N8 - Ram memory

Ive got a problem with the Ram Memory on my Nokia N8.
When i switch the phone on i have 115mb free and 131 used, this is fine and the phone works quite quickly.
However over the next few days i lose about 20 to 25mb a day resulting in less than 50mb free after only a few days which makes the phone very slow and not responsive.
I use the phone for the same things every day, calls, texts, emails, playing videos / music, taking photos and a bit of internet surfing. After closing an app the free memory goes back up but obviously something is happening to use the memory and not give it back!!!!
Id like to know what is using this memory and is there anything i can do to stop it other than switching the phone off and back on every day??
I have no such problems with my 808 so im well confused as to what is happening!

Perhaps it is Anna. It is always recommended that one updates to the latest version of firmware, as it brings reliability, performance and functional improvements. Belle and Belle Refresh greatly increase the performance and stability of the phone and make it much prettier. I'm sure that if you update, the RAM problem will go away.
But the downside to firmware updates, as you have also stated,is that some of your old apps may not work, as compatibility is not guaranteed. In these cases, you will need to contact the app developer themselves to ascertain the status of the app and its compatibility.
In conclusion, the choice is up to you. I have Belle Refresh on my N8, and i'd take that any day over losing compatibility with some apps.

    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
    If you system model has two overlaying slots
       It should work with 8 GB    two 4GB cards

  • How to Copy a value of a String to the RAM memory?

    Hi there,
    I was wondering how to copy a String into the ram memory (consider you're doing right click on THIS word and choose 'Copy'; the String's Value will be to the ram memory for a later Paste).
    In my application, a user has a table and he right click on it and choose Copy. I get the value of the item (Obj) but face dificulties to add it to RAM.
    my code looks like this:
              if (obj!=null)  //inside I have the value (say: 12345 --< Obj.toString)
                   Action copyAction = TransferHandler.getCopyAction();
                   int id = ActionEvent.ACTION_PERFORMED;
                   String name =  (String) copyAction.getValue(Action.NAME);
                   long l = EventQueue.getMostRecentEventTime();
                   copyAction.actionPerformed(new ActionEvent(XXXXXXX, id, name, l ,0));
                            ///what comes in the XXXXXXX
              }I tried, instead of the XXXXXXX, to put Obj or Obj.toString but...nothing.
    Anyone?

    Thanks,
    should implement ClipboardOwner
    and do this:
                  StringSelection stringSelection = new StringSelection( obj.toString() );
                  Clipboard clipboard = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getSystemClipboard();
                  clipboard.setContents( stringSelection, this );
    @Override
         public void lostOwnership(Clipboard clipboard, Transferable contents)
              //do nothing!

    HI, I HAVE A MacBook Pro 2.3GHz dual-core Intel i5 AND I WAN'T TO UPGRADE THE HARD DRIVE UP TO 750GB AND ALSO THE RAM MEMORY TO 8GB. WHAT SPECIFIC MODEL OF HARD DRIVE AND RAM MEMORY SHOULD I BUY??? THANKS

    No need to type in all caps - we HEAR you!
    I would take a look at the internal drives offered by both Crucial (click the link "Internal Hard Drives Now Available") and OWC. I would stay away from Western Digital drives as they seem to have problems on a number of Mac models.
    You can also shop for RAM at Crucial and OWC - just select the System Scanner tab at the Crucial website to find out which memory is right for your machine.
    Good luck,

  • PDA RAM memory usage

    Hi all,
    We have created a PDA application running on <b>SAP Mobile Infrastructure 2.5 Service Pack 18 Patch 1</b> on <b>Windows Mobile 5 </b>and Windows Mobile 2003 SE.
    <b>Problem description:</b>
    The problem is the RAM memory size. For WM 2003 there is no problem because there are enough PDA's with 128 mb RAM size, but the problem is there is no normal PDA running on WM 5 with 128 mb RAM size. There are only devices with 64 mb RAM.
    So we are having some problems with the RAM size, and I want to watch what is in the RAM and I want to see the usage of the RAM easily when I use my application. I can switch to the Settings --> Memory and see the values, but this is not reliable and I only see the usage and not what's in the RAM.
    <b>Questions:</b>
    - Is there a tool to watch the memory and what's in the memory?
    - Can someone give me some information how we can store less in RAM and more in ROM without getting a slower application?
    Thanks in advance,
    Bart Elshout

    hi bart,
    had you tried profiling you application? profiling will help you in looking which
    portion of the code was consuming a lot of RAM and time.
    some common ways to counter heavy application
    1) lazy loading
    this is very effective in a sense that only the classes required for certain
    functionalities are loaded and instantiated. this can be realized by using reflection
    and customized class loaders.
    2) avoid caching smartsync data
    when using smartsync, i don't recommend caching of your syncbo data. the lower
    layer already have a cache (esp fileIO).
    3) avoid rewrapping if possible
    wrapping a syncbo or row into another class will make your class instance bigger.
    and caching the fields in it, again will also consume some RAM.
    that's only for the part of the data. now you have to consider your UI also. are you
    using any UI framework?
    regards
    jo

    The Memory Modules link on that page will give you the modules the board has been tested with. Others may work as well, but just haven't been tested.
    I didn't check to see if the Kingston are in the tests, but they do work with other boards using the ICH5 chipset.

  • SQL query returns few rows, but holds on with several Gbs of RAM memory used

    If I perform the following query:
    SELECT d.DocumentGUID, d.DocumentID
    FROM ImportDataBase.dbo.Document d
    LEFT OUTER JOIN ContentDataBase.dbo.Document d2 ON (d.DocumentGUID = d2.DocumentGUID)
    WHERE ( d2.DocumentGUID IS NULL ) -- new document in the ImportDB
    OR ( d2.DocumentGUID IS NOT NULL AND d.QueryContent <> d2.QueryContent ) -- modified document in the ImportDB
    It returns around 1000 rows and takes about 3 minutes to complete
    It also raises up the RAM memory used from 2GB to 9GBs.
    This memory used will remain used untill I restart the server. I have no need to make use of that memory, I already copied the returned rows of that query into a note pad for example. And any other reason of SQL has to  to keep that memory stored by
    that query, I  dont want it.
    Is there a way to release that memory I really dont need my SQL server to keep, without having to restart the SQL server?
    and without topping the max memory the sql server uses, since I need my SQL server to use as much as it needs in other tasks(I dont think it needs to hold on to the above query memory used)
    Thank You very much.

    Is there a way to release that memory I really dont need my SQL server to keep, without having to restart the SQL server?
    and without topping the max memory the sql server uses, since I need my SQL server to use as much
    A query can be resource intensive even if it returns a single row. Generally it is a good idea to set SQL Server MAX memory.
    BOL: "Optimizing Server Performance Using Memory Configuration Options
    The memory manager component of Microsoft SQL Server eliminates the need for manual management of the memory available to SQL Server. When SQL Server starts, it dynamically determines how much memory to allocate based on how much memory the operating system
    and other applications are currently using. As the load on the computer and SQL Server changes, so does the memory allocated. For more information, see Memory Architecture.
    The following server configuration options can be used to configure memory usage and affect server performance:
    •min server memory
    •max server memory
    •max worker threads
    •index create memory
    •min memory per query
    The min server memory server configuration option can be used to ensure that SQL Server does not release memory below the configured minimum server memory once that threshold is reached. This configuration option can be set to a specific value based on the
    size and activity of your SQL Server. If you choose to set this value, set it to some reasonable value to ensure that the operating system does not request too much memory from SQL Server, which can affect SQL Server performance.
    The max server memory server configuration option can be used to specify the maximum amount of memory SQL Server can allocate when it starts and while it runs. This configuration option can be set to a specific value if you know there are multiple applications
    running at the same time as SQL Server and you want to guarantee that these applications have sufficient memory to run. If these other applications, such as Web or e-mail servers, request memory only as needed, then do not set the max server memory server
    configuration option, because SQL Server releases memory to them as needed. However, applications often use whatever memory is available when they start and do not request more if needed. If an application that behaves in this manner runs on the same computer
    at the same time as SQL Server, set the max server memory server configuration option to a value that guarantees that the memory required by the application is not allocated by SQL Server."

  • Extending RAM Memory

    Hello,
    on behalf of extending RAM memory my iBook G4 (1,42Ghz 14,1" 512MB) manual provides using rather PC2100 DDR 266 then PC2400 DDR 333 modules.
    As I was told these RAM modules are quite old I bought a
    PC2700U DDR 333 and put it in. My question is whether I can do it this way.
    The iBook recognizes this module but I have the feeling that the notebook is getting warmer while operating..
    Thank you for your suggestions,
    Artjom

    It is only your imagination. The PC2700 is actually operating at PC2100 speeds. Therefore it is creating no greater heat than install PC2100 RAM.
    Furthermore, since OS X has more RAM to work with the hard drive is probably having to do less work and your iBook is operating a little cooler overall.

    i am buying a new macbook pro but i want to fit my own ram memory and solid state hard drive , will apple permit this without voiding the waranty.

    yes you can do it and not void the warranty.  Those are the only hardware changes that Apple permits.  Instructions on how to upgrade the ram and remove and replace the hard drive are even included in the owners manuals for MacBook Pros.

  • Is it possible to install a 8 GB of RAM memory to a late 2008 aluminium macbook?

    Is it possible to install a 8 GB of RAM memory to a late 2008 aluminium macbook?

    Apple's stated maximum is not always the maximum the hardware will support. If the 4GB modules were too expensive when this MacBook was manufactured, then there would be no point in offering 8GB as an option.
    I'm sure there are other explanations also, but all that really matters is that the maximum amount of memory your machine can handle is 8GB.

    2gb ram memory in 1gb slot, is it possible??
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Probably not.
    I once tried to put a 4 GB module in a slot where the specs stated max was 2 GB on a HP nc6400 notebook, and it wouldn't boot.
    I once was able to do that in a dc7600 desktop PC.  Specs called for 4 x 1 GB of memory.
    I installed 2 x 2 GB of memory and it worked just fine.  Just for fun I had a couple of 1 GB chips and the BIOS reported 6 GB, but windows 7 x64 only reported 4 GB, which was the max it could take.
    Let's put it this way, I would not go out and buy a 2 GB chip, and take a chance it will work.
    If you have one you can borrow, then give it a try. The worst thing that probably can happen is the notebook won't boot.
