N8 still on PR1.1

I bought, original phone, over my telecom in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
And I am still on PR1.1. 013.016
Phone works fine and there is no problem.
But!
People is is still on PR1.1. Even Sudan has PR1.2.
And I speak same language as Croatia and Serbia and Balkan Countries.
What is the problem with update?
And we are awaiting Anna, but I am still on PR1.1
MODERATOR'S NOTE:
We have edited your post as it discusses an unofficially announced software. Please be advised that we do not encourage discussions of unofficially announced products or services in the discussion board to avoid misleading other users.

your device might be a network locked/branded. you can't do much as the network operator need to approve the new update before Nokia releases it for the devices sold in your country/region.
also updates vary by product code.
just wait and keep checking with Ovi Suite.

    Cheers jrrsteve
bluegnu, I totally agree that it's not an ideal situation but it's what we've got at the moment and others aren't much better.
I too am excited about this upcoming update and the year in general but too many people have a habit of turning excitement into bitterness when things don't happen exactly when they expect them to (or as they expect).
What a lot of people don't understand is that Nokia is still in the process of taking full control of symbian after the foundation ended in a mess. As the year goes on we should see more updates, more features, more quickly and possibly more news coming directly out of Nokia. Hopefully things will continue to change for the better as the year goes on.
Remain positive, take rumours with a pinch of salt and most of all enjoy your phone as it is treating any updates as bonuses. That's always worked for me

  • C7 Firmware Question

I have an C7 and my product code is 059d6t1, i don't get pr2.0 update from NSU or ovi suite.I still using pr1.1.Any Nokia developer willing to help me?

  • N8-00 that doesn't receive updates.

Received a N8-00 in very early November 2010. It's still running PR1.2, software version 014.002.
My question is, will we ever be updated...? If Yes, when...?
    Thank you for your attention.

    Thank you for your reply.
We received the device directly, we are designers/developers. We are in the US Northeast,
and this particular phone was never enabled with any carrier, mostly being used as a
test-host/camera phone. It's going to be enabled w/ T-Mobile ASAP. The product code is
<059C8T6>.  I definitely will wait for "Belle"; we like this phone immensely!
We have another N8, that one enabled v/ ATT. Unfortunately, not recharging/completely
dead, so recently, we have sent it to a care-point. Hopefully, it will be fixed.
Re: Porto Alegre... :-)  Right on...!
We are Porto-Alegrense (far from 'querencia', and beloved Inter, o Campeao de Tudo!).
BTW, are you also from Porto Alegre?
    Best Regards.

  • E-Mail Signature Grey and Single Line after PR1.2 ...

    Hi
After having updated my N900 to PR1.2, I now find that when I reply to, or create a new message in the standard e-mail client , my automatic signature is inserted in grey instead of black, and all linefeeds are left out so the whole thing appears in one line instead of four which is how I have it.
Sure, I can edit it and re-insert the linefeeds and make it all black, but this is clearly not the point. It worked fine prior to 1.2 and should continue to work fine after the upgrade.
One quirk of this 'bug' is that, once I've opened a new message (with the incorrect signature), if I change the originating e-mail address (I have more than one e-mail account) by tapping on my e-mail address at the top and selecing a different one, the signature 'repairs' itself and the linefeeds re-appear so the signature then looks fine except that it's still in grey.
Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have a fix?
    Thanks.

for some reason on the new pr 1.2 version, the signiture is requiring html to have the breaks.
if your signiture used to look like:
    Joe Blow
    ABC Corp.
    [email protected]
    888-555-1212
    Sent from my Nokia n900
then is now looks like this:
Joe BlowABC [email protected] Sent from my Nokia n900
to fix this, write it this way:
    Joe Blow<br>
    ABC Corp.<br>
    [email protected]<br>
    888-821-0937<br>
    <br>
    Sent from my Nokia n900.
it will still show up as a light grey/brown, but it will now be formated correctly.

  • All quiet on the N8 PR1.1 update front - Nokia fai...

Whilst the vast majority of N8s around the world have received this update there seem to be a large number which are "stuck in the system".
In a separate thread ( /t5/Software-Updates/Official-Nokia-N8-PR1-1-Software-Release-Schedule/td-p/923407) Nokia were providing a regularly updated spreadsheet of when the update would be available by phone variant. That's not been updated since the 24th February.
Whilst I can accept that the release date may not be in Nokia's control, I feel they've shot themselves in the foot by starting out with good comms then letting it drop. In the thread we were promised that the update would be available within 5 days of the dates in the spreadsheet but with those dates being nearly 3 weeks past many of us are still waiting with no (promised) forthcoming information - and no update.
Shame - Nokia seemed to be doing well.

NOKIA!!! This whole PR1.1 **bleep** is one of the main reasons why I am SERIOUSLY considering jumping ship. I WANT MY UPDATE NOW.
Nokia Care contact centre staff are only able to help you to know what is the latest version of software for your particular device's product code, they will not be able to tell you when an update will become available - update schedules for Nokia devices, like those for most other major phone manufacturers, are not currently published in advance.
If your device is a Vodafone variant (ie: it has the Vodafone-customised version of the software), then Nokia will only be able to offer the update to you when it receives the approval from Vodafone. Approval for operator-variant software updates is a process undertaken at commercial level between Nokia and the operator concerned, just as Nokia Care staff cannot provide you with advanced scheduling, I doubt that the customer support staff of your operator will have information regarding update schedules for any devices that they offer.
Software updates are phased in due to the wide range of regional, national and network variants. Nobody questions the frustration of customers whose device is not yet able to receive an update that is already available to others, but this is regrettably unavoidable - particularly in the case of operator-variant models.

  • E7 Symbian Anna music player vs N8 PR1.2 music pla...

Does anyone here happen to have both the E7 (with Symbian Anna), as well as an N8 9with PR1.2)?
If so, can you do a comparison of the Anna music player compared to the poor default player of the N8?
Are there any noticeable UI differences at all, or have Nokia plainly just neglected the music player entirely with the Anna update? Are we destined to continue using such a broken piece of music software until further updates? Have Nokia ignored all feedback relating to the N8's music player, and failed to rectify the problems which plague it currently?
I think many people will agree that the music player on older Nokia handsets is far superior than that of the N8, so I am wondering whether they have listened to complaints and fixed the problems which were reported (Ie, a major gripe was having the Artists and Albums combined)
Any heads-up of what to expect with our N8 Anna update would be very useful!

Well for starters, how are songs organised on the E7? Are artists and albums still grouped together, or have Nokia split them up as they should be?
One of the main problems of the N8 music player is that multiple artists who share an album name (Ie, "Greatest Hits") seem to get grouped together under just one album title. Is this still true on the E7?
Also, how are compilation albums displayed? This has also been an issue on the N8, mainly because artists and albums have been grouped together, rather than separately as per older Nokia devices such as the N91, N82, N95, and N96
Does Anna on the E7 feature a graphical equaliser? This was something else which was missing from the N8, but present on previous handsets.
Have Nokia added an alphabetical search field for the music player, as promised? With split-screen QWERTY text entry, there is now no reason why this should not have been added
Little things like these. How does the E7 Anna software compare to the N8 PR1.2 software? Or have Nokia just blatantly ignored the music player entirely?

    Hi Avenger_Osiris,
Even though there are two variants of the X3-02, the explanation here is that for firmware updates for Nokia phones are dependent on carriers / Nokia themselves. If you have a branded phone (e.g. Vodafone-branded with their wallpapers and images etc), then your network provider may or may not approve the firmware update given to them by Nokia. Firmware updates are also region-specific, so while you may have an unbranded handset, whether or not Nokia in your country release that update to you (with country-specific applications / requirements etc), is at their disgression. It sounds like if the latest update is stated on your region's Nokia website, then it has been released for your region. I would chase up with your network provider if they are releasing the update or not, if you indeed have a branded handset.
    Hope this helps.

  • BIGGER FONT IN PR1.1 UPDATE

I have been told that the PR1.1 update comes with a bigger font although is still non adjustable. It does help in the readibility department in view of my aging eyes. Can anybody with PR1.1 installed in their N9 confirm this? Thank you & looking to all your replies soon. Cheers mate!

    @diff
Pretty sure that I posted N9 v Lumia 800 font comparision recently but no noticeable difference upon N9 between PR1.0 & PR1.1 as far as I am concerned, although both these devices are woefully inadequate when it comes to accessibility and however much iPhone is slated upon this forum it at least addresses these issues as per screenshot:

  • N9 AFTER FIRMWARE PR1.1 UPDATE

Hi guys, would anyone of you out there want to share with me your experience after your N9 has been updated with PR1.1? (As of now PR1.1 is still not available in Malaysia) Like is it now a better phone than before? I'm still emotionally attached with this phone even though I have sold mine just before the PR1.1 was released. Guess I pulled the trigger prematurely. My biggest complain is the small default Font size & I have been told that with the PR1.1 update the Font size is somewhat bigger now. Blame it on my aging eyes - LOL! I'm seriously contemplating getting another N9. The hardware is just awesome & out of this world. Cheers mate & hope to hear from you guys soon.

I will have to second overlord above on this one. I have set uo two mail accounts which works just as it should.
I have noticed that the phone multitasks better and that my wifi signal and performance has improved - not much but enough.
For some reason I believe that the volume on ringtone has gotten a bit louder with PR.1.1 along with volume during call, but it might not be at all.
All in all very happy with the update and looking forward to the next one. Meantime I will enjoy this piece of perfection

After updating my N9 to PR1.3 the bluetooth stopped working. Trying to connect it to my laptop or other phone is unsuccessful, only get "Transfer failed" message. Anyone has this problem, too?

PR1.3 still transfers OK to my Mac, although always takes longer to go through than from Symbian device!

  • Will flashing to PR1.2 void my 2 year warranty wit...

I'm a vodafone customer with the Voda 205 firmware which means that I can't update to pr1.2 without flashing my device.  Just wanted to know if I do flash my device will my warranty still be valid?
    Thanks

The wiki instructions at http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware point the user to a nokiasite for getting the firmware
    http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php
That site prompts for IMEI number and then returns a list of "authorized" firmwares. (implied nokia approval)
Since all country varients are listed, and you can use nokia provided tools to do the flash, I personally think it would NOT void the warranty, it's clear here that this particular device is far more open than any other device has been. This is UNLIKE other nokia handsets.
Having said that I purchased a unlocked/generic N900 with UK fimware & it continues to use that fw today.

  • PR1.1 Released for Symbian^3

Guys, I just updated my C7 to firmware 013.016. And it is showing as PR1.1!!!
I didn't notice much changes except for Landscape Call Dialer (oh yes finally).
    Go *#0000# and update now!
And remember to charge your phone before updating, I got mine at 50% and dropped straight to 10% after installation...

    Hezzu wrote:
I have C7 and my phone does not show any sw updates available.
I'm really angry about this kind of announcements, where Nokia is saying that some new version is available and then when you go took it, you can not find it or it's not available.
This shows that Nokia has still poor sw launch policy. It can't make things working.
    What could be reason for this hassle? Here are my guesses;
    a) Some stupid incentive target
Most probably some internal incentive targets, which has pushed team to publish non-ready sw to out. Managers have just looking that they do get good incentive results (=money) without thinking what reactions non-ready sw is causing to end users.
    b) Sw development recently move to some low cost country?
New developers and testers do not know what to do due low competence.
Managers from Finland are not interested to follow-up results or demand better quality.
    c) Too many manager layers
Nokia has too many manager layers. Top managers do not have touch for real issues. They are just traveling from meeting to other meeting. All managers should demand better quality, successfully sw launches etc.
    most likely
    d)  you have a carrier supplied hansdset and your carrier hasn't approved the upgrade yet. that's what "operator-specific variants will follow soon" means
I would be prepared to bet large sums of real money [if i had any] it isn't any of the alternatives you offered.

  • PR1.3 messed whole phone up! SMS, MicroB etc.

Yesterday, I updated my N900 to PR1.3, using the Nokia Software Updater as I could not update it OTA (the phone didn't even show any updates in the Program Manager). It finished updating, I booted it & at first glance, everything seemed okay. So I checked out whether there was anything new to find. Opening an SMS, I find that it only shows me a black screen. I mean, I can still send and receive SMS though I cannot open them. It's just a plain black screen with the small textbox at the bottom. So I was going to check out what's up on Facebook. I opened the browser, connected to the WiFi Network and entered the URL. After pressing Enter... absolutely nothing happened. It just loads and loads and loads - I can't even access websites that I saved on my phone. It's like it cannot read HTML files, I'm not sure. Apart from that, I can't open MicroB's options window nor open a new window.
And last but not least; the battery now drains soooo quickly. After about 5 hours, the powerlevel runs from 100 to 0%.
I tried reinstalling the software but the problem persists. I don't know what to do now & I'd be more than happy if anyone could give me some advice.
    Thank you in advance,
    Patrick
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Never ever ever downgrade. Upgrading to newer software ofte3 upgrades the firmware in the other chips on your phone, e.g gps, radio etc. Downgrading then to a a previous software may introduce incompatibility errors since you will have3old software trying to interact with more recent firmware.
My guess is that you are only flashing the PR1.3 and not the emmc vanilla. which means the app or corrupt file causing issues is still there. Do a full reflash including the emmc vanilla to restore your phone to factory condition and I am almost convinced your issues will disappear.
