N8 Tries to connect to net all the time

I've tried everything. I have even deleted the access points in Destinations for all my Celullar data.
This is what I have done (step by step).
Issue - Trying to totally kill Cellular Data connection
Steps taken
1. Switch network to GSM only mode (EDGE will still be available apparently - Whay is that?)
2. Went to Connectivity settings and changed the data usage in Home Netwrok to "WLAN Only"
The double arrow is now gone (no data connection) but I am now getting this error message (as if it's trying to cycle through all the available operators access points settings such as internet, WAP, MMS and Streaming) and since I only allowed WLAN, can't find anything so getting this Connection Failed, Acess Denied box near the Signal bars
So I figured that some widgets or application is trying to access the net.
Steps taken
1. Removed ALL Widgets except the shortcuts and things that I know does not need the net.
Still not working, still getting the Connection error ...
Steps taken
1. Removed the GMail mailbox since there is no option for Manual retrieval for Gmail (what the heck is up with that?)
Still not working - Still getting the error.
Steps taken
1. Rebooted the device and saw that Whatsapp is running automatically from restart. Checked the settings. Yeap, it's setup to look for Cellular Signal. Changed that to Wifi.
Still getting the damn error!!! Maybe need to restart the N8
Now waiting if I am still getting the error .......
Any other apps that I should look into? I've only downloaded like 15 apps since I bought this.
I get a strange feeling that with all this issues I have, I now see the wisdom in Apple Review Process for their App Store. All sort of cow dung is in the Ovi Store and it's causing all sort of grief to the end user.
The pendulum is swinging so far to my iPhone it's not even funny.
EDIT: Just as I post this message, I get the error message again .... seriously Nokia? Come ON!!!! Give me a toggle button to kill Cellular Data and make sure that once that is off, I don't get all sorts of error message.

WhatsApp tries to connect to the internet constantly, no matter what you do.
I had it installed and it was doing the same thing, it didn't stop until i uninstalled it. There are other Apps that do this too, but I don't know what they are.
It's not the phones fault that you downloaded an App that requires the internet, and its not Nokia's fault the App requires the internet.

My n86 8MP are trying to connect to a network ALL the time. Even when i have turned of to NEVER at Tools, Connection Wireless LAN,  and Internet connection test.
There is no program open i background either.
    What can that be?
Could it be my Email program Check interval? Even if the email program are totally closed?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you have set the email to check at certain intervals, it will check during those intervals. You cant totally close email app. Once you have configured it, its like a text message, it will work continuously. The only way to stop it is to set the email check to manual.

  • N8 re-connect to wlan all the time.

I have search the forum and it seems that many people have the same problem. However I have not yet found a solution to the problem.
Widgets are set to offline. Datapacket is "only when needed".
    Switch to wlan is "manual"
Data use in home country is  "Always ask" . It connects without asking anyway!
Email is set up to sync every 30 min. This is not the issue.
I have social 1.2 installed but widgets are set to offline so it doesn't update.
The phone is ALLWAYS connected to wlan. If I tried to disconnect, it reconnects immediately. I can make it work by setting the phone to offline -> remove the access point (home network) -> put it back to online.
If I try to connect to home network via wlan guide now, it says "connection not available". However, if I restart the phone here then I can connect via wlan guide.
This will make the connection work properly. Email will connect when syncing and then disconnect again like it should.
If I restart the phone once more (now the home wlan connection is set up) then I will be back on square one. WLAN connected all the time I refuses to disconnect.
I would like to call this a proper BUG. This has nothing to do with setup.
Does anybody have a solution for this or do I have to wait until Nokia FIXES this?
    I'm running PR1.2
    regards
    /Jens

I do have the wlan set to a higher priority than packet data. This is the way it should be I believe. I want it to connect via wlan first then packet data if no wlan is available.
I just tried to kill the "xmppservice.exe" process and this solves the problem. However this requires that I buy a 3rd party task manager. So this isn't really a solution. Also this needs to be done each time the phone reboots.
I also noticed that it is not just connected all the time but it is continuously sending data at slow rate.
The question here is really what does the xmppservice do I why does it work when shut down?
    /Jens

  • Once airport is setup, does it need to be connected via ethernet all the time?

Once airport is setup, does it need to be connected to the router with an ethernet cable all the time?

AirPort Setup....the configuration utility in Mountain Lion...will look at the connection and configure the Express accordingly.
If you have an Ethernet cable connected during the setup, then you will need to leave the Ethernet cable connected after the setup.
If you want the Express to connect using wireless only....then you must configure it using wireless only.

  • Nokia 97 wants to connect to intenet all the time

    Hello all
I have a problem with my N97 that is eating my nerves.
All the time in a inteval of cca. 5-10 minutes a popup appears on the screen where the phone asks me to which network I want to connect. If I click any connection the connection logo appears in the upper right corner and goes away at the moment.. in 10 minutes the same problem and so on and on and on :/... It's very disturbing because it appears really often and everywhere - if I write sms, call someone,...
Did anybody have the same problem and has anybody an idea how this could be solved.
    Thank you for you answers!
    Kind Regards, Bojan

Ovi Contacts is now built-in to the main Contacts app.  To function properly, it needs an active internet connection so it may be this causing your problem too.

  • My phone will not connect to WIFI all the time, but if I cut it off and go thru Verizon network the it's fine. Everyone else in my house does not have this problem even tho they have same phone as me. I have restarted, reset, rebooted and done everything

My 4S will get on internet but will not connect to any site including the App store or I tunes. If I cut Wifi off and go thru Verizon network then it is just fine. It is very slow loading tho. Everyone else in my house connects just fine.

    Jglee,
I can understand how connecting to Wi-Fi is very important to maintain better control of your GB. I appreciate all the troubleshooting you have already tried to get this issue corrected.  Does your 4s have the most current software?  You can check this in setttings: Settings>General>Software Update.  Keep us posted.  We are here to help.

  • IPad Retina Problem: Wireless Internet Connection Stops Working All The Time

the wireless would all the sudden stop working.  What happen is, I'd be going from one page to another and then BOOM.  No more loading, the little circular "loading" icon never ending.
Also happens with iTunes trailers app, in general all the wifi.
    What i've already tried:
Performing a full ipad restoration (as new restoration). I dont have issues with my ipod touch 5 or my galaxy sIII or my pc's, so i assume the ipad retina is faulty?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Airport Express and iMac connection cuts out all the time

I have an Airport Express set to 802.11n with b and g compatibility. It is connected to a DSL modem with a static IP address via an Ethernet cable. I use a MacBook Air in the same room as the AE. In another room, I have a 24" iMac (Intel). The iMac is always connected to the AE network as is the MBA. Everytime I make a connection to the iMac (via Screen Sharing or other), the connection cuts out after awhile. There is no interference with the iMac connection, the AE is using a channel no one else around me is using, it just suddenly stops receiving any packets from the AE. I have to open Safari, wait for a website not to load, click on the Network Diagnostic button, go through the reconnection process to the AE network and then it comes back and tells me all is OK. The energy saver is set so the computer never falls to sleep and it is not related to the screen saver coming on.
It just stops sending data to the iMac. All firmware and software are up to date. I have the same problem when using Back to My Mac outside the home. Sometimes I can connect and sometimes I can't.
    Can anyone help?

Hi, Thanks for the suggestions. Here are the answers to your questions:
Channel selection is on Automatic. I have tried switching channels on both my DSL router (and it doesn't go to the channel I select!) and on the AE. Performance is the same.
iMac still drops connection even if MBA is not logged onto the network.
Screen Sharing's performance is poor, even if iMac is receiving other internet data (Safari or iTunes downloads)
MBA always has a good connection
Each machine is using 10.5.5. This problem exists only in the last couple of months when my DSL provider (all Linux) changed some of their configurations.
I will try to do the terminal exercise today. So far this am and last night, no dropped connections. Go figure!

  • TS3682 my iPad does not appear in the iTune device and it shows the "connect to iTunes" all the time.

during the update of my iPad some error report came and after that it is not working. i have tried pressing the off key and home key at the same time. i also reinstalled the iTunes bt it is not showing any results.
please let me know what to do?

If you are seeing the "connect to iTunes" message - You probably need to restore your iPad using Recovery Mode. Here are the instructions.

  • N9 thinks it's connected to PC all the time

A small but annoying bug again :-/ I can't make backup because my N9 think's it's connected to computer. When I select "settings -> synchronize & backup -> backup" my device reports: "Can't make backup while connected to PC" (or something like that). This hapends also when N9 is NOT connected. Connecting & disconnecting USB cable, rebooting and deleting old backups didn't help... Any clues how to fix this problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    @andresno
did you try to reset the device?
    settings/Reset/Restore settings
this will not delete any data on your MyDocs folder, but it will reset all your settings to factory. depending on where your applications were installed to, you may need to reinstall some or all of your applications.
most of the applications store thier data on the /home/user/ folder, which will also not be deleted, so after you reinstall them, if necessary, you should still have the same data on the applications.
in my case, it remembered my safe data, and my game data.
if that doesnt work, you may need to try and reflash your device.

  • HT4623 I tried watching YouTube videos stopping all the time and starting up even bought abode flash app just bought this iPad used is it junk

I cant get videos to just play without stooping and starting on YouTube.Should I update ISO?

I have noted in several posts as have a few of the others here,, Bob Timmons being one who has tested it, that the new one was no better than the old ones. I bought a new AEBS 5th Gen to test against all my old TC's up to Gen 3.. IMHO they are all about the same.. and my old Thomson G wireless router beats them handsomely at the other end of the house. ie the range is to be frank, pathetic. I don't have a Mac laptop to test with.. so just concluded it needs the exact match to get results like anandtech article..
    I would do the following.
    1. Download and use 5.6 utility.. you are lucky you are still on Lion as ML no longer can use v5 utility.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
    2. Set wireless names to short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric. Set a different name to 5ghz. Its range is always short.. so don't expect too much. Make sure the output is set to 100%.. and the region is correct.
    3. Lock the wireless channel for 2.4ghz.. test the available channels.. in Nepal I have no idea what is allowed.. but 1, 6, 11 are the main non-overlapping channels for most of the world. Power output maybe different though and the TP-Link might be set to higher output country.. apple do not allow that. Check what country the tp-link is set to.
    4. The location of the TC must be as good as possible.. The antennas are around the 3 sides but the most important is in front.. try to place the TC so the laptop is facing the front of the TC, with nothing in between.
I am pretty sure you are never going to get the output any higher than it is now.. I still use the old wireless G Thomson signal in the other end of the house. And even running 3 TC at once (when I am repairing power supplies.. makes no difference.. they are all invisible).
Either return the TC as unsuitable.. or simply use it as a backup.
The TP-Link can be used in wan bypass to provide wireless.. just turn off the TC wireless.

  • After loading Lion on my laptop, iTunes is trying to start automatically all the time.  Problem does not occur on desktop with Lion.

I recently loaded Lion on both my laptop and desktop.  On the laptop only, iTunes is now trying to load automatically literallly all the time!  What can I do to stop the madness???

The only way to reinstall Safari on a Mac running v10.7 Lion is to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Instead of restoring OS X in order to reinstall Safari, try troubleshooting extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not an extension or plug-in issue, delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • Should the TC be left on all the time?

Ok - this may be a daft question - but should the TC be left on all the time or is it ok to switch it off at the mains each time I shut down my iMac?

I've tried leaving my TC on all the time but it seems to be constantly active (the green light flickers) even when there are no computers attached to it. I happened to come downstairs this morning at around 3am and the TC was still humnming away to itself seemingly unaware that nothing was connected to it! I unplugged it. In addition to getting rid of the annoying noise it will save some electricity!!
