N81 8GB sound quality

Hi,
While the mp3 player sound quality is great on my new phone, all the other sounds (ringtones, sms alerts etc.) have really low quality. They make this irritating click at the end every time they are activated and you can hear a hissing noise as they play. Is this normal?
It seems to me like the hardware and software depts. at Nokia are not too friendly these days. My phone came with a broken hands free and a back cover that's loose and creaks when using the phone . The OS is the only thing that has been polished to (near) perfection...

• N81 8gb sound delay in java and sis games

Hi i need some answers about this problem. There is a 0.75 second sound delay when i try and play any java or sis, sisx game, even the new ngage demos have this sound delay, i am not the only one having this problem either, check out ngage forum and there are at least 5-10 who say they also have this sound lag. Could anyone have any ideas if this will be remedied in fw updates or will have to send my phone off and hope it is replaced with a unit which does not have this problem, if it is replaced at all. I have called nokia careline and they have no record of any such bugs but i find this amzing to hear, if it is a faulty batch shouldnt nokia post this on their web pages so consumers can do something about it, after all enough people are mentioning this problem its not just me. Any help is welcomed.
regards

Well, 0.75 seconds isn't too bad. I have a few suggestions. Don't keep too many applications on, Don't use up too much battery power and don't use all the memory of your memory card.
That's right people, I'm back. Where have I been? I have been getting a life, away from this electric madness.

• N81 Sound Quality (Earphones)

I have being doing some test with the N81. Here are my findings;
- N81 sound output via headset is low even if max volume n full equaliser settings are set with also stereo wideing on/off & loudness.
- I tried different earphones in the N81 such as n91 earphones still sound quality low, & Sony ericsson W810i earphones sound quality abit loud due to bass in the earphones.
Is this a pure joke by Nokia or something? N95/N81/N81 8GB/N95 8GB/N76 have 3.5mm Audio Jack but the sound quality is pathetic with standard earphones.
However my Sony Ericsson K550i beats sound quality of the N81 even with its standard earphones.

• Why does my iPod have bad sound quality?

Hi!
I have an iPod Touch 8gb.
iOS 4.3.4
Jailbroken...
About 3 months ago, my headphone jack broke and was stuck in my iPod...
I got it out a week ago..
But the sound quality is really bad.
Theres too much echo, not enough bass and too much distortion and gain...

Based on other user's expereince, the headphone jack is damaged and requires replacement provided that the problem is only with headphones.

• Sound Quality Creative Zen

I recently purchased a Zen 8gb which I had to return due to a minor problem. I am not convinced that the sound quality of the new one is not as good as the previous one. Is this possible or am i paranoid. I have also been doing some blind tests with my old muvo n200 which sounds superior every time. Peoples opinions would be appreciated.

Bump, is it true that going back to the original .xxx firmware improves sound quality? If so, where can I find it's
If, by sound quality you mean increased bass, than the original firmware won't make any difference.
What phones are you using? If you are using the stock Creative earbuds, your first step should be to get some better ones. They are of poor quality, and don't produce a very good bass response - partly because they don't fit most people very well, and the only way to get a good bass response with earbuds is to have a good fit. There are many phones that will give a heavy bass output.
I have found that Creative players aren't as bass-heavy as some other players, but it isn't as though the sound is tinny. I find it very natural, but of course that is my own opinion and preference.Message Edited by Artemesia on 2-26-2005 04:06 PM

• Sound Quality / Chipset

I was considering buying an ipod classic until I saw the large number of negative responses about sound quality, due to the Wolfson chipset being replaced by a Cirrus chipset. But I've only seen this referred to about the ipod classic.
So my question is, which chipset is in the ipod touch? And also generally, what do people make of the sound quality in the ipod touch?

so far, the best sounding amoung the many ipods i have owned is the 8gb flash drive version. which only makes sense since there is no whirl-wine from the hard drive.
i did hear that the chipset in the new line of ipods are from a different manufacture and reportedly do not sound as good as the prior manufacturer.
it would be great if the dac spec's were plublished. prior versions are believed to be wolfenstien chips and the new version cirrus.

• N82 vs N97. Sound quality

Hi all.
I want to tell me, which one phone has better sound quality? Is (the sound quality) the same between these two phones (n97 and n82)?
If you want to thank someone, just click on the blue star at the bottom of their post

Psycho is a very knowledgeable person, but since audio quality is kind of a subjective measure I suggest you try them out for yourself.
I tend to agree with Psycho's comment but it's always good to test the devices using your music and your headphones (or the speakers) so that you know what you're getting. You may disagree with our assessment.
After all I've had people swear that the N95 has good or better audio quality than the N91 or N81... which I'm pretty convinced is not the case but to each its own.
As far as I know the N82 shares the internal audio system with the N95 and the N97 has a different audio system which in theory should be better, but I can't say for sure. I find the volume of the N97 to be very low although the speakers are good. Not as loud as the N81 though. I don't have the N82 so I can't really compare them anymore.
The problem with the N82/N85/N78/N95 and others is that it has some hiss in the background, this is not noticed by some people, but if you hear the sound of this devices and then hear an N81 or N91 you will notice the difference.

• Sound Quality : N91 Overrated, 6680 Underrated.

Hi guys! this is my first post here at nokia. I usually discuss at symbian-freak. =)
I know many of you will disagree with me on this but this is my own opinion. I just want to share it.
I think N91's sound quality is a bit overrated. I've tried one at a store at the mall a few hours ago and I was not that impressed. to be honest i was expecting the device would blow me away with tight bass and clear mids ang highs but It didn't deliver. It sounded good but it was not that impressive. I've even played with the EQ . Iv'e used my mk-650 IEM. It's definitely better than my n73 but I was disappointed with the n91.maybe my expectations was too high.
I am impressed though with the old 6680's sound quality. I am using it right now as an mp3 player because my sister had bought herself an N95 8GB. The 6680 armed with LCG jukebox' equalizer is really impressive. I enjoy listening to it than my n73. I don't know the reason why this old S60 phone sounds so good to my ears. maybe it just matches well with my IEM.
Ok that's it. I've expressed my point. Thanks.

Hmmm that's a though one.
If you didn't care too much about audio quality then I would say go for the N95 8GB.
But if you do care about audio quality then probably your best bet would be the upcoming N96... BUT
... You also want 3D acceleration, and the N96 doesn't have dedicated 3D acceleration HW. Mind you it still has 3D acceleration but it may not be as good as say the N95 8GB.
That being said, why do you think you need 3D acceleration?
Ngage games for the most part don't use 3D acceleration (except maybe Asphalt 3) and unless you are playing 3D Java games then there are no other applications that benefit from this.
Anyway. The N96 is not available yet, and you should read reviews of it and try it before you take the plunge.
So at the moment there's no model that has:
- 3D acceleration
- Big 16 million color screen
- Superior audio
- Good camera for video
- WiFi
I mean your contenders are N95, N95 8GB, N82, N78 and N96 but each one has strengths and weaknesses and you will need to ponder what you care the most about.
For camera I guess it's the N82.
For screen, 3D acceleration then the N95 8GB but camera has had some issues with video capture.
For screen, camera, sound then the N96 but then there's the question about the 3D acceleration
For a rounded up device then the N78 is good, but not outstanding in any given area.

• Mp4 on n81 8Gb?

Hi guys, i was wandering if mp4 movies can be watch on N81 8GB. This cause i´ve downloaded Led Zeppelin movie in mp4 (it plays good on iPod) but when i try to open with real player it says:- unable to play either movie and sound-.
Anyone knows why?
Thanks in advance

Most MP4's are created using certain codecs, these codecs tell the file what framerate, size of screen and compression ratio it is to use.
The best thing to do is find out the details from an MP4 that does work on your N81 and use a file convertor to change your new files to that format.
Use GSpot to look at the file format..

• N81 8GB blue flash lens and very poor picture qual...

Hello.
I have purchased the N81 8GB yesterday and have two enquirees regarding the camera and the lans. The flash len's is tinted blue which make's taking photos with it, appear as an overall cool tint has been applied to the picture. I have searched the internet to find to why it is blue to no avail. Is this normal?

Secondly, the 2MP camera quality is appaling. I have seen many test shot's taken with the phone however nowhere have I seen such poor image quality. I am thinking an firmware update might fix this issue. Currently the phone has FW 11.0.045 installed and I am told via Software updater that the FW is up to date, however an quick internet search reveal's that the newest firmware is in the 20x range. (Region setting perhaps?)
Please enlighten me reagrding the previous enquirees.

And what kind of a question is that. I brought it from an nokia representative.
Ill try to take it to nokia care centre.
Hmm it is very hard to justiify If I have scratched the len's or what not. Can you verify is the len's of suck phones as this one mentioned can be scratched easily with an fingernail? If not then it might be the protective film which somehow is challanging to remove (providing the phone has any)

• N81 8GB versus N91 4GB

Hello everyone.
Can you tell me if it will be a wise move to buy a N81 8GB after spending almost 2 years with N91 ? My only real problem with N91 is how slow it is sometimes loading songs or pictures etc.
Is N81 worth?
I see in the forum that there are problems with its memory etc? What do those who have one think? Would they buy it again?
I know it is a big difference from S60 to S40 but why not a 5610 with 4GB card?
Thanks for the help.

S40 is ok IF you don't mind loosing the ability to install new apps. to your device. Also if you are OK with not playing high quality videos.
N81 is an OK phone and is coming down in price nicely. If you were ok using the N91, the N81 should be an improvement.
The N96 is right around the corner, so you may want to wait until that comes out to decide if you get the N96. The N96 is supposed to have very good audio quality, and 16 GB plus the option of a memory card! for a total of 24 GB storage out of the box!.
