N8 - Ovi Maps & Routing Speech through Bluetooth

Is there any way to route the voice directions from Ovi Maps to bluetooth headphones?
I tried the other day, with music playing from my N8 through my bluetooth headphones the voice directions were still only coming out of the handset itself!
Not much use if I'm using the satnav whilst riding a bicycle! That was one really useful thing I found about my HTC Desire - it would send the directions via the bluetooth headphones if connected, even if music was playing! It would pause the music, say the directions, then start playing again! Sadly then the battery would die before I reached my destination

I've got the same problem... very very annoying ! Ovi maps is useless for my bluetooth crash helmet. How can it be so long to be fixe by Nokia ?
I have posted this before but here goes again:- There is a work-around, which is not exactly elegant but at least good enough to use for this safety- relevant feature.
Record a file with 2 mins of quiet/no sound/empty room etc. Save this to your music directory on the phone. Before using the ovi maps open the music player and set this to play the quiet.mp3 continously/repeat. THEN when connecting your blue-tooth device and using the maps you will get the sound directions. This works because idiotically the blue-tooth sound directions are only active when "music" is being played. Which normally is unusable/distracting. If the "music" is in fact at most a light backgroud "hiss..." then this is not so bad.
p.s. One can expect a bit more battery useage this way. Good idea to have a charging facility on your vehicle. In my case with a 125cc Scooter I have built this under the seat. The BT works fine from there so I can use the maps while the N8 is charging.
Stay safe!

  • E72 using Ovi Maps, no sound through BT Carkit Par...

Hi, I am using the latest FW (updated today) and when using Ovi Maps I hear no sound through the carkit. Is there a setting which I have to change?

I am guessing that latest firmware 52.005 for your E72 has a later version of OVI Maps pre-installed in device firmware than you were previously using. There has been a change in OVI Maps v3.04 in the way voice navigation is handled with HFP = Hands Free Profile being used for both voice and voice with streetnames, whereas earlier versions used A2DP = Advanced Audio Distribution Profile for text2speech (voice with street names) and HFP for standard voice navigation. If you were using English with street names it was probably using Music input on Parrot MKi900 which would explain why it is no longer working.

  • Google Maps, no sound through Bluetooth

On my old Iphone 4S prior to IOS 7, I used Google Maps and got turn by turn directions through my car's speakers using Bluetooth. This is no longer the case.
Moving forward, I upgraded my Iphone to the new Iphone 6, (not the plus), and am now running IOS 8.1.3 and Google Maps version 4.2.47430, (The latest as of this post.) I still have do not get turn by turn directions with Google Maps and Bluetooth. The phone works and always has for phone calls through the car speakers via Bluetooth so I know I am connected. Why hasn't this been addressed? I was of the opinion that everything in the Apple Store is tested and works with my phone properly.
Thank you for any assistance you may provide.

I am having this problem with a Samsung (Google) Nexus S.
Using Spotify Premium. Occasional dropouts of about 1 second each. This is on downloaded playlists so not related to streaming and Bluetooth stops at end of a track. After playing for a while Bluetooth audio stops at the end of a track. Once it has stopped once turning bluetooth off and on will restart but usually only for a few tracks.
No problem at all with stock music App, DoubleTwist, Tunein Radio Pro or BBC iPlayer Radio.
    Phone:  Samsung (Google) Nexus S.
OS:  Cyanogenmod 10.2.1-crespo (based on Android 4.3.1)
    Spotify:  Android version 0.7.6.344
Device:  Parrot Mki9100 handsfree car kit
Bluetooth Stack:  Default for both devices. I don't know the version number.

  • Ovi maps data update through Ovi Suite A bug?

Don't know if its a problem but the darn Ovi suite keeps prompting to update the maps data in my N97 mini even I have already done it twice. Seems like it just read and check my phone maps data and just erase everything and download all the data over again. Doesn't seems to be optimized. Should have program the updater check the data files size or date tag and just update those outdated files, instead of everything.  If I have a huge maps data in my phone it'll be a loooong wait.
    Anyone having the same problem?
I'm still getting prompt today to update my maps data. Doubt that nokia tech can update their maps data that fast.

  • Ovi maps - is that really the fastest route?

I am using the Ovi maps through my N8.
I recently travelled from Barrow to Newcastle and when I punched this into Ovi maps it said it would take over 3 hours.  It never takes that long and when I looked at the details of the route it was not taking me my normal way.
I ignored the Ovi maps directions and it eventually it re-routed and cut 30 minutes off the time.
This has happened several times.  After changing to fastest route and optimized route Ovi maps still takes me the oddest way to most destinations.
Has anyone else come across this?  If I cannot resolve it I may be going back to my Tomtom.
    Thanks
    Garry

    Hi,
I tried to reproduce your routing issue with the online maps from Ovi, Google and Bing are giving me the same route, which is this one:
    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&saddr=52.2434,0.580748+to:53.0088,-2.22857
Could you please explain where the optimal route passes by? you can also send directly to me.
    Thanks!

  • OVI Maps and bluetooth carkit at the same time

I tried to use OVI Maps on my Nokia 5800.
If my bluetooth carkit is connected, I don't have audible route descriptions. As soon as the carkit is disconnected, I can hear the driving instructions again.
Is it possible to use navigation using OVI Maps and a bluetooth carkit at the same time?
    Erik

    @ErikdePotter
    Welcome to the forum!
This was possible if you used Nokia CK-300 carkit (now discontinued) which had dedicated CarMenu application installed upon device:http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/nokia-ck-300/application-software as option to route "All audio events" via car speakers!

  • How can I record a route on OVI Maps?

I have done this before so I know it can be done. I just forgot how I did it. So here's what I did, I started driving from my house and told ovi maps to calculate my route when I reached my destination I said stop navigation(or something on those lines) and it created my route exactly the way I drove. I forgot how I did this exactly so can anyone please help me out here? Thank you.

    @DhruvSharma
Is this upon 5800XM using Ovi Maps v3.06 or have you changed device?

  • Routing data from web ovi map TO my mobile device

How can I transfer the route data from web ovi map to my cell phone (E66) an using it for navigation?

within your phone application you can synch.
Depends on your phone's map-version, where that is... check the menu-area "favourites"...

  • Route tracking with Ovi Maps without internet conn...

I have been trying to find an app, which would track my  route without connecting to the  internet. This is important in two cases: 1. when there is no service (in the mountains, for instance) 2. when it is prohibitively expensive (like abroad). It is great that I can download Ovi Maps for any location in the world, but I cannot really use it as every app that I know is trying to connect. I found one app, which came close, Parking 2. It does use Ove Maps and one would think that you can track back your car looking at the pre-loaded maps, but this is not the case. It still connects and then loads the maps (which are already pre-loaded on the phone!). And if there is no connection, there are no maps.
Does anyone know of a free or paid app, which can do exactly that: track your route based on the pre-loaded Ovi Maps without connecting to the net?
Thank you in advance for any info

@optiplex - I Understand where you are coming from. It sounds fairly simple. Unfortunately, the maps that ovi has for places like ladakh and other places in the Himalayas are fairly featureless. There are no contours on the map for where the terrain is mountainous. For instance, I have planned an expedition in the Tsomoriri - Peldo - Skarchyu sector. The Terrain ranges from 15000 ft to 22000 + ft. Straight line just aint gonna work. If the map were bit more detailed then I could actually set way points to the destination and then work one way point at a time. Unfortunately, while I am happy that the GPS on N8 works wonderfully well without GPRS/3G or any cellular network, the ovi maps are a let down, in that they are not very detailed. (not talking about cities and towns and not referring to drive navigation at all which according to me works beautifully.)

    1. OVI Maps and Sport Tracker does not need Internet connection if you did the setting correctly.
    2. Sport Tracker will record your trail. The trail can be shown on the Sport Tracker maps. The trail record can also be exported out as KML file and on the PC screen, display the trail on Google Earth.
Unfortunately, I don't think you can use the trail record to guide you back to your starting position while in the mountain.
So how about this method using OVI maps.
    1. Set your Walk navigation to "Straight Line" instead of "Street".
    2. Record your starting position as a Favorite on OVI Maps.
    3. Walk into the mountain.
    3. Use OVI Maps to navigate back to your starting position by selecting "Walk to". OVI maps will show how far and the built in compass will show you which direction is your starting position.
Not sure whether this is what you needed.

  • E6 - Ovi Maps Voice guidance over BT Car Music Sys...

OK everyone has been screaming out a lot on this issue, I had the same problem while using E71 before while using the Ovi Maps.  (Refer my earlier post)
    /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/No-Voice-Guidance-under-Bluetooth/m-p/665637#M21482
It seems Nokia have partly answered to this problem, but still there is big OPEN FAULT.
Got my Nokia E6 y'day and Tried the Map's Voice guidance while connected to my same Car System's BT (Blaupunk Hamburg MP68 - refer my earlier post ), here are the changes I noticed.
    1) While playing music through CD/USB, Nokia E6 gives out Voice guidance while navigating through its "own" LoudSpeaker.  THIS IS A GOOD CORRECTION to the previously noticed problem and the guidance is not lost.
    2) Now comes the issue.  While navigating, when there is a incoming or outgoing phone call, music stops and the phone voice conversation are routed to the BT music system properly (This is something the basic functionaly and it works as it as properly).   But the  Voice guidance is totally lost in this scenario!!!  THERE IS NO VOICE GUIDANCE EITHER ON THE PHONE'S OWN LOUDSPEAKER OR THE BT MUSIC SYSTEM.
Nokia, expecting u to fix this bug sooner...
    A Nokia Loyalist :-)

Looks like this fault will stay for ever...
Here's reply from Nokia Careline when complained this problem.
    ======
Thank you for contacting Nokia Careline.
We understand that Voice guidance of your Nokia E6 Ovi Maps gets lost when there is an incoming or outgoing phone call.
We value the importance of your feedback and we are here to assist you.
In response to your email, we would inform you that we can not comment on compatibility of Nokia E6-00 with non Nokia device (in this case, Blaupunkt Hamburg MP68). However, we have taken this as a valuable feedback and we have forwarded the same to the Consumer Feedback Division for their due consideration.

  • HELP- Ovi Maps - Not accurate?

Just acquired my X6 phone last week...with importance on choosing this model being the Sat Nav package. First thing I did was downloaded latest Ovi Maps etc and have been trying system out over last few days. (Using UK Maps in Central Scotland) However...I'm having lots of varying problems continuously including:- 1) Routes are often completely wrong...taking you in the wrong direction, miles away from the route that it should calculate. 2) Big lags in messaging and corresponding map data appearing on screen. e.g. You arrive at a roundabout... before you get any voice instruction at all. Then, you've passed through the roundabout and heading merrily on your way...yet the voice instructions are only beginning to tell you that you are approaching the roundabout... and which exit to take. I mean ....way too late. 3) General lags can be as much as 300 meters. e.g. Map is 300 meters behind your actual position. Then it catches up...only to fall back again. 4) Also seems to show up occasional side roads and junctions which don't even exist. 5) Suddenly...for no reason announces "recalculating route" and appears lost for a while before getting back to where it should be. 6) Other spurious, non sensicle voice commands - e.g. turn right - whilst traveling along a stretch of motorway! I've tested running alongside my old Sat Nav system and also a Tom Tom which work perfectly...but Ovi Maps on my X6 is so far out... it's totally usable. Do I have a problem with my phone...or is it the OVI Maps system faulty? Anyone else experienced this. Solutions? HELP PLEASE!

    Hi Comodo,
    Two examples:-
Trip 1 - from Postcode - G62 6RA to KA12 8RR: Completely wrong route calculated (which I followed out of curiosity) taking me in a very long indirect route. I could find no logic to it at all. Also got badly lost with ridiculous instructions at various sets of junctions and roundabouts when joining the M8 motorway near city centre Glasgow.  There were a great number of errors during this journey. (The interesting thing was that it calculated the same journey in the opposite direction correctly)
Route 2- from KA8 9AE to KA12 8RR  - various problems and errors including lags and delays in info and incorrect instructions or very late instructions particularly at roundabouts.
Thanks for your interest. What do you reckon?

  • Recover Ovi Maps favourites.

I tried to upgrade my 5800xm through NSU but it got bricked, so I took it to nokia serve center and they repaired it for me. The mobile is up and running perfectly now.
My problem is that I had saved some favorites in OVI MAPS on the mobile but forgot to synchronize it with the web service (also did not make any phone backup....sooooooo stupid of me), and now all my favorites are gone. I had copied all the files from the memory card to a folder though. If I am correct ovi map stores all its map data on the memory card and it should also store the favorites on the memory card. Does any one know where the favorites are stored and how I can get them back. Please I really need them backup...not all but just one.
    Thanx in advance.

    Thanks for the advice.
After digging more deeply in the applications I finally found the Landmark application and sent the data via e-mail to my computer.
    Data arrived correctly.
Transfer from *.lmx to other formats can easily be performed with GPSBabel (http://www.gpsbabel.org/)
The only thing that annoys me is the fact that such a transfer cannot be performed via the UBS cable (Bluetooth is no option since the receiving computer has no such device).

    Hi All,
I have read through the forums and I am still unable to to get rid of the annoying message every 20 seconds and loses the route " online connection required to enter shop?" / This occurs after I have set a route and acquired positioning.
    1. I have set positioning methods to " integrated GPS"
    2. I have disabled the poitioning server
    3. In the maps settings screen I have set "go online at startup " to NO
I am using Ovi maps loader maps_installer_3.04_10wk17_b07_s60_5.0.Nocs.sis.
I have downloaded the latest Nokia firmware for the phone.
Any ideas on how to get rid of the annoying message ??

the problem is with the voices with street names, if you use a "normal", the volume will be a higher.

  • Ovi Maps start but closes without explanation

Hi, I have been using Nokia Maps 3 (free edition) for a short while on my Nokia 5800 v40.0.005 and have been happy with the new route directions etc. Suddenly, they have stopped working. The menu loads, stays visibe but unresponsive for a short time then closes. There are no error messages. I tried uninstalling Maps on my phone and have just finished re-installing them but to no avail. Can't think of anything else I have changed but have I missed something? Thanks, Paul. BTW, the positioning software with GPS still works as does everything else on the phone that I can see.

All this hassle is possibly related to the fact that the Nokia Ovi Suite on my XP Home PC has become slighly unstable since that too was upgraded. This seems to crash once or twice when first trying to connect and sunc with my 5800, but after the 3rd or so restart it hangs in there and seems to do its thing ... although contact sysnce has stopped working and I just cancel it because it never finishes ... ??
    My sequence of events:
    1. Nokia Maps with voice guidance (free nokia offer some 6 months back when it was first announced, running and all working perfectly on v3 OS. A few UI issues but it worked quite well. v3 OS was quicker too.)
    2. Then I saw Ovi Maps and gave that a try, but didn't work on v3 OS.
    3. Then downloaded latest Ovi Nokia Suite, Software Updater and v4 OS - problems descirbed above started.
    4. Then download a "v5" OS patch (don't think this is an full OS ??, hoping it addressed known issues. It didn't and problems persist ...

  • Ovi Maps and Nokia Maps - do I need both?

I am sure this question has been asked already but I cannot find it having spent some time doing a search.
The question is do I need both or can I dispense with one? If so, with what consequences?
The position is that I tried to update Ovi maps but couldn't because there was insufficient space on drive C, so I thought I would delete it and then I would be able to install the new version. Unfortunately wrong again - still insufficient space on drive C. Hence my question - do I need both maps? Life would be easier just with Nokia maps in the circumstances.

Thanks. Can I take it that Nokia Maps is pre-installed? Would I be correct in concluding that I can delete Ovi Maps to save space and just update Nokia Maps from time to time?
If Nokia Maps is not updated from time to time I would need to install Ovi Maps to keep up-to-date?
I have I think deleted Ovi Maps but I still have Maps. In fact I am fairly certain I have all the maps I downloaded from OVi Maps. When I run Maps the screen refers to "Ovi Maps". Perhaps I haven't uninstalled Ovi Maps at all although the programme said that I had! Perhaps it is Ovi Maps that is pre-installed.
Sorry but I remain confused and hope I can through this tread clear it up once and for all.
