N8 GPS Issues

I have a problem getting a precise location on the GPS, I can only get rough locations with ca. 500m radius.
If I try enabling Integrated GPS only, or both Integrated and Assisted I can never get any positioning. Even after being outdoors for long periods of time.
But as soon as I enable Wi-Fi/Network based positioning methods I get a rough location instantly ranging from 300m up to 5 km radius. And it updates while I'm driving around, but I never get a precise location like you would from a GPS, so I can't use it for navigating.
I downloaded LeGPSData 1.0. It shows 10-11 Satellites in view, but always 0 Satellites used. And the signal strength on all of them is always at bottom. I never get a Latitude or Longitude in that program.
I just got my phone back from repair, it was dead. They replaced the "motherboard" in the phone, and GPS hasn't worked since I got it. Worked just fine prior to repair.
Could it be the GPS function is broken on the new board?

If LeGPSData shows lots of satellites in view, but never shows any satellites used, and the signal level for the satellites always remains at zero, it sure sounds like you need to send your phone back for that to be repaired.  I'd suggest you go out on a bright sunny day, with a full view of the sky, and read a book for fifteen minutes or so.  If you still don't get useable data, I think something is broken.
Make sure the battery is fully charged, so the phone doesn't do anything to "save power", and cycle the phone off/on before you do this, just in case.
Nokia (maybe Beta labs??) has/had a diagnostic utility.  Maybe this checks GPS operation?
As a side question - I've got LeGPSData on my N8 also.  It shows white lettering against a black background.  If I go to Optioins > Satellite Status, much of what I see is white lettering against a very light gray background.  For the most part, it's unreadable.  Did you find a way to fix this, or does your screen look better, and is easy to see?

  • GPS issue please help me please

    Hi guys,
Well i know there are several forms for GPS issue but i cant find the right one for me...Please guys help me if u can.
I have N95 8 GB with GPS activated for Middle East Dubai....
Now the issue is this that before i was used to connect very quickly say about 10 minutes but right now i mean as of last couple of weeks its taking hell of time indeed not connecting at all...I place my mobile and my frnds mobile at same place but mine is not connecting at all...his mobile connects like in minute or so....please can u guys help me...my mobile is rarely used for 3 months...
Do i need to change some settings....If satellite is not available it sudnt connect to my frnds same mobile v20....but it connects to him not to mine....

First thing you do is to run GPS Data in connectivity and see if the phone achieves GPS lock any faster than now.
Secondly, run Nokia Maps, Goto Options>About and tell us the version you have. It should be accross the top of the screen.

  • GPS issues on CDMA iPhone?

i'm getting pretty frustrated with the GPS issues with the CDMA iPhone.
i cannot maintain a consistent lock with GPS for more than a few minutes.
on Navigon: GPS looses every 4 minutes or so, and the speed indicator never shows a consistent speed, it'll show 60, 60, 0, 58, 58, 0, etc... then it will loose lock and take quite some time to get it back.
on GPS Drive (motion GPS): it will drive for a few more minutes, but then loose lock for minutes at a time.
on the GSM iPhone, i never had these problems.
anyone have any suggestions or fixes for the problem?

I feel your pain.  I have the same issue with my CDMA iPhone and there have been numerous threads in regards to it and there has never been any acknowledgement from Apple that an issue even exists.  Some people have noted that doing a hard reset of the phone, or restoring your phone from a backup have lessened the issue, but to my knowledge nobody has posted a guaranteed cure.  One thing that I have noticed that if you're using bluetooth in your car, turn it completely off (under settings/general/bluetooth) as a test and then try your GPS apps again.  The problem seemed to occur significantly less.  Another noteworthy point is that the Maps app that comes with the phone doesn't seem to have this problem.  Please comment back in regards to bluetooth and Maps with your results.  Also for all it's worth, you can send feedback to Apple in regards to this.  I did so, but never heard a response, but none the less that's the place to also post issues such as this.  Here's the link...
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
One think of interest is that it is an assisted GPS.  It uses WIFI, cell towers, GPS and who knows what else to pinpoint your position.  And there has been some privacy concerns (a little overblown if you ask me though) over the data collected by Apple to pinpoint your position.  Apple has admitted to discovering bugs in iOS 4 in regards to this and has indicated that an update is forthcoming to address this.  So maybe our problems are related.  Keep your fingers crossed!

  • I need some help with my GPS issue

I'm writing to ask you if You could somehow help me solve my GPS issue. I own Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. I've recently updated it's software and installed the new OVI Maps. I know that there is an option to use it offline which means without an Internet connection. When I start the Maps application and choose the offline mode, the only thing that appears at the top of the screen is "Searching position". The map is available but my position can't be specified without Internet on. When I turn my wireless router on, even though my maps are set in offline mode, it automatically connects to the Internet and spends something like 5KB download. If I keep navigating it spends even more. I've left my mobile phone offline to search for my position for an about half an hour but nothing happened. So, my question is, could you tell me what to do and how to use OVI Maps offline?

Assuming you are useing Maps 3.06 from beta labs and the map data is the latest compatible maps installed through ovi suite, then all should work well provided you followed the installation instructions correctly. If you don't use assisted gps or any other method of positioning except integrated Gps then you need to be in an open space with clear view of the sky to allow the GPS antenna to get a lock, this can take 10 to 30 minutes (the first time you try for a lock, shouldn't take that long again) and once you have a lock the location should work fine. The reason the other methods are available is thet they speed up the whole process and also work when in built up areas where buildings can block thre satelite view from the gps antenna. The amount of data used to lock your position is minimal and unless you have zero data allowance I suggest using all the positioning methods. If using the navigation abroad, you can disable evrything and simply use integrated GPS as long as you've loaded the local map data to your phone previously.
    Good Luck

  • N86 GPS issues

    Hi,
Posted this seperately from the N97 GPS issues but I'm having similar issues with my N86, namely speed regularly drops to 0, the route is repeatedly recalculated for no obvious reason, the map constantly rotates its orientation (just like being on a waltzer) and my location shifts off road by "some considerable margin" before settling down.
I've also noticed that I often can't get a GPS lock without switching the phone off and back on again after a few seconds. I always gets a fix within 5-10 seconds after a reboot.
I always have the e-mail client in the background but no other apps running.
Has anyone else, apart from the N97 owners (you know who you are) experienced these issues.
I'm running N86-1 on Orange with 10.086 with Maps v3.0.09wk18b01 and map version 0.1.22.103
    Alun.
N8-00 (Product Code: 059C5Q8 (UK Generic)) FW Belle (111.030.0609.377.01)
    Orange 5.1, NK702, 7110, 8310, 7250, 6230, N70, N95-1, N86 8MP, N8-00

I have the same problem, the phone is now on it's second trip for repair.  I "upgraded" from a N82, with a working GPS.
When I compare my old N82 with the N86, I can se that the N86 drops all connection to the GPS satellites every second minute. (I use the built in program GPS data, looking at satellite data on both devices at the same time, my old N82 stays connected, but the N86 has to recalculate after it has lost the connection every second minute)
This is a real problem for me, I use Nokia Sportstracker to record all my training, and with the N86 I get some rather odd recordings, due to this constant recalculating of the current position. A training (verified) trip for 5 kilometers on N82 can be more than 6 km on N86. This of course gives me a good average speed, but I prefer to record the correct one...
I am now waiting for the return after the second repair period of 4 weeks, maybe they can fix it, otherwise I'll have to buy something that works.

  • GPS Issues with Ellipsis 7

I am getting inaccurate and sometimes slow to respond GPS issues with my Ellipsis 7.  it seems that the refresh rate for the GPS is extremely slow so when i'm looking at the maps while driving the dot moves every 1-2 seconds as opposed to moving with me.  even after doing several factory resets the issue still doesn't go away.  It makes Ingress very frustrating when you keep jumping around unable to get a fix on a portal.
is anyone else having this or similar issues?
Also my tablet suffers from the 1GB App Space issue.
any resolutions on the above issue too?

clearly you are misinformed SarahO_VZW.  according to the Important Note: Memory Management i dont have the latest software.  Plus I already called into support and they sent me a box.  I am really getting sick and tired of the lack of consistent knowledge btwn Support Reps.  and this extends beyond just this Ellipsis 7 Device it also includes the Lumia Cyan Update that was supposed to be pushed to all Windows 8 Phones this year but hasn't.  I get one answer from one technician and a completely contradictory answer from another agent.
I used to work for Verizon in TechSupport for Verizon FiOS.  and we all had our facts straight as to what was what.  but the Wireless Division is all screwed up.
My advise to you Sarah from one Tech Support Rep to another.  Please read all responses in the forum and do more research before you answer a question and don't be afraid to ask clarifying questions of your superiors before answering.

  • Droid 3 GPS issues

Over the past month or so, the GPS on my Droid 3 has been acting funny.  Examples:  using Google Maps, it will sometimes not find the GPS signal (yes, I'm outside).  In other times, like yesterday, it worked fine but about 35 minutes into the drive, the GPS signal was lost.  I tried turnign the GPS on and off but I eventually had to re-start the phone.  It happened again on the drive home.  Using Foursquare, sometimes the GPs will not respond when I hit the "check-in" button.  Yes the GPS is on.
Because the GPS works some of the time and after re-starting the phone, that it is likely a software issue.  It seems othere have had this issue.  Is there a solution?
    Thanks

    Hi FBrown,
I see how a failing GPS feature can be frustrating when relying on it to get to a specific place. By reading your post I see that this GPS failure can be attributed to a loss of data signal somewhere along your trip. Additionally, when checking in with the FourSquare application (or any similar application) GPS may fail particularly indoors as some structural properties may greatly impact wireless signal. The GPS behavior described in your post may be normal depending on location and wireless signal strength.
I checked my resources and I was not able to locate any similar issues reported. However, I would recommend running your Droid 3 in Safe Mode next time you use your Google Maps navigation application and/or your FourSquare application. Running your phone in Safe Mode temporarily disables all applications that have been installed via the Android Market. Performing this troubleshooting step is necessary to determine whether a 3rd party application is causing the GPS feature to fail.
If the GPS issue is resolved while in Safe Mode, you must identify the conflicting 3rd application and remove it. You may need to remove all 3rd applications and re-install one by one in order to identify the application causing the issue.

  • Did they bother to fix the GPS issues in new update 3.1.3?

Just wondering if they have bothered to fix the gps issues that countless people seen to have with the 3gs, me included. We shouldn't have to mess around putting phone into airplane mode, turning location settings on and off and resetting network settings to get googlemaps to pick up the bloody gps, only to then have it not work again as soon as you exit maps and having to repeat the process. With the amount of people suffering the same issues it leads me to believe the reason it hasn't been addressed is because apple don't know how to fix if. Although not documented as one of the fixes I was just wondering if it's performing any better. Any info is appreciated, cheers.

    Here's what's reported... http://www.theiphoneblog.com/2010/02/02/apple-releases-iphone-313-iphone-ipod-to uch-devices/
It's only been out for about an hour so we won't know if there are other fixes for a few days.

  • N97 Camera scratch and weak GPS issues

I visited Nokia Care Alexandria, Egypt to fix my N97 issues but they totally denied recieving any information about Camera scratch and GPS issues, and advised to send an email to Nokia main website
I have visited Nokia care after reading this article
    http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/10588_Getting_the_Service_Centre_low.php

    Hi,
In Spain its kind of the same thing. In the official Nokia Line they wont admit the problems. I found a couple of Nokia Care Centers (which are contractors to Nokia), who will openly admit the problem and the official internal service bulletin. They have ordered some replacements for me.
For the GPS I got the shield sticker replaced with no success. After 2 weeks of use the GPS has degraded again...
Good Luck! This phone is **bleep**.

  • N97 Photo GPS Issue

I've been taking a lot of photos recently using the N97 and have also installed Nokia Image Space. However, photos i've taken are miles out when reviewing the map on Flickr - literally miles out and bear no resemblace to the position the original photo was taken.
I also use both Nokia Maps and Google Maps - the GPS functions perfectly when using these two apps - I even used Nokia Maps to drive round Portugal.
Has anyone experienced similar issues when taking photos and found them to be out of position?
    Regards

Hi, have not had this issue, but add location on Nokia communities app is quite accurate, so maybe its the fault of the app adding the location to the photos !
    Good Luck

  • Lightroom 5 GPS issue with Nikon D3

I can not see the GPS coordinates in Lightroom 5. I am using a Nikon D3 with the GP-1 GPS unit.

Thanks, this solved my issue! Don't know why, it was the printer color profile who had been selected on my monitor profile!!!

  • Nokia 5800 XM failed firmware update/GPS issues

    Hello.
I'm currently having issues with my Nokia 5800. Firstly whenever attempting to update the firmware through the Nokia Ovi Suite, it fails with an "Error in the software update package configuration" error. I've read around on the forums, and I've noticed that other people have had a similar problem, but no real answer was given other than "I solved it, but I won't bother telling you how". There must be other ways to update the Nokia firmware than just relying on the Ovi Suite.
Also my GPS on the phone never manages to get a signal, no matter how much in the open I am. I'm assuming that this is probably due to the fact that I haven't updated the firmware, but if anyone else has any ideas why this is happening feel free to let me know!
    Cheers

Hi, I was having the same problem but I found that if you use the Nokia Software Updater rather than the Ovi Suite it installs fine!
    Hope this helps!

  • C7 Assisted GPS issue.

    Hi all
I have a nokia C7 which is giving me problems in the positioning department.     I only want to use intergrated GPS  so have set the phone accordingly by unchecking everyting but intergrated in the positioning methods window.   Simple!!
The problem is Assitsted GPS seems to turn itself on again and again. This is most annoying.  Its already caused some very huge date use biils.
Is this normal for Assisted GPS to turn itself on once set to off? How can I stop it turning on by itself and why does it do this. ???
I know getting a data plan would solve this issue, however I'm not in a possition to get one,
and i believe I shouldnt be foreced to do so .
    Can anyone help ?
    much appreciated.

    @jaycc
This behaviour is certainly not normal!
Try going to Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning > Positioning server > supl.nokia.com > longpress > Disable or Delete - see what happens now.

  • 4s gps issues

Hi - This is my first submittal so excuse how I describe the issue. About 3 weeks (around Dec 10, 2013) ago I started experiencing erratic / inconsistent GPS behavior with my Verizon iPhone 4s. I typically use the MotionX-GPS navigator app and while driving through eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvannia I first noticed my GPS kept losing lock/signal. It became progressively worse in the weeks since. I have most recently reset my network settings and used the Verizon *228 option 2 wireless optimization update. I also have tried the Verizon GPS app and the Waze GPS app and of the three the Waze app performs best but not without GPS problems either. I was wondering if anyone else has had or is experiencing similar issues. I live in Los Angeles but travel extensively and this seems to be a pretty recent occurrence since I never had this issue with my previous 4 or my 4s up until about 3 weeks ago.
Please let me know if you have had this problem and what yopu did to remedy it or if you are currently experiencing something similar
    Thanks
    Bud

Hello, I'm in the UK but have to say my GPS seems fine. I would actually say that its surprisingly accurate compared to other phones Iv had. That said, if there is a way to calibrate it (though I doubt this) it would be useful.
Are you perhaps in a very built up area? Something taller than you may be interfering with the signal perhaps?
6-7 blocks (if im right) is a HUGE way to be off perhaps you could contact apple or one of their 'genius' guys?

  • Screen and GPS issues on iPhone 5

We received a certified iPhone 5 back in March '14 and the touchscreen constantly "acts up" either becoming nonresponsive or phantom typing even after a new iOS upgrade and multiple soft and hard resets.  Also, the GPS, when activating maps or an app like Map My Run needs to be calibrated every single time the app is started.  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you fellow iPhoners and Verizon!!

        TMOON22,
I am so sorry to hear that your are having issues with your iPhone. By certified do you mean the device was purchased as a certified pre-owned device or was this a replacement device? Does the device have any physical or water damage? Was there an app or software update processed around the time these issues began?

  • White iphone 4 GPS issue

I just bought a white iphone 4, and I have noticed really inaccurate GPS locations - When I whip out my old iphone 3GS it tells me exactly where I am, and my friends with black iphone 4's do the same - anyone else experiencing this?  Anyone know how to solve this issue?

    Monkiedude24 wrote:
How would the color be an issue? It's white. White is white. Did they accidentally color it yellow or orange or something? That makes no sense. I've seen a few of them on some YouTube videos, and they looked fine to me. Personally, I'm guessing it is just a ploy to make all kinds of money when they finally release em for the holidays. Then all those people will be stuck waiting until iPhone 6! But whatever.
Wow, that's quite the conspiracy theory you have going there. Any U-tube video showing a white iPhone 4 is a fake.
