which is not usually on the same format of the ENC charts. Please tell us about this issue.
Other questions are:
1. Do you need to log the trajectory of the rover ?
2. Do you need alarms triggered by user-defined events ?
3. Are you going to use a radio-link (UHF, spread-spectrum, etc.) to transmit the
real-time position to a base center ?

Pictures with GPS-data will not be shown in list-view (PSE 11, Win7)

A lot of pictures of my collection do have GPS-data in EXIF-header. Sometimes they are shown on the world-map, sometimes not. In list-view they are never shown. The list-view knows only locations, which are matched with PSE.
The EXIF-input was made by two different tools (Holux GPS Software and Geosetter 3.4.16).
How can I get the list-view for the saved files without using PSE adding location?

Using locations in photo app for pictures with GPS info

I used a program (Geosetter) to add GPS data to my pictures taken on my camera. However, when I put the pictures on my iphone they dont show up under the locations section in the photo app - is there anyway to fix this?

LR4: Export to Flickr removes GPS data

I've just uploaded a picture to my Flickr photostream from within Lightroom 4 release version (Win 7 64 bit). I geotagged the picture in Lightroom's new Maps module and the image shows GPS co-ordinates in the Metadata panel in the Library module.
The photo on flickr has no GPS data and does not appear on the map in Flickr. I've downloaded the original version of the picture from Flickr and opened in the GeoSetter tool, which confirms that no GPS data is embedded in the JPEG file.
In Lightroom 4's "Publish Services" section Flickr does not have the "Remove Location Info" setting ticked under metadata.
Does anyone have any ideas of anything I can try?

EDIT: I've just tried to export a picture using the normal export button in the Library module. In this dialog box "Remove Location Info" was ticked. I unticked it and exported and can confirm that GPS data is successfully stored in this image. It just doesn't seem to get to Flickr using the built-in publishing service for some reason.

Update. I went to manually add GPS data in Flickr and realized LR4 did upload the data correctly, but until I clicked on the map in Flickr it didn't seem to "activate". I had to do it for each image. Very odd integration.
This seems to be the best I can do, too.
To be clear:
When publishing from LR4 to Flickr, the GPS data appears to get stripped. When I view the picture in my photostream, the map on the right looks blank. If I open the photo in the Flickr "Organize & Create" area, the Latitude and Longitude dialogue boxes are empty. HOWEVER, if I go back and view the photo in my photostream, then click on the map to add a location, the enlarged map shows the photo in the correct spot. If I click Save Location from here, the Latitidue and Longitude are saved correctly and all is well.
I get exactly the same behavior if I export from LR4 to my hard drive and then upload from my hard drive to Flickr.

GPS data does not show up in mobileme gallery or exif info of exported pics

I used places to geotag some of my pictures.
That went nicely, and I now have Latitude and Longitude Metadata entries
in the exif part of the metadata displayed by Aperture.
However, when I export these pictures to JPG, this information is gone;
the metadata of the exported pic does not contain latitude/longitude information.
Likewise, when publishing these pics to mobileme, no gps information is found in the
"information" part.
How do I write the gps data to the picture such that exports contain it and mobileme will display it?

Similar to bjrnfrdnnd2, I have the 'Include location info in exported photos' button selected all the time in the Export Preferences. Unlike him however, the GPS information developed using Places (lat & long) does not get exported when I export photos. It is not present when I reimport the photo back into Aperture, nor does it show up in Preview when I examine the file using Inspector in the Tools menu (I export the Master File).
Interestingly, if I export a photo from iPhoto with the include location info box checked, the GPS info does import into Aperture without problem AND, most strangely, will also export with the GPS information regardless of whether the 'Include location info in exported photos' is selected in the preferences or not. The same thing happens if I import a geotagged photo from my iPhone into Aperture; that is, the GPS information gets exported regardless of what the Preference setting is.
Exactly the same thing happens on my MacBook.
I've checked my disk for problems using DiskUtility, repaired the Aperture Library, tried using a new library and also deleted the Aperture preferences file and created a new one. All to not avail.
All I can conclude is that depending on how the GPS data are input into Aperture (as part of a photo that is imported or as determined within Aperture using Places) the information is stored differently and so is attached (or not) differently to exported photos.
Has anyone else experienced this issue or does anyone know what might be wrong here?

First of all my topic may sounds so silly, stupid and pretty long but believe me im just a16 years old boy and its like im the Only hope for everyone around me who has n95 for getting our GPS working here in QATAR, espcially that everyone have thoughts thats its about our Operator which doesnt have such like these services.
After i read tenths of threads, posts and also every linked guides for GPS, i understood alot but still alittle bit confused and want to make sure that i got everything correct in my mind.
Heres my story: I installed the new version (1.2) of Maps application to my mobile as afirst step or lets say it came already when i upgraded the firmware into v12. From what i've read i can say that i can see or search into maps simply if i already upload my area's maps into the mobile using Maps Uploader, but if i want to navigate, get more facilites and route some trips, i must connect to GPS satalites to get my position locked then start using the services (of course using the internal GPS receiver) but im wondering how much it would take for getting locked at the first time after doing all that instructions such as opening the slide .. etc I tried to get asignal for mroe than 10 minutes and Nothing had come) So in this case an Internet connection whether its WLAN or GPRS has nothing to do with GPS system at all (like it wont help to connect into these satalites or getting faster connection because that would be A-GPS) except for getting/downloadings some new maps/areas. Is that correct so far or im wrong ?? and if im wrong would i get more faclitles on the map using that connection if im using GPS ??
Now about A-GPS, i can say from the searches thats its like an advanced type of normal GPS system ,it uses extra online servers for a better, faster and more reliable positioning which you would be able to connect into these servers using an Internet Connection (otherwise, for instance having AGPS without this connection then you are using normal GPS after all) and thats the difference i could find out so far and again please correct me if im wrong ?
Another wonders about the navigation systems, surely thing that it takes longer time for getting locked from satalites for the first time using GPS, so if i could connect using an Internet connection to get locked faster, after that i use anormal GPS for navigation since im not able to get any network all the time and everywhere in my case, would i get locked faster than using normal GPS for positioning at the first time ??
At the end, you could see that most of my confusion is about the network and what does it do for the GPS ? and honestly i would say that also on my self.
Any extra hints or info besides my questions would be really much appreciated

As you are aware N95 v12.0.013 does not have latest Maps application although it does have A-GPS feature, so needs Nokia Maps 1.0 update S60 3rd Edition (3Mb) installed in phone memory. You now have the three led (yellow and green) icon bottom right of screen and data download meter in kb's at bottom left.
With reference to first satellite lock-on, if no A-GPS assistance it can take anything up to 20 minutes or sometimes longer to establish position. TTFF=time to first fix is often quoted for BT GPS receivers. Subsequent satellite lock-ons will be a lot faster as it now knows in which part of the world you are and which satellites can be expected.
Go outside away from tall buildings with clear view of sky, hold phone with keypad slider open at 45 degrees, don't cover the "#" key as GPS antenna is below this.
Go to Menu > Tools > Settings > GPS data > Position > Open > Options > Satellite status > Open:
You will see a number of empty rectangles with numbers beside which turn solid black; you need a minimum of three solid black rectangles, but usually get four for satellite lock-on and triangulation to work.
If you don't get any solid bars by 20 mins your GPS isn't working!
The A-GPS feature simply uses a remote server to do the number crunching (this is what saves time) once the respective satellites have been identified by internal GPS and your "as needed" network connection may be either via WLAN or Network provider.
You will always get greater detail on your map when zooming in if your network connection is "as needed" either via WLAN or Network provider.
Lastly network providers can sometimes support the system by correlating mast location with GPS co-ordinates: in this case it is like a learning curve where the more users who use A-GPS feed more data into the system and speed up the whole process for everyone.

LR4 Export to disk is loosing GPS-coordinates

Hi,
Noticed that when I export pictures to disk (Publis Service Hard Drive: Export) that I loose the GPS-coordinates of the pictures. The Location info is still there (that's the reversed gps-location-lookup data).
Is this a bug or is that intended behaviour. I did not check: remove location info, in the Settings dialogue.
Note that exporting to SmugMug does not omit the gps-coordinates, and is mapping the pictures fine.

I add the coordinates in Lightroom in the Map feature... which works great for me, btw.
