N81 8GB update

i have N81 8GB its product code 0552048 i  always hav  pc suite remainder say new software update available 21.0.010 and whn i try 2 update my device no responce its say no software available now whn i try check my product code on nokia web site it say Sorry, there is no software currently available for that product code via the Nokia Software Update tool. plz hep

is your phone branded to the provider? if it is then only provider can approve an update for your phone. if the phone was bought unlcoked/unbranded it could also be that the product code /region has not gotten the firmware update release yet. updates are released over a course of months sometimes even longer if translation comes into play. so these could be the reasons why you can't udpate your device

  • N81 8GB update is Out

My phone is dead after update from v11.0.0.45 to v21.0.008. The update went all the way but when the pnone reboot ,it was unable to start. It shows the nokia logo ,then blinks and restarts. I tried with hard reset but no luck so far. Any ideas?

    From Micky @ Nokiausers
'I can confirm improvements to both Navi Wheel, resulting in smoother, more positive feedback, and also now, the N81 gets N96 style Transitions, with smooth glide menu navigation cursor, maximize, and minimize menu opening, and closures. Very impressive.
I have also noticed, that now, when you open up the gallery, it automatically opens up viewing in landscape mode, and enables Navi Wheel smooth navigation through your various images, and videos.
As to the camera, there is obviously still no auto-focus, and as of yet, cannot find any improvements within the camera function, still quite poor, which is a shame.
Bluetooth, and Wlan however appear to have been improved dramatically, with improvements to being able to find devices much further away than before. Bluetooth now, finds a couple of my neighbours handsets, which it did not before, and WIFI seems much more stable.'

  • N81 8gb firmware update - language change?

    Hi Everyone,
I've bought an N81 8gb which has Chinese, English, and Melayu as language set. I'm currently living in China and therefore the Chinese language set is crucial; however, I know that N81 8gb is not officially released in China and therefore, there is no official firmware update from China.
My current device firmware is at V.10.0.053 RM-179. If I use the PC suite's software updater, will I lose the chinese language set on my phone? Has anyone lost their languages after updating?
I'm a bit weary to do try because I updated my girlfriend's bought in China N72 which reverted to the Nokia Europe site but the device software only had French, English, Italian and no Chinese after installing the update.

It's not possible to upgrade offline.
The nokia software updater needs an active broadband internet connection to be able to work.
As an alternative you could get our phone updated at a nokia care point.

  • N81 8gb Software Update problems (bad!)

hi i have an N81 8gb phone, great phone but now, its as good as a paper weight, heres whats goin on, the 1st time i updated the software everything was fine and the update went smooth after a few months of use and heavy download (i mean 8GB! a lot of **bleep**) i decided to reinstall the software and start clean slate, so midway into the update the phone just froze and the status bar wasnt moving, and i thought to myself 11 mins seems forever, scary! after an hour i decided to just push some buttons just maybe to "wake up " the phone, but to no avail, man, i was like ok, so i pulled the plug and took out the battery and when i restarted my computer and clicked on the update program, it said i have to reinstall the SOftware and what not. but the problem is everytime it reaches 11 mins left it would spit out an error message saying phone connection lost, then i would have to do it again, after 5 days of trying to update, still the same. 11 mins to me now is a nightmare. PLease help or advise,
    Solved!

    hi,
    can you try this:
    1) Remove the battery, and then wait for about 20 min or so before putting it back
    2) Press and hold these three keys together -Green dial key, Star key[*], Three key [3]
    3) switch ON the phone.
    4) Do not let go the three keys until you see the WELCOME screen displayed and just let it complete the boot process
if that doesnt help you at all, you better run to the nearest nokia care point

  • N81 8gb software update - different product keys l...

My n81 8gb is getting an error message saying that the camera is not supported, and games that I deleted keep showing and are able to play, and they cant be uninstalled on application manager.
So, as I read in some topic about "n81 2gb camera not supported", I though I should update the software on my n81, but when I entered the product key of my phone, the version was the one that I have(v20.0.056), and everyone is talking about some v21. When I changed one of the numbers of the product key, it appeared v21!
Why is it different? Why cant I have it and someone else can?
Is it going to work on my phone?
    thank you in advance

the product code indicates the different variants of the phone ie : phones of the same model but manufactured for different countries or even different network operators
in this case here, if there is no update for ur product code, its possible that ur phone is a network locked phone and any updates for it will only be released once the network provider approves of the s/w changes made in the update

  • How to delete a corrupt software from your N81 8GB

    Hello all.
I'm new to this and i was just wondering if anyone could help me.
I need to delete or remove a corrupt software on my N81 8GB.
The problem is that nothing is working and i don't want to format my mass memory.
Though if formatting is my only resort how can i back up my mass memory and keep my data safe?
Any other way to remove it?
    Anything is appreciated
    Thanks in advance
    Infamousblood

Download Nokia PCSuite 7.1.18.0 and Nokia Software Updater 1.4.85 from Nokia site, then install NPCS first. Connect phone. Then NSU. After that make a memory backup, first on your memory card, next by Content copier from NPCS. After this Open NSU and follow commands.
But after backup memory you can try to soft reset by dialing *#7370# this reformat your phone and restor software as from factory, but with latest software, if you updated.

  • Unable to install Ovi Maps 3.1 on N81 8gb

One of my older phones i've recently upgraded it to the latest firmware v11.0.045 RM-179.  I've been trying to install the latest ovi maps onto the phone but keep getting the error insufficient disk space.  So far I've removed most of the installed demos off the c-drive that i know won't be used, but i've only managed to get upto 8mb free from a whopping 25mb c-drive!!
There isn't a c-drive cleanup program like we have on the N97 either.  I've installed DrJukka to see what's on the z-drive but i've no idea what to clean up.  I've removed all cache and privacy stuff from internet too.
Anyone out there have any positive ideas on how i can free up some more disk space?
    Thanks in advance.

I am unable to get the free navigation working on my N81 8GB.  I have tried multiple times to format and load nokia maps which loads maps 3.1 on the mobile phone.  I am doing this using Map updater and map loader.  Whenever I start a navigation the phone needs to go online to the shop and then takes me to the page to purchase a 1 month or 1 year subscription.
When the navigation is free then why pay.
I purchased a bluetooth gps device to connect to my phone so that I could use the free navigation but cannot use it.
Can I get the ovi maps 3.3 sis for mobile  by email.  I have been trying to get the free navigation for almost 2 months after purchase of the phone.

  • N-Gage on Nokia N81-8gb.

    Hi,
I have got an original N81-8gb (RM-179) the one that came with a demo version of the n-gage application before its first release. (Or pre version 1 of the n-gage 2 if you see what I mean).  I have had no problems with it (or the device) until I came to update the n-gage client to the latest version.  Unfortunately the client fails to install (regardless of how I get the installer on the device) with an error about it being a"built-in component" which I suppose it was when i first had the device, but I was able to install the first full release version.
I'm running the latest firmware 21.0.10 (Or something like that, its reported as being up to date with the Software Updater) and Have tried uninstalled everything and even reset the phone to factory defaults all to no avail.  As a side note I also cannot even uninstall the n-gage application as it doesn't appear in the AppManager and pressing the 'c' key on the icon to delete also fails.
Does anyone have any ideas as the customer care email address is completely useless as they don't seem to bother reading your email and only tell you to...
    1) Install the latest firmware (I already am)
    2) Install the n-gage app (I can't thats the problem)
    3) Reflash your n95 (I don't own one)
    4) Goto 1.
I just hope that someone else has had this problem and can help. Thanks in advance.
    - Skavenger.

Do a hard reset, and then try again to install the n gage application into your phone.
Hard reset (the three key code/reset). Turn off the phone. Press and hold three keys together, the green/talk key, the * key and the number '3'.Then, turn on the phone and don't let the three keys before you see the nokia hands logo/nokia boot up screen.Warning! You will lose ALL your phone's data/files!

Has Nokia forgot all about this handset or what? It really needs a new firmware update from V11.

  • N81 8GB blue flash lens and very poor picture qual...

    Hello.
I have purchased the N81 8GB yesterday and have two enquirees regarding the camera and the lans. The flash len's is tinted blue which make's taking photos with it, appear as an overall cool tint has been applied to the picture. I have searched the internet to find to why it is blue to no avail. Is this normal?
    [IMG]http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm143/technofreak23/blueflash.jpg[/IMG]
Secondly, the 2MP camera quality is appaling. I have seen many test shot's taken with the phone however nowhere have I seen such poor image quality. I am thinking an firmware update might fix this issue. Currently the phone has FW 11.0.045 installed and I am told via Software updater that the FW is up to date, however an quick internet search reveal's that the newest firmware is in the 20x range. (Region setting perhaps?)
Please enlighten me reagrding the previous enquirees.

And what kind of a question is that. I brought it from an nokia representative.
Ill try to take it to nokia care centre.
Hmm it is very hard to justiify If I have scratched the len's or what not. Can you verify is the len's of suck phones as this one mentioned can be scratched easily with an fingernail? If not then it might be the protective film which somehow is challanging to remove (providing the phone has any)

  • N81 8GB Phone memory is not available !!!

I am using N81 8GB. So far I know brand new N81 8GB has 16MB of free internal memory and somewhat 8GB of free external memory (where internal memory in the phone memory and external memory is the memory card.
Last three months it was asking me “Phone Memory” is out of space whereas I used only 2GB out of 8GB mass memory.  I installed everything in Mass memories. Recently it was asking me , Phone memory is not available. I used “OVI suite” with  cable and found 24MB already used 0(zero) space available. Then I deleted all programme, music, video and  and others from “Mass memory”  and formatted it. Even deleted everything except default program. Then I flashed the Mobile from OVI update suite. Version has changed but found 21MB is occupied out of 24MB. Now tell me what’s the solution to free the spaces?
I can’t receive more than 3 or 4 music (small) files via Bluetooth. It asks me to free the inbox space. So far I had total 10 text message (SMS) in inbox. Why it should ask me whereas I have enough memory( 6GB) in “Mass Memory” ?
    Is there any solution?
    Solved!

At last my N81 8GB  Phone memory problem is solved by using the command

    Second Step:    Factory Reset (R S T 0 ?)>>>
    *#7780#
After contact address sync from OVI.com , Now Phone memory is
    7.48MB used
    16.9MB free
    total = 24.4 MB
Usefull help for N95 and N81 codes:

  • N81 8Gb, playback skips/jumps while playing in van...

I have an N81 8GB phone, recently updated my firmware to version 11, thought this might help, it didn't..
While playing my MP3 player through the van stereo via a cassette adapter, when I get out, the player stops, obviously because I remove the key. When I get back in, start the engine, it comes back on, but half way through another song, or at the end of the song I was listening to!?
Never get to here a full song, because I'm in and out of the van, really annoying!
Is there anyway to prevent this?

What is the 'cassette adapter' that you are using? Are you plugging into the phone via the headphone socket?
If this is the case, then the phone's music player is not stopping - the van's power is cut so the its stereo goes off and the speakers fall silent, but the phone is still under its own battery power so the music player is still going. You don't hear anything because the phone still detects an accessory plugged in so it doesn't reactivate the phone's own speaker, but the music plays on...

  • N81 8GB and maps: internal memory lost!!!!

My brand new N81 8GB has 16MB of free internal memory and somewhat 8GB of free external memory (where internal memory in the phone memory [C drive] and external memory is the memory card [E drive]).
The N81 comes preinstalled with the Nokia Maps software, but no maps are pre-loaded.
According to NOKIA, to upload maps on the N81 you need [STEP 1] first to update the Nokia Maps software ON THE PHONE and [STEP 2] then install and run the Nokia Maps Loader from the computer.
The problem that is reported here has nothing to do with [STEP 2] (which works fine and correctly uploads maps on the N81 external memory) but happens already at [STEP 1].
So, starting with an N81 with 16MB of free internal memory, I connect it to the pc in PC SUITE MODE and I install the Nokia Maps software update, and after installation the phone internal memory goes down to 8MB!!!!!!!!!
So, by simply updating the Nokia Maps software (not even the maps) 8MB of internal memory are lost.
I have tried anything to gain back those 8MB, but could not find any solution. I have even tried with X-plore looking into every single hidden and system folder: nothing!!!!!!!!!
The only way was to do a hard reset of the phone and reinstall all software (or a backup, if you have one).
By the way, the Nokia Maps Loader uploads the maps on the phone even if you do not do the Nokia Maps software update.

Same here, but with a non-8GB N81, and it's internal memory is at 1.3MB!
