  • N81 8GB and maps: internal memory lost!!!!

My brand new N81 8GB has 16MB of free internal memory and somewhat 8GB of free external memory (where internal memory in the phone memory [C drive] and external memory is the memory card [E drive]).
The N81 comes preinstalled with the Nokia Maps software, but no maps are pre-loaded.
According to NOKIA, to upload maps on the N81 you need [STEP 1] first to update the Nokia Maps software ON THE PHONE and [STEP 2] then install and run the Nokia Maps Loader from the computer.
The problem that is reported here has nothing to do with [STEP 2] (which works fine and correctly uploads maps on the N81 external memory) but happens already at [STEP 1].
So, starting with an N81 with 16MB of free internal memory, I connect it to the pc in PC SUITE MODE and I install the Nokia Maps software update, and after installation the phone internal memory goes down to 8MB!!!!!!!!!
So, by simply updating the Nokia Maps software (not even the maps) 8MB of internal memory are lost.
I have tried anything to gain back those 8MB, but could not find any solution. I have even tried with X-plore looking into every single hidden and system folder: nothing!!!!!!!!!
The only way was to do a hard reset of the phone and reinstall all software (or a backup, if you have one).
By the way, the Nokia Maps Loader uploads the maps on the phone even if you do not do the Nokia Maps software update.

Same here, but with a non-8GB N81, and it's internal memory is at 1.3MB!

  • N81 8GB and N-Gage Aplication/Download! Bug

    Hello all,
I'm pretty sure someone else experienced this bug. I tried it in several N81's with different firmware versions. I tried lately with the new version v20.0.056 but it still has the same bug.
Everytime you download something directly to your phone (using download for upgrading nokia maps or using n-gage aplication to download new games), even thou you choose download destination and installation destiation to your 8GB hard drive, a part of your internal memory "goes away". N81 8GB only has 17MB free memory (apart from hard drive), which is very small for such a recent phone, other phones released around the same time (late 2007) have around 60's and 120's MB's.
If you try to upgrade nokia maps through download! and install couple n-gage games, your internal memory goes under 1MB, which causes great instability on the phone performance. Only way to fix it is format your internal memory (using *#7370#) but your nokia maps goes to v1.2 again.
I really hope you can reproduce this bug and fix it. Its really anoying having wireless in a phone but you can't use it to "tweak" your phone due to memory issues.
Hope this information is helpfull to improving next N81 firmware version, regards,

Well, the most cool feature is the animated menu, with fades, similiar to N78 and 6220c. The rest i didn't notice much, n-gage already coems installed and Navi Wheel still doesnt work very good (expectable thou, since it was the first phone to have it).
My N81 is still mainly for music, the rest i'm not using much. The music player has been stable since the 1st FW version and i gotta say, it rocks using with BH-604 =D
By the way, updating your N81 doesnt delete your phone information (at least in most cases ), just backup your information in case your phone doesn't start up after the update.
    Best regards,

  • Complaint about N81 quality and Nokia customer ser...

    Dear All
Firstly I would like to say sorry that this treat maybe post in the wrong place. But I need to complaint about quality of N81 (production in China).
I bought this mobile in April 2009. Around mid of June, some buttons was failed, after that, it called out by itselfs. I sent it to Nokia Care center for repair, that used 10 days for replaced sliding set and format memory including software updated.
7 days after first repaired, all buttons except key pad lock and close button was failed and no responsed. So that, I sent it to Care Center again. This time, they changed "COMBO 768M DDR 1G/ SM/ V21.0.010" (something like analytical system) and formated MMC for me (7 days for repaired). 1 hour after I got it back from Care Center, the same problem occured.
7 days from that day, there are no any information from Care Center. I called them today and got answer that they will chage main board for me. Furthermore there are no due date for receiving my mobile back, due to they need to order that component from oversea T_T.
I need to know that Nokia in other country has problem like this or not? How do they control quality system in production line? How about their Care Center controlling system?
Please be noted that Service Call Center in Thailand is very very hard to connect (seems like it always busy) and I found many complaints in Thailand about this.

If you copy this text, click the "Contact us" button at the top of this page and paste it there ın the message, you might get a reply from Nokia.

  • Everybody with N81 8gb and Firmware 21.0.008

Yesterday I restore my nokia with default settings and what to see. All, or that i know about, bugs are disappear. When start GPS there isn't System Error. And my sound is like it back powerfull.
I don't know but I hope that will work with you.
    Try...
Interesting is that one or two week after this firmware was out, nokia removed 21.0.008 and return to 11.0.045.
I don't know but I'm pleased to see my phone work properly.

For sure, the multitouch is not yet implemented, even in the V30 firmware.
Quickoffice should be in the Office folder, but the V21 has an old version, the new one is on the V30.

  • N81 8GB can there be another memory card working w...

....................................................i wanna know becuz i wanna buy a n81 8GB and thinking of putting another memory card? Is the 8GB hard drive or a memory card. And is there any Wi-Fi?And is the screen bigger than N72? And one of my friends is saying that there is a problem with the buttons(the numbers) like they are messed up and when he puts it in his pocket the button get pressed.
    Nokia N72

the 8gig is internal memory (hard drive) and you don't have a slot for another memory card...only the new n96 has that accessibilty and it has 16 gig internal hard drive...the screen is quite big...and the keys are not a problem 4 me....

  • N81 8GB backup fails

I would very much appreciate anybody's help / feedback in resolving the following issue: I try to backup my N81 8GB using Nokia Suite 3.7.22 (though the problem had already started with previous versions of Nokia Suite), but at the very last stage I get a message "Something's gone wrong" etc (see attachment). I tried re-installing Nokia Suite and the phone's software but the problem persists... I can perform a backup to the phone's internal memory card, but I cannot save the backup file on my PC (in case something wrong with the phone - I cannot locate the backup file on the memory card).
    Any ideas? thanks in advance!

Try to limit your backup, to certain aspects of the phone, and see from what point the backup starts to fail.
This happens sometimes due to a corrupt record in your calendar or in a user file, this way you can see where the problem is, and solve it in another way (in case of calendar for instance, use synchronisation instead of backup)

    Hi everyone,
I have had my Nokia N81 8GB for over three months know and for the last three weeks I haven't been able to send text messages.
I get the follwoing error when I check the details on the error : - "Unable to send message: number of person sending to". If I click on detail I get the following error "General: Memory Full. Close some applications and try again."
What's really stupid is that I have 6 and a half gb free memory and also there is only one application running which is the music player (it cant be turned off of closed from the application list).
I sent it back to nokia and they flashed the phone to it's original settings. I restored the phone to it's original state and I still get the error message.
I have checked the message centre number with 02 and also I have got the latest software from Nokia rthrough the software updater.
ANY ONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHY THIS IS HAPPENING? I NEED HELP AS I HAVE UNLIMITED TEXT AND I CAN'T USE THEM!!
I have an o2 N81 8GB and am equally concerned about memory. I'm just trying to see how full it gets before I get to this situation.
    memory in use: 16mb
    9334 free memory
with messages at 533kb - I've got about 660 messages at the moment.
I've installed fring and opera to the memory card.
Was this one of the N81s that came with FIFA 2008? Scrubbing using *#7370# and then not installing the sis file will clear about 4gb by my reckoning.
If you've downloaded Nokia Maps 2, the sis file sits on the phone memory - i've not found how to remove it yet.
Don't forget to clear the cache after web browsing

  • N81 8gb music problem

hey guys! i have an n81 8gb and is less than a month old..
my problem is, my music player hangs after quite sometime of playing songs.. after 10-15 mins,, the song will just suddenly stop,, and my phone hangs after that.. i thought of having my phone memory reformatted,, i did.. then after a while, i thought my problem was already resolved. but to my surprise, after, i think, more or less half an hour or so, i was faced with the same problem again. the music suddenly stops, and my phone hung and after few minutes,, it will automatically restart.
please help me out, i already installed the latest firmware here in my phone,, v 11.0.045 couple of days before the first hang up happened. hours before i experienced this music stopping, my phone incidentally dropped, so i dont know if that is the reason.. if that is, then why is it that my music player is the only one having a problem? i also thought that it could be another application installed in my phone,, but i already reformatted it and uninstalled the applications i installed before this happened.
i hope someone will reply and help me out with this.. thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I had other problems when i upgraded the firmware, the phone's keypad wouldn't lock when slid down, the phone doesn't change to the PC suite, data mode, or print mode & all. Its like it got a mind of its own & will work depending on its mood, just 2 days back my phone suddenly started working fine. i had installed lots of 3rd party application on it but i am sure that the problem have started only after i have upgraded my phone with the new firmware, because the problem only started after the upgrade.
This wasn't the 1st, i had 5300 previously which also stared acting weirdly after the firmware upgrade (the mini USB spotted working after the phone's restarted on completion of the upgrade). When I took it to the Nokia service station they kept it with them for 1 month & later replicated it with a new one after writing serval mails & Branch Managers for weeks.
That was one of the most worst experience i had with Nokia ever.
I think its best to leave the phone with the firmware it comes with.
I spoke to the Nokia Support here in India & all they had to say is that they are sorry if the phone has gone bad due to the firmware upgrade.

I think the OP means the network unlocking code so that the phone can be used on networks other than the one that provided it in the first place.
I do believe that it is indeed the case that 3 failed attempts to enter the code does result in the phone being locked, meaning a trip to a Nokia care point to have it re-flashed, but don't quote me on that. I'm not 100% sure.

  • Problems with Nokia Photos (Lifeblog)

I have been using Lifeblog 2.5 on my PC running on Windows XP sp2 for more than 2 years and was very pleased with how this software worked. I regularly used it to transfer both photos and videos from my N80 and N95 to my pc. When Lifeblog was premium software I paid for the full version.
I had a problem with my PC and had to perform a destructive recovery on the C drive of my pc. I then tried to download the Lifeblog program again from Nokia only to be met with a SORRY greeting. So i was able to find the Nokia Photos software which I downloaded and installed. I then imported my Back up files from Lifeblog.
The problem with Nokia Photos is Videos do not play. Only SMS and Photos can be viewed even though I have ticked all the boxes.
I think that Nokia must have some problems with Lifeblog and Nokia Photos. Any help as to how I may be able to get it to work as well as it was before would be greatly appreciated.

  • Using Nokia Photos... E71... Not Synchronising SMS...

    Good Evening All!
I've recently upgraded my N95 to an E71, and made the change from LifeBlog to Nokia Photos - as the E71 doesn't support LifeBlog...
After several attempts of letting Nokia Photos convert the LifeBlog database (of over 64,000 itmes), I gave up and decided to start it from scratch.
I've got Nokia Photos synching photos from my E71, but not SMSs, MMSs or Sound Clips - which is the main reason I'm using it...
If anyone can suggest where I may be going wrong, I'd be extremely grateful...
    Other information:
It's not a connection issue, as the phone is connected and Nokia Photos recognises it.
I've got the latest version of Nokia Photos, and tried reinstalling it.
The firmware version on the E71 is: 100.07.76
There is no profile set in the Sync folder on the phone as there as for LifeBlog on the N95, not sure whether that makes any difference.
    Nokia History: 3110, 5110, 7110, 7110, 3510i, 6210, 6310i, 5210, 6100, 6610, 7250, 7250i, 6650, 6230, 6230i, 6260, N70, N70, 5300, N95, N95, E71, E72
Android History: HTC Desire, SE Xperia Arc, HTC Sensation, Sensation XE, One X+, Google Nexus 5

Nokia Photos can handle only the videos and images. All other stuff is handled by PC Suite for backup and viewing purposes - except the sound clips which can be synced by Nokia Music. Unfortunately, there is no Nokia solution for all-in-one for SMS, clips and images.
