N80 reception

Hi got a N80 as upgrade to N70, love the phone but have poor reception in lower signal areas compared to other phones, N70 and 6680 can all be together, all on the same network, mine will not collect calls and drop outgoing calls when the others work fine, vodaphone swapped the handset but this has not changed anything, anybody else had this problem.

I think it's the 3g networks that create the problem with reception, if you don't need video calling try running your phone in gsm mode only, somebody at Orange told me that btw.
can you tell me how t do this pls

  • N80 and ridiculous wi-fi reception

Hello. I have a Nokia N80 of which I was quite happy until lately. Despite passing troubles with Nokia not updating online software (I strongly suspect phone firmware's apps are newer) I now get this new one.
The WLan performance is totally unreliable. The WLan scanner on the s60 desktop often finds no WLan at all despite my Netgear DG834G Router is airing a strong signal and the phone be within 1-2 meter in line of sight from the appliance.
The same result is yield from the WLan scanner app. With total signal strenght showing up when it gets it, and no WLan at all when it doesn't get it.
Despite all of that when I connect my router in the same room with Web app. the connection is stable and doesn't fall. In the same time if I were trying WLan scanner it would keep showing at tracts the WLan network.
If I move from the router's room in the adjacent rooms I see at worst 2 of 3 bars signal strenght from the indicator, the Phone though is not able to establish a connection in these conditions, nor is able to see a signal strenght lower than 2/3 even if I get further. Curiously, I accassed someone else's DG834G router config page with 1/3 signal strenght down the street, and realized that only coming back home and checking my router's IP address and internal language.
And last but not least I was not able to connect to regular Wi-Fi hot-spots in public places, with phone showing only occasionally some spot and not managing to get more than 1/3 of signal. Connection was impossible in any case.
Could please someone clarify on Nokia N80 wi-fi capabilities ? Is it any good ? What is the typical yield of this unit ? Is it possible to see wi-fi networks and not being able to connect them for the lower performance of the internal antenna or would the N80 just prevent to show wi-fi networks when the spot wouldn't be in the radiation's design power coverage ?
Is there a way to adopt for troubleshooting wi-fi complications ?
Sorry for being so tedious, and thank you in advance for any help provided.

    Hi m80116
I presume that your phone is an N80 not N80IE, if the latter this post may have been of interest:

I notice that this setting is not present in "advanced settings" in my N80.

  • N80 Bluetooth has stopped working?

    Hi
I was using my N80 3g Connection via bluetooth for my laptop. This was working fine no problems. I lost the signal due to bad reception then I found that since this time I can not get my bluetooth to work. The small icon on the screen says that it's on, but the blue light is no flashing. I have tried to turn off bluetooth and back on but still no joy. Turned phone off and on, but still no joy.
The phone can not find any other bluetooth device nor can any other device find my N80.
Any help would be very much appricated as bluetooth is very vital to me!

    Maybe I should read

Are you absolutely sure your phone is 'discoverable' in the settings? Because it sounds like your phone is set to hidden mode, in which it can initiate and keep open connections, but it can't be found by other devices.

  • N80 Battery life

the battery is new and original (authentication already checked) but it is not lasting for more than 1.5 day with sleep mode, blutooth off, power saver etc... my friends, i have paid more than US$635 for this device last week and i have found so far many problems...

    Hi Steve,
You're not alone. BTW, think this is in the wrong section. ;P
Anyway, I noticed that the battery will reach its full capacity only sometime after week 2. At this point, if you use it only as a phone with minimum SMS and good network reception, the batt may last 3+ days. I read about someone who claims up to 5 days, but most will last 2+ days. Under normal utilisation (i.e. you start to use features of N80 like browsing and e-mailing via WiFi, camera usage, music playing, gallery viewing, etc), it should last over a day and that's about it.
In any case, be prepared to do a daily charge of your batt.
    Good luck. Cheers. ^_^;

Thanks a lot pfloding for your input. It seems though to be a different problem - your phone suddenly drops quality of 3G and WLAN communications. I would definitely have contacted Nokia or whoever sold you this baby ‘cause from what you describe it looks faulty to me.
I don't think it is a hardware problem, as battery life, 3G reception and WLAN suddenly works much better. My guess is that something in the WLAN implementation causes the phone to go into some kind of fruitless loop, wasting battery and interfering with 3G. I have turned of the WLAN setting "Show availability" now (WLAN works fine anyway), and so far things seem better!

  • The N80, T9 and a new message hint...

Good afternoon, and as usual, sorry if this question has already been addressed, but I cannot find much about it on the forum.
Basically, i'm currently on my first Orange N80 (3.0617.0.6)and to be honest, it's a love/hate relationship.
When the phone works well, it's simply the best piece of kit on the market as far as i'm concerned. However, the inability to answer calls sometimes, creates pure frustration (Phone just freezes with the phone symbol ringing, while my customers have been diverted to voicemail. Phone then requires a reboot).
I am also experiencing bizarre bugs which i've not seen mentioned before, eg: when receiving a text message whilst on a call, the loudspeaker is activated automatically and a 'beep beep' almost deafens me. Also, anyone around me can hear my conversation between the beeps!
Anyway, back to my original point. T9, and it's assumption of words you may use. I actually don't usually add words to the dictionary, as unlike my previous SE K750i, you can't review what's been added and remove the unecessary. My major gripe, is that INX comes before HOW, and has done pretty much since I got the phone. Is there anyway you guys know of, to ensure HOW is the first word that comes up? I've tried adding HOW again, but to no avail. There are some other words that do this, but they've currently escaped my memory... Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Finally, I just wanted to say that if some of you are still struggling to read the tiny writing font for messages, i've started using notepad to create and then send as normal. No big breakthrough, but it is an alternative!
    Cheers,
    Ed

One really annoying problem I've found just lately with my N80 is when answering an incoming call, the phone will not activate the loudspeaker during a received call - wierd. Btw, I'm on Orange with 3.0617.0.6 variant firmware. Can anyone (mod's included) give me a good reason why I cannot have the Nokia generic firmware flashed onto my phone, it shouldn't invalidate the manufacturers warranty and if Orange say their warranty is invalidated so what? We still have basic manufacturers warranty for 12 or 18 months or whatever it is. I've never particularly liked the Orange software anyway but I get superb reception evrywhere when at work where as o2 and Vodafone etc struggle for reception so that's why I stick with 'em.

  • Everything connects to my wifi except my n80 !

Can anyone help me connect my N80 to my wifi network?
All my other quipment connects without a problem - laptop, PSP, PDAs etc but I'm getting nowhere fast with my phone.
I have followed instructions in the manual and on this forum but the phone still won't connect. I have defined an access point and entered my WEP password etc but it still won't connect. It sees my network but I get a "NO GATEWAY REPLY" error.
    It really frustrating!
    Chris

    Hi Footman,
It meant that it cannot resolve the hostname you provide. E.g. www.google.com would resolve to IP 66.249.89.99.
This could meant one of the following:
    1. You didn't configure your WLAN setting on N80 properly. (Which I don't think so.)
    2. There's a problem with the browser or N80. E.g. I found out that N80 doesn't work in a EAP-LEAP environment. Some folks in this forum found that WPA works for them, but not WEP, and vice-versa. Try out different combinations.
    3. The reception isn't strong enough. Strangely, I had encounter this in public hot spots. Solves the problem by moving closer to the location of the router.
    4. Somehow, the details DNS server wasn't given to N80. Reported here once, but I didn't see any solution for it eventually.
    Good luck. ^_^;

  • Which has better WLAN reception: E51 or E61i

i was astonished with the great wlan reception auality of the E51 (compared to the weak n80ie w could not detect any wlan while same time e51 detected 3 networks!!!!?????)
and i wonder if the e61i have the same good wlan reception as e51 or better or worse??
i prefer the e61i to buy but i am afraid of its wlan reception quality being a dissapointment as my n80
i would be grateful if somebody help me

Most Nokia Wlan enabled phone uses the same WIFI(rcvr/trxtr) chips, it's the placement of its antenna & facia of the phone that hampers the transmission & reception!
Knowledge not shared is knowledge wasted!
If you find it helpfull, it's not hard to click the STAR..

  • Wlan on N80 problems!

Hi! I have noticed some problems with the N80s Wlan capabilities! Sometimes i have no problem what so ever to connect to a Wlan, i just choose the connectionpoint from the list connecting to a webpage and it connects. However, several times now it wont connect. I choose the connection point and it tryes to connect, but after a few seconds i receive a error message where it says something like; the wlan could not be found! This happens both when there is a WEP encryption (and i have the key) and also where there is no encryption. I have tried this on atleast 10 different W-lan networks, the only one that worked was my neighbours, until he put on WEP encryption
The other networks have been in town in different malls and cafe´s and so on and have all been free networks to use. So my question is, is there any easy way to configure the phone to be receptive to most Wlans or do i as a connecting user have to set up each connection point manually, even if i dont know what the settings should be? I could include that i have called nokia about this, and not very surpricingly they told me that they can only inform me about the basic phone settings, everything else such as connecting to a Wlan, have to be done by my self, gahh!
    Cheers all!

Just out of curiosity, remove the security from your router and see if the N80 sees it.

  • Problems with dropped calls and no reception on Samsung Continuum

My mother and I both purchased a Samsung Continuum in late March 2011, and have experienced the same problems with the phone.  The device drops at least 2-3 calls per day, often on the same conversation; we have not found that location or time of day makes a difference.  The phone freezes up frequently, even if no apps are running in the background.  We lose our 3G network reception frequently, and cannot access our texts, emails, or the internet.  The screen saver kicks in even when we are actively dialing a number, or typing in a text message.  The overall performance of the phone is also poor, and it is quite slow much of the time.
We have raised this issue several times with a representative at one of the Verizon stores, but he states that he can find no problem with the phone, and that these issues may not be covered under our insurance plan.  None of my friends with non-Samsung phones are having the same problems with phone reception and performance.  I am aggravated enough with these issues that I am considering reactivating my old Blackberry, which worked like a charm.
I am not upset that my phone has not been updated to Android 2.2.  I just want the phone to perform as stated, and not fail at its primary function:  making and receiving phone calls.  I am not certain if these problems originate with the phone, Verizon, or Samsung, nor do I care.  I just want to resolve these issues as soon as possible, or I will have to look at other alternatives.
    Thank you.

If this doesn't work...now what??? I have a useless $400 plus piece of unreliable junk. My Motorola Razor was ions more reliable than this phone...very, very sad but true.
What carrier were you using with the Razor? AT&T? Same area?

  • Iphone 5S - low reception at home

Hello all. I've had iphone 4 and 4s and now the 5s. I never had problems before with my reception at home. However, once i removed myself from the family plan, during my 4S, my signal strength at home went from 5 to 3(that's at best). Now on the 5S, im down to 1 or 2 bars. I already spoke with verizon and did a reset several times to no avail. I have voice and data roaming enabled - WHAT DO I DO?! And no im not buying the extender, thats just crazy.

I appreciate you testing that out for us! Since it is only in your home and the case didn't change your experience, it does appear to be interference caused by your house. This can occur for a variety of reasons like building material for example! Due to uncontrollable circumstances like this, VZW is unable to guarantee service indoors. Different models of devices may have different experience in the same area like you're experiencing. Since this isn't happening in other locations, it does not appear to be a device issue.
I know you mentioned previously you're not interested in a home solution. A network extender is an option in this situation however. Please feel free to check out the details here: http://vz.to/T2BjUO

  • 'To turn on IR reception' option not showing up in security

My remote for my iMac is not working. I originally thought it neeeded a new battery but that was not it. I had a power outage the other night and since then have been noticing the problem.
    The apple support says;
    'To turn on IR reception:
Open System Preferences and click Security.
Deselect "Disable remote control infrared receiver.'
When I go to system preferences and then security, the option to 'disble remote control infrared receiver' does not show up.
Yesterday I restarted and the option came back, this morning after turning my computer on it wasn't there again. Any idea how to resolve this problem for good?
    Thank you
    Dan

again i'm pretty desperate here does anyone have any clue how to fix this or atleast what is causing it?

  • Poor reception on Treo Pro

My wife's Treo Pro gets terrible reception in places where the reception on my Palm Pre is fine. Is there anything she can do to improve reception and stop dropping calls? What is the latest firmware/software that she should be on?
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

Has your wife had sprint service for a long time? If so Sprint may need to do a network reprovision on the account. If that does not resolve the issue it could be that the OS or the hardware is not correctly working. If it is the OS a hard reset should fix the issue. If not the device needs to be replaced.
The device had no updates out for it. Also to be sure this is a Sprint device correct?
If you have any more questions please post back.

    Hi,
My other half owns a N80 and he deleted something on his phone and now when he goes into media player it says there are no tracks. All the songs are in his track library but you have to manually select which songs to play instead of playing them all.
Is there a way of getting the media player to find the songs?
    Thanks, Carrie.
