N8: signal drops 3-4 bars when i hold my phone fro...

I've been experiencing this strange problem for few weeks with my N8. When I'm receiving or making a call, network signal level drops from full to 2 bars. Happens only when i hold my phone from its lower end(where menu button is located). As long as i hold phone from its upper end(where audio jack is located), signal level is maintained to full bars. Such fluctuations don't occur when phone is lying still somewhERE. Signal starts dropping only when phone is held by its lower end. Happens while accessing 3G too. Is this a normal thing? I checked after changing SIM and switching to another network provider. Still the same. Local Nokia care shop couldn't provide any solution regarding the problem.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

I am having the problem when trying to take a panorama picture.
It may only take the first frame or doesn't even start at all when I press the shutter button.
even though when i  hold the phone straight up and down, so that camera is at the top on the back and the home button is on the bottom on the front.
    This problem is irritating me....?

    To take panorama
    - ensure that the panorama option is on
    - press the shutter button once
    - you will see a line with an arrow
    - move around in a circle  ( I keep the camera steady and turn myself around in a circle)
    - as you do this you will see the arrow moving across the screen as it captures pictures
    - at the end of the capture, you will be able to see your panorama picture
I hope that this helps, do report back.

Don't hold it like that. You're creating an 'echo chamber' due to the position of your hand/neck/face. It's not a technical issue. I hear this when I talk to my wife and she cradles the phone against her shoulder.

  • Wifi signal drops to two bars for no apparent reason

Possibly since the last Apple system upgrade, the Airport signal to my Airport Extreme just drops down to two or three bars often, sometimes off, for no apparent reason.
    My set up is
    imac Intel (n) ->
Airport Extreme Base Station (n) ->
    Printer (wifi) and modem (ethernet)
The connection was very bad when we bought the airport, eventually we had it replaced, it was then mostly OK, recently it's started acting up again.
I have tried turning off the computer and Base Station and modem and printer and restarting. Doesn't help. Right now it's just jumped up to 5 bars again. Neither computer nor base station ever move. The base station is one room away (about 9m). There is no change in the obstacles between the computer and the base station. The temperature of the airport card, according to istat pro, is 66°C - the weather is hot here.
To get the replacement from Apple last time, we had to spend about ten hours on the phone, repeating the problem over and over again, resetting the Airport countless times, creating new accounts, and even reinstalling the system (none of which helped).
So I was wondering if this is a known problem, or if anyone had any solutions to offer other than obvious resetting of the base station etc.
Many thanks for your help - this is a wonderful machine but an annoying problem.

Hi Brandon - thanks for the suggestion!
Funnily enough - ever since writing that message the Airport has been on 5 bars continuously ! I simply have no idea why - unless there was some kind of delayed action of a few hours after restarting everything…
Anyway, I had a look at Airport Utility out of interest - I am on 100% and 2MB. Should I be on 5.5 or 11 MB ?
Also a screen came up saying there was a firmware update available, and then a second one. So I updated - so far so good - maybe that was somehow blocking things ?

The keyboard on my iphone does not flip back to vertical when I hold my phone upright. How can I get that to do it again?

from the information you provided i can't tell if it is a hardware problem or a software problem. I do have an idea though, try to press your home button and lock button at the same time.

Everyone I talk to on my iPhone 6 complains that they cannot hear me very well when I hold my phone with my left hand.  As soon as I switch to the right hand everything sounds fine.  Is anyone else having this issue or knows what the solution is?  Thanks!

  • 3Gs Wifi cuts out when cell signal drops out

I recently received a new 3Gs from Applecare with firmware 3.1.3. My previous 3Gs was running 3.1.2. I have terrible cell signal in my basement. It usually bounces between 1 bar and no signal. Since receiving my new 3Gs, the wifi signal would drop and come back when the cell signal goes from 1 bar to no signal. It also does this when it goes from no signal to 1 bar. I never noticed this on my previous phone with 3.1.2 firmware. I only noticed this since it interrupts my pod cast streams. I also noticed that when the wifi signal cuts out, the iphone locks up momentarily (can't do anything on the touchscreen). Has anyone else noticed this? Hardware or firmware issue? BTW, restoring to a fresh setup doesn't seem to help.

In case someone ends up having the same problem, I suspected a faulty cell radio in my iPhone. The local Apple store swapped out the phone. They also suspected it having the same problem.
This is now my FOURTH iPhone 3GS. (#1 bad accelerometer, #2 scratched LCD & bad cell radio / GPS chip, #3 bad cell radio). I hope this one does better.
What's happened to the quality of these phones? My 1st gen iPhone had Zero problems. It was chipped and banged up quite a bit, but still worked like a champ.

  • Why does my signal drops and takes a long time to search and connect when I turn on or off my cellular data? And normal text messages are not getting delivered properly. It shows sent but later it will show try again, Is it just me?

I do not know what the problem is, but after the latest update it is really hard to send text messages. It is taking alot of time to send the messages, it is not the problem with the carrier because sending text messages with the same number in the same area is really easy on my normal nokia 1100. Please suggest me what I should check. Second problem I am facing is the carrier signal drops to nothing when I turn on the cellular data. It has to then search for the network and connect again the same happens when I turn the data off again. Please tell a solution. I do not think it is the problem with the hardware because the phone is hardly 2weeks old and everything was working properly with ios 6. It initaly had problem with the battery on updating to ios7 but that was rectified with the new update but again these are the new issues am facing.

This may sound stupid, but I'm gonna throw it out there anyway. Is it possible, that if I have enough junk on my desktop it might disrupt the signal? It seems odd, but it kind of looks like my signal is strong and relatively steady now that I've cleaned my desktop. I do tend to get very cluttered. I use a lot of reference images and save text clippings to use later... it just piles up very quickly.
So, I wonder if all that extra effort my system has to do keeping up with the junk might have something to do with the drop outs?

  • I have my settings to not fill in the URL bar when I type. Yet, when I type something, it's giving me a drop down of sites that match as I type. Why? And how do I get it to stop? It's really annoying.

Example: If I'm typing in www.mozilla.com, when I get to www.mo, it drops down a list of all the sites I've previously gone to that start with that.

Quote: ''I have my settings to not fill in the URL bar when I type''<br />
Do you have an extension to make that setting or did you change the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.urlbar.maxRichResults browser.urlbar.maxRichResults] on the about:config page to 0 or -1?
In the Firefox 3.0.x versions you are limited about what to do with the location bar.
    * Old Location Bar: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/7637
If you update to Firefox 3.5.x or 3.6.x then you have more options for the location bar behavior.<br />

  • Ipad 2 signal dropping after visit to genius bar??

How is that possible.  I was concerned about the bleeding that I never addressed and now my wifi signal drops.  I've tried to restore, turn off wifi, change to airplane mode and

Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Then restart your iPad>    Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
BTW, Airplane Mode disables Wi-Fi >  iOS: Understanding airplane mode
If nothing above helped try here >  Apple - Support - iPad - Wi-Fi

  • 3G drops to one bar accessing internet

    Hi all,
I posted this in another forum but thought I would post here to see if someone from Verizon might be monitoring and could help us.  We got our Fascinate in December and we have always seemed to have a buggy 3G connection.  A few things going on:  one, we have never seen full signal strength on our phone, ever.  I think the most we have seen is 3 bars.  But more importantly, we have a strange thing happening when trying to access any Internet applications (browser, Facebook, etc).  As soon as we click the icon, the bars drop down to either 1 or none.  I understand that sometimes the strength indicator isn't necessarily always accurate...but half the time our pages are loading slow or not loading at all.  It feels like for whatever reason the signal is indeed dropping as soon as we try to connect.  I have a blackberry through verizon for work and sit it right next to the Fascinate and show full strength where the Fascinate shows maybe a bar or two.  This happened before the 2.2 update and is still happening after the update.
Verizon had us reset the phone a couple of days ago and I have done the *228 a few times.  We still have the issue.  They are sending us a replacement phone.  I thought I had seen postings from others who had issues and were able to get tech support to do something around resetting their "data connection" (whatever that means).
Any ideas what might be causing the drop to one or no signal bars with internet access?  If I am paying $30 for this a month, I should be able to access it whenever I want at decent speeds.

Thank you for your inquiry. The signal strength is based on the area you are in and the phone itself. Normally, resetting the data connection won't increase signal. It will help if you are getting no data at all in an area you should. It is not a known issue for the Fascinate to get significantly lower signal or drop bars when going to the internet. In this case it does sound like this is an equipment issue. Are you seeing this issue with the replacement phone?

  • Why does my signal drop every time I try to use an application.

I've got a UFO style 802.11g, which I unfortunately kept up to date with the updates.
For well over a year now I've had my gear set up like this, airport in the den, my wife's older Imac in the den with it, the printer in the den as well and my Imac across the house. Now, everything in the den connects like cake. Always up, always a great signal.
My Imac across the house has always had it's ups and downs, we've got a stone fireplace and out kitchen in between. Basically, it's 3 rooms away. A whole bunch of walls and corners for the signal to bounce off of. So, I know, not an ideal set up. But it's worked ok for a good long time.
So, a few months ago I performed the recommended update. It said that it would increase connection quality. So I thought, hey, this might help me out! At first glance my connection seemed great! I never lost a bar, not while I was looking anyway. Then I started noticing that occasionally I switch a webpage or some such and it would tell me that I wasn't connected to the internet. What? I look up and I've got all the bars, so I try again and get through... then I notice the bars just flat out go dead. Now I can't connect again. Odd.
Ok, so I start paying attention and it just drops out at random... now, the signal used to fluctuate up and down fairly regularly before the update. I'd researched the problem and found out all the things that can interrupt my signal, and basically I've got em all in between my Airport and my Imac. I could live with that, because it would slow down, but it stayed connected for the most part. This was something new.
Ok, back to the problem at hand. Now I see the signal is either all bars or none. No 2 bars, no 3 bars. Here or gone. And while I'm paying attention, I notice that practically every time I click on something, from my mail app to a preview image the signal drops to nothing. Seemed a coincidence at first, but know I'm certain that it isn't.
So, random complete signal loss and complete signal loss when I use and app. Really not pleased.
Ok, so I figured maybe there's a fix on the way, but I've heard nothing of it. I installed the most recent update, absolutely no effect. Oh, and this one too was supposed to provide better connectivity. Where? I'm not seeing it! Everything in the den works just as well as it ever has. That's one of the things I've loved about Mac for more than 10 years. Easy to use and reliable. But this, this is just a big old pain.
I've tried to extend the network unsuccessfully with the Express. I've got another option to try with that, so my fingers are crossed. But I just don't get why my network is now worse than when I set it up when the only change that's been made have been the updates that I installed at Apple's insistence that my signal would actually be better.
Sorry for being so long winded, and for anyone who made it this far... is there anything that I can do? I really do prefer to have my office in the room that it's in, but it doesn't help me at all when I have to move my Imac to use it online.

• Iphone 5 signal dropping issue

    Hi guys,
I just got my Iphone5 as a gift from my friend month ago.
It was really exciting when I first got it. However I found sometimes when I unlock the screen, the signal will suddenly drop to 1 bar and then searching, this will take seconds and then appears no service. If lucky, the signal will come back soon. But it still really annoying! And this happens more often recently.
I tried reset network setting few times but it didn't help at all. So I thought maybe is due to carrier's issue. I am with Vodafone, so I bought a Telstra prepaid sim and try to see if this fixed the problem. But still, keep lossing signals!
    This is so frustrating!
And my battery is draining really fast as well, even I turned off wifi, bluetooth; minimum brightness; all background apps off. its still draining!!
Anybody got the same issue here? I tried google this but seems nobody got the similar problem
    Could anyone help me please?!
    Thanks!

    Thank you for your answer!
Did your phone just fixed itself?! How long did it takes?
I'm worried if it's actually no signal after we lock the screen? I mean once I left my phone in the bathroom and I forgot so I called up but it just directly into voicemail! I thought I lost my phone!!
And what if I need to make a emergency call??

  • Monitor Signal Drops During XP Boot

    Hello All!
This is my first post on this forum, so please forgive me if I make any mistakes. I have recently bought a MSI Motherboard, and all was well until I turned my pc on without the monitor plugged in - now, the monitor signal drops during the boot up (at the xp screen when the bar is moving across the screen).
    My system setup is this
    Athlon xp 2000+
    MSI K7n2G Board
    Using the on-board graphics
256mb DDR Kingston RAM 27000 (fully compatible with the board)
120 GB Western Digital hard disk
    Liteon cd writer 52x 24x 52x
    Pioneer 106 DVD writer
    I believe I am running BIOS 3.5
I tried booting up in safe mode and that boots up fine. I did a system restore to the day before I accidentally turned the machine on without the monitor plugged in, and that didn’t make any difference.
I am clueless as to why this doesn’t work, and am hoping someone here could tell me how to solve this problem.
Many thanks for any advice, and thanks for reading,
    Regards,
    Rupz112

I have come across a similar problem before. The problem was that the monitor couldnt support the default resolution of windows XP so I went in safe mode and lowered the resolution and the problem was solved.

  • Airport signal drops randomly

I use Airport Express to connect to wireless Internet. Recently I've had this problem where the signal just randomly drops every few hours - if not every hour. Airport Express is showing a green light.
When I re-start my computer then it still won't show the signal bar at the top. So I basically have to turn-off the computer and unplug the Airport Express to get it work.
I don't have this problem when I use wireless at other places.
    Any advice on this problem?

I think my problem is fixed. You see I was using my airport express as a booster to my linksys, which worked for over a year until recent OS X update.
    The Fix:
Instead of just setting up my express to join an "existing wireless network" , which was my original set up....I opted to use the option "Creat a wireless network" and I gave it another name, and under WDS tap I enabled it as a remote base station and under the "main airport ID" I selected my linksys router. Using the airport express this way, now I have two network names, the name of my main linksys router, and the name of my air express. Of course you get a better signal from one versus the other one depending how close you are. You also need to manually switch to the one with stronger signal, but at least both of them work through out the house, and my airport express has not dropped of for 3 days now. It works. Not sure why, but I am glad it works. If you are using your airport express a signal booster or as a remote base, and you are having your signal drops off, try to set it up this way, and see if it works for you.
I hope apple can shed some light to this issue, and I hope this works out for you
