N8 - Rattling noise when listening with headphones

Just got my N8 but unfortunately noticed a slight but annoying rattling noise when listening to music via earphones. It's most noticeable at the start and the end of songs as well as in quieter passages.
Anyone else noticed this? If this is a known issue and fixable via firmware update I won't bother but I'm afraid it's hardware related. Already tried different headphones and reset the device but that didn't help.
Is there anything else I can do that might fix the problem? Thanks!

hi,i'm Hafiz from Malaysia.i'm having EXACTLY the same prob with my new N8's earphone.it's so frustrating that the controller of my earphone unit,is not working at all! The moment i connect the earphone to my lovely N8, the only projected sound appears is full with distortion, incomplete like voice cancellation function is on, and not entertaining at all. I ENABLE THE LOUDNESS AND STEREO WIDENING FUNCTIONS, then it sounds better but the quality is far behind than my previous N70, N73 and N95. To make it even worse, all buttons are NOt functiining at all - volume, fast/rewind, stop etc. I even take off and reconnect the earphone thousand times but it fails to function as what its supposed to be. I went to the outlet where i bought this remarkable hp,unfortunately it was hopeless. The retailer even reformatted my phone's C drive, it failed to overcome my earphone issue. The retailer tried to use and replace with a new earphone set, again it was a failure. Other than that,my N8 functions as what have been promoted. I tried with other earphones and the result was just the same, POOR SOUND QUALITY! Please settle this SIMPLE prob a.s.a.p as it really makes feel uncomfortable and sad of getting 'incomplete' set of N8.

  • How can I make my projects in GarageBand sound the same when listening with speakers as it sounds when listening with headphones on?

Hi, I'm trying to export a song that I made in Garageband using mutliple tracks and a backing track. It sounds great in the headphones and all the levels are good. But, once I export and listen with my speakers, the levels are different, but sound good once I plug my headphones back in. I'm hoping to use the song in a video that will play through speakers, so I really hope someone can help. I'm new to Garageband, so I could use all the help. Thank you for your time!

What you describe has nothing to do with GarageBand.
Every speaker system or headphones have their own characteristics which can be measured and documented with a frequency response diagram. That describes that some speakers/headphones sound more boomy or less "bright" than others, instead of neutral.
There are a ton of other parameters that influence the sound:
Playing too loud (for the amp or speakers) can introduce distortion that alters the sound even before you recognize it as (nasty) distortion.
The same song sounds different when played back with different levels. This is a trick your ear is playing on you. It is documented in the Fletcher Munson curves.
The acoustic plays a major role. With headphones, you eliminate the acoustic environment compared to your speaker that reacts to your room and any room resonance.
The placement of your speakers. Putting them against the wall gives you a 3dB boost in the lower frequency range (depending on the room dimensions). Putting them in the corner adds another 3dB. Placing one speaker in a corner and the other one not is even worth.
    The list goes on ...
People spend their money on all kinds of plugins and often forget that the convertes like microphone (sound comes in) and speakers (sound comes out) are the most important components (besides your ears). Investing in good speakers is a good start. When buying headphones, make sure they are real headphones and not fashion accessories like Beats.
    Hope that helps

  • Does anyone when listening with headphones have problems when the headphones are unplugged?

I like to listen to music while I run. I currently have the iphone 4S. However, I had the same problem when I had the iphone 4. After I run, I would unplug my headphones and the phone would sense that I still had the headphones plugged in. I should be able to run with the phone and not have this problem. Has this happened to anyone else?

bmckaige, music is so relaxing while exercising. When connected to headphones, music, incoming calls and alerts will come through in the headphones. Once you remove the headphones from the input on your device, the music will toggle to speaker. For device support, click http://bit.ly/y5iuoj

  • Crackling noise when rotating the headphone in the jack?

Is this normal? With the headphones that come with the iPod, I don't get this.. but I bought a different pair.. and they make a crackling noise when i rotate the connector in the headphone jack. Is this normal? Would I experience this if I upgraded to another headphone? Would it be different with the iPod in-ear headphones?

The crackling noise should never happen. The headphones must be defective. Return them to the store, buy another pair, and try them at the store before purchasing.

  • HDMI/DVI video noise when running with 9400M

I have a late 2008 MBP. I connect it to my Sony 52W3000 using Apple's mini DisplayPort to DVI adaptor and a DVI to HDMI cable. When I use the Nvidia 9400M (Better Battery Life in Energy Saver system preference) I get lots of video noise in the form of little red pixels. When I switch to the 9600M (Higher Performance in Energy Saver) the image is beautiful and without noise.
Is this problem inherent with the 9400M? Is it Apple's DisplayPort -> DVI dongle? I would rather conserve battery AND have a decent video image. I'd also like to get a Mac Mini to as an HTPC but don't want the terrible noise I get from the MBP when using the 9400M. I somehow doubt it's an Nvidia problem.

I have a UniBody MacBook (before they were re-branded as PRO), with a GeForce 9400M. I get nasty white noise when using the Mini-DisplayPort to DVI cable, connecting to a Samsung 2333HD monitor via DVI (no HDMI involved here). I put a video on YouTube to document the issue. Quality is not great, but you can clearly see the white pixel noise on a black background. Looks like the sky at night. I'm wondering if this is a case for my AppleCare Protection...

As suggested try different media (Memorex is not very popular around here, Verbatim more for +R, Taiyo Yuden are recommened, -R usually) and test on a few players. Cheap players can drive you nuts. Good for testing but you will get some that start going bad quickly. Of course when you can get a DVD to run on bad players it is a good sign...but...

  • Iphone 4s makes a rattling noise when tapped near the camera

Started noticing a quiet but distinctive rattling noise near the camera on the back of the iphone 4s, is it normal or could something be loose?

Sorry if it's over 14 days apple does not refund the device, just sit tight and keep on asking for a device that doesn't rattle, be firm but polite about your position on the matter.

  • How do I plug a Microphone jack into a MacBook Pro with the ability to listen with Headphones

Question : My father recently bought me a new Headset. It's a great Headset with good quality(I GUESS) and a microphone which is what I need.(SORRY IF THIS OFFENDED YOU) Anyway, I was disappointed when I noticed there was a microphone input/wire, there wasn't any microphone jack for it on the computer/laptop. It would be a waste of money if I would have to switch inputs/outputs. Is there a possible way to use the headphones and the microphone simultaneously? Please help, I've been wanting a Headset with a microphone and I finally received one and this occured. Please help. I don't want to purchase any external thing for the microphone jack, if I do, Apple should re-design the MacBook Pro, sorry, though. I don't think the Apple earphones or Ear pods came along with this computer/laptop, so, why only one jack for the headphones? Anyway, sorry for any offensive feedback or sayings. Thank you, though.

Use a usb port and usb adapter. There is no mic in on Mackbook Pros. Return the headset for a uisb headset with mic.

  • Rattle noise when I shake

    Hey All
Just bought a 5th(? - the one with the bigger screen and video cam) gen refurb from the online store. When I shake it I can hear/feel something rattle inside.
    1) Is this normal?
    2) Is this the gamble with a refurb, It works ok, from what I can see. Im concerned its potentialy damaged inside and will get worse.
    Thanks

It shouldn't be. A refurbished unit should appear and act as new as an actual brand new unit. I would return it for a replacement while there is still time, if there is.

  • Speaker noise when open with Sibelius

Hi guys, wondering if you could shed any light on this problem
I am using a 2011 15" MBP with a Focusrite Saffire Pro audio interface (firewire) and I am using it to record into Logic Studio 9. The only problem is that when I have both Logic Studio and Sibelius running at the same time, my MBP's speakers start issuing a strange hissing/swirling noise.
Neither programs are doing anything, and the sound doesn't go away no matter what I do (other than close either of the programs).
Is anybody able to shed some light on what is causing this problem? Cheers

It's a poor implementation of power saving for the sound hardware. Even if you turn off playback of the feedback sound, the hardware still turns on every time you press the volume keys. The effect I was getting was that it would only turn on for a second, meaning it would click every time you hit the volume keys. This shouldn't happen when you are plugged into AC power, but I can't be sure that I haven't had it happen at least once when plugged into AC. Did you try opening sound preferences to see if it did it after you had adjusted the sound volume from there? This seems to fix mine for awhile so that it will not do this. I also don't seem to be having this issue nearly as often as I did before. I can't think of anything that I have changed, other than putting in more RAM memory which I wouldn't think would have any effect on this.

  • Is it normal for the Panels to make slight noises when applied with some pressure such as opening the and closing the Mac? It sounds like the screws are not tight enough or is it normal?

Hi, My Mac is around 2 months old, and I have recently come across a slight problem. I've experienced some slight noises happening such as when I open and close the macbook it makes some sort of clicking noises as if to say the panels are loose or have not been screwed properly... It only happens when pressure is applied e.g. when I am typing I tend to rest the palms of my hand on the two plain sections of the mac (next to the track pad) and this causes some sort of pressure to push down to the connecting panel underneath, this is when the clicking sound happens.
I don't know maybe I'm just expecting too much or it might just be what I think it is, anyway if anyone has experience this issue, feel free to share your point of views or past similar experience. Thanks.

Yes.. It's been a while, but I remember thinking the same thing!

  • Clicking noise when scrolling with 2 fingers on new MBP?

    Hi Everyone,
Just got a Penryn 2.6 MBP 17in, love the machine, it is pretty much perfect.
I have just noticed that sometimes on graphically intensive web pages if I scroll using two fingers there is a very slight clicking noise coming from under the G and H keys. It kind of also seems to come and go, it is not an always thing. Is this normal?
It also seems to do it more when on magsafe power rather than on battery... I am thinking this is just the graphics card making noise, but I was curious if others have experienced this?
    Thanks!

yeah for me its around the delete button though. How come nobody is answering these clicking questions?

  • Somehow my ipod will not allow me to listen with headphones

It looks as if my volume limit had been set and I cannot adjust it as I don't know my password ( I never set one!) Most grateful for help

What happens when you try to adjust the volume?  Have you checked Settings -> Volume Limit to see if one has been configured?
Does the clickwheel otherwise function as expected on the iPod?
