N80 Radio interference with screen saver/power sav...

Hi all,
When listening to the Radio, (with Nokia's supllied ear phones), I can here distortion/interference. Has anyone heard this? When i press a key on the phone the noise goes away. I am convinced it's the screen saveer or power save functions thar cause it.
Anyone else had this?
Cheers!

Yes, I have the same problem. Very annoying as the radio is otherwise very good. (As is mp3 playback.)Has anyone updated the firmware and noticed an improvement?

  • PowerMac G5 hangs after going into screen saver power save mode

I have a PowerMac G5 and it's been working fine, but as of late has been hanging. I had a couple of external disks on the machine ( Maxtor OneTouch II and a OneTouch III). I recently added two more OneTouch III and stripped the three OneTouch III's together in a RAID set. I'm wondering if that is causing the hangs, but I've also seen it hang without the RAID so I'm not convinced it's the RAID.
Anyway, I can't figure out what's causing it to hang, but it seems to hang at some point after the screen saver runs and then the screen goes into power saver mode. It's not hung right when it shuts down the monitor, but at some point after that.
When it gets in this mode, I can't remotely login using ssh and I can't seem to wake it up. What I end up having to do is to hold the power button down for several seconds until the machine powers off.
In an attempt to see what's going on, I set the OS X monitor power save mode to "never", but I don't think I left it that way long enough and I never saw it hang.
Does anyone have any debugging tips that would help me identify the culprit?

I've been having the same troubles lately. Seem
since the JAVA update. It hangs completely after the
screen is shut down. Every morning I have to reboot
    with the power button.
I am also joining the crowd with this issue. I have a 15" Powerbook G4 that has acted normally until recently. Not sure exactly when it started, but about the same time as the recent updates. Similar behavior to the previous forum posts.
When I manually put the laptop to sleep it freezes up before it sleeps and the multi-language reboot warning comes up. This also happens if it is set to auto-sleep after xx minutes.
When I try to wake it up, the screen is black and the power light shows it is on and it never unfreezes or I get the reboot message.
I have tried everything I can think of to troubleshoot this. I just re-installed the 10.4.8 update over the exisiting one (using an external boot drive made with SuperDuper) and it still happens... BUT when I put the laptop to sleep with the startup drive being external, it seemed to behave properly. I can't figure this out since the external clone was made only minutes earlier from the laptop... and it works. I have zapped PRAM, and done the battery removal / power button reset.
Below is the "report" I have been getting - and sending to Apple. They must be getting tired of the many I have sent.
    Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks.

  • 6120 - Blank screen in power saver mode

    Hi everybody!
I have recenty become a proud 6120 owner (my first symbian :-)), and I have 1 question:
how can I prevent in power saver mode, my screen to go complety blank??? I would like to see the status of my phone (time, missed calls, messages, etc.)!
    this is really annoying!
can anybody help me, how to change/prevent this?
    many thx in advance
    daniel

In menu/settings/themes/powersaver I have to tick one of three options (time/date, text or animation). Whichever is ticked I get at least the clock in powersaver mode. Events show under the date (or text if you choose text) so keypad locked has a symbol, missed calls have a number (of missed calls) and a symbol and so on.
However I have also noticed the screen is totally blank after a while and pressing a button starts the powersaver cycle again - briefly showing the dark main screen (including missed call message etc) before showing the clock with the symbols for a short while again. The time it takes to enter powersaving mode is in the display settings but I can't see a setting for how long it shows for.
Why the clock etc doesn't stay I do not know - I presume even this would eat the batteries more than strictly necessary. I can't see any option to keep it but it may there somewhere!!

  • Early 2013 15" rMBP (LG) Screen and Power Save Problems

OK, so the first frustration is that I have this new 15" rMBP set to never sleep while on power.  I routinely come back to it, only to find that I am logged out and all of my apps have been closed.  Very annoying.  But now also this:
Only way to solve is to close lid and re-open or reboot.  Do you bright folks think this is firmware/software related or is it because I lost the lottery and got an LG screen?

When you say NEW what do you mean by that? If it is older then a couple of weeks it really isn't NEW, at least the way I think (New is I bought it yesterday to several days ago). If it is less then 14 days old take it back and return it for a full refund. Apple has a 14 day No Questions Ask Return Policy for Full Refund. Then buy another that may work correctly.
If older then 2 weeks then the only thing you can do it take it to Apple and have them fix it, if possible, or replace it with one that works correctly.

  • AP1252 in dual radio mode with in-line power.

    Hi,
Has anyone actually managed to deploy the AP1252s in dual radio mode and been able to power via a POE device?
The information regarding max power supplied is misleading.
For example, the 6500 802.3af POE line cards appear to only provide a max of 16.8W (from the 12.2.33SXH2 release notes).
The 4500E with the new enhanced POE line cards can apparently provide 20W with 12.2.44SG release.
The 3560E/3750E documentation is contradictory - early bulletins state support for Enh POE and then the more recent notes state that it is not supported.
Any real world experience of this issue would be greatly received.
    Thanks

What you have here is correct. 6500 with a sup720 and 12.2.33shx2 will only provide max of 16.8W. The E-Series can provide the 20W max as long as you have the correct code.

  • Some observations in power saver in E71

    I have observed the following:
    1. If the any power saver other than the blank screen is running, and the key pad is also locked, and then you press the D-pad central button, it shows the date, time and some other info in large font (as expected). But once the button is de-pressed, it does not return the power saver, but shows blank screen.
    2. Breathing light works only with blank screen as power saver, or if one reaches blank screen, as mentioned in the first point.
Any comments on this? In my opinion, for point 1, it should have returned to the power saver set up originally, instaed of the blank screen. The second point seems ok though, though it woould be good to have breating light in all the power savers.
    Regards,
    BK76

Yup, I concur with tobiasrieper. if you have breathing lights off, it will return to the power saver.
Anyways, hopefully some consistency will be introduced in the future firmwares. Also, it may be a good idea to link the breathing light to the power saver option, rather than profile settings. However, this is more subjective, and depends on personal preference!!

  • Power Save Mode - how to disable

My new Pavilion laptop (model # 17-e123cl) is connected to an external monitor.  When I fold down the laptop screen the power saver mode kicks in and the computer goes off.  I want it to stay on so I can place my wireless keyboard on top of the Pavilion and use the big external monitor.  I was able to do this on my old Gateway but apparently not on this HP.
Is there a way to disable the power saver mode when it is closed so the computer will keep running and I can use the external monitor?

    Hello gary,
Please go to the Options dropdown and choose Edit and remove your Serial # from your post.
Instead, it is more helpful to give your model number and operating system.
What you need to do is go into "Power Options/Advanced settings/Power buttons and lid" and change what happens when you shut the lid.
Here is a video from Microsoft on how to do it.
    Hope it helps.

  • Toshiba Power Saver fatal error 0x51A on Satellite M115-S3094

    Hello,
By the subject, the problem is there. Unfortunately, my computer which is the Toshiba M115-S3094, just recently had a Fatal Error with the Toshiba Power Saver program like 3 days ago. The Toshiba Power Saver not only does not want to work, but it no longer even shows on the taskbar.First, I went to the Power Properties to restore the proram, but to no avail.
Then, I tried uninstalling and subsequently re-installing the program and it still gave me the same problem with the Error: The program will be terminated. Fatal Error 0x51A. So right now, my laptop is not running on the Toshiba Power Scheme but on the common Windows scheme, like Presentation or Portable Laptop.
So I need help to restore the Toshiba Power Saver. I run the Toshiba M115-S3094 with Windows Media Center Edition.

    Hi
The Satellite M115 seems to be a Toshiba US notebook because of the 5 at the end of the number.
In this case you should use the Toshiba power saver from the Toshiba US site. Did you???
Maybe you have used the right Power saver utility, so possibly some registry or any system files keys are damage in such case the new OS installation from the Toshiba recovery CD would be advisable.

  • Firefox 5.0 locks up Ubuntu 11.04 Dell laptop computer after turning off screen to save power - it doesn't allow mouse or keyboard input

After my Dell studio1535 running Ubuntu 11.04 switches to screen saver and then blanks the screen to save power I canl bring back my desktop, but not accept any keyboard or mouse clicks. It will allow courser movement only. The only solution is to power down and re-boot.
This only happens when I leave a window with Firefox 5.0 open. No other software package causes this problem.

  • New LG Monitor Screen Image Keeps Shifting a few pixels left and right / goes into power save mode

I just purchased a new LG Computer Monitor from Best Buy today and hooked it up to my PowerMac computer. Shortly after setting it up, the entire screen image started sporadically shifting left and right a few pixels. And then, at seemingly random times, it'll shut itself down, going into power save mode. I checked the cables to make sure they were secure and they seem to be. Could there be some sort of interference that's causing it? Or would it be the graphics card? My computer is only a couple years old. Please help!

Do you have another computer you can plug the monitor into to test?

  • Nokia 6233 - screen awakes from Power Save / Sleep...

I have Power Save and Sleep Mode on, but ScreenSaver off.
However, the screen often awakes from PowerSave / Sleep (not sure which - manual doesn't describe the difference) and lights up.
This is especially annoying when driving and the Nokia is on a hands-free mount: it's quite distracting, and occurs about every couple of minutes.
It may be that when driving, I'm moving between different signal strengths, and that change to the powersaved screen display activates it again. But it has also happened with the phone in a building.
    Any suggestions welcome

I have exactly the same problem, as do several colleagues. It's also very distracting when it sits on a bedside cabinet, lighting up the bedroom every few minutes in the middle of the night. Sadly I have no suggestion - just want to get this topic higher up the heirarchy so that maybe someone who knows an answer will spot it more easily.

  • Dell 2405FPW stuck in Power Save with MacMini (PPC w/ATI Raedon 9200)

I'm wondering if anyone is having any problems with their Dell 2xxxFPW monitors (specifically the 2405FPW) getting stuck in Power Save mode. This is a known problem with some Dell monitors. More details can be found here:
    http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&messa ge.id=33721
This problem only presented itself when I began to use my MacMini on my 2405FPW. The FAQ clearly states certain problem 'cards', with a generic 'ATI' reference. They recommend upgrading to the latest drivers as this has to be done in order to avoid the monitor getting stuck in this mode again. Needless to say, I ran the fix and it did resolve the issue, but two weeks later I'm experiencing the same problem. I never had this problem when I used my monitor with my Windows desktop.
My question is, is someone at Apple aware of this and is there any type of driver update/fix out there? I'm assuming anything would've already been pushed down via Software Update, and I grabbed ATI's latest Display drivers and apps on their website to no avail. (There's a ROM update, but they specifically mention this does not apply to OEM's).
I might just have to move my Mini to a VGA connection, which I really don't want to do...
MacMini PPC   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Manifisation is random, and I can't link any specific behaviour to the event. I'll be in the middle of reading an email or browsing and the monitor will flicker and just have a 'blank' screen. I can either turn it off/on or wait until the monitor goes into standby and move the mouse. Unfortunatelly its gotten to the point where the monitor just goes 'blank' every minute.
I can run the known Dell fix (a third time), but if something on the Mini is causing this behaviour its pointless to keep trying.
I'm tempted to try using my gf's Dual Core Mini (go figure, she gets the new one and I inherit hers) or just swap her 20" Cinema Display for my Dell 2405FPW

  • N70 Idle / Power Saver Screen

    Hi
    My Firmware version is: v 2.0537.1.7 18-09-05 RM84
I'm on the Orange network (UK)
Is there anyway to adjust/configure the small Date/Time/Call & Message info on the Idle / Power Saver Screen
It's just too small for me to see - It was much bigger & clearer on my Nokia 6100
    Any advice would be appreciated!
    Regards,
    Curly :-)

Do you mean the power saver screen as in when you havent touched the phone for a while then you get the SINGLE HORIZONTAL STRIP across your screen with the date time etc on it which occasionally alters position on the screen?? If this is the one you mean then no you cant make it any bigger nor does the network affect it either, its a nokia thing. If however you mean the Orange home screen date time etc with the icons down the left hand side, then this is network specific to Orange, i have it too, not ideal but you get used to it after a while! I've heard you can get it flashed and revert it to original Nokia settings but this invalidates your warranty and could create more problems with your phone!! I'm gonna put up with it, other than the Orange home screen i'm very happy with my N70. It'll do me another 6 months anyway till i next upgrade!!

  • N95 Screen (power) Saver

    Hi all wise people!
Can anybody help me - how to disable this damn screen saver in N95?? Can only set its time to 90 sec which makes my mobile totally useless while using my GPS application....
Is there any trick or a piece of software? Even in my old N73 I could set the time to 15 minutes which wasn't perfect but still better than **bleep** 90 sec!
Any ideas would be very welcomed....

Ok, Official Answer from Nokia (You’ve got to be kidding me), and SOLUTION that worked for me thanks to cjlim.
Your Nokia N95 device was not manufactured to have the display or keypad lights remain continuously illuminated, unless connected to an installed Nokia car kit.
However, the display light time can extended to 60 seconds. Please follow the provided steps to adjust the display light time for your Nokia N95 device:
    1. Menu > Tools > Settings > General > Personalization > Display > Light time-out > 60 seconds.
Please note that once the 60-second delay has transpired, we recommend quickly pressing the Right or the Left scroll key, which may activate the display light without exiting any menus if keyguard is not active. If the keyguard has been activated, you can turn on the display light by pressing the Power key.
Regarding the power saver feature, your Nokia N95 8 GB device was not designed with the ability to disable the power saver feature. However, the power saver’s time-out may adjust to a maximum time of 90 seconds. Please follow the provided steps to adjust your device’s power saver feature:
    1. Menu > Tools > Settings > General > Personalization > Display > Power saver time-out > 90 seconds
Please note that the screen saver feature cannot be disabled.
We hope that this helps and regret any inconvenience this may cause you.
If you have any additional questions, please contact us. To ensure proper handling, please continue to use the current subject line.
Thank you for choosing Nokia for your mobile needs.
    The Solution:
Download and install Smart2go (thanks cjlim), then go to |Maps|Options|Settings|General|Backlight| and choose |Always On|, the phone no longer enters screen saver mode while using the GPS even when on battery! Sweet!

  • Power save & Screen saver

Problem: When copying lots of files to my network drive, the power save keeps engaging. This keeps crashing the copy process, thus forcing me to delete what got copied and start all over again.
My temporary solution: I'm tired of babysitting the computer by bumping the mouse every few minutes.
How do i make the power save and screen saver aware that i'm coping many gigs of files to my network drive so that it doesn't come on and crash the copying process?
Telling me to disable the power save and screen saver manually isn't a solution. So please don't tell me to do that.

It sounds like you (& maybe some other users) might be confusing the Screen Saver, display sleep, & system sleep functions. My screen saver & then display sleep sometimes kicks in when I'm not using the keyboard or mouse (& both are set below 20 minutes), but any ongoing operations like file copies via the Finder do in fact prevent system sleep from kicking in.
AFAIK, when system sleep does kick in during something like that, it is because the app doing the copy (or whatever) has not registered the process with the OS as one that should not be interrupted and/or it has no provision for an orderly hiatus, like closing any open files with pending changes, before it suspends operation.
Because of that, it might be relevant if you explained how you are copying files to the network drive.
