N80 Freezing

Hi,
I have the latest firmware on my Nokia N80 (5.0719.0.2), however i am experiencing frequent hangs and freezing in between menus. Most notably when going into Gallery. However, everything works fine if i remove my memory card (Kingston 1GB MiniSD). Also, i have problems transfering files over to my memory card after transfering some files to it and i'm suspecting incompatibility of memory card. Any ideas? :/

If would be worth trying another memory card if you can get your hands on one. The card may be faulty.

  • N80 FREEZING/CRASHING/SLOOOOOOOW

If anyone can help me that would be wicked! Had my N80 for about 12 months now, worked fine when i got it. Now all of a sudden it constantly freezes when i try and go into anything like messages, gallery etc.Its very very slow and crashes and freezes very often. Never used to be like this??
Its got the latest firmware on it but that hasnt made a difference.Installed sms excellerator...that hasnt made a difference. Also, I cannot get the sleep mode to work anymore, it just wont go into sleep mode. Charged it lastnite. Went to bed, never used it for calls etc and by midday the next day battery was dead!!! My contract is up in 3 months. Its doing my head in, 3 months of this!!
Have read about reformating/soft resets ect but im unsure as that would be a last resort?
If anyone could help me that would be very much appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    Neil

soun ds like the phone is running to many stand by apps and is crawling along at a slugs pace
I am assuming that you have done the obvious, take battery and sim out without switching off, leave it ten mins then restart?
if not try that, sometimes if there are stray apps running or the memory has not been released after an operation it throws a wobbler!
If that does not work back up all your contacts etc to the phone and do a hard reset.
WARNING this will rest your phone to how it was new out of the box, i.e. blank absolutely nothing on it but the OS and whatever branding it was firmware'd with.
You will lose all data if not backed up!
Also before doing a full reset remove sim and memory cards.
The hard reset is a sticky at the head of the page of this section ie n series/smartphones.

  • How transfer SMS from 6680 to N80?

Hi, how i can transfer 3.000 sms from MMC of 6680 to SD of N80? I have copied the files but when i try to read the N80 freeze.
    Help me.
    Thanks

this can be done easily. My first question is are you trying to restore the SMS from a backup or from the mail folder in your memory card? The easiest way is to copy from the mail folder of the MMC to the same mail folder of your SD. Restoring from a backup I don't have any faith in the backup utility so I don't know about it

  • Nokia N80 - iMac G5 BT transfer freezes at 263.9kb

    Hi,
Each time I try to transfer a large file from my Nokia N80 to my iMac G5 (OS X 10.4.6) using BlueTooth the upload freezes exactly at 263.9kb I have no problem with files which size is under 263.9 kb
I've contacted Nokia regarding this issue and they answered me that this has nothing to do with us and that I should contact Apple support.
Any idea to fix this issue? Anybody alse having the same problem?
thanks a lot for your answers!
    Cheers
    Laurent

I just ran into this problem and Googling for "263.9" seems to reflect a number of similar cases.
A poster at another forum had received word from Nokia saying "nothing to do with us" and indeed all the Google hits indicated a Mac user suffering from the problem.
However, some information hinted that phone firmware updates would have fixed the problem for some models. Woohoo for contradictory information.
I ran into the problem using a factory fresh Nokia e70 and G4 PowerBook with 10.4.6, and the firmware for this phone is indeed the latest.
More information on this would be appreciated,

  • N80 menu crashing phone freezing advice needed

Hi guys i'm new on here, i've had my N80 12days and now its started to crash and freeze its completely useless to me at the moment as it wont go into any menu. Most calls go straight through to answer phone despite full signal and the battery life is **bleep** - but i've got some tips to improve that.
I rang orange who said its the softwear and the only way to fix it is to take battery out and replace it, they then said there may be softwear upgrade available.
I'm not very technical and i've not been able to find anything about this so far.
My firmwear vision is V.3.0617.06 03/05/2006

I agree here, I have has some experience with this and have taken quite a few big companes to court and won (i did this with my sendo X and pixmania) because they just try to fob you off, as a buyer you have rights, and as explained above you have the right to purchase a product and that product should work in the way intended for a reasonable amount of time, with many things reasonable actually goes beyond 12 months, but 12 months is just a nice round number.
When you speak to them just mention the office of fair trading, trading standards and offcom and watch how their attitude changes, if it does not threaten them that you are giving them 7 days notice to rectify your problems or you will take them to small claims court and claim for reimbursment and all costs involved), you can do this online, its very easy and costs about £50 (which you can claim for in the summons).
As soon as they get the summons (which is usually next day or within 24 hours) they will be more than happy to do whatever is needed to fix your problem because the last thing any company wants is a CCJ, and dont forget to tell them to send you a check for the cost of the claim, if they refuse tell them you will continue with the claim untill they fix your phone AND reimburse you with your costs.
DONT STOP THE CLAIM UNTILL YOU ARE SATISFIED.
Its very easy to do, go here
    https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/csmco2/index.jsp
Trust me if you get no joy through normal measures, then you have to take drastic action, they wouldnt think twice about taking you to court.

  • Zen Micro Freezes during play and sometimes won't turn on at

I have been having some issues with my micro and wondered if anyone could help. I didn't drop it or do anything I can recall to cause these issues, it just seemed to start out of the blue. 2 things are happening. Sometimes it will freeze during play and "buzz" (it's really just transmitting a countinuous sound of a millisecond of what it was playing like if the guy was saying apple, and it freezes when he starts to say it it will sound like "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" but in a completely illegible buzz way). Second, it will sometimes not turn on at all, no creative logo, no lights, no nothing. Once I take out the battery and replace it, it will always then start no problem. The battery does not seem to be loose at all as the above mentioned buzzin will not stop until I remove the battery, and as I have repeatedly removed the back of the micro during these buzz session?the battery remains firmly seated and the buzzing continues until I remove it. So far I have updated the firmware to 2.2.02 (which I believe reformatted) which didn't stop it from freezing up during play, and just now did a disk clean up (which I can't imagine will have any change?if a complete format didn't). I haven't had the start up problem since the firmware update, but I haven't turned it on and off that many times yet. Any ideas? Sorry to be so verbose but I wanted to explain as best as I could what's wrong, and what I've done so far.

Remove SIM and miniSD card first. Try to boot.
The try hooking it up to the PC again. And see if you might be able to redo the update process.
You can also try a hard reset. As described in a different tread. (Or read below).
Othervise, I afraid you will have to take it to a Service Center.
    -- Quote from djassa1 (Re: N80 won't start up!)--
    Just reset to factory default.
You will need your 2 hands to do that: While the phone is off press and hold the [Green call Button] + [3 digit button] + [* button] and power on and hold the powwer button. Do that until the phone asks you for the local city reference.
    -- End Quote --
    Best of luck!

  • N80 SMS and Ringtone issues.

    Hi Everyone,
My phone takes too long to send SMS (2 - 3min), my gallery freezes when you revert back to it after editing a picture and the ringtones play when my phone rings, but seconds later it slows down like a broken record!
I have perform the *-3-Green reset, I have had the software updated and the issue is unresolved.
I dont think Nokia knows what to do now except for reloading the firmware. (Theey have reloaded it a total 9 times since I got the phone in July 2006)
Can anyone shine some light, apart from going to another brand?
    My carrier is Vadofone AU.
    Cheers.

    Hi, thanks for your reply!
I phoned vodafone up the other day and asked if they could replace it for me, as I was getting no resolve on this matter. The said Yes but it wouldnt be a new one?????
When I managed to pick my jaw up from the floor I asked why? (After all, arent there 12 month warranty's on new phones)
The woman then said they use old internals from other phones with new facias!!! Excuse me???
I think that is disgusting after sales services, and I wonder whether Vodafone have enforced this or Nokia themselves!!
Imagine if fords adopted this style of service with there cars! Yes, it wouldnt happen!!
AND......the woman also said that she couldnt guarantee that the phone would have the updated firmware installed (which is the reason why I want my phone replacing in the first place)
Im sorry, is it me or am I really really missing something?????
Does anyone know where i stand legally on this matter?
Have i got sufficient grounds to end my 18 month contract with them? Because to be honest i want out now!!!
Well I'm not sure of the small print, but, if part of the contract with them was you getting a phone that worked then surely if the phone is little more use than a paperweight then that would be breach of trading standards as it's "not fit for it's purpose" by giving you a second user phone they are making you pay for a 12 -18 month contract on a second hand phone. I'm not sure if you have to accept a second user phone. After all you paid a hefty contract for a new phone. Not one that somebody else has had problems with!.
How would Voda feel if you started messing about with the dates of payment and stuff? They would still be getting paid but not on their terms. You would be in breach of contract but surely they would be too by giving you a second user phone. Tell them you want a new phone not one that has been around the block. Not sure how far you will get but if you keep hassling about this and there is a chance of damage to the Voda name then they may be more "understanding".
I mean if people kicked up a fuss then other "lesser" operators may decide that they will offer new phones as replacements as a sales gimmick to get higher up in the market. Voda wouldn't want that now would they?
Just to summarise, tell voda your not happy and keep making a noise and threaten to go to the papers or something. Nobody likes bad press. Tell them that it is not fit for it's purpose and is therefore breach of trading standards and offering a second user phone is not acceptable as you signed a contract for a new working phone.
    Kepp at it bud.
Is that an N95 in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?!?

    Hi there,
I had exactly the same problem with my phone from three UK. I don't think the answer is deleting your messages, as I think you should be able to store more than a 100 messages on a phone of this calibre.
I got mine sent away by 3, they probably just updated the firmware but may have done more. I would definately recommend this option as since then I have had the phone back a week and it is bliss when you send a message you can do something else straight away.

Its hit and miss though whether you will get a decent one back lol My first I returned bacause it just died on me!! I returned my n80 to o2 on the friday and I had a fefurbished n80 by wednesday but it was riddled with problems, so returned that one and have got another refurbished n80 which I gotta say has no problems at all with anything including battery which is great too. And all on V3 firmware.....Although I still want V4 p

  • N80 SMS problem/restarting (!?)

    hi.
I have a few problems, i don't know if they are linked.
I'll start with a background story. I had UltraIMpro, and F-secure anti-virus (both trial versions) on my N80, both had run out of subscriptions. I noticed that my phone had started to restart tself a lot, sometimes about 3 or 4 times a day, i knew it was doing this because that F-secure screen always appeared after it had restarted, asking me if i wanted to do a scan, as usual! I always just exited the program, and have scanned for viruses, there arent any!
Anyway, this Restartign thing got annoying, and then another thing introduced itself! I was with some friends, and both of them said they had texted me earlier, but i hadn't received them. The next day, i turned my phone off, and when i turned it pon again, i got the 2 text messages. These messages did not appear when the phone restarted itslef, but only when i turned it off myself. This happened once more, after which i got **bleep** off and decided that maybe i should back-up my data on my 1GB card and hard-reset the phone, maybe this would solve the problem i thought.
So, one night, i tried to do this, and i got the error message "Memory card full : close some applications and try again" now, i have 540mb free on this card, and no applications running on the phone. Even right now, it wont let me make a backup, Could anyone explain this??
So, having failed that, i wondered if these extra applications were annoying my phone, so i uninstall the useless ones, F-secure and UltraIMpro, and surely enough, i go and run a few tests, and the SMS's seem to be arriving fine and imemdiately. Is that logical at all? Is there a phoesable explanation for this?
I can't tell if that has fixed the restarting problem, as i uninstalled F-secure, which was the only thing telling me that it was restarting, but i haven't seen it restarting yet, so i also hope that problem has blown over.
So, basically, i was just looking to see if anyone could help me with this memory backup problem, and if someone could explain all of this gaffuffle!
    Thanks!

I change phones a lot, have had 11 different handsets in 2006!!

    ok lets start:
restarts.....delete all apps on the phone including themes etc.(use pc suite to save what you need on your pc)i believe this prob stems from the f secure trying to still read your system and cant cause its a trial so its not completing the operation and basically hindering the other apps
text messages- n80 has a lag in sending text some prior users have complained that it freezes for 40secs when they sent text messages.....please dont worry about this its a firmware problem/bug which if you go to a nokia service centre it can be upgraded to the latest firmware in the uk...be patient as well as nokia has also introduced over the air and downloadable firmware upgrades....unfortunately the n80 is not yet available....so its nsc or wait until it is(it is very easy to do this as ive upgraded one of my older models which is available.....click on home on the top of this page and at the bottom left there should be some info on this)
memory card- i have found that certain cards do not work well with mobile phones i suggest sandisk which sem to work well with mobile phones.....that memory problem seems to have been a bug to others i didnt have this prob(2gb sandisk memory card) so i guess this is dependant on the actual handset some give this prob others dont.....firmware upgrade is expected to change this hopefully.....
lastly as said in the first answer save your stuff to your pc and then you can master reset your phone this helps as well (press *#7370# on the active standby screen) but remember all data will be lost including contacts so save everything!!!!!
