Hi
My N80 refuses to acknowledge that there is a firmware upate for it. I'm currently running;
V4.0623.0.42
Code No 0535061

Hi quiggers
NSU reads the 7 digit product code on label under battery and dictates what update if any available. As your phone was Orange originally it looks for the most recent ORANGE software available.
I made a similar mistake with Vodaphone N70 which like you had generic firmware installed by service centre, but when I used NSU to update it all the Vodaphone branding returned!

The software version is dependent on the product code, so if you are told that you have the no update is available then you have the latest SW version for your product code.
Apart from the fact that product codes are usually unique to a country (and in some cases to a network operator), you shouldn't have any issues regarding your region.

  • When is the next NOKIA N80 software update coming?

hope the next n80 software update comes soon, with support for voip, improvements for camera,& certain bug fixes.Message Edited by rishabhsin on 11-Feb-2007

N80s, even with the latest firmware are bug ridden and reboot themselves from time to time. Nokia know about the bugs because they have fixed some of them in the N80IE firmware. I have no idea why they can't get their act together and release the fixed firmware for the N80 owners.. It's IDENTICAL hardware. Many people are "voiding their warranty" and converting N80 to N80IE versions. This is because Nokia will not sort it out "officially".

  • N80 firmware updates

Hello all... this is my first post in this discussion...
i have a problem with my N80 ... i just updated its firmware today from v3 to v5 using Nokia Software Updater... evrythng run smooth (so far..) .... however the only problem ive encountered is it wont detect any wireless network... even i try keep the closest range to the wireless still it wont detect .. can somebody help me on where did i go wrong??
thanks and hoping to get a very quick reply

Is it just with the one wlan or have a you tried a few. If it is with all wlan's then I would suggest reinstalling the update  or resetting the phone. I updated my own N80 to V5 almost 2 years ago now and had no problems and it is still working well.

  • N80 Firmware Update

When is it coming out NOKIA ?

I was told by the engineer at my local service centre that there had been 10 updates for my N80, from the firmware that was on the phone. Whether thats the O2 firmware or Nokia he didn't say as obviously each network has their own additions and fixes here and there for the firmware. But either way something can't be going right with it as my phone has the latest firmware that everyone has been mentioning (UK). I'm having to send my N80 back though as the stupid phone wont let him install the updates as it wouldn't respond to him trying to install them. O2 have messed me around by telling me I'll get my replacement on friday, to later get an email saying its out of stock! Will try find out, when I pick up my phone from the service centre, what the latest version of firmware they have available though.

  • N80 firmware update question...

I think I have read this in other posts but am unsure how valid it is...
I have several N80 handsets 2 of which were Vodafone UK but have subsequently been unlocked by Vodafone.
The firmware versions are both v4.0623.0.41
    26/02/06
    RM- 92
    NOKIA N80 (42.03)
IF I take these to have their firmware updates done, does that then mean that they will revert back to being locked to the Vodafone network or does it stand that once a handset is unlock/network free that it remains as such?

    hi jg01
    There are two issues here:
Firstly once unlocked a BB5 remains unlocked.
Secondly because they have a "Vodaphone" product code (label under battery) if you use Nokia Software Updater it will check which is the latest Vodaphone release software for your phone (not the latest generic software)
Nokia Service Centres used to be happy to upgrade with latest generic (non-operator branded) software, but I am not sure whether they have tightened up procedures now and insist on like for like software. I am sure somebody else will give you the definitive answer!

  • Nokia N80 Firmware Update

    I have a Nokia N80 (RM-92), with firmware v. 3.0617.0.6
When I go to Nokia Software Updater it says that don't exist any update.
I wanted to know how can I update my firmware to N80ie V 4.0707.0.7
    Thanks...
    PS: Sorry my bad english.

Your firmware is probably from some operator.See if there are some personalization related to your network, like a theme, a screensaver, an image that appears at startup, etc.
The trend is latest firmwares are always available first for unbranded firmwares (aka generic).Depending your country and operator, it's possible a new firmware never becomes available.
It's bad, but true. That's why it's better if you could afford unbranded phones

  • N80 software update problems

I'm having a nightmare trying to update the software! Just bought this N80 on ebay and everytime I try to send a text the phone freezes. It won't turn off or anything, so the only thing I can do is to take the battery out. When I restart it, it hasn't sent or saved the message. I checked the sftware and it's 3 years old.
I have spent hours & hous trying to update it and got nowhere! First of all I didn't have a USB cable, so bought a USB cable, but it didn't seem to work. I cleaned the contacts and it's now working, but I can't get the software to update. I'm getting this message:
Configuration error -Nokia has detected a configuration error. Configuration error
There are a number of possible solutions for configuration errors.
    1. Please make sure your firewall and anti-virus software settings allow Nokia Software Updater to function.
The Nokia Software Updater applications can be launched separately, connecting directly to the Nokia servers. If there is a firewall between the Nokia
Software Updater application and Nokia's servers, the firewall needs to be configured as follows:
Port 62716 over TCP: Used for communication between Nokia Software Updater and Nokia Services servers.
Application nsl_host_process.exe: Used for connection between Nokia Software Updater and Nokia Services servers.
    2. Check whether the ports used by NSU are in use by other applications.
Nokia Software Updater uses port 62716 over TCP. You can perform a port scan on machines, specifying predefined port ranges. One port scanning application is FreePortScanner, which you can download by following this link. This tool uses TCP packets to identify available hosts and open ports, services associated with these ports, and other important characteristics.
Step 1: Close Nokia Software Updater.
Step 2: Run the FreePortScanner application.
Step 3: Specify the following scan parameters:
In the IP Address field, type the localhost address 127.0.0.1
Make sure Show Closed Port is not ticked
In TCP Ports, enter the range 62700 - 62750
Step 4: Press the Scan button.
You will be provided with a list of all open port numbers on your machine.
If port 62716 is being used by another application, you should change the port number to range 62700 to 62750.
Step 1: Click Start, selecting Run.
Step 2: When the Run dialog box appears, type \Program Files\Common Files\Nokia\Service Layer\A and press the OK button or ENTER on your keyboard.
Step 3: Edit the file nsl_config.cfg in Notepad.
Step 4: Replace 62716 in the line <root_port>62716</root_port> with an unused port number from the range 62700 to 62750.
Step 5: Save your changes and close the file.
    Start Nokia Software Updater.
    3. Disable network connection sharing (administrator rights required).
Step 1: Click Start in the taskbar and go to Control Panel.
Step 2: Click Network Connections. In the new window that opens, select your network connection. This can be a dial-up, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), or cable broadband connection. Right-click your network connection's icon, scroll down, and click Properties. Then click on the Advanced tab.
Step 3: Untick the box next to Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection, in the Internet Connection Sharing section.
Step 4: Click OK > OK to close the Control Panel window.
    4. Reinstall the Nokia Software Updater application.
    Can anyone help? Cheers!

Also everytime I turn my PC on, I get a Found new hardware wizard message. When I go to add new hardware, it never works and I get this message: Cannot start this hardware.   There was a problem installing this hadrware -Nokia Windows portable device driver. This device cannot start (code 10).  I've chekced my Forewall and thats all OK, but it lets me know anyway before blocking anything.
Can no-one help? If I can't sort this I'm going to have to send the phone back and maybe open a dispute on ebay, but I ned to do it soon, as it's beena few weeks since I got it, as had to wait for a smi card, then the USB, then seberal days of trying to sort this out!

  • Orange N80 Software Update

I have one of the first N80's released by Orange with firmware v3.0614.0.3. When I went to update it recently, it said there was no updates available.
I'm sure that recent N80's from Orange have a newer version, so why is it not available to download on the NSU. It must have been approved by Orange, otherwise it wouldn't already be on their phones.
Any thoughts.Message Edited by blackrain on 10-Oct-2006

HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just received this from Nokia: Dear Mr Segal Thank you for contacting the Nokia Customer Care Team. With regard to our conversation on 9th October 2006, I can advise that after contacting our Local Office and investigating with Orange direct, the software version of V4.0623 has now been approved, however, as stated previously, it can still take upto 6 weeks before Club Nokia Service Points will have this available for updates to be applied. Furthermore, as advised previously, Nokia Corporation cannot guarantee that the Third Party GPS module you intend to use after the update will be compatible with the newer software, regardless of the information provided at time of purchase, and would therefore advise you to contact them, after the update, if you have any further issues with compatibility. Please don't hesitate to contact us again if you have any further questions. Yours sincerely
It appears that Orange OKed the software on Friday and now it will take 2-3 weeks to integrate the software modules together plus some more time, for an undisclosed reason, to get it out to us.

  • The Nokia N80 "Software Update"

When i was chosing my new nokia phone i was quite amazed by all the Nokia N80's feature which are all amazing by the way. But i had the phone for about 3months when the screen just suddenly went blank. The reason for the was a so called " software update " that has to be done. The phone was claerly on as all the sounds and options was working. I just want to know will this happen again? When, how long, and exactly why does this happen. It was sent in to nokia Johannesburg SA where i was told i have to wait 4-6 weeks for the return of my cellphone. Please this is really making me want to go back to samsung. The N80 was treated normally as is required.

On the contrary it could be the firmware as the older firmware for the n80 was quite unstable it seems that v4 firmware works well try to upgrade to that version if the problem continues then you know its the phone

  • Nokia N80 Firmware Update Question - Looking for F...

    Hi,
I've been looking for the latest Nokie N80 internet edition firmware. I know that the firmware version 5.0719.0.2 has been released but when I try to update my phone using Nokia Software Update program it tells me that my phone has the latest version.
My phone firmware version is V 4.0623.0.42, released 20/09/2006, RM-92, Nokia N80 (85.01). Does anyone know where and how can I update my phone with the latest version? Thanks.

I have an N80 which I was able to update a few months ago to 4.0632.0.38 (Which added all the Internet and Browser updates provided for the N80IE) then when I heard version 5 was out I tried, but no use, and since then it always says I have the latest version.
I bought a SIM Free model from Expansys UK so it's not a operator issue, not sure why it's stuck on version 4. Emailed Nokia Support a few weeks ago but heard nothing back
    My Product Code is: 0535762
    Phone Type: RM-92
    Model: N80-1
Anyone from NSU team able to help out?
    Thanks,
    Brian.
