Hi, thanks for your reply!
I phoned vodafone up the other day and asked if they could replace it for me, as I was getting no resolve on this matter. The said Yes but it wouldnt be a new one?????
When I managed to pick my jaw up from the floor I asked why? (After all, arent there 12 month warranty's on new phones)
The woman then said they use old internals from other phones with new facias!!! Excuse me???
I think that is disgusting after sales services, and I wonder whether Vodafone have enforced this or Nokia themselves!!
Imagine if fords adopted this style of service with there cars! Yes, it wouldnt happen!!
AND......the woman also said that she couldnt guarantee that the phone would have the updated firmware installed (which is the reason why I want my phone replacing in the first place)
Im sorry, is it me or am I really really missing something?????
Does anyone know where i stand legally on this matter?
Have i got sufficient grounds to end my 18 month contract with them? Because to be honest i want out now!!!
Well I'm not sure of the small print, but, if part of the contract with them was you getting a phone that worked then surely if the phone is little more use than a paperweight then that would be breach of trading standards as it's "not fit for it's purpose" by giving you a second user phone they are making you pay for a 12 -18 month contract on a second hand phone. I'm not sure if you have to accept a second user phone. After all you paid a hefty contract for a new phone. Not one that somebody else has had problems with!.
How would Voda feel if you started messing about with the dates of payment and stuff? They would still be getting paid but not on their terms. You would be in breach of contract but surely they would be too by giving you a second user phone. Tell them you want a new phone not one that has been around the block. Not sure how far you will get but if you keep hassling about this and there is a chance of damage to the Voda name then they may be more "understanding".
I mean if people kicked up a fuss then other "lesser" operators may decide that they will offer new phones as replacements as a sales gimmick to get higher up in the market. Voda wouldn't want that now would they?
Just to summarise, tell voda your not happy and keep making a noise and threaten to go to the papers or something. Nobody likes bad press. Tell them that it is not fit for it's purpose and is therefore breach of trading standards and offering a second user phone is not acceptable as you signed a contract for a new working phone.
Kepp at it bud.
Is that an N95 in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?!?

  • N80 slow-motion ringtone

i have a problem with my n80 which doesnt happen all the time. when i receive a call the ringtone goes funny after a few seconds where the ringtone slows down and seems like its in slow motion. is there any fix 2 this problem as it is annoying. i have the latest firmware for this phone.

Ok so i know what causes this problem. Its when you receive a call on 3G coverage and during the ringtone your coverage changes to a non 3G coverage. Thats when the problem occurs and i have tested it by calling myself and covering the phone with my hand over where the antenna is and this problem occurs.
Anyone with any ideas how to fix this? i have the latest firmware .

  • Nokia N80 Very slow? What's up with it?

Is anyone else haveing the same problem with the OS on the N80-1 being painfully slow? Turning on the N80, it takes about 20-30 to start up. Navigating around the menu system is like using an old megadrive, things pop up as they are loaded, it's as if the processor is too slow (if you know what I mean). I often get screen blocking with parts of the display menus not loading fully or disappearing.
And the one thing that bugs me the most, transfering an image via bluetooth and then straight after the transfer, deleting the image, throws up the Nokia logo white boot screen this then takes about 20 seconds for it to go away and I'm back at the home screen. It does it everytime without fail. Don't get me wrong I love the phone, but me thinks the OS is proper buggie or the phone is way under powered.
Oh and yes, it is on Orange on I have only had it since 26/06/06. Please tell me that Nokia is aware of this and there might be a firmware update (if Nokia do them) to fix these issues?
    Cheers Jordy

If I were you, I'd get in touch with Orange - tell them about the rebooting fault and demand a replacement...
As for the speed... if you're used to standard phones, then all smartphones will seem extremely slow, so don't kick off too much about that.
If there's a firmware update available, then chances are that'd fix it, but you'd need to contact your local Nokia Service Centre to discuss it.
While you're still well within the return period - get it sent back and get a new one! I'm sure most people here would agree.

  • Making a playlist in Music Player on N80

Is there any easier way of doing it? It will not allow me to "mark several" which means I need to highlight each track and choose: Options > Mark/Unmark > Mark.
Coupled with the fact that it brings up a box that displays only two tracks at a time and a huge, pointless icon next to it.
I have a 1GB memory card crammed with music and it can take ten minutes to create a playlist using this slow and tedious method! Surely a better way of doing it would have been to just bring up a page with a list and allow you to press the left soft key to mark the track?
    Nokia N80 - v4.0623.0.41

Not sure if you think this is a huge improvement, but try this:
    Open music player
    Select libary > all tracks
Use the joystick (center keys) to navigate up/down the track list and mark tracks using the pencil icon to the left of the joystick. If tracks have a little tick mark the are marked.
Once your selection is made then
Select > Add to playlist > stored or new playlist.
In general I find the selection a bit tricky and it works best of you are selecting several tracks close to each other in the listing.
    Does this work for you?

  • Updating N80 ie to v5.0719.0.2 firmware

    Hello there,
I'm trying to update the firmware on my Nokia N80 Internet Edition. This mostly due to the USSD problem with the current firmware version 4.0707.0.7. The problem is Nokia Phone Updater won't finish downloading the new firmware (68.9 MB)It gives the following error everytime I try do the update:
    Downloading Update Failed
Nokia Software Updater attempted to download your software but has failed more than three times. This could be because of a poor-quality, slow or intermittent internet connection. This could also be because of problems with our servers.
    Please try again later
Just wanted to know if you're aware of this problem? I was downloading at 25 KB/sec speed which can hardly be considered slow for the region of Africa I've been living in. Somehow I keep getting the failed message after a little while.I think it's just timing out. Wanted to ask if there's a workaround for this?
I was thinking maybe there's a way of increasing the timeout for the download in a settings file, or maybe I can download the new firmware separately and then use the Software Updater application to install it?
I'm quite tech savvy and not scared of detailed instructions.
    Can forum Nokia please help?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thank you NOKIA!
Yes the firware update went great and I can now read USSD messages.
I think the problem was simply the ISP having one of it's frequent problems.
So once the connection picked up so did the update.

  • N80 SMS and Ringtone issues.

    Hi Everyone,
My phone takes too long to send SMS (2 - 3min), my gallery freezes when you revert back to it after editing a picture and the ringtones play when my phone rings, but seconds later it slows down like a broken record!
I have perform the *-3-Green reset, I have had the software updated and the issue is unresolved.
I dont think Nokia knows what to do now except for reloading the firmware. (Theey have reloaded it a total 9 times since I got the phone in July 2006)
Can anyone shine some light, apart from going to another brand?
    My carrier is Vadofone AU.
    Cheers.

  • N80 FREEZING/CRASHING/SLOOOOOOOW

If anyone can help me that would be wicked! Had my N80 for about 12 months now, worked fine when i got it. Now all of a sudden it constantly freezes when i try and go into anything like messages, gallery etc.Its very very slow and crashes and freezes very often. Never used to be like this??
Its got the latest firmware on it but that hasnt made a difference.Installed sms excellerator...that hasnt made a difference. Also, I cannot get the sleep mode to work anymore, it just wont go into sleep mode. Charged it lastnite. Went to bed, never used it for calls etc and by midday the next day battery was dead!!! My contract is up in 3 months. Its doing my head in, 3 months of this!!
Have read about reformating/soft resets ect but im unsure as that would be a last resort?
If anyone could help me that would be very much appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    Neil

soun ds like the phone is running to many stand by apps and is crawling along at a slugs pace
I am assuming that you have done the obvious, take battery and sim out without switching off, leave it ten mins then restart?
if not try that, sometimes if there are stray apps running or the memory has not been released after an operation it throws a wobbler!
If that does not work back up all your contacts etc to the phone and do a hard reset.
WARNING this will rest your phone to how it was new out of the box, i.e. blank absolutely nothing on it but the OS and whatever branding it was firmware'd with.
You will lose all data if not backed up!
Also before doing a full reset remove sim and memory cards.
The hard reset is a sticky at the head of the page of this section ie n series/smartphones.

  • N80 update problem!!!

    Hello,
I need help regarding updating my N80 otherwise it will continue to sleep in the drawer....
I bought an N80 3 days ago but it was really really slow. After reading the forums I learnt that I may update it.
Checked my ver. it was 3.06...
    I installed PC Suite 6.84 and NSU from Nokia site. Then;
PC suite takes ages to connect to my phone via USB original cable from the box. At last it says, found but icon on the bottom left in PCS says no connection, anyway when I click update software via PCs it runs NSU and starts to update.
At first, NSU found latest firmware for my phone is V5.07 and downloaded something like 64.8 MB then started to update my phone on the next step but I never touched the phone or the pc but when the status bar was about %80, suddenly NSU gave the message "connection to phone lost" then on the next step it said, remove the battery then replace then click retry, I did it but then I got the message, update cancelled.
Then when the phone opened it was showing the new version but I think it is not completely updated because when I hit menu button, or multimedia button a blank screen comes, then phone restarts...
I tried to update again and again, always the same...
Do you have any proposal? (I will take to to service this weekend)
    I am using XP SP2
    Thx in advance

    So bad,.
If it was gone completely bad I would have reqeusted you to perform the 3 buttons action.
But it still alive but with the phenomena that are only possible if the SW update is not done properly.
You tried update it again and again.
So, I guess it is the wisest thing to take it to repair centre.
    But before that
you can try a hard reset:
*#7370#. I dont know if yopu already did you.
    But repair centre is safe.

  • Nokia N80(1)

    Hi there
My request is about Nokia N80. I recentely got this phone but I noticed that this phone is a bit slow phone. My point is that does it matter if I upgrade its doftware from the internet. In another words: is it going to be faster if I upgrade its software? Please let me know. Thanking u in advance. HME

Well By Upgrading Your existing bugs will be fixed, but new bugs may creep in. But Thats the way of life , Keep on updating it becomes better.
The question why do you need an N-series, If you have a clear answer and You are a tech crazy, go for an update.
But its just for show off with friends and girl friends then, you dont need an update .. lol...
You can spend that time for better-thing as any disconnection in internet lead to dead N80 and you have to rush to dealer

  • N80 phone locks up when sending SMS

    Hi!
When I first got the phone I had no problems, but lately my phone has started locking up when I send a SMS message. It stays "locked" (nothing works and it doesn't react to pushing any bottons) for 2-3min until it sends the SMS. Anyone has a similar problem? It is very annoying since you can't use the phone during these 2-3 minutes
    I'd appreciate any help

    Hi people,
This may relate to all owners of S60 phones.
If you experience slow OS responses from your phone, it may be that you have too many applications running.
    1. Press and hold the menu key, which will bring up the programs list.
    2. Highlight the application you want to end and press "C"
I recommend ending all applications that are not being used. Please note, DO NOT end the "Standby" application as that refers to your phone.
    Hope this helps.
Also a hard reset solved the problem on mine. Just make sure you have a back up of all the contacts etc and don't rely on the backup phone memory as my N80 doesn't do it. I had to restore using PCSuite.
Oh and you can't end Standby either it doen't do anything.
