N810 Vodafone USB Modem issue

Friends,
I have just purchased Nokia N810 wimax series internet tablet but now I have a problem acessing Internet using the Vodafone USB modem which is windows based & not Linux based.
So do we have any service provider in India who gives Linux based USB modem or rather one compatible with N810 wimax.....
This is very urgent guys coz i have to make presentation using it in 2 days.

Check this thread from the OpenSolaris forums. It should apply to Sol11E.

  • How do I securely eject vodafone USB modem in Yosimite?

    Hi Guys,
Every time I try to safely remove the usb modem , my system comes up with an warning message that the disk was removed without shutting down first and the restarts the Macbook ... this is freakin anoying.
I do go to the Vodafone software and close everything and also quit the application but still does it ..

Try going to 'Finder'. You should see something like 'Vodafone USB modem' or 'USB modem' under the 'Devices' tab on the left hand side of the 'Finder' window. There should be an icon next to it, that allows you to eject it. If not, right click or tap with two fingers on it (if you enabled the feature) and you should be able to eject it. If not, well... I can't help very much then.

  • MacBook Pro Wake-up numerous panics Vodafone USB modem

I have a MacBook Pro 15" with Mountain Lion OSX 10.7.5 installed. I plug in a usb modem "Vodafone Mobile Broadband K3765 HSPA USB Modem" or  "Vodafone Mobile Broadband K3520 HSPA USB Modem"(HuaweiDataCard). With the modem plugged into the USB when the Mac is not in use, it goes into Sleep mode. On wake-up the Mac OSX panic. I have tested this without the modem and there is no issues.
I have tested two different modems, made sure that both modems and Vodafone Mobile Broadband software is on the latest supported releases.
I have a similar panic happening when the Bluetooth mouse is on while the Mac wake-up.
Does anyone know of a fix for this issue ?

Any activity on a USB bus, including connecting or disconnecting a USB device, will wake the computer. This is as-designed and not a fault. I don't know of any way to prevent it.  Connect or disconnect your USB devices before putting the computer to sleep.

  • Vodafone USB Modem Stick - if I buy it in Italy, can I use it elsewhere?

I have been wrestling for a while now with the problem of how best to access the Internet, via my MacBook, while in Italy, where we have a holiday home.
I called in at the local Vodafone shop (in the town of Pergola, Pesaro-Urbino, Marche region). The guy there told me that I could buy a USB modem for 99 Euro, but he wasn't sure whether I would get a signal at my home, up in the hills behind the town. Now I can get a signal on my mobile phone there (with a UK Vodafone account).
I then came home and enquired about the USB modem at a UK Vodafone shop, to be told it could not be purchased outright (as it can in Italy), but only as part of an 18-month contract. As I would hardly be using it in the UK it makes no sense to pay the exorbitant fees that using it in Italy would involve.
So I'm left with the dilemma: should I shell out the 99 Euros for a dongle in Italy , presuming that I can use it anywhere that Vodafone Italy have coverage (maybe even my home there!)? And if I ever wanted to, could I use it back in the UK?
Any advice or suggestions from Mac-using dongle people would be welcome!

You need to check carefully with the local rules because the issue is not one of technical matters but policy.
First of all, the card will absolutely work. No doubt about it.
However, if it was purchased in Italy, it will have an Italian phone number associated with it (yes, even though it's not used as a phone it still has a phone number). When you use it in the UK it would be just the same as using a Italian-purchased cellphone in the UK with the same burdens of roaming charges, etc.
The situation may be worse with the data card because many wireless carriers place additional restrictions on data usage in addition to phone minutes and text messages. You may find that the Italian plan allows for, say, 5GB of data transfer per month, but only 10MB roaming data with a charge of €10/MB.
At that point the question is not whether it will work (it will), but whether you can afford to run it.

  • With vodafone usb modem broadband, it takes mozilla 5 mins. to access a website;Mozilla 1.7 takes 30 secs.

I have vodafone broadband mobile lite (USB modem) and after selecting a website, it takes up to 5 mins. to get there and open it. (and by the way, IE is the same), whereas old old Mozilla 1.7, which is what I am submitting this through, takes 30 secs, or so via vodafone.

  • Boot issue/ USB Modem issue

I have a mac book that I just got about 3 weeks ago. I bought a USB modem because my mom still has dial-up, and I wanted to be able to use it at her house. everything worked just fine for a while, but then I started having lots and lots of truble with getting cut off. I checked the basics, used the smae phone cord that works perfectly for my mom's computer. ect ect. I figured out that I always get cut off if the modem is pluged into 1 usb port, and I don't get cut off if its pluged into the other. I'm already thinking mother bord problem, warintee repair. Then it starts that sometimes when I turn it on, it just comes up to a grey screen, and I have to reboot and zap the p-ram before it works.
SO I talk to the apple 800 number. they authorise me for a warintee repair, and I decide to take it into a local shop so I don't have to wait for the shipping turn around time. The local shop has returned my computer, didn't fix a dam thing and charged me $20. Said that they didn't get cut off, now I'm wondering if they had it pluged into the wrong USB port. said he thinks that the boot issue is a firm ware bug, and that I should wait for a firmware update to fix the problem. sugested putting my computer to sleep rather then turning it off. Does this sound like bull to anybody else???? any other sugestions, other then just calling apple back and shipping it in this time? has anybody else had problems like this that would make it looklike a firm ware bug?
    thanks guys!
    Mark

It seems to me that you have two different problems. You should look around these fora to see if there are similar problems like the one you report about boot up, and if they got the same answer. But regarding your modem problem, there are a couple of solutions that have been discussed, starting from line noise to a retrofitting of software for the modem. Check out this:

  • OSX 10.4.10/Apple USB Modem issue

    Hi there:
3 weeks ago I bought a new imac and also an apple usb modem (since we only have dial up where I live).
I wasn't having a problem at all with connecting to the internet.
I am online virtually most of the day and, at night, I disconnect and put my computer to sleep.
Now every morning when I go to connect, it just says "connecting" endlessly, with no dial tone....YES, the phone line is working.
It does nothing to disconnect the phone line, the modem etc.
If you click "disconnect" it just says "disconnecting" endlessly.
I am forced to shut down the computer and reboot to make it stop and reset itself and then I can connect to the internet just fine.
The only thing I can think of that changed since when I first got the computer is that I upgraded to OSX 10.4.10.
Does anyone know if this is a 10.4.10 issue or a modem issue?
I posted this in the old hardware forum as well....
    Help!
    Thanks!

I don't know how much of a Mac background you have, so forgive me if I state the obvious. Before and after any upgrade you should be repairing permissions (in Disk Utilities). There are some AOL issues with this modem if you use that ISP. I am having a problem with my usb modem not dialing for sending a fax @ work until I uncheck "wait for dialtone" but I am dialing through a work phone system. I have not figured out how to make this the default setting. Since you have a new iMac, you should call Apple Support by your misbehaving phone line.
    Good Luck

  • Apple USB modem issues

I use an Apple USB modem on my G5 Quad to send/receive faxes.
From Apples Apple USB Modem FAQ: "It is not recommended to attach the Apple USB modem to the USB port of an ADC display or to an external USB hub. This modem works most reliably when connected directly to your computer."
Yes it does and it did for me for about 2 years with Tiger.
But with Leopard I get the following errors while booting, when the modem is directly plugged into the USB port of my Quad:
kextd[10]: IOKitWaitQuiet() timed out waiting to write kernel symbols
configd[14]: InterfaceNamer: timed out waiting for IOKit to quiesce
The boot process stalls for about half a minute at these errors.
And the Quad doesn't shutdown any more. Just displays the desktop wallpaper without icons and menu bar until I do a force power down.
If I connect the Apple USB modem to an USB hub, these issues and the error messages are gone.
So I think something is seriously wrong with the driver for the Apple USB modem in Leopard.
    Peter

I'm sitting at a G4/DP800 at home running Leopard (I have a Mac Pro 2x3 in the office so don't feel bad for me!). The internal modem (info below) simply will not work (modem errors), though it worked fine under Tiger. Thankfully I already had an Apple USB modem on hand (purchased to use with a laptop), and tried it out. It works more reliably, though I've had a few system freezes and I wonder if the modem is involved (see crash log below where it is mentioned).
I just read on this thread about not using the USB modem attached to the Apple 17" display, which I have been doing; I will try it on the back of the CPU next.

  • Apple USB modem issue

    Here's the setup:
    MBP, 10.4.8, external Apple USB modem v.2.02 56k v92
    • At remote location (wife's parents' house in valley) connects just fine at about 49K.
    • Back at home (outskirts of greater metro area), cannot connect past 24.6.
    MDD G4, 10.3.9, internal modem (Spring v1.2.6, hdw v7.0F) 56k v90
    • Connects just fine at home (well, 42,667 is the best I can get, but compared to 24,600, it's "just fine").
All settings are the same; error correction and compression, etc.
    Am I missing something, here?

Sig could be right - it could be phone lines. If the v.92 is experiencing more errors than the v.90 'cos of the higher spec you could get the poorer performance. Can you get it to try connecting at a lower bit rate?

  • USB modem issues on MacBook Pro (UK 3 network) - keeps trying to install!

I've a 3UK USB E160G modem on PAYG that I use with my MacBook Pro (late 2008). Device is installed and works no problems. But each time I connect it, it starts the installer again. At first it was no big deal, just exit out of it, but its really starting to bug me now. Can anyone here advise if I can stop this happening and how? Im using Leopard on 10.5.5
    Cheers!

I did try that unfortunately, but I can't even get the 'df' command to display the partitions.  So the 'find' command doesn't work and running grub-install simply gets me something like 'file not found'
Chakra also failed, so I may be headed back to Ubuntu.  I love the hardware side of my mac, but am so freaking tired of dealing with EFI.
After 6 months of 'easy' linux I thought I was ready for something a bit more challenging, but I guess I am not up to the task.

  • Using USB modem with a macbook

I use a vodafone usb modem to connect to the internet , and i am currently trying to download a torrent using Azureus , but my download speed has never been higher than 10kB/s.
Does any one know how to configure a usb modem to Azureus so the speed can improve. Or does anyone know another software which works better with usb modems ... help.

My speeds are related to signal strength just like my phone coverage which is relatively the same thing because the usb modem is a phone of sorts. In urban areas, the strength is much stronger than in rural areas but for the most part, I am very happy with Verizon. I've found that the device is not as important as the provider and the quality of their network.
To me, the ability to use my machine anywhere I choose is appealing regardless of the speed.

  • Apple USB Modem+WinXP SP3 Failure.  Help?

I have installed a fresh Windows XP SP3 (via a full SP3 install CD) onto a Macbook Pro Unibody 2.8Ghz. Everything seems to work amazingly except for when I go to use the Apple USB Modem, my only means of accessing the internet currently.
When I attempt to dial out from Windows, the modem sound coming through the speakers seems to be scratchy, and to drop in and out. When the host computer responds, instead of the normal sequence of harsh sounds, there is a new, horrible, mangled array of bizarre sounds I have never heard emit from modems. It is such that I was sure either my telephone line or modem had suddenly failed... That is until I booted back into OS X and found the modem to work just fine again.
I have tried lowering port speed as low as 9600, and turning off a port buffer. Neither made any difference. I have also used Hyperterminal to do a soft modem reset and then to manually dial out with it, and it behaves the same. I thought perhaps the dial-up program was entering some command codes to the modem that was changing its protocols, but resetting and dialing out in Hyperterminal indicates that is not where the problem lies.
I googled around and found some reports of past Apple USB Modem issues that were resolved with Boot Camp Beta 1.1.2. But here I am with Boot Camp 2.0 so I don't know why I'm having this problem or what could be done about it.
    Thanks for any help!

I managed to get mine to connect once at 56k and once at 33k, but as you said it just drops very quickly. I think this is a driver issue, but I don't know why it works for some and not others. Apple seems to think the driver they supply with Boot Camp works with it or they wouldn't provide it. An Apple document from an older Boot Camp version (1.1.2 I think) says they now fixed it to work with the Apple Modem, but here I am with Boot Camp 2.1 and it's not working.
I read a bit about the modem itself, and it seems that the Apple USB Modem is actually a Motorola SM56. The "SM" stands for "soft modem". What it turns out this means is that the majority of the actual "modem" is a software program, and there is very little actual "hardware" involved. Perhaps this explains why with Windows/Boot Camp it sounds as if the modem is having a terrible hardware failure, whereas it is perfectly fine in OS X Leopard.
It would be nice to hear some more reports that this isn't working for anyone, or if there is a fix or.. Well any additional information would be nice.
That's about all I "know" at this stage.

  • Problems with Vodafone/Huawei E220 wireless usb Modem

    Hi there,
My faithful Powerbook is having issues with a company issued Vodafone Vodem (Huawei E220 wireless HSDPA 3G USB modem).
It worked well at first, but then after restarting, waking from sleep or rebooting from off, the Vodem would cease to connect to Vodafone, with the Vodafone Modem Software giving me a cryptic message "No modem or data card attached".
Yesterday, I tried reinstalling and uninstalling the software, and after several installation/uninstallations, it finally reconnected. It has since stopped working again since shutting down the Powerbook overnight. Reinstalling has not yet worked.
I read somewhere on the net that leaving the modem plugged in for a minute before attempting to connect might work - alas no such luck.
Has anyone else out there had problems with their Vodafone/Huawei E220 USB wireless modem, and how did you resolve the problem?
I have tried both the New Zealand 2.07 version, plus the European 2.08 version of the Vodafone connectivity software.
    I am running a Powerbook 15", 1.67ghz, MacOS 10.4.11, 512MB, no other peripherals connected.

No experience, but what happens if you log out then back in?
Does a New User have that problem?

  • Usb modem compatibility issues.

I have discovered that if I am online and I connect my Wacom Intuos II graphics tablet to my iMac, the modem begins the disconnect process, which then goes on and on and on... The only way to make it stop is to unplug the modem, which causes a kernal panic. If I wait, it takes at least 10 minutes for the disconnect process to complete.
I called Applecare, and - maybe because it is saturday - I had to explain to the tech that the new iMacs don't come with an internal modem, and I had the usb modem, which back in October made my ordere a custom build. He thought I should consider getting an internal one.
After straightening out that, he said there was an article that covered this issue (it's a usb compatibilty thing), the gist of which is if I want to plug in a peripheral, I have to disconnect from the internet first, plug in the peripheral, then reconnect :/
Also, he said that if I shut down, I need to unplug the modem first, then plug it back in after the computer starts up (I have no idea what to do in the case of a restart - what a pia this has turned into)
So. I get the email of the pdf article from Applecare. And. It. Is. In. Japanese.
Anybody know how to find the English version? here is the link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=52085
iSight iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.3)
      Mac OS X (10.4)
Edit: I just noticed that this article is for an internal modem. Arrrggh....

If you notice, that article was last updated in 2003. Therefore it was written before there was an iMac G5. That article is not applicable to you.

  • Can't eject USB modem (Vodafone) - MAC OS crash

    Hi,
I have recently purchased a USB modem for mobile broadband from Vodafone Australia. When I plug it into my Macbook (Intel Core 2 Duo running OSX 10.5.8) the modem appears then automatically disappears from the "DEVICES" tab on the Finder. It also disappears from Disk Utility and the Desktop, so I can't find a way to eject the modem when I'm done. If I unplug it, the computer freezes, with a black shade coming down and telling me that I have to turn off the computer. Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks for any help!
    Eric

I had a problem that might be related to yours: after I unplugged my fax modem there was a 30-second timeout delay before my iMac (OSX 10.6.5) would go to sleep. The problem went away when I "deleted" the modem:
