N80 dialing bug

I've experienced a bug with my N80 since I got it -- after a while (can't tell how long, differs) it refuses do dial. No matter what I try -- select a name from the contact list, dial a number directly, dial someone from the log -- it does nothing, as if I never selected "Call -> Voice call" or pressed the dial button.
I can't really tell what causes this, but I think this happens if I try to dial someone from the contact list that has more than one number. It gives me the list of numbers, I press the dial button, the list disappears, and then the thing described above happens, therefore it's not a hardware problem, the button press is registered by the phone, just nothing happens after it.
The only thing that fixes it is a reboot.
I've updated the firmware three times now, hoping it will go away, but it doesn't, even with this latest version. Even the "factory default" firmware had this problem.
Does anybody have the same problem?
My phone is an N80 Internet Edition RM-92 EMEA (product code: 0542808).

I had this and Nokia sent me a new phone . Although the button works something is wrong with the chipset. Send it back )

  • Dialing bug nokia N80

    My phone refuses to dial.
If i manually type in a number and press call it works but whenever i try to dial a number from my contacts / call log or number in a text message it does nothing as if i never pressed the button. I tried options then call and nothing again just kicks me back to the contacts page.
It has to be because of the new firmware (v 4.0632.0.38) i put on the phone because i noticed this problrm as soon as i updated.
I've taken the phone to Nokia Care Centre at least 3 times now and im always going back which i have to do again tomorrow because they are claiming it's fixed but obviously not.
They've tried reinstalling firmware, virus scanning, reformmated memory card and nothing seems to work.
I'm fed up with it and am going to ask for a replacement because im convinced this problem cannot be fixed. If it is a firmware problem then i hope it's fixed for future versions.
Has anyone witnessed the same fault as me or has any feedback or help on this problem that can assist me??

    Hi juzz18,
I have the same problem with my Nokia E60. I have no idea what to do. A few days ago I upgraded my firmware to the lastest version and no resolution at all. Tomorrow I'll go to the service center and I'll see what they'll do. The bad think is that this dialing problem happens to me absolutly chaotic, I dont know what cause it and when again I wont be able to dial. Once I have a big need to make an external call while I'm driving and my phone wont dial, and I should restart the phone, but I was driving and it was really dangerous! I hope someone to resolve that problem!

  • N80 Gallery Bug introduced in firmare 5.0719.0.2

In case you guys from Nokia didnt notice it yet ...
There was a new bug introduced into the Gallery application of the Nokia N80 with Firmware 5.0719.0.2.
    The bug looks as following:
If you open the Picture Gallery there simply wont be any pictures or videos shown (from both internal memory and memory card). All one can see are the two weblinks in the gallery.
Only thing that help to bring the Gallery back to normal condition is to reboot the phone.
Several people who have upgraded to 5.0719.0.2 have this problem. And it definitely was not there before in any other Firmware Version 3.x or 4.x.
Is Nokia already aware of this bug and will fix it in a future firmware release? It really annoys me a lot. So much that i already think of buying a new phone from another manufacturer.
Besides ... Why doesnt Nokia release the 5.0725.0.1 firmware for European N80s? Maybe the bug is already corrected in this newer firmware...

    Hey
To tell the truth this is one of the most common most annoying and of course older bug from N73, N80, N91.
Later nokia introduced new gallery in N93, N93i and N91 8GB.
    I discussed a tip here:/discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=54784&page=1
It would just **bleep** me off.Message Edited by korngear on 04-Oct-200704:31 PM

  • E71 - Weird Dialing Bug

With contacts who have more than 1 number assigned to them, I dial their name on the main screen, and then press the Send button, which is supposed to show me the various phone number choices to dial. It stopped doing this, and doesn't do anything until I press another key on the pad, only then it shows me the numbers.
I had the firmware updated, and so far have had the company replace the phone for me 3 TIMES already. Each model, after a few days or weeks stops working like this.
    Am I doing something wrong?

Nope sorry doesn't do it here either.
Before you reset the handset, remove the memory card and see if it does it with the Memory card in the device.
There could be something in the card thats causing it to hang, what applications have you got running?
    Shunts...
I will mostly be communicating with a Nokia E72 Zodium Black
Nokia E72-1 with Vr 051.018.207.04 Software
If this post helped... Add some kudos!!

  • N80 How do you configure a dial up account?

On my SE p800 I could create a dial up account as the equivalent of an Access Point on the N80.
Is it possible to add a normal dial up internet account as an access point?
or do you have to use WLAN or a pre defined access point
such as 'O2 MobileWeb' that uses 3g or GPRS.

no, whenever you go to pick up email the phone will always dial it.
I have done this on an existing account so it only refreshes my email over WLAN.
    Unfortunately my problem still stands,
there is no option to select GSM as a data bearer when I create the access point.

  • Contact bug : contact phone numbers in edit mode are not shown in "dial" mode

Contacts can have seemingly unlimited phone numbers as seen in the contact edit mode, though very few are shown in the corresponding non-edit mode. Of course, Dialing is not supported in the edit mode.
I have found that contacts that include pause characters or block characters are not properly displayed in the contact "dial mode".  If you every try a conference call service, this is important to you.
At&t uses the comma as a pause, and Verizon uses the letter "t" as a pause.  *82 temporarily blocks your caller id.  Somehow the WebOS software that chooses which items to allow me to dial has bugs and worse, there is no clear way to prioritize so I am completely at the whim of the software.

I have tested entering 12 phone numbers on my own Pre Plus and all the numbers display in the normal contact field. How many phone numbers are you trying to to display?
The dialing options on the Palm Pre Plus are as follows:
To insert a two-second pause in the dialing sequence, enter a T where you want the pause to appear. To add a + symbol in the dialing sequence for international dialing, press and hold 0 (zero) in the location where you want the + symbol to appear. To insert a stop in the dialing sequence, enter a P where you want the stop to appear; to dial the next set of numbers after the stop, tap the screen.
As far as 3rd party special dialing character entry you would need to check with the 3rd party on how to enter this information into you device for your conference calling service.

  • Does newest N80 firmware fix T9 dictionary bug?

My N80 firmware has been updated already twice in my local service point (Finland) for the same reason: in some phase of usage it stops saving new words to dictionary.
When writing SMS and entering a new word, it remembers that new word during the same message writing. When opening a new message to write, the word is no longer in use (not included in dictionary's suggestions).
First firmware update didn't fix the problem - I keep thinking because I restored a full backup from memory card - maybe restored also faulty dictionary file?? Don't know is that a file that is includes in full backup.
Second update: I didn't restore anything and "teached" the new words all over again. Now the dictionary has stopped working again!
I checked my current firmware: 4.0623.0.41 (build 26-07-2006)
Ran software update availability check: available version 4.0623.0.42 (build 20-09-2006).
I really wonder why my local service point hasn't put the newest firmware for me, think this new version has been out ages ago (yes, I do realise that build date is different that release date). These firmware re-installations (because the version hasn't changed from the version which was on the phone when I bought it on April 07) have both been done after May 2007.
Now, the question is, if I go to the service point, should they have this version 4.0623.0.42 available to my phone? The second time (in June) when I asked the newest possible version, this .41 was installed again - so can someone from Finland confirm if this new .42 has delivered to service points? Hate to go nagging there if they really don't have it
And more importantly, (and to this I like to hear the answer from Nokia personnel or from users who have been experiencing same problem) will this firmware version fix this problem? Either
    a) keeps saving words
    or
    b) gives a proper error if saving is not possible for reason X
In my case it could not have been "not enough memory/free space"-error, because I have plenty of free space in both, phone and memory card. So if the error comes for some other reason, like to know why.
And no, I won't try to update firmware by my self. I tried it once and my phone died So no trust from me to that service.

I don't believe her claim unless it was true and valid up until the N95. I pass through Wales an awful lot during my work day and therefore I have many many Welsh town and place names entered into my T9 dictionary, along with other words I have added and the few custom smilies I added to it, it has to have way more than 30 words in it.
I'm aware of a bug that resets the T9 dictionary every now and then. The word file gets overwritten every so often and your words disappear. Never did find out what caused it but it affected the 6680. Perhaps this could be the problem.

  • Firmware V4.0623.0.42 for N80 - bug fixes?

I have installed firmware V4.0623.0.41 in my Nokia N80 but after that the application I developed, stopped working (It uses WLAN).
There's no FOTA option in my mobile so I can't upgrade it by myself. Any Nokia Service Centre can cope with this and install V4.0623.0.42 on it?
Before addressing this issue in that way I would like to be sure if firmware V4.0623.0.42 will "bring back" my application, so the bug fixes list is very welcome.
    FW information:
    V4.0623.0.41

    Nokia N80 (11)
    cheers.

    oh
i see so *#7370# is the code for the hard reset, i thought it is a soft reset i.e i thought it only resets to the original factory settings without removing the standard applications like quickoffice, adobe, settings wizard, mobile search etc.
Because i too thought i should reset the phone after the 0.41 FW upgrade and used this code to reset my phone but then it didnt uninstall quickoffice, adobe, settings wizard, mobile search etc...But now it looks like if you use this code after installing the 0.42 firmware it will uninstall them..hmm intresting.
but like you said its no big deal really as you can download and reinstall them anyway.
now lets hope that nokia release the V5 firmware soon and in that i hope that they fix the "go to" application thats in the "my own" menu and allow the users to put applications in there! as at the moment it has only 3 applications in it (inbox, calender and notes) and there's no way to put any other apps in there! how useless is that!! as it would be useful to put all the commonly used apps in there and assign it as a shortcut button like i used to have it on my previous 6230i and my good old trusted 6280! ahh the good old days!

  • Possible bug on n80 v4 firmware?

Has anyone else noticed that if change the time settings in the clock from operator to manual or vice/versa it disconnects you from the network - only way to get it back onto network is to switch phone off and on again.

This bug does not occur for me. My operatore is T-Mobile in the UK. UK unbranded N80 on standard generic V4 firmware.

  • N80: Feeds Client bug and possible solution

    Hi everyone,
I've found what appears to be a bug in Feeds Client V. 3.0(0529) in my Nokia N80 Internet Edition.
I've added a couple of feeds when connecting to a WLAN, but when I tried to read those feeds again, this time away from that WLAN range, it didn't even gave me the choice of network connection: it just tried to go back to the same connection without asking.
I deleted that network's entry in Tools->Network->Access points. Because I only had two feed address saved, I've also deleted them.
But this time the phone didn't even allow me to go into the Feeds folder!
What appeared to solve the bug was something like this.
    1) Create a new bookmark with the feed address (e.g. Google News). You can delete it later.
    2) Start browsing the feed. Your browser should ask what is the network to use, if you've configured that way.
    3) You get the feed list, hopefully. If you choose Back, the mobile will show the feed list you've saved (in my case, only the feed I'm reading because I've previously deleted all of them).
This seemed to do it. If you want to be sure, save the new feed in the Feeds folder again, and delete the previous feed.
Hopefully this will allow you to go around the bug and let the Feeds Client think it should access the network connection you want. The problem is, it still only lets you read the feeds through the network connection you've selected!
    Regards,
    J.B.

A better test would be to move one at a time (Desktop folder) until you find the codec causing the trouble.
    Two of my guesses:
    Out of date DivX
    VLC plug-in

sophieinsydney, these boards are for user-to-user support only. They're not the place to get support from Nokia. If you want to get help from Nokia, you should use the 'Contact us' link at the top of the page to contact your local Nokia team.

  • Bug- speakerphone dialing

When dialing a call using the speaker phone, if you press the sleep button twice to turn the screen off, after 15 seconds (only if the phone is still ringing, and the person hasn't picked up) the speaker will shut off.
If you press the home button to get the screen back on, the ringing over the speaker will resume. Its kinda odd, I'm assuming its just a weird bug and that the fix is easy.
    Has anyone else noticed this?

    Did you try speakerphone?
    Here is what I did
    1. Dial out a call. (Hopefully to someone who won't answer and has no answering machine)
    2. Press Speaker phone so you hear the ringing
    3. Press Sleep/Wake one time. You will get a slide to unlock, Press second time it goes to sleep.
Got to press it in slow movements not super fast press. As I did that and was confused myself.

  • BUG: Speed Dials not functioning correctly when Option button is last used

There is a bug in WebOS where Speed Dials do not work correctly.  Holding down your speed dial favorites button will not place the call. This happens when the option key is used in launcher or card view before attempting speed dial.
For instance if your last character of a search you did 4 hours ago on your phone contained a series of numbers and you locked the option key to do so, (or even if you accidently hit the option key last and then did not need it) then an attempt to use speed dial "G" will not work, as your Pre/Pixi thinks you are holding down the "6" key and not the "G" key.
This needs to be remedied (for instance have the option key press clear out or unlocked as soon as the search is performed or cleared off of the phone) because there is no way to tell what state the option key is in before using a speed dial (not that I want to check and fiddle with it anyway).

The Z and B keys are the * and # keys. That is why they are not in the speed dial list. Hmmm... while it might be a "bug" at this time your the only person having this issue as far as I can tell. Since the issue moved to another phone it could be that  its related to your Palm Profile. I unfortunately cannot replicate this issue but would like to test something. Can you do a Partial erase on your device and create a new Palm profile? This will see if the issue is still on the device.
If it is not then the issue is within your Palm Profile. If that is the case I can help you from there. Please post back when you tried this step.

    N80 V5.0719.0.2 24-05-2007 RM-92 Nokia N80 (12)

Yes, the new version is 5.0719.0.2 it is available now (I really dreamed last night that Nokia has launched this 5th version) when I checked I was very happy because I thought it would solve all the problems I have in my last V4.0707.0.7 but unfortunately it solved only some bugs but the most important bug has not been solved and the new version has the same bug as the previous one:
1.Phone requests Time/Date when restarted – whenever switched off and back on (this is the most important bug and I want to reply to the guy who thinks that it is a hardware problem: NO it is a bug in the new firmware because I haven't had this problem before i update to V4.0707.0.7 I am deadly sure)this is still on the new version 5.0719.0.2 !!!
2.No service messages available, it show requesting then nothing (ok this was solved on the new version)
3.A cursor appears blinking at the right side of the balloon that shows caller number(this is still on the new version 5.0719.0.2 !!!)
4.Led stays blinking even after using the keypad and when calling (ok this was solved on the new version)
5.Lower video quality (ok this was solved on the new version)
I was waiting for the new Version to solve all the bugs specially the first one - but now after the new version I am thinking to throw Nokia products forever as I am not willing to wait more than that withouht the alarm colock, reminders, and more important I used to switch off my phone to get a quiet sleep since the new version I cannot sleep well, I have to leave my phone switched on to keep the clock running! but what if the battery runs out especially it lasts for less than day and all N80 users know this well and i think this bug cannot be solved.
I want to tell all the users of N80 that we are all have been screwed by Nokia - I am really disappointed and wouldn't ever think that I will use other brands than Nokia but know just to retort this to Nokia I will have to use other brand

  • Help! - N80 as a dial-up modem not through GPRS

Does anybody know if it is possible to use the N80 to connect to a laptop for dial-up connection to my ISP. I'm talking about actually dialing a phone number to connect and not through GPRS (tethering). I already got tethering working, I'm just wondering if it is possible to get it to actually dial a phone number to connect. I have a lot of anytime minutes in my Cingular account and want to use them for this purpose. Thanks in advance.
What is the correct AT script to use for this to happen?

I think SIG has the answer, but I tried to find out on their various sites... seems that until you take the Hook, they won't tell you what the Line costs, then the cost of the Sinker will only be revealed once you get the Bill!
I think if they've picked up any traits from down here in GW land, that whatever YOU want to do will cost more than expected, and use the worst option for you!
