N8 - Low Video Recording Quality

Hi,
The recording quality seems low on my N8, even though it is set to HD. There are vague lines distorting the video. I have compared newly recorded videos with older ones and there is a clear difference.
However I haven't recorded a video for a few weeks so I'm not entirely sure if it's a faulty camera or if the newly updated Belle software is causing this.
Has anyone else experienced issues like this or has any solutions?

The images clicked by my n8 (updated with belle) are lower in quality.

  • Poor video recording quality with Presenter 9

    I'm trialling Presenter 9 and Captivate 7.
    I have a Compaq CQ61-320SA latop with a 2.2 Ghz dual core processor and 8 Gb RAM. It's 3 or 4 years old. The Display Adaptor entry in Device Manager says it has Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family (Microsoft) and the driver is up to date. (I should say that HP's product spec page for my laptop says that 'Video Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G which confuses me as Device manager is listing it as Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family?)
    When I record full screen in Presenter (it seems you are restricted to full screen recording in Presenter, unlike in Captivate), the resulting MP4 is rendered in high quality. The fonts in the video look nice and sharp. However, if I import the video into Powerpoint with the Adobe Presenter add in and then publish it to a folder on my PC with the 'lossless' setting and then click on the file 'index.html' the playback quality in my browser (Internet Explorer 11) is much lower. The fonts look 'blocky'.
    I don't think it can be PC specification because if I record full screen in Captivate 7 and import the MP4 file into a new project and publish it, the quality of the published slide is great. (Again, I click on  the 'index.html' file to play the published video).
    Does this mean that Presenter is not as good as Captivate in terms of its video recording quality? Are the encoding engines different?
    I love the webcam PIP functionality and simplicity of Presenter but the seemingly low video quality versus Captivate is an issue for me.
    Any ideas/thoughts would be appreciated.
    Peter

    After playing with Presenter more, I've come to the conclusion that the degradation in quality from the original MP4 video file (that Presenter generates with its video creator tool) to the reduced quality after importing the MP4 into PowerPoint and publishing the course to HTML is probably due to a scaling issue. I've read elsewhere on this forum and on the Camtasia forum that whenever you re-scale a video, you lose clarity. The fact is that Presenter only allows recording of the entitre screen. When you import a full screen recording into a PowerPoint slide, because the slide itself is of a size lower than full screen, the original full screen dimension in the video is scaled down.
    I'm thinking that the higher specification graphics card in the new laptop I talked about in the previous post produces a higher quality MP4 video in the first place so that the effect of the scaling down when imported into PowerPoint is more acceptable.
    Any comments?

  • (Nokia N9) Is the video recording really that bad?

    Hello guys, there's some time that I'm using the Nokia N9 and I just can't believe that the video recording quality is that bad, I came from a Nokia C6-01 and honestly, the C6-01 is much much better. The problem with the N9 is that when you move the camera the video become a mess full of artifacts, the auto-focus and the incredible audio recording become irrelevant when the videos don't make any justice for what you expect from HD videos. It's just sad that this only happens when you are moving the camera, if you stand still, the quality is incredible and the audio quality makes it perfect. I bet that the problem is from the low bitrate from the N9 videos. I'm hopeless but I wonder if there's a mod or anything that can be done to make the videos look better?

    The N9 does have an issue on video recording.
    When I was still using the Nokia N9, there are some frame lags and video quality is not at its best. Details are good on me but not as good as my Lumia 710 or the Nokia E7.
    And yet unfortunately, I can't help you on this one.
    If I have helped you in any way, give me a kudos!

  • 6220 Classic video recording = super **bleep**?

    I bought 6220 Classic about week ago but i've been having problem with video recording.During video recording, whole screen goes dark(or very dark) for 1-2secs then goes back to normal. This happens Very often even in very bright condition.
    Screen usually seem to go dark for a sec during recording when i move from brighter scene to darker scene.
    Anyway is this normal for 6220c? Anyone with 6220c have same problem?
    (also does this happen on other Nokia phone with VGA+ 30fps recording?)
    Thanks for any help.

    Ok i'm not sure why im not allow to say "c r a p" but anyway lets just say the video recording quality is very poor, when u change from bright to dark, or dark to bright, screen go very dark or very bright for about a sec, n then it runs normal again, is this known issue on nokia VGA recording, or is my phone faulty?
    If its known issue then i can live with it, but i obviously want it fixed if my phone is faulty.
    Thanks for any feedback.

  • Audio low on playback from video recording on iphone 5S

    I went to a concert last night and recorded a few performances on my phone using the video option on the camera.  When I played back the video, the sound was extremely low.  The volume was at the highest while recording.  Does anyone know how to fix this? Do I need to install another video recording app with better sound.  Help!

  • Video recording volume too low on BB Z10

    The volume on the video recording is too low , also tried to increase the volume from the enhancement option of the video  but it did not help much , the  voice recording done via reminder is loud and clear , but its only during the video recording the volume is too low , even if recorded in a small closed room,barely can hear my self or anyone else talking .
    is it a software issue , My handset is still under warranty , should i return it ?

     i think its a general issue with all BB Z10 ST 100-1 , hope we get a reply or some update from Blackberry team
    The Z10 is a great device with many new features but its strange that a basic built in video recording can not record the voice clearly , now for any event i have stopped using Z10 for the camera and videos  as the voice is not clear and we have no option to reduce the image and video size which makes it impossible to share the even an one minute video from the phone using bbm or whats app due the large size of the file.
    i am not comfortable carrying two devices one for phone and one for videos ,
    Hope these are all software related issues which would be sorted out in the next update

  • IPad 2 Video playback Quality Issue (Low Contrast and grayish black)

    Does anyone notice that the video playback quality is really bad on the iPad 2? If you try to play any video (youtube, apple trailer, your own converted video) on the iPad 2, any black images will turn grayish... Just put your iPhone, iPod touch, or even the older iPad next to it, then you will notice a BIG difference. The color is similar to what happened when you set the gamma incorrectly on a display.
    Also, you will notice this more if you change the orientation of the device, the contrast will be corrected for a fraction of a second.
    I've tried this on other iPad 2 and they all share the same problem. I tried to talk to the Apple Genius Bar and they refused to give me a proper answer on this, instead simply claiming that is just the way it is... I wanted to refund this but I've passed the 14 days rule and also I got it from a authorized retailer and so Apple just won't take it back.
    I believe it can be fixed by software... Any idea? or I shall throw it away T_T

    I'm on the phone with apple support right now. I work at a post production house, and we/our clients keep having this issue - everything looks great on screen and on the ipad 1, and theres a huge gamma shift on the ipad 2. they need to fix this ASAP. like Jls21 already said, a lot of us use ipads for work purposes - unacceptable!
    this thread ( https://discussions.apple.com/message/15100980#15100980 ) seems to blame the h.264 codec/compression settings…? does anyone know of another codec that prevents this gamma shift on the ipad 2?
    this is from the tech specs page:
    Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
    is there anything that jumps out to anyone regarding workarounds for this issue?
    we've used both Compressor and MPEG Streamclip - there's no quality difference between them, in case anyone is trying that.
    okay so, i was transferred to a senior technical rep and he looked it up - apparently apple is getting a bunch of complaints about this issue and they've submitted it to their developers. the more people that call and complain, the higher up on the priority list it goes to be fixed in a software update. there is no workaround known, and it's a standard issue across all ipad 2's.

  • Video Recording.

    Hi all,
    I am programming a part of recording video from the integrated camera.
    The following is the code:
    try {
    Player p = Manager.createPlayer("capture://video");
    p.realize();
    RecordControl rc = (RecordControl)p.getControl("RecordControl");
    ByteArrayOutputStream output = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    rc.setRecordStream(output);
    rc.startRecord();
    p.start();
    Thread.currentThread().sleep(5000);
    rc.commit();
    p.close();
    byte[]data=output.toByteArray(); //GET BYTE ARRAY.
    ============================
    try
    fc = (FileConnection) Connector.open("file:///E:/Video/"+"newVideo.mp4" ); fc.create();
    os = fc.openOutputStream();
    os.write(data);
    os.close();
    fc.close();
    catch (IOException e)
    =====================
    I have tried and I works on my hand phone (N95). However the problem is that:
    _ I dont know how to show video while recording
    _I just simply create a mp4 video from byte[] variable, not sure it is correct or not. And the video resolution is very low (about 120*120).*
    The video quality is very poor while recording video using Nokia program the quality is much better.
    SO any one can help me? THanks in advance.

    Btw, I continue..
    In this link: http://209.85.175.104/search?q=cache:bTylDUTfWBcJ:mobilezoo.biz/nokia_N95_specs+video+record+n95+j2me&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=8&gl=sg
    It says that N95 can encode video in 3 formats: mp4, 3gpp2,gpp. I wonder how? I just can record and output is byte[] data, after that I just create a mp4 file.
    I wonder how to encode in different format and what is benefit of doing so?

  • N70 CAMERA VIDEO RECORD TIME

    Hi
    has anybody explored the N70 settings , though the phone is stylish and sleak , i am not able to record video for more than 30 sec , i have 64 MB card fit it provided by nokia and its not helping either , could any one pls help me on this and let me know if i need to download any software or i need cope with it

    Hi Rajesh
    Open the slide to start the camera. Select Options; Video Mode.
    The icon in the bottom right corner of the viewfinder shows what quality level is selected for video capture. It will either be MP4 or 3GP.
    Select Options; Settings; Video Quality. The phone usually ships with High set as the default, which means MP4 format. Normal quality means 3GP, so you'll get much more recording time.
    Sharing quality is 3GP but is limited in length so that the recorded file is small enough to be sent by MMS - this is an operator requirement. The capture resolution is also lower than High quality, so it won't reproduce as crisply.
    Ultimately you have to select the right quality level to suit your needs. Do you want to play back on a pc, or do you want to be able to send the file as an MMS?
    On my N70 with 30MB free memory, I can get the following recording times:
    High - 8mins 50 secs
    Normal - 35mins 13 secs
    Sharing - 0mins 35 secs
    Hope this helps.

  • Iphone 3g with 3.0...No Video Recording????

    So I like so many other fanatical iphone users gleefully updated to the 3.0 software. I have tinkered around with it today. Among the things I noted as promised MMS is capable but Att is still slow in reality.
    Among the other things I noted not present in the new software is no video recording capability in the camera app. Yes yes,I know I must upgrade to the 3gs model but really I think its still premature. Iam sure the reason this feature is not present for the 3g model is because of the (advanced camera on the 3gs)!!! Right? I really dont care for the other added apps (compass...I rather like my 3rd party app), voice commands (no use).
    IS there any possibility a video record app may be made by 3rd party now?

    I read that jailbroken phones have an app that takes 15 still photos per second and stitches them together, which would run like a flip book style low quality video. From my understanding, the video recording as seen on the 3GS commercial is not capable of being reproduced with the 3G camera or 3.0 software. I held off on buying the 3G because it hadn't solved the few problems I had with the iPhone (no cut & paste, no MMS, & no Video), so I was very pleased to hear about 3GS and I ordered one right away. Can't wait for it to get here! If ever there was a time to get a new iPhone, I think now is that time.

  • N95 8G Video Recording stuttering

    Ive had my phone a couple of weeks now and on Video recording it stutters on high quality. Any ideas. Its ok on lower quality settings

    Thank you!!!
    Your advice to back up, format and re-copy the files to the memory card fixed the problem.
    It takes a long time to back up 8GB via USB (1.5 hours) so choose a time when you're not going to need your phone!
    Also, use it as an opportunity to upgrade the firmware using the Software Updater. I have put version 20 on my N95 and the camera seems much more responsive.

  • RE: Nokia 6500 Slide Video Recording

    Hi,
    I was wondering what the maximum length of video recording is on this phone ie is it as long as memory card lasts or is there a maximum time in mb or time that it can record.
    My wife has the 6500 slide but our toddler got his hands on the phone and Ibought a micro sd card to put in it but it does not stay in it, I was wondering if this is the design or if there should be plastic bits to hold the microsd card in place which may have got damaged. I thought maybe it was secured by the phone back but when i remove it carefully I see the microsd is nowhere near where it should be.
    I am looking to change my phone and would like  a nokia which can record in high or low quality like the 6500 slide, will save video when the battery is running low rather than just turn off and lose the video recording. I have another brand of phone and this happens sometimes when making a recording and it is lost. It seems with the 6500 slide this does not happen but it saves it instead. I would also like it to have good battery life if possible,
    Thanks in Advance,
    cmkm35

    hi there Candi86, i just answered your question about the memory cards not being recognised in your 6500 slide, so i'm guessing in the four hours between questions you went and bought a 6500 slide . so quick to decide!
    anyways, to answer your question here, yes 6500 slide does make/receive video calls, the camera is on the front near the earpiece. you will see two smallish holes, one of these is the VGA camera using for video calls and the other is an ambient light sensor. it would be awkward to use the main camera on the back as a video call camera! but no worries, as i've stated, the one on the front serves this purpose.
    enjoy your 6500 slide, its a good phone!

  • 10 minutes of the center part of a skype video recording are missing? Help!

    10 minutes of the center part of a skype video recording are missing? Help!

    I'd urge you not to be too hasty. Record more. Does the problem repeat? If you experience similar audio dropouts on other recordings, then it's time to worry. Whatever you experienced may have been a one-time event.
    There are many ways to capture audio besides QuickTime: Audacity (free) and Piezo ($) are two popular alternatives. Piezo 1.2.2 is the last version for Snow Leopard. You can get a free demo version here: https://rogueamoeba.com/legacy/. I don't know which one has lower system requirements--and, in fact, QT may be the most efficient of the lot. Experiment.
    4GB RAM should be sufficient, though more RAM never hurts. That iMac (Core i3, 3.2GHz, mid 2010) will accept as much as 16GB. Adding RAM is generally the easiest and most cost-effective way to boost performance of an older machine.
    490MB for 31 minutes of audio. It sounds as if you've set QuickTime X to record with "maximum" quality. Change to "high" and the file size will shrink to around 10% of that amount.  In fact, with simple voice recordings, maximum is usually overkill. However, I doubt that the maximum/high setting will have a dramatic effect on the resources needed to make the recording.
    As far as backups, that voice recorder could save your bacon one day. If these Skype sessions can't be repeated, any backup system will be better than none. Most voice recorders these days have a USB port and sometimes an application that will allow you to transfer the recording to your computer. Even old voice recorders with only a headphone jack can be connected to your Mac via audio in for a "better than nothing" file.

  • Video recorded in landscape only plays in portrait mode on HD tv

    I recently obtained iphone 5s. I've recorded several videos with the phone, in landscape mode. When I try to play the videos connected to my tv via HDMI A/V cable the videos will only play back in portrait mode (quality is distorted and horrible).
    Same goes for the videos recorded in landscape mode on my old 4s (which prior to IOS 7 would play back in proper mode).
    Phone is not locked in portrait mode.
    Video will play on phone in landscape mode...just won't play in landscape on the TV.
    Hope this makes sense. Thanks for any assistance!
    D.

    I had the same exact problem.  Some of my landscape videos would get squashed into a portrait size view on the TV.
    What I did as a workaround was to hold the phone in portrait mode, play the landscape video, and if it didn't fill the screen correctly, I would swipe the video as if I was going to another video/photo, but without lifting my thumb/finger, swipe it back so that it returns to the original position.
    What happens is that the video on the TV screen should resize into a smaller landscape image (with the circle play button in the middle of the image).  Then usually when I hit the play button again, it will play properly in landscape mode and, more or less, fill the screen properly.
    I find it odd that so few others have faced this issue.
