N80 no service

My N80 wont get any service at all. I didnt drop it or break it. Had it for 1 month, it worked great, then it just stopped. Everything on the phone works perfect, except it wont get service so I cant call or recieve calls. I updated to the newest firmware, and its a RM-92 model. and the firmware is 5.0719.0.2. I live in the U.S.A and the phone was built in malaysia so U.S nokia wont fix it, anybody got some suggestions on whats wrong or how to fix it.

Try borrowing a friends SIM-card. I've had the same problem, and the SIM-card was the problem. A new SIM-card and problem solved.
Apparently the SIM-cards sometimes dies. THey may work fine in one older phone but the newer ones seems to burn them out.
If thats the case contact your service provider to have it replaced.Message Edited by dezi on 30-Oct-200711:33 AM

    So bad,.
If it was gone completely bad I would have reqeusted you to perform the 3 buttons action.
But it still alive but with the phenomena that are only possible if the SW update is not done properly.
You tried update it again and again.
So, I guess it is the wisest thing to take it to repair centre.
    But before that
you can try a hard reset:
*#7370#. I dont know if yopu already did you.
    But repair centre is safe.

  • Repair service for N80 (bricked after firmware upd...

    Hi,
I have a broken N80 mobile, that doesn't boot up anymore after an unsuccessful firmware update. Unfortunately the warranty is over and Nokia Service refused to repair as it is apparently not "worth" the repair cost. Does anybody here know a clever third-party company (preferable in Europe) that repairs this kind of damage and is capable of "soldering out" the flash mem and put a new one in (as normal flashing - even through the service bus doesnt seem to work anymore)?

Hmm,thats too bad but I can't hardly believe that a software(e.g. upgrade) can damage an electronic chips (flash memory)& service bus ! Its not allowed here to discuss hardware repair, but a hint... any laptop repair shop that is equipt with heat gun & laser for removing SMT chips can do that, if you knew the particular chips.

  • Can I use a Nokia N80 as a modem for my G4 PowerBook?

I'm about to spend a month in Italy and will take my G4 PowerBook with me. I need to buy a new mobile phone and thought that if I buy the Nokia N80 Internet Edition I can also use it as a modem for my PowerBook and connect using UMTS or EDGE. I already have a prepaid SIM card with TIM (Italian mobile service provider).
Has anyone successfully used the N80 with their G4 PowerBook?
    Cheers

  • N80-best place to repair faulty keys?

My week old N80 has developed a serious fault with the 'menu' and 'right' 'down' navigation keys no longer working. It seems like I have two options.
1)Take it to my local service centre, probably a branch of the carphonewarehouse, none of whom answer the phone when I call and will probably be unable to fix the problem on site anyway.
2)Send it straight to the Nokia repair centre in the post, even though there seems to be no indication of the length of time they'd hold my (only) mobile phone with.
If anyone has any previous experience getting a fault fixed and can suggest which option to go with that'd be really helpful.
    Thanks

That should be an issue. Is it on contract or SIM free? If contract, get the account holder (if not you) to contact the network and get a replacement. You warranty is with them in this instance to replace.
If SIM free, take to a service centre, and they'll sort it.

  • Does newest N80 firmware fix T9 dictionary bug?

My N80 firmware has been updated already twice in my local service point (Finland) for the same reason: in some phase of usage it stops saving new words to dictionary.
When writing SMS and entering a new word, it remembers that new word during the same message writing. When opening a new message to write, the word is no longer in use (not included in dictionary's suggestions).
First firmware update didn't fix the problem - I keep thinking because I restored a full backup from memory card - maybe restored also faulty dictionary file?? Don't know is that a file that is includes in full backup.
Second update: I didn't restore anything and "teached" the new words all over again. Now the dictionary has stopped working again!
I checked my current firmware: 4.0623.0.41 (build 26-07-2006)
Ran software update availability check: available version 4.0623.0.42 (build 20-09-2006).
I really wonder why my local service point hasn't put the newest firmware for me, think this new version has been out ages ago (yes, I do realise that build date is different that release date). These firmware re-installations (because the version hasn't changed from the version which was on the phone when I bought it on April 07) have both been done after May 2007.
Now, the question is, if I go to the service point, should they have this version 4.0623.0.42 available to my phone? The second time (in June) when I asked the newest possible version, this .41 was installed again - so can someone from Finland confirm if this new .42 has delivered to service points? Hate to go nagging there if they really don't have it
And more importantly, (and to this I like to hear the answer from Nokia personnel or from users who have been experiencing same problem) will this firmware version fix this problem? Either
    a) keeps saving words
    or
    b) gives a proper error if saving is not possible for reason X
In my case it could not have been "not enough memory/free space"-error, because I have plenty of free space in both, phone and memory card. So if the error comes for some other reason, like to know why.
And no, I won't try to update firmware by my self. I tried it once and my phone died So no trust from me to that service.

I don't believe her claim unless it was true and valid up until the N95. I pass through Wales an awful lot during my work day and therefore I have many many Welsh town and place names entered into my T9 dictionary, along with other words I have added and the few custom smilies I added to it, it has to have way more than 30 words in it.
I'm aware of a bug that resets the T9 dictionary every now and then. The word file gets overwritten every so often and your words disappear. Never did find out what caused it but it affected the 6680. Perhaps this could be the problem.

  • N80 update problem!!!

    Hello,
I need help regarding updating my N80 otherwise it will continue to sleep in the drawer....
I bought an N80 3 days ago but it was really really slow. After reading the forums I learnt that I may update it.
Checked my ver. it was 3.06...
    I installed PC Suite 6.84 and NSU from Nokia site. Then;
PC suite takes ages to connect to my phone via USB original cable from the box. At last it says, found but icon on the bottom left in PCS says no connection, anyway when I click update software via PCs it runs NSU and starts to update.
At first, NSU found latest firmware for my phone is V5.07 and downloaded something like 64.8 MB then started to update my phone on the next step but I never touched the phone or the pc but when the status bar was about %80, suddenly NSU gave the message "connection to phone lost" then on the next step it said, remove the battery then replace then click retry, I did it but then I got the message, update cancelled.
Then when the phone opened it was showing the new version but I think it is not completely updated because when I hit menu button, or multimedia button a blank screen comes, then phone restarts...
I tried to update again and again, always the same...
Do you have any proposal? (I will take to to service this weekend)
    I am using XP SP2
    Thx in advance

  • N80 bluetooth disconnecting issue

I am unable to use my bluetooth gps with N80. It disconnects the bt connection about once in 5 minutes.
I've read some forums and it seems that others are also experiencing similar bug in N80 (bt headsets and gps's)
    My firmware is 3.0617.0.6
I'm using Navicore software and disconnecting happens both with location api and direct bluetooth connections. This (using location api) makes me believe, it is operating system issue and not Navicore.
I'm waiting for an upgraded firmware. When will it be released and is this bug known/fixed?

Hi there, I had problems with the bluetooth too. I have the same firmware as you and was having problems with a headset. I took it to Phoneland and although there is no new firmware at the moment there is a service upgrade (Bluetoothe, Wi-Fi etc)which fixed the problem with the headset. Maybe you need to get yours done too. Just tell them your having trouble with bluetooth and they will have a look. It's free too as long as it's still under warranty. Hope this helps.

  • N80 firmware upgrades (how?)

    Hello,
There has been some discussion here about the N80 firmware. My N80 is orange and suffers from a few issues. Firstly the web browser is pretty much useless for me, out of memory errors on almost every page. Relatively frequent out of memory errors in Gallery whilst attempting to play a video taken with the camera. Snakes is not playable it crashes out as soon as you actually try to start the game.
I'm wondering how firmware upgrades are peformed with a network like orange? I presume Nokia service centres wouldn't do this because of the altered firmware for the network.
I'm in the UK if it makes a difference.
    Thanks,
    Richard

Yep, but it's a pain to do as you have to keep backing up on the PC every time you get a new contact.

  • Firmware V4.0623.0.42 for N80 - bug fixes?

I have installed firmware V4.0623.0.41 in my Nokia N80 but after that the application I developed, stopped working (It uses WLAN).
There's no FOTA option in my mobile so I can't upgrade it by myself. Any Nokia Service Centre can cope with this and install V4.0623.0.42 on it?
Before addressing this issue in that way I would like to be sure if firmware V4.0623.0.42 will "bring back" my application, so the bug fixes list is very welcome.
    FW information:
    V4.0623.0.41
    26-07-2006
    RM-92
    Nokia N80 (11)
    cheers.

    oh
i see so *#7370# is the code for the hard reset, i thought it is a soft reset i.e i thought it only resets to the original factory settings without removing the standard applications like quickoffice, adobe, settings wizard, mobile search etc.
Because i too thought i should reset the phone after the 0.41 FW upgrade and used this code to reset my phone but then it didnt uninstall quickoffice, adobe, settings wizard, mobile search etc...But now it looks like if you use this code after installing the 0.42 firmware it will uninstall them..hmm intresting.
but like you said its no big deal really as you can download and reinstall them anyway.
now lets hope that nokia release the V5 firmware soon and in that i hope that they fix the "go to" application thats in the "my own" menu and allow the users to put applications in there! as at the moment it has only 3 applications in it (inbox, calender and notes) and there's no way to put any other apps in there! how useless is that!! as it would be useful to put all the commonly used apps in there and assign it as a shortcut button like i used to have it on my previous 6230i and my good old trusted 6280! ahh the good old days!

  • Nokia N80 new firmware version 4.0707.0.7

    It's so bad firmware version!
I have lots of problems with new firmware version 4.0707.0.7 that I haven't with past version 4.0623.0.42 !
I can't understand what's going on with NOKIA Software Updater!
    >I can't enter to my "Gallery\Images & Video" from "Camera Mode"
    >My OS speed decrease
    >Captured photos don't show in "Images & Video" until I restart my N80
    >For each new files you add, you need to restart your N80 until your N80 find them in memory!!!
Why past version haven't these PROBLEMS and new version have them!!!
Does anybody know how can I return to my past firmware version (mean 4.0623.0.42) ? Is it possible?Message Edited by zoologist1 on 03-May-200712:28 PM

That's why I said you'd have to take the phone to a service center.

The service command bug is really irritating

hi guys , am disappointed too ! lets kill some time imagining what will the new firmware contain lol
i have many suggestions many of it is stuped
    1. i wish i can remove the 2 shortcuts (horisantal ) wich is : 1.wireless scanning + 2. calender , if there exisit some option to display/remove display of them
    2. if there is a way to remove the themes painlessly
    3. i want my special files pics/videos etc not to be displayed in the gallary that contain all multimedia files ( even though what i put in a seperate folder ) if i can check what folders only to be displayed in galary
    4. optional autolock with each slide closing
5.simple way to connect the internet using wifi because sometimes am already connected using some wifi connection and when browsing it says ( connection needed ) but am already connected , make it unified
6.when i close some page in the net browsing it close the connection automatically , make this optional not mandatory
i got much much more lol i know it sounds silly , but these aint hard things and dont affect other customer because its all optional lol , and ah !
    7. i have 2 GB miniSD so make the sound recorder record more than one minute depending on the memory size
    8. optional call ending each slide closing
    9. if installed themes/application can be copied/sent via bluetooth or sth ..

  • Nokia n80 problem with bluetooth

    hello all
i have an n80 which i have given to my mother.
there seems to be a problem with bluetooth. i can connect it to my laptop by bluetooth and use the connection to browse the phone and transfer files but for some reason when i try to sync with outlook the connection always fails, all the time, no matter what.
can anyone think of any reason for this?
i have tried looking for firmware updates as i havent used the handset for 18mths but i cant find the pc cable so it wont identify the phone when i run a search.
any suggestions (apart from find the cable!) will be appreciated

Not being technically qualified enough on specifications of Bluetooth 3 all I can say is that Bluetooth SDP = Service Discovery Protocol seems to be absent fron N8, whereas it is present on say 5800XM and N97 Mini which appear to behave faultlessly with Toyota Bluetooth unit if this sheds any light.
