N82 low battery life

Hi, I have had a Nokia N82 for about 2 weeks and noticed early on that the battery went flat after about 24hrs. Over the weekend I loaded about 400mb of music onto the memory card and since then it goes flat in about 12 hours. (poss coincidence?)
Could there be any applications that are constantly running (GPS, WLAN etc...) that are causing this or just a duff battery?
I'd be grateful for any advice.
Many thanks in anticipation,
Mark

I have finally fixed my problem now and it was definitely the wireless thing as I had changed all my other settings to minimise battery use.
Even though I had disabled WLAN scanning and reduced its power setting I still had entries every minute or so in my call log trying to access my WLAN which was saved as I had used it before.
In the end I deleted this WLAN and all saved WLAN's from my phone and the problem stopped as it no longer appeared in the call log.
I can now say that my battery lasts for days at a time rather than about 24 hours.
This should solve your problem if.
I dont have any problem as you mentioned here but then also my battery stays for only for 24 hrs (less than 24hrs if used constantly) Any solution?
Please reply for my posts also! Thanks in advance.

  • Is ipod touch low battery life normal?

I just bought my new ipod touch. I found the battery life is quite short. Every day i have to charge it twice. Now I am keeping to use my ipod touch as less as possible to manage charging it once a day. This is really not compared to a regular phone, which you probably can use 3 or 4 days to recharge again.
The so-called dock adapter inside the box is quite tricky! I thought it is the power adapter. Normally when you buy a cellphone, it comes with the power adapter. But for ipod touch, you have to buy power adapter separately! I even don't know what's the use of this 'plastic' dock adapter. i called Apple and asked "You call this plastic piece an adapter!". It's a little funny!
During my first week using my ipod touch, it got stuck or crashed TWICE, two times! One time is when it downloaded an email with a 8Mb attachement.
In addition, I feel quite confusing with so many accounts with Apple, such as Apple store account, iTune account, iChat account, MobileMe account, and even this discussion forum account. Now I have 3 Apple IDs!
The use of MacBook is so far so good.
This is my experience with Apple's products!
Welcome comments and sharing your experience! i just couldn't help keeping myself silent.

Is ipod touch low battery life normal
Yes and no. Even in normal usage, Safari and videos can kill the battery in 4 - 5 hours, whereas music with the screen and WiFi off should last for 22 hours. Most iPT's can last for days in sleep mode, even with WiFi left "ON".
My previous iPod Touch had no battery problems -- the charge would only drop significantly when being used, not while sleeping. Now I have a replacement iPod Touch (the previous one couldn't install the 2.0 Update), and this one won't even last overnight in sleep mode.
Here's what I did in my last test: Turned all the WiFi services off -- Push: OFF, Fetch: OFF, Location Services: OFF, Ask to Join Networks: OFF, WiFi: OFF. Fully recharged the iPT, disconnected it and left it shut down overnight. Booted it up the next day, full battery (Okay so far). Next, I left the iPod Touch in sleep mode for the entire day (8am - 6pm), still full battery (Great!). At 9:00pm, turned on WiFi (and none of the other items mentioned above), used Safari for about 15 minutes, battery went down one notch ~ 90%. (Still normal) Put the iPT into sleep mode, but this time with WiFi left "ON". Woke up the next morning, and the battery plummeted to 10% in about 5 minutes. (NOT GOOD AT ALL).
My previous iPod Touch would have still had 90-80% battery the next morning. And while I would generally suspect the 2.0 Update being the culprit, everyone else I know has been running 2.0 without any problems -- no installation problems, no battery problems. I've been cursed with both issues in two separate iPods.
(I should also mention. I have not yet had a chance to install any media or applications on this iPod Touch, so there's no chance an errant application has somehow triggered a battery drain. This is just a plain iPT with the 2.0 Update and a restore of my Safari bookmarks.)

  • Noisy fan, very hot case and low battery life

    Hi
Got a new Aluminium Powerbook 1.67 in Feb of this year, plus 2 spare
    batteries.
Initially I was very happy at how quiet it was and how cool it was running..... however....
The fan has become really noisy and the case gets very hot ( near the power in )
The batteries will only ever give me exactly 1.5 hours of use even after firmware upgrades and restting the PMU, PRAM etc. ( this is with light use )
Looks like it'll have to go back to Apple for the fan, I just wondered if anyone else had similar problems and whether they got resolved to their satisfaction?
    Regards
    Graham

    Graham,
Excess heat will certainly reduce battery life, so you should get your pB looked at ASAP and have the fans taken care of.
    Definitely think about getting AppleCare.
Did you ever properly calibrate your batteries?
Simply run them past the low-battery warning until the pB goes to sleep. Then plug in the Adapter until fully charged. May have to repeat this a couple of times.

  • HOT mac & low battery life.

My mac pro is suddenly VERY hot and also the battery life is very low. I left my mac on charge all last night, and it only gave me 1.5hr battery life?

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

  • Low battery life, heat or noise with Macbook pro? SOLUTION HERE

    Low Battery?
    Warm unit on Idle?
    Loud fan?
    Likely solution is here..
I have a new 15" and had these issues, found the only working solution in the thread below, safe and easy to use. If you are worried do a
time machine backup before doing this.
    Go here
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3191543?start=0&tstart=0
Read post #2, put the command into your Terminal (Found inside launchpad)
           - That command is the following "sudo launchctl unload -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.citrix.agadminservice.plist"
type password when asked ( you wont see any characters but it will be accepted when pressing enter)
Restart, battery, heat and noise issue is completely solved, lion is fixed.
You now have a very high quality product, that functions like it should. Macbook Pro still owns.
    Hope this helps everyone out.

Same problem with shortened battery life here with 10.6.2 (2009 unibody 15" MBP 2.53 GHz.) Shutting down and removing the battery seems to have brought fully charged battery life back from less than 2 hours to over 5 again. Didn't bother holding down the power button with the battery out though.
    A few notes:
    1. Prior to the shut down + battery removal, I had noticed unusual warmth despite the CPU being only lightly loaded. Activity monitor showed no app using more than 4% of the CPU, with just a few apps running (Safari, Mail, iCal, Finder).
    2. Months ago, just a PRAM reset seemed to fix the problem, possibly with 10.6.1 or 10.6. Can't remember for sure. But PRAM reset doesn't help any more with 10.6.2.
    3. I have never reset the SMC.
    4. I don't recall this problem happening with any of the 10.5 releases. Just with 10.6.x.
    5. The bottom of the MBP's enclosure is cool again after the shutdown + battery removal.
    6. I am also running 10.6.2 on a 2008 aluminum iMac (20" 2.4 GHz) and haven't noticed any unusual temperatures, but it's much harder to tell. And of course, there's no battery life to measure.
I'll see if the problem returns again, but it really seems like a Mac OS X problem instead of a firmware or runaway app problem. Maybe some daemon is stuck in a busywait loop or something?

  • IPhone 4 hot and low battery life?

Why does my I phone 4 have such a small battery life? And it is running hot

    Hello Bmay121,
Thank you for providing the details about the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone.  I found a couple of resources that may help address this issue.
First, I recommend following these steps if your iPhone has a short battery life:
    Battery life seems short
Click ( www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html) for tips on how to prolong iPhone's battery life.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Connect iPhone to iTunes and restore iPhone.
If the screen shows a low-battery image, the battery is low on power and needs to charge for up to ten minutes before you can use it.
When charging iPhone, make sure to leave it charging until it is fully charged. You'll know the battery is fully charged when the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen looks like this .
Note: When charging using a computer, don't connect iPhone to a keyboard. Also, the computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPhone is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPhone battery may drain.

You can also find useful information about the iPhone's operating temperatures in this article:When troubleshooting temperature, please refer to the following article:
iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch (4th generation): Keeping device within acceptable operating temperatures
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2101
When using the device or charging the battery, it is normal for it to get warm. The exterior of the device functions as a cooling surface that transfers heat from inside the device to the cooler air outside. If the interior temperature of the device exceeds the normal operating range, the device will protect its internal components by attempting to regulate its temperature. If this occurs, you may notice the following:
    The device stops charging.
The display dims or goes black.
If the temperature continues to be a concern, you can isolate the issue by restoring your iPhone as new:

  • 15" MacBook Pro runs hot, fan is loud, and incredibly low battery life

My 15" MBP was bought in March or April (can't remember) from Singapore Apple Store. Here are the stats:
    MacBook Pro 15-Inch, Late 2011
    Memory 8 GB 12222 MHz DDR3
    Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
Also I'm using about 1/2 of the available 750 GB of storage.
    Here's what's up:
    1. The fans boot immediately after the computer is turned on and never stop, making everything much too loud...like a plane is taking off or something.
    2. The computer is WAY too hot. Right now I'm running Astrill, Chrome, Activity Monitor, and System Utility, and when I put my hands on the thing it feels like my fingers are going to melt.
    3. The battery life, even at a full charge, is about an hour overall, which ***** for so, so many reasons.
    Here's what I've tried:
    1. I took it to the Shanghai Genius Bar, but I think that the language barrier is impeding my ability to really say what's wrong. I backed up, and they wiped the hard drive, re-loaded the OS and put all my old stuff back on the computer. They also deleted SOMETHING from the Preferences part of the library, but I don't know what it was. Everything runs much faster now, but the fan, the heat, and the battery are still having their issues.
    2. I've checked the "all processes" CPU usage. There's nothing unusual (as far as I can tell), so I'm at a serious loss as to say why the computer is running so hard. Even with all the processing running as you see below, the fan's still blasting and I've lost 50% battery life in the past 40 minutes.
    3. I've tried the fix that requires deleting com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.desktop.plist.lockfile. It changed the way the desktop looked and absolutely nothing else.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help me! I'm a graphic designer and often run the CS6 Suite. (Currently, however, I am NOT running any Adobe programs and I'm still experiencing the problems.) It's really important that I am able to run Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign at once, and it CAN, but with the heat problems I'm having without ANY of the graphics stuff running, it worries me.

Just took another look at iStat Menus (I've only had it for a couple of days - I used to use the old iStat Pro widget) and it seems as if you can make fan speed defaults and use them instead of relying on your MBPs sensors to take care of the fans... see...
Might want to use that 'medium' speed (there by default as I know I didn't add it) and keep an eye on your temps. If you start heating up to much, go back to the 'Default'.

  • IPod stays on Pause ... Lower Battery Life?

Hey, We have an iPhone 3G and were wondering about the iPod part.
When we stop the music from playing we pause the song and navigate to the homepage. I notice though, whenever I pull out / put in my headphones the iPod feature opens and plays my last song. Or whenever we click iPod it plays my last song. Is the song thats staying on pause lowering my battery life? Or no?

    Bump!
has anyone had this prob? Please help me. Or where can I call or send it to and have it fixed.

  • Wireless driver triggers warm/hot macbook and low battery life after OS 10.8 mountain lion upgrade

    Hello frustrated Macbook users.
I have tried to get help on other Apple discussions but no one seems to want to help, they aren't actually reading my posts, or they hate me for some reason.
    No matter.
If you have a warm Macbook that has 2.5 hours of battery life where you used to have 4 or more, please do this simple procedure and write the result below.
    Turn OFF Airport wireless networking
Perform an SMC reset (Power Manager)
Connect an ethernet cable and use your Macbook normally. (but do NOT turn on wireless networking again)
How is your battery life after doing this?
I have a user over here who reclaimed decent battery performance if he doesn't use his Airport wireless.
    I need confirmation.
If so, I may get a USB wireless adapter and see if the battery life stays good.
Bonus points:  If you have a Mac compatible USB wireless adapter and got good results by turning off the built-in adapter, want to test it for me and report the results?
    Thanks and good luck!

    UPDATE:
Problem persists when using Recovery Partition.
Chance sthat it is third party softwae or updates is more or less eliminated.
Update 10.8.3 beta fixed the problem for one lucky early adopter.
Hypothesis: New battery charging algorithms programmed into Mountain Lion OS10.8 triggered problems from design flaws that were NOT an issue for OS 10.7 and before.
Battery replacements were successful where the replacement battery was built within tolerances that did not fail under 10.8's new charging algorithms. Other bateries did not meet those tolerances so you would get spotty results from battery replacements.  It worked sometimes, but not always.
OS 10.8.3 may have adjusted these algorithms to be less demanding on the features of the battery that were failing.
Official word from Apple is 'mum'.

  • Low battery life on new 4th generation nano?

I got a 16 gb 4th gen nano yesterday. When I first turned it on, I was pleased to see that the battery was almost completely full. I took it to work, and listened to it for about an hour total, coupled with playing games on it, the charge level had drop to near half, not once, but twice (I'd brought a charger with me - the Apple charger that was recalled yesterday, ironically).
Today, it was fully charged thanks to the new 4th-gen compatible new car charger I bought when returning the recalled adapter for a refund. With the slightly over an hour of playing music and playing games for not even an hour total; the battery is now out - I've got the low battery message on screen. Do new batteries need a few charge cycles before they hit max capacity or something? Tomorrow I may recharge it and just let it play on shuffle while I leave it alone and see how long it lasts, but it still seems like it lasted pretty short.
    Any thoughts?

I am having a similar problem with my nano 4g battery. I just bought this on Monday. Got it home, set the language, time zone and time then plugged it into my computer to synch it. When I got it out of the box it was 3/4 charged. Before the synch was even done the nano showed it was fully charged. After synching I unplugged it from the computer and clicked a few buttons on the nano and immediately a little sliver of the battery display had gone down! I hadn't even played 1 song yet.
I plugged it back into my computer and the nano still showed it fully charged. yet when I unplugged it, it still showed it as a little bit of the battery having been used. I played 1 or 2 songs and the battery went display went down a little more.
That night I plugged the nano into the wall with my adapter (we've had this one a while so it can't be one of the new ones that was recalled and we've charged other iPods with it) and let it sit overnight. The next morning I unplugged the nano clicked around on it a few times and again the battery display went down a sliver. I thought maybe it was a display issue, figured I'd take it to work and give it a try. After about 1-1/2 hours of listening (occasionally pausing it), the battery display was down to about 1/2.
I charged it again on the computer. This time it took between 1-2 hours on the computer for it to show fully charged. Brought it to work again today and the same darn thing is happening with the battery display. I have not tried running it overnight or for several hours to see if it drains completely.
I have it set to Energy Saver.
Are lots having these battery issues? Not sure if I should take it back to Best Buy and exchange it for another one just yet.
Brian, if you read this, did your restoring end up really helping? Seems like you shouldn't have to do that and re-install software that was already on the nano when you purchased it, but if that completely fixed your battery problem, I'll give it a try.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Low battery life after upgrade to iOS 4.3.1

Last weekI upgraded my iphone 4 32GB GSM to iOS 4.3.1 and noticed a huge difference in battery life. Now I hav to charge my battery 3 times in a day. Iam not a huge user and make normal calls,SMS and maybe 15mins of games in a day. Can someone tell me how to fix this other than switching off 3G, switching off push notifications etc which I hav already done without any success.

Some suggestions to helping battery life has been to reduce brightness and to turn off Ping in restrictions.

  • Low Battery Life?  Read This

Thought this might be helpful for others. I was getting some really bad battery life -- like 1:15 minutes the other day and couldn't figure out why. Then I opened Activity Monitor and I noticed the MS Excel and MS Word both had hung when I quit them. They had the CPUs pegged at a steady 50%. Once I force killed them, my battery life got much better. Since then I've been paying attention and about 50% of the time I find either word, excel or powerpoint have hung and pegged the CPU while exiting. When I make sure that isn't happening, and I set the screen at 7 bars, bluetooth disabled, wifi use, and hd activity I'm getting about 3:40 minutes are real use.
The crazy thing is that the MPB is so fast that even with word & excel hung I didn't notice any slow down in performance.

Thank's for the info. Could you please tell me what MS Office version you are currently using ? X or 2004 trial version ? How did you install the software ?
Office X does not seem to reproduce your problem. I installed it as any other app on my MBP through migration assistant, without problem. The only problem I got was related to the 2004 trial version already installed on the machine, which I had to get rid of using the MS Office uninstall utility + emptying the trash + restart..
