N80 Firmware on Orange now at v4.0623.0.42

Just installed the new NSU v1.3.0en and ran it to see if there was anything new on it, and noticed that my Orange network N80 can now be upgraded from v4.0623.0.41 to v4.0623.0.42.
When did this happen and what are the changes. I thought Orange had stopped supporting this phone. Maybe they aren't that bad a network after all.Message Edited by blackrain on 14-Feb-2007

Hi im informed that there is a non nokia procedure to upgrade phone i have got x1 of 5 files needed to do this. I wouldve like to done the upgrade from nokia pc-suite/nsu but this software is **bleep**!
So **bleep** is nokia NSU procedure that it will in most cases brick your phone rendering it useless.
I have asked this forums admin for clarification and have yet to get a reply, seems they avoid all issue whhen customers wnat to do the upgrade themselfs.
If there is some on here that has done a UK v3 firmwarte to V4 using NSU please let me know in addition anyone domne the other non nokia way let us know where i can get all the files from.

  • Latest N80 Firmware for Orange

What is the latest firmware available on Orange?
    Im currently on
    V.3.0614.0.3
    RM92
I was told by Customer Services that firmware upgrades would be done via sim updates but im not sure how this is technically possible.

Hi there, I don't think the Orange operators have much of a clue as to firmware updates or their method of delivery, either that or they're not letting on. If you're having problems with your phone you can always take it to an authorised Nokia service centre for updates under manufacrurers warranty, I have read somewhere on these boards that Orange claim this action will invalidate their warranty but to be truthful I think that might infringe your statutory rights - in the UK anyway. Btw, If you're not experiencing problems don't have the firmware updated - don't fix what's not broken!

  • Does newest N80 firmware fix T9 dictionary bug?

My N80 firmware has been updated already twice in my local service point (Finland) for the same reason: in some phase of usage it stops saving new words to dictionary.
When writing SMS and entering a new word, it remembers that new word during the same message writing. When opening a new message to write, the word is no longer in use (not included in dictionary's suggestions).
First firmware update didn't fix the problem - I keep thinking because I restored a full backup from memory card - maybe restored also faulty dictionary file?? Don't know is that a file that is includes in full backup.
Second update: I didn't restore anything and "teached" the new words all over again. Now the dictionary has stopped working again!
I checked my current firmware: 4.0623.0.41 (build 26-07-2006)
Ran software update availability check: available version 4.0623.0.42 (build 20-09-2006).
I really wonder why my local service point hasn't put the newest firmware for me, think this new version has been out ages ago (yes, I do realise that build date is different that release date). These firmware re-installations (because the version hasn't changed from the version which was on the phone when I bought it on April 07) have both been done after May 2007.
Now, the question is, if I go to the service point, should they have this version 4.0623.0.42 available to my phone? The second time (in June) when I asked the newest possible version, this .41 was installed again - so can someone from Finland confirm if this new .42 has delivered to service points? Hate to go nagging there if they really don't have it
And more importantly, (and to this I like to hear the answer from Nokia personnel or from users who have been experiencing same problem) will this firmware version fix this problem? Either
    a) keeps saving words
    or
    b) gives a proper error if saving is not possible for reason X
In my case it could not have been "not enough memory/free space"-error, because I have plenty of free space in both, phone and memory card. So if the error comes for some other reason, like to know why.
And no, I won't try to update firmware by my self. I tried it once and my phone died So no trust from me to that service.

I don't believe her claim unless it was true and valid up until the N95. I pass through Wales an awful lot during my work day and therefore I have many many Welsh town and place names entered into my T9 dictionary, along with other words I have added and the few custom smilies I added to it, it has to have way more than 30 words in it.
I'm aware of a bug that resets the T9 dictionary every now and then. The word file gets overwritten every so often and your words disappear. Never did find out what caused it but it affected the 6680. Perhaps this could be the problem.

  • N80 firmware upgrades (how?)

    Hello,
There has been some discussion here about the N80 firmware. My N80 is orange and suffers from a few issues. Firstly the web browser is pretty much useless for me, out of memory errors on almost every page. Relatively frequent out of memory errors in Gallery whilst attempting to play a video taken with the camera. Snakes is not playable it crashes out as soon as you actually try to start the game.
I'm wondering how firmware upgrades are peformed with a network like orange? I presume Nokia service centres wouldn't do this because of the altered firmware for the network.
I'm in the UK if it makes a difference.
    Thanks,
    Richard

Yep, but it's a pain to do as you have to keep backing up on the PC every time you get a new contact.
Is that an N95 in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?!?
Life's too important to take seriously.
    Nokias I've owned 3210, 3310, 6100, 7650, 6600, 6680, 6630, N80, N95
    I'm a 26 year old boy BTW

  • N80 Firmware

Dropped off my N80 at my local service centre earlier on today to upgrade firmware. Got a phone call a couple of hours later from the engineer telling me that there has been 10 updates released for my phone for the version I have(I only got it last friday) but.... the phone will not respond to any update he tries to install. The phone is communicating with his computer but will not install any update. So I've since had to contact o2 to arrange a replacement to be sent to me, which will probably itself need to be taken for a firmware upgrade. Fingers crossed this one will be alright.

    Hi
Im going to lock this thread, since the N80 firmware is being discused in other threads, and nothing is being said to merit a new thread.
    New N80 Firmware - 4.0623.0.24
    and
    New N80 Firmware

  • Updating N80 firmware over the air

Can somebody please tell me how to update my N80 firmware over the air?

Assuming you have the correct software version (I think you need at least 4.0623.0.41) then you can open Device Manager and then select Options -> Check for updates. From other discussions it looks like not all variants have this feature activated.
I did hear a rumour that if you have an N80 in the UK with SW version older than 4.0623.0.41 and variant 58 you can phone the Nokia careline and they can send you the latest software. (of course my friend might have been joking)

  • Upgrading N80 firmware

    Hi all
I have read that there is a newer version of the firmware than the one currently on my phone. My version is
    V3.0614.0.3
    11-04-2006
    RM-92
    Nokia N80 (31.02)
I am happy with my phone apart from 2 issues. The first is the battery life. I have to charge my battery almost every day which is annoying. I do play games alot on my phone (underground to work and back!!!!!) so I just have to accept this.
The second annoyance is the "out of memory" error. I have spent the last hour or so reading this forum and I know there is a newer version of firmware available but no instructions as to where to get it. My N80 is on Orange, if I upgrade the firmware, do I lose the orange settings and more importantly will the phone still work on the Orange network.
    Thanks
    Marv

    Ahh,
Yes, this is an Europe board. But remember, just a short while ago, this is just an UK board. So if more people like myself use it, I hope that this board will eventually grew to encompass the world. And remember, unfortunately, this is the only official discussion forum that Nokia has.
For warranty, no links. But I can scan my warranty card and mail it to an address PM to me. Its states down there:
    ***** Start of Extraction *****
    a) twelve (12) months for the mobile device and accessories (whether included in the mobile device sales package or sold separately) other than the consumable parts and accessories listed in (b) and (c) below;
    b) six (6) months for the following consumable parts and accessories: batteries, charges, desk stands, headsets, cables and covers; and
    c) ninety (90) days for the media on which any software is provided, e.g. CD-rom, memory card.

hi guys , am disappointed too ! lets kill some time imagining what will the new firmware contain lol
i have many suggestions many of it is stuped
    1. i wish i can remove the 2 shortcuts (horisantal ) wich is : 1.wireless scanning + 2. calender , if there exisit some option to display/remove display of them

  • N80 Firmware changelog?

Is there a Nokia certified website or source where I can find a history of N80 firmwares and what changes took place in each one?
A changelog would be absolutely fantastic to help verify that new firmewares really fix observed problems.
Also, it could be used to check if I have the latest firmware (I know I could just hook my phone up and sync it, but I'd rather have a simpler method since I've seen the Nokia Software Updater program fail on me a lot hence I don't trust it).
Currently I have an N80 running 4.0707.0.7, updated just yesterday from the previous version.

Being a computer program and well familiar with embedded systems myself I was afraid the case would be that Nokia doesn't release the details of each firmware update. Honestly, I think that is a form of sort of "corporate programmer cowardice."
Regardless, you bring up another good point: N80 users certainly should NOT load the new 4.0707.0.7 firmware as it has some severe problems.
Just to help future searchers get this:
Nokia N80 4.0707.0.7 firmware is broken and bad, do not upgrade or load this firmware.

There is a new N80 Firmware Update Available --> version 5.0725.0.1 APAC !! Product Code: 0527591
    Waiting for EMEA firmware!
    Nokia 5320 XM Red v4.13

The software version is dependent on the product code, so if you are told that you have the no update is available then you have the latest SW version for your product code.
Apart from the fact that product codes are usually unique to a country (and in some cases to a network operator), you shouldn't have any issues regarding your region.

Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors - Support - Apple
    Configure your security software
    Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.

    Hi,
Your problem has some similarities to this problem that I reported earlier this month that that still arises every few days. I was thinking that my problem was related to some sort of bug in Entourage, but maybe it's something else...

That is very bad.. how old is it??
The Gen4 TC can die this way.. it is not usual but it happens.
Leave it for several hours to cool off. Do a factory reset immediately when you try to restart it.
    The Factory Reset.
    Power down the TC.
Hold in reset. and keep holding it in. Be Gentle! It is a tiny surface mount switch with a plastic lever.. Attempting to push it out the other side of the TC will not make the switch turn on better.
(I fix TC and have several reset levers bent over and jammed or broken off).
Power on the TC.. remember with the reset held in.. this needs three arms.. a friend or power switch you can get to with your feet..
Keep holding in reset for about 10sec until the front LED flashes rapidly.
Release reset and wait .. the boot will be slow as it deletes previous setting.. only from router side and pulls out the factory defaults. No files are deleted on the hard disk.. but the name of the TC may change.
Tell me exactly what the LEDs do throughout this process.
Both the main one at the front and the LED on the ethernet ports which should all flash during bootup.
If it is less than a year.. of course Apple will replace under warranty.. 2 years in some places.. Europe .. places with stronger consumer laws. If you have applecare on a computer it should still cover the TC.
I kind of doubt you are going to get this going again... but we can try.

  • N80 firmware update question...

I think I have read this in other posts but am unsure how valid it is...
I have several N80 handsets 2 of which were Vodafone UK but have subsequently been unlocked by Vodafone.
The firmware versions are both v4.0623.0.41
    26/02/06
    RM- 92
    NOKIA N80 (42.03)
IF I take these to have their firmware updates done, does that then mean that they will revert back to being locked to the Vodafone network or does it stand that once a handset is unlock/network free that it remains as such?

    hi jg01
    There are two issues here:
Firstly once unlocked a BB5 remains unlocked.
Secondly because they have a "Vodaphone" product code (label under battery) if you use Nokia Software Updater it will check which is the latest Vodaphone release software for your phone (not the latest generic software)
Nokia Service Centres used to be happy to upgrade with latest generic (non-operator branded) software, but I am not sure whether they have tightened up procedures now and insist on like for like software. I am sure somebody else will give you the definitive answer!
