N81 8GB - Home Media problem

Hi
I'm having some problems with the home media function in N81.
When I access Home Media, the phone just keeps searching for media servers and can't find any of them.
I know the problem isn't in the media servers (I have a winamp media server and a wmp 11 media server), because it used to work fine and I can still access both of them through my ps3.
I don't think the problem is in the router, because my ps3 is also connected through wlan.
I have tried reseting the original settings on the phone and reconfiguring the connection, but it stays the same.
Any ideas?

Where are you trying it? Because it does not work in all menus. Try the Media Menu. If it does not work there, then it's not good...

  • N81 8gb Software Update problems (bad!)

hi i have an N81 8gb phone, great phone but now, its as good as a paper weight, heres whats goin on, the 1st time i updated the software everything was fine and the update went smooth after a few months of use and heavy download (i mean 8GB! a lot of **bleep**) i decided to reinstall the software and start clean slate, so midway into the update the phone just froze and the status bar wasnt moving, and i thought to myself 11 mins seems forever, scary! after an hour i decided to just push some buttons just maybe to "wake up " the phone, but to no avail, man, i was like ok, so i pulled the plug and took out the battery and when i restarted my computer and clicked on the update program, it said i have to reinstall the SOftware and what not. but the problem is everytime it reaches 11 mins left it would spit out an error message saying phone connection lost, then i would have to do it again, after 5 days of trying to update, still the same. 11 mins to me now is a nightmare. PLease help or advise,

    hi,
    can you try this:
    1) Remove the battery, and then wait for about 20 min or so before putting it back
    2) Press and hold these three keys together -Green dial key, Star key[*], Three key [3]
    3) switch ON the phone.
    4) Do not let go the three keys until you see the WELCOME screen displayed and just let it complete the boot process
if that doesnt help you at all, you better run to the nearest nokia care point

  • N81 8gb Windows media player

The N81 8gb comes with the Real Player but it cant read all the different files. Is it possible to install windows media player or a software that can read formats such as WMV, AVI, MPG, etc?
    Thanks in advance

No. There is no version of windows media player for nokia phones.
The N81 can't do WMV but it can do the other formats with the help of 3rd party software.
The program you need is core player. It's not cheap so you way want to convert the videos into a format that the phone can understand instead.

  • N81 8GB MAIN MENU PROBLEM!!! HELP PLS!!!!

I've had the nokia n81 8gb for 1year + now and just last night after transferring data from my computer the main menu got all messed up, all the folders were gone and the applications were all over the place on the main menu, the only folders left is this "Demo" folder and the "Tools" folder.
    Pls help me fix this
    Thanks in advance

Try these steps one by one:
    1. Take out your battery and SIM after turning off your device. Put everything back in after 5- 10 minutes and turn on the phone.
    2. Restore Factory settings: Type *#7780# at the standby screen.
    3. Format phone memory (WARNING: This might result in loss of data in the phone memory, so back up the contents in your phone memory using PC Suite before you proceed): Type *#7370# at the standby screen.
Note that the default lock code for Steps 2 and 3 is 12345 unless you've changed it at any point.
    Hope this helps. Good luck

  • Nokia N81 8gb boot up problem

I need help to get my phone working again. I was listening to music and as i skipped a track the phone froze up, so i tried turning it off but the screen just went black. So i took the battery of to try and restart it but it just lights up and display the nokia logo and stops there. its just freeze at the logo. So any help will be great

Possibly in the hardware (a battery or a capacitor of some sort, that keeps the clock in time, or something related to that circuitry, is broken). A Nokia repair center should be able to fix it.

  • How to delete a corrupt software from your N81 8GB

    Hello all.
I'm new to this and i was just wondering if anyone could help me.
I need to delete or remove a corrupt software on my N81 8GB.
The problem is that nothing is working and i don't want to format my mass memory.
Though if formatting is my only resort how can i back up my mass memory and keep my data safe?
Any other way to remove it?
    Anything is appreciated
    Thanks in advance

Download Nokia PCSuite 7.1.18.0 and Nokia Software Updater 1.4.85 from Nokia site, then install NPCS first. Connect phone. Then NSU. After that make a memory backup, first on your memory card, next by Content copier from NPCS. After this Open NSU and follow commands.
But after backup memory you can try to soft reset by dialing *#7370# this reformat your phone and restor software as from factory, but with latest software, if you updated.

  • N81 8GB Phone memory is not available !!!

I am using N81 8GB. So far I know brand new N81 8GB has 16MB of free internal memory and somewhat 8GB of free external memory (where internal memory in the phone memory and external memory is the memory card.
Last three months it was asking me “Phone Memory” is out of space whereas I used only 2GB out of 8GB mass memory.  I installed everything in Mass memories. Recently it was asking me , Phone memory is not available. I used “OVI suite” with  cable and found 24MB already used 0(zero) space available. Then I deleted all programme, music, video and  and others from “Mass memory”  and formatted it. Even deleted everything except default program. Then I flashed the Mobile from OVI update suite. Version has changed but found 21MB is occupied out of 24MB. Now tell me what’s the solution to free the spaces?
I can’t receive more than 3 or 4 music (small) files via Bluetooth. It asks me to free the inbox space. So far I had total 10 text message (SMS) in inbox. Why it should ask me whereas I have enough memory( 6GB) in “Mass Memory” ?
    Is there any solution?

After contact address sync from OVI.com , Now Phone memory is

    16.9MB free
    total = 24.4 MB
Usefull help for N95 and N81 codes:

  • Problems using TimeMachine from two Macs to IOMega Home Media Drive

    Hi,
This has been driving me crazy for a couple of weeks now, so I'm hoping that someone here can point me in the right direction.
I have a PPC G5 and my wife uses an iMac. I recently bought an IOMega Home Media Drive and wanted to use it with TimeMachine. I set up the G5 and got that working, but when I tried to add my wife's iMac I've had nothing but problems.
I tried resetting the IOMega back to factory defaults, deleting and then re-creating the backups folder, using usernames and passwords or a guest account, and nothing seems to work. I occasionally do something that breaks it on the G5 (running 10.5.8) but I have been able, for the most part, to get it working again, but it's never worked from my wife's iMac (running 10.6.2).
I even tried creating the sparsebundles by hand and copying them in which seemed to work on the G5 but not on the iMac. I thought that the problem might be trying to back up two systems to the same share, but I'm not sure how to split them. Is there a way to create separate backup shares on the IOMega (which seems to connect using AFP even though I've seen references to SMB in some of the forums) so that each system would use its own? Is there a general problem when trying to back up two Macs to the same network share?
The error that I tend to get is that the "backup volume is read only". On the iMac the current error I'm getting, after creating the hostname.sparsebundle image (oddly enough when TimeMachine tried creating it yesterday it dropped the MAC address...not sure why), is: "/Volumes/backups-1/hostname.sparsebundle could not be created (error 45)."
Any help would be greatly appreciated, this has been very frustrating.
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi,
You don't want to hear this, but Time Machine does not back up to network drives, except Time Capsules or a shared drive on another Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard on the same local network. It will often back-up to a USB drive connected to an Airport Extreme, but even that is, technically, unsupported, and may require running a special Terminal command to make it work.
    Here's the official word: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1733
You may find some hardware or "hacks" that might make it work, in some cases, to a degree. But use them at your own risk.
First, since this is *unsupported by Apple,* there's nowhere to go when there's trouble.
Second, you're risking a future update preventing it from working, and perhaps rendering your backups useless.
No guarantees, of course, but this might help: https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/iomegana_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=22012&p_created=1246919828&p_sid=KBbtj nNj&p_accessibility=&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PWRmbHQmcF9 ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTEwLDEwJnBfcHJvZHM9MTAzMSwxMDQzJnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0yLjE wNDMmcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF9 0ZXh0PXRpbWUgbWFjaGluZQ**&p_li=&ptopview=1

when updating google earth application by net my N81 8GB had problem : when i start it, after nokia logo is shown, the screen become white and nothing else!!!!!

    Try a hard reset.
Hard reset. Turn off the phone. Press and hold three keys together, the green key, the '*' key and the number '3'.Then, turn on the phone and don't let the three keys before you see the Nokia hands logo.
For 5800 XM hard reset need different keys. The green key, the red key and the camera button. The process is the same.Warning!Hard reset deletes all your phone's data!

  • Nokia N81(8GB) Alarm Problem

    Hi all,
I have recently updated my N81(8GB) to the latest firmware version i.e. V 21.0.008 and alongwith other minor issues I am facing a rather annoying problem. The problem is that when I set an alarm and turn off the mobile the Alarm sounds at that particular time but when I choose the option snooze it wont sound after the snooze period is over It'll only sound again when I Switch the mobile on. I just wanted to know whether this is happening with every other person who updated their N81 to this firmware version or is this glitch unique to me. Eagerly waiting for reply as the Alarm functionality is a commonly used feature and it should not go wrong.
    Regards,
    Umair

  • N81 8gb music problem

hey guys! i have an n81 8gb and is less than a month old..
my problem is, my music player hangs after quite sometime of playing songs.. after 10-15 mins,, the song will just suddenly stop,, and my phone hangs after that.. i thought of having my phone memory reformatted,, i did.. then after a while, i thought my problem was already resolved. but to my surprise, after, i think, more or less half an hour or so, i was faced with the same problem again. the music suddenly stops, and my phone hung and after few minutes,, it will automatically restart.
please help me out, i already installed the latest firmware here in my phone,, v 11.0.045 couple of days before the first hang up happened. hours before i experienced this music stopping, my phone incidentally dropped, so i dont know if that is the reason.. if that is, then why is it that my music player is the only one having a problem? i also thought that it could be another application installed in my phone,, but i already reformatted it and uninstalled the applications i installed before this happened.
i hope someone will reply and help me out with this.. thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I had other problems when i upgraded the firmware, the phone's keypad wouldn't lock when slid down, the phone doesn't change to the PC suite, data mode, or print mode & all. Its like it got a mind of its own & will work depending on its mood, just 2 days back my phone suddenly started working fine. i had installed lots of 3rd party application on it but i am sure that the problem have started only after i have upgraded my phone with the new firmware, because the problem only started after the upgrade.
This wasn't the 1st, i had 5300 previously which also stared acting weirdly after the firmware upgrade (the mini USB spotted working after the phone's restarted on completion of the upgrade). When I took it to the Nokia service station they kept it with them for 1 month & later replicated it with a new one after writing serval mails & Branch Managers for weeks.
That was one of the most worst experience i had with Nokia ever.
I think its best to leave the phone with the firmware it comes with.
I spoke to the Nokia Support here in India & all they had to say is that they are sorry if the phone has gone bad due to the firmware upgrade.

  • N81 8GB Messaging problem

Hi there - Have a problem messaging on my N81 8GB I have too many messages and the phone is saying that the mass memory is being used by the messaging service so I can't send any text messages at all additionally anyone know how to backup the messages from N81 8GB to a mac?

Use your Nokia PC Suite. It has a Backup manager, or if that is not enough for you, open your 'File Manager', look around, and store SMS'es you need not want anymore on another location (of your harddrive).
