N8 software mods

From another forum I saw that someone had made some mode to the N8 phone. I have not tried them, but several of the features looks very nice. Like being able to save pictures with less compression (= better quality), exclude folders for the Pictures and Videos apps, mute camera sound and landscape dialler.
Several features in the mod looks very nice, assuming they work as advertised. Did anyone here try them? Still no word from Nokia about updated software, still only version 011.012 available in Ovi.
All in all, the N8 works good, but it could be even better!

Unfortunately the rules of this forum prevent us from discussing firmware mods in general. Whilst some of them are safe to use and won't affect the warranty others are not and will affect the warranty.
If you want to discuss mods you are better off talking to people on unofficial forums like the one at www.dailymobile.se

  • Difference in AE file Imported into PPro with MPE in Hardware vs. Software Mode

I am getting an undesireable result when importing AE files into a PPro Sequence with MPE in hardware mode. The top (or left) pic is accurate, with MPE in Software mode (nice soft glow). In the bottom pic, MPE is in Hardware mode. Note the undesireable (and inaccurate) harder glow. These AE files are output in an uncompressed AVI with alpha channel. The pics below were imported into PPro with the AE file placed over a black clip in PPro (Video Layer 1=Black. Video Layer 2= AE text w/Alpha). Any thoughts, or better yet, solutions?!

Jim, so you're suggesting that I create my graphics in PPro instead of AE? That's not going to work! I must be one of the few people out there that output AE files with an alpha channel and import them into PPro, for I can't imagine Adobe not addressing this if many people were using AE & PPro together in this fashion. I guess I'm stuck having to continue to use MPE in software mode only (alpha channels work perfectly in this mode, but I have to do a lot of rendering.). I used to blame Matrox for this problem. Sure glad I haven't upgraded to a Titan!
BTW, I get the same undesireable results in MPE Hardware Mode when using Dynamic Linked Comps to AE.
One last question: does the quality of the video card make any difference with this alpha channel problem I'm having with MPE? I'd buy a Titan card right now if that would solve my problem!

  • What to do with users who get software mode in Stage3d?

I've got a Stage3d AIR game compiled as a desktop exe using ADT and distributed through Steam. About 3% of users are being thrown into super-slow Software Mode. Most of them have relatively new video cards and up to date drivers, and they can play other 3d games. Some use NVIDIA, some ATI, some AMD, different versions of windows etc. My game instantiates a series of contexts determine the optimum stage3d profile but all of them fail to connect to the gpu for these users, even baselineConstrained. I am not using requestContext3DMatchingProfiles because it throws errors.
I need advice on how to approach this issue. I started collecting dxdiags and filed a bug, but since the cards are so disparate and I suspect the issue is with their particular systems and not the hardware itself, I'm not sure that's going to be useful. Obviously I tell them to update their drivers and make sure they're using the right card on dual-card systems (eg Nvidia Optimus). But when that doesn't work, what next?
Is there a standard test for stage3d compatibility that I could point these users towards?

I feel that the solution you proposed with the private LAN would be sufficient as long as the DVD drive and USB ports were access controlled to where you could be confident that no one would place disks or drives into them that might be infected with viruses
    or malware.
Being that you are running scientific equipment with the PCs I can surely understand the cost of upgrades, and that it should be relatively easy to control what gets connected to the PCs.  But while this solution is in place, I would be researching
any way possible to accomplish the upgrade ultimately.

  • Flash 11.1 runs only in Software mode in all browsers

    Hi,
I have a problem that the Flash player runs only in Software mode in all browsers.
I have the following notebook: Dell Vostro 3350 with dual graphics (Intel HD Graphics integrated and AMD Radeon HD 6490M dedicated), the OS is Windows 7 64-bit.
The driver version that is in the device manager is the following: 8.840.7.3000 (I've made sure to have installed the latest driver from Dell)
The hardware acceleration radio button in the Flash settings is on, of course.
The funny thing is that in the Flash 11 Incubator program DirectX rendering was working properly, the problems have started since the RC version of Flash 11.
    Can you help me somehow?
    Many thanks,
    CapKosmaty

    Hey guys, I'm unburying this thread; I've waited a bit, hoping that an update would put my model from the blacklist, but there's no change;
Here's my dxdiag log: (could it be that Flash has problems with switchable graphics? I run different retail games, like Star Wars: The Old Republic recently, and they run perfectly on the Radeon HD 6490M)
    again, I'm grateful for help!

  • Stage3d will always fall back to software mode when using flash player 11.6 content debugger

I just update my flash player and air sdk to 3.6. My game is being developing using starling. And after update was complete, weired things happened. First,it would always fall back to software mode when debugging with content debugger. I just couldn't get to the gpu mode with content debugger! Second, when I run my game with IE 10 with flash player 11.6, some transparent black skins becomes transparent white skins!!!! That drives me crazy!  Surely there are lots of bugs with the release of flash player 11.6 for windows 8!

  • Software Mode is Faster than GPU acceleration, WHY?!

I just built my first computer with an i7 4790k and geforce gtx 770 gb graphics card.
For some reason software only mode keeps coming out ahead by about 20% faster in
    render and playback times.
Why would this happen!?  Someone please explain.

Thanks for the quick reply Kevin.
I read over the article and tried a new clip with some of the effects listed for CUDA acceleration and it played back seamlessly and
rendered 20x as fast with the graphics card.
Would your best advice just be to pay attention to which effects I'm using to determine which MPE mode to use?
Do you think that with new Premiere CC updates, the graphics card will play a bigger and bigger role in playback and rendering?
I guess I'm just feeling like maybe I should have invested more in my CPU and waited on the graphics card.
    What do you think?

  • HT201263 I tried doing the recovery software mode three times but i still is telling me that my phone is in recovery mode

I tried to do the restore through itunes, but it does not work. I go through the entire download and it tells me to recover it again.

    try a better computer.

  • Issue with Audio Playback and Uninterrupted Playback in MPE (Hardware Mode)

I'm currently using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 with the latest update (6.0.1).
I'm encountering a very serious problem where the audio from my video clips mute sudddenly when I'm editing and playing back. This happens when other music or audio in the audio lanes (tracks) below that particular 'video clip audio' plays just fine. It literally mutes without any parameter change. This only happens to some of the clips while some plays back normally. I have to reopen my project to fix this and after 30 or 40 minutes of editing it happens again.
And the Source monitor blacks out when it do edits while I'm playing back video. (It's really disappinting when the most anticipated feature in Premiere CS6 fails to work in my computer) I'm editing in the MPE Hardware Mode and if I switch back to MPE Software mode this problem goes away.
My Camera is a Canon XF300 and I'm using the 50 Mb/s MXF 422 format. I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with the camera because the clips work just fine in CS5.5
    My System Specs are;
    Intel Core i7-2600 3.4GHz
    16GB RAM
nVidia GeForce GTX 570 2GB (eVGA)
    Windows 7 Ultimate
Blackmagic Studio Card (Onboard but Disabled)
    Alesis Firewire Audio io26
    4x 1TB Segate Hard-Drives
    Help is really appreciated.
    Cheers Mates!

How do I do that? And just the project file would be enough?
And I found another person with the same "Audio" problem as mine but his workaround isn't working for me.

I guess you can get a better picture about the problem from that post.

  • Software update doesn't get updates

hi again all.. this intel mac is making me a full time support forum visiter. this time when i go to software update..... it just stays in the "checking for new software" mode......never finishes. why me?

    Hi Soto
    1. Quit the software updater and all other applications!
    2. If your logged into an other user account, log out and log back into your admin. account!
    3. Repair your disk permissions as described in the following link: http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/05/14/how-to-repair-disk-permissions-in-os-x/
    4. Then try running the software updater again!

  • FireWire vs USB at hibernate mode

Well I have the following task/issue. I have iMac and installed SamrtSleep 3rd party utility. It put my IMac in hibernate mode once system goes sleep. I have made for UPS setup so when power is off iMac will hibernate.
The problem is I have several external hard drives - FireWire and USB. Anytime I wakeup after hibernate the USB drives is unplugged and plugged again (software mode) and it breaks everything (if any) what was busy with this external drive and Not Properly Ejected warning appear. For example I have image file on external USB mounted before sleep. After wakeup it's unmounted like if I will just switch hard disk off while running.
However my FireWire works just fine the same way like internal hard drive. I have virtual machine  image file on FireWire disk. I open and run it. Than go to hibernate and wakeup. The system stays same place where it was before sleep. Noting was unmounted/unplugged. I was able to continue work on Mac OS as well as in same place in virtual machine.
First I was looking for help here and All Over The Google but all issues is around how to unmount all external drives before sleep. But I don't need to unmount them I need hibernate them together with all system.
Also when wakeup my virtual machine notice me where to plug many USB devices (it always ask when new one is connected). It means when Mac OS wakeup from hibernate it "break" all USB connections however nothing happens with FireWire.
My question so far if its possible to put USB in some mode when it will not "break" on wakeup? Or maybe any other solution to hibernate USB disks.

Ok nobody asnwer maybe it's not clear and too many text. I will ask more easy way.
Why Mac OS reconnecting all USB devices after deep sleep?

  • Have functional difference with GPU acceleration and software processing of Mercury Playback Engine?

Used Decklink SDI and Premiere CS6 to testing.
I have a question~Have functional difference with GPU acceleration and software processing of Mercury Playback Engine?
(Can GPU acceleration export same used 59.94i external monitor export?).
IN specification,Is it need“software processing”? whether other restrictions?
If Anyone know please tell me.
    thank you.

Thank you for your help, and sorry about didn't make it clear.
Use Decklink SDI and Premiere CS6 to test.
In GPU mode of Mercury Engine, the signal form SDI is 1080i, but  even fields will be missing.
    Take a simple test:
Make quick slide for reproduce animationin in quadrangle(1080i 29.97),  but it can't paly smooth and same gone to 30P.
If in Software mode, the action can be smooth.
Although use Software mode can be ok,but if GPU does not realize,it will take long time to render.
    system info:
    macpro 10.8.1
    premiere cs6.0.2
    blackmagic driver 9.6.4
    GTX285
    sequence of premiere
    Presets/blackmagic/8bit YUV/interlace/59.94i
Have any problems with my System or the  GPU mode can no  external monitor output in 59.94?
IN specification,Is it need“software processing”? whether other restrictions?
    thank you!

  • Flash player 11 is too slow in Stage3D mode

I have recently installed the release version of flash player 11, and have been disappointed with its Stage3D perfomance. Suppose player is running in no-gpu-acceleration (software) mode, and my old ATI Radeon X-1600 card is not supported by release version (though card is able to render OpenGL 2.0). I had mentioned compatibility and perfomance issues for incubator build in this topic http://forums.adobe.com/message/3519994#3519994 and seems almost nothing changed since than.
How to define if hardware acceleration is really enabled? (the checkbox in player settings menu is selected).
This website, shown at adobe max keynotes, completely freezes my computer http://www.nissan-stagejuk3d.com/
My computer is Intel Core 2 duo 2.16gHz iMac, with ATI Radeon X-1600 video card, running under  MacOs 10.6.8

The only issue I could see in the provided Away3d demo is low framerate. But it seems to be normal for a big ammount of polygones + dynamic lighting. Other samples from showcase section like http://www.miniclip.com/games/monster-trucks-360/en/ are working almost great. Screenshot from google chrome (OpenGL driver):

  • Dd audigy decoding or dts software decodi

Is better listen dvd in dolby digital mode with spdif on software(decoding by audigy nx usb)or in dts software mode(decoding by powerdvd or windvd)?

The in-built DD decoder on the Audigy is in fact a sofware decoder. It shouldn't make any difference. The newer Audigy 2 ZS and X-Fi cards have DTS decoding in SPDIF mode as well.
DTS decoding on PowerDVD is to be avoided as it sounds different to all other DTS decoders (WinDVD/nVidia Purevideo decoder/Creative A2ZS/X-Fi decoder).
As to whether DD or DTS decoding is better, it's a matter of preference. DTS has more pronounced high frequency bass ( sounding sharper/crisper ) but Dolby Digital has better very low frequency effects (booms and stuff). It's very rare for DD and DTS to sound the same. One of the reasons is that DTS is always in "full range" mode where the volume difference between the quietest and loudest sound is great. To hear dialogue you need to put the volume up, which makes the loud booms and stuff even louder. DD has dialogue normalisation which keeps the dialogue loud audible at all times, adjusting the volume of all other sounds. DD has three modes of operation Quiet environment(late night/maximum dynamic range compression), Normal ( moderate compression ), Theatre mode( full range/uncompressed). Dynamic range compression is a feature of DD which allows it to reduce the volume level between the quietest sound and the loudest. In Full range it's quite close to DTS with the volume turned up on DD. In Quiet mode though I've noticed that DD's surround channels are somewhat subdued.
However bass in general sounds different between the two codecs. The bass and the loudness. That's the main difference.
People, mostly with high end gear, claim they can't hear the difference between the two codecs. But for people with el cheapo speaker systems in general usage they sound quite different.
    My preference is for DTS.
