N80 as a modem for Dial-up Internet access?

How do I use the N80 as a modem to dial a certain phone number for internet access? Which cable do I need for this to happen, and also how to set it up? Thanks in advance.

Can I use a Nokia N80 as a modem for my G4 PowerBook?

I'm about to spend a month in Italy and will take my G4 PowerBook with me. I need to buy a new mobile phone and thought that if I buy the Nokia N80 Internet Edition I can also use it as a modem for my PowerBook and connect using UMTS or EDGE. I already have a prepaid SIM card with TIM (Italian mobile service provider).
Has anyone successfully used the N80 with their G4 PowerBook?

Load Balancing 11i for both Intranet & Internet Access

Our current environment for 11i (11.5.5) is accessed only internally (via Intranet). We need to allow outside access (via Internet) also for self-service apps (ie. HR). Oracle Support/Metalink has stated that Load Balancing (note 148155.1) is the only supported method to have multiple (Apps Servers) systems access a single database. Could I get feedback from anyone who has implemented Load Balancing for 11i? Additionally if someone has implemented this for both intranet and internet access how has your company setup? Do the secondary server(s) from the Load Balancing note reside in the DMZ? And thus the primary app server and database reside inside the firewall? Thanks....

We are using 6 middle tiers for internal access for intranet access and 2 middle tiers in External DMZ with only web server running for Extrenal Access over Internet for Self Service.
You Implement one Load Balancer for first 6 internal Middle Tiers with site level profiles pointing to Internal .
You implement second Load balancer for external 2 middle tiers with server level profile options for these two servers pointing to External Load balancer .

SCEP updates for servers without internet access

I have servers that are Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2008 R2 that CANNOT have internet access. I pushed the CM client to them and the SCEP client but they cannot get the SCEP updates. The error in the WindowsUpdate.log is:

I think the Windows Update Agent is trying to update from MS.
When I run RSOP.msc, I do see that the CM server is listed as the WSUS server and was updated in local group policy which is what the CM client is expected to do.
What do I do in a situation where the machine does not have internet access and I need to update the WU agent?

Make sure that Disable alternative sources is set to
Yes in the ConfigMgr client settings and make sure that in the antimalware policy
Set sources and order for Endpoint Protection definition does not included Microsoft Update.

Connection to the server failed for email, but internet access is fine.

My iPad 2 worked fine yesterday and today I cannot get mail. The message says connection to the server failed or all of my email accounts. Internet access is fine.

Try again with the e mail. The message means you messed up the settings. Google you ISP and e mail settings. They will tell you the server name for incoming and outgoing. They will be different. Pay attention to port number and be careful to make sure you enter the password right. Since the rest of the internet works, your problem is just with the security on your ISP.

Send quiz results for users without Internet access

We have a group of developers in India who do not have internet access. I have created an eLearning course in C4 with a quiz at the end. For most users, they take the course through our LMS and we can report results without a problem. However, we have a group of developers in India who do not have internet access. Is there a way to capture name and quiz results and send them via email? Alternatively, we can open up a port to access Connect, but I still need to report name and quiz results.

Are those users connected in a network? If yes, with the version of Captivate 5 (will be available shortly) it will be possible to have the results send and stored on a server.

Flash player for systems without internet access

I am trying to install the newest version of Flash on a few computers without internet access, but I'm having a hard time making that happen. What do I need to do to get the latest version of Flash on them without connecting them to the internet (they are in an area where internet access is forbidden).

Create a CD/DVD for use without internet access

I am very satisfied with the website I created using iWeb on Mobile Me. I would like to create a CD or DVD where I can add an autorun function to enable those without convenient internet access to see the information. Can anyone point me to a source where I can learn how to do this and what additional software I would need?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do the following;
1 - publish your site to a folder on your hard drive. You change the destination by clicking on the site folder and selecting the folder you want to publish to (lower left hand image):

2 - put a CD into your optical drive.
3 - drag the contents of that folder, an index.html file and a folder with your site's name, onto the empty disk icon on the desktop.
4 - drag the disk icon to the Trash icon in the Dock which turns into a Burn icon and burns the disk.
The disk will let other Macs double click on the index.html file to open your site in the web browser of choice.
However, PCs may not be able to do the same. Mac's OS X system has the necessary features built in but I'm not sure about Windows. You'll have to inquire about PCs.

Disable load balancing on dual PRIs - 3640 with MICA modems for dial out

We have a custom application that connects through reverse telnet to a Cisco 3640 that has 2 NM-24DM modules and 2 PRIs connected to it. Currently all outgoing calls are getting load balanced over the two PRIs. I need to change that so that all calls go over the first PRI and when all channels are used up, it starts using the second PRI. Seems like a simple enough thing to do but I can't figure out how to.

If I understand the question I think that isdn bchan-number-order is the command you are interested in. I think it detaults to round-robin, sounds like you want ascending (that is isdn bchan-number-order ascending). It is an interface subcommand.

That may only apply to native ISDN calls and not MICA based calls, but see if that helps.

Dial up usb modem for mavericks?

Mavericks clearly indicates that it works with dial up but I have been unable to find a modem that does not stop loading pages after a minute or two. The US Robotics 5637 modem that I was using for 10.6,7 and 8 will log on to the server and start downloading pages but then stops. It does not drop the connection, the pages just stop loading. A few pages it will load but something like Facebook is impossible. I monitor the connections via Little Snitch. I have a MBP that I was using and a Mini that I just purchased. After upgrading to 10.9.3 the MBP will not finish loading pages on dial up and the Mini, a clean install, will not either. I have done all the upgrades recommended bu US Robotics. US Robotics says the modem works with Mavericks. Apple support has been no help and declines to tell me what modems might actually work, refers me back to US Robotics and tells me to search the forums. I have followed all their troubleshooting and installation recommendations. Personally, I think it is OS 10.9 and not the modem but what do I know. Apple is not interested in solving the problem even though I am within the 90 day support window. I am outside of the US now and have no alternative to dial up internet access. Can anyone help me? Right now I am using a 10 years old Dell Latitude to access the internet and have no problems. After spending close to $2,000 on the Mini and peripherals I'd like to be able to use it. I'm pretty disgusted with Apple not being helpful on this. They have offered no alternatives other than to find someone other than them to figure it out.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

Is it possible to be connected with a 3G modem for internet access and a WiFi router for printer sharing at the same time?

For our only internet access we have a 3G wireless modem. I have since purchased a WiFi printer and router to connect all the comptuters to in the house. The PCs have no problem with using both the 3G connection and the WiFi signal at the same time to print, however, the MacBook Pro will not connect to the 3G network and the router, it will drop the internet access from the modem and attempt to connect via WiFi (which has no internet access). Is there a solution that is available to remedy this? I attempted to create an adhoc printer network, however, the macbooks again will not print off of this, only the PCs. And I'm getting a bit frustrated overall with this.

The 3G wireless modem is on one of the PC's correct?
Why don't you pass the Internet through the Ethernet port to the router via Cat5 cable, then have that transmit a Wifi signal that everything else can use, then connect the printer to the router for print sharing?
You would have to turn off the wifi on the comptuer with the 3G modem as it's physically connected to the router and can't connect to the other machines as they are all connected to the router for sharing.
The Mac has the ability to pass, Internet Sharing in the System Preferences.
Do you have software for the Mac to run the 3G modem?

I just received SIM card for free GSM internet access. This card has TS11 (Tele Service: Telephony) blocked and only BS 70 (Bearer Service number 70) enabled for data transmission.
Because TS11 blocked Nokia Booklet modem is not registering to the gsm network, no signal strength is displayed. How to make internal modem working?

In order to convert the USB output of a mobile broadband modem to Ethernet, a special adapter (similar to this one) would be needed. Make sure that the USB modem in question is supported.
A dedicated mobile broadband router (such as this, this or this), in a wired (LAN) combination with the AirPort Express, could possibly be another way.

You will want to turn off the WiFi on your modem (if there is WiFi on your modem). Connect the TC and the modem together with an Ethernet cable. Then, turn on your TC and set it up to be in bridged mode, connection type 'Ethernet'.
