N82 Music Player

Hi,
I had a nokia 6233 earlier and the music player there was able to play all the files from a particular folder.
How do I do that here in N82?
Can somebody help?

Thanks Steve_p.Now I've confirmed with other 4 that the disappearance happens every time we reboot our n82 after recharge and pc suite has nothing to do with it(i use the 2nd way you mentioned). So it must be the default cheap sd card.I'm guessing we're all getting a new one.How we'll keep all the maps we downloaded and whatever else is preinstalled in there is another matter though...Cheers to Nokia for the kindness, respect and gratitude that shows to her victims..eer customers.
If you have a memory card reader then copy all the contents (remember to include hidden and system folders) from the old card to the new one using your PC and you will keep all your downloaded maps and other data etc.

  • N82 Music Player Broken :(

Recently I accidentally pulled out the USB cable whilst transferring music. Since then the music player fails to add music on the micro SD card to the music player (though it can still be played through file manager).
Tried reinstalling the firmware to no avail.
Also, does anyone know why I can't upgrade the firmware on the phone from 10 to 11 (can't remember the other numbers). I've heard one thing about it being O2 and another about it being in the UK

Your memory card is probably corrupted. You need to format it.
As for the firmware it's because you have a network branded model. Most networks are very slow to approve new firmware for use, thats if they bother at all. O2 UK is one of the worst offenders.

  • Cyrillic ID3 tags in Music Player

I have a n82 and love it, but I tried to loaded a cd album which contains Russian ID3, but when i try to view the artist, song, album names in the phones built-in music player all I see is weird characters as though my phone doesn't support non-Unicode text. I know for a fact that it displays files with Russian taext in the file name just fine and writes and read in Russian just fine but the ID3 tags are a bit tricky for it.
What can I do to make the music player display Russian ID3 tags properly?

as i know, sans serif doesnt provide unicode mapping. have you tried to change to arial unicode or others eg. code2000??
I'm using arial unicode ms to show japanese symbols, and it should work for cyrillic too, since cyrillic is also mapped in arial unicode. font changing is also affect in all app (i suppose), including java app.
my N73 ME APAC (indonesia) is only able to display latin chars,n by changing the font (that is supports unicode one), now my phone is able to show japanese symbol (including ID3 tag in music player).

  • 5530 music player not recognizing new songs

    hi all,
new problem for me. the nokia music player is not recognizing new music. it just files them under unknown. the files are properly tagged. the only way to get it to recognize the files is to format the sd card and put the music back on the card.
also after deleting music, the player still has the files in its unknown folder, even after updating the music library.
very frustrating as i use the phone everyday as my main music player. this problem has only turned up in the past couple of weeks, with me changing nothing else on the phone.
    any advise?
    Solved!

Hi, just try up this found somewhere-
You can do this to rebuild the library as it is corrupted.
    Restart your device and then refresh your library. If this doesn't help then;
Connect the phone to your pc/lappy and put in 'Data transfer' mode.
    To delete the library files:
    - Ensure you can see hidden files in Windows Explorer:
Windows Explorer .. Tools .. Folder Options .. View
Select "Show hidden files and folders"
    - Connect the phone to your PC using the USB cable in "Data transfer" mode
    - Find and rename (or delete if you're really brave) files with names like:
    E:\private\101FFC31\mpxv1.mpd
    E:\private\101FFC31\pcv5.mpd
    E:\private\101ffca9\harvesterdb.dat
(assuming the phone's mass memory / card has been connected as E)
Note that the folder names may be different and the files may have prefixes - eg: mpxv1.mpd could be called abcmpxv1.mpd.  Basically, you need to search under the Private folder for any files that look similar.
Now just refresh the Music Player library and the job is done.
This will take longer than normal as it's a complete refresh, but it should now work.
Please thank me by giving 'KUDOS' star. It will help me to serve you better.
Currently using N82 and 5230. Next would be N?

  • Hide ringtones from the Music Player [S60]

Tired of having your ringtones listed and played together with your music? Here's how you can hide the tones from the Music Player. This is applicable for Symbian phones only (N82, N95, etc.).
WARNING: The advise below involves changing folder attributes and using tools that might easily harm the file system of your phone! If unsure that you can handle the steps, better leave the ringtones be.
Note: Following the advise below will also hide the folder/files from the build-in File Manager.
To prevent a file or folder with ringtones from being listed in the MP3 player:
    1. Get yourself a file manager that allows you to change file/folder attributes. Y-Browser will do the job - http://www.drjukka.com
    2. Create a separate folder and place in it all the ringtones and melodies you want to hide from the player. I recommend using the memory card - this will help you repair the file system in case something goes wrong.
    3. Open the file manager from Step 1 (not the build-in File Manager) and navigate to the folder from Step 2.
    4. Change the attributes of the folder to 'System'. For Y-Browser highlight the folder and choose Options -> Attributes then set 'System' to 'Yes' and press Save.
    5. Exit the file manager and refresh the library of the Music Player. Now the folder/files are not shown in the Music Player/File Manager but are still listed on music file selection dialogs (like 'Ringing tone' option in Contacts).
You can also hide single files by setting their attributes to 'System'. I do not recommend this, though.
Please, have in mind that reverting the folder to non-system might not be possible (N82 + Y-Browser 0.88, for example). If this happens you need to move the files to another folder and then delete and recreate the folder. If you have set up the folder/files on the memory card, use a card reader or 'Mass storage' mode to connect to the computer and reset the attributes from there.

  • Music player: general system error & unable to pla...

been surfing the net for a few hours now and i can only find rather useless 'reformat memory card' and 'reformat phone' answers.
ive been messing about with the mp3 tags on my memory card because the music player had a lot of unknown songs in it.
after refreshing the library it still had some playlists and songs in it that i already deleted via the mass storage connection.
    sooo..
what i did was delete the following files:
    e:\private\101FFC31\mpxv1.mpd
    e:\private\101FFC31\pcv5.mpd
    e:\private\101ffca9\harvesterdb.dat
after starting up the music player it went on building a new library and i got the 'looking for new songs and podcasts' msg.
after 3 hours i checked my phone and it still had that message on it.
there are only 4 GB of mp3s on it so i thought something was wrong and i canceled the process and manually refreshed the library.
it did find all the songs but now it doesn't want to play any of them.
    * the memory card is ok. i checked it in another pc and all the mp3s play normally.
    * the memorycard works in the phone because sygic mcguider is still working normally as well.
    * when i remove the memcard and play a mp3 from the phone memory i get the same error.
    * but when i select a mp3 with the file manager then it starts up the music player and... plays the mp3!
    * when i exit the file manager i get the general error message again.
N82 with latest firmware and 16 GB sandisk memory card.
    ...help
    N8-00

If you've deleted those files. By the way, you need to delete those files in each one of the drives of the phone, not just the E drive.
Basically in each memory card and the mass memory similar files will be present, you need to wipe them all.
If you still can't get it working, then the only other option would be a reset. But you WILL lose data, so do it at you own peril.
    Here are some instructions.

  • E7 Symbian Anna music player vs N8 PR1.2 music pla...

Does anyone here happen to have both the E7 (with Symbian Anna), as well as an N8 9with PR1.2)?
If so, can you do a comparison of the Anna music player compared to the poor default player of the N8?
Are there any noticeable UI differences at all, or have Nokia plainly just neglected the music player entirely with the Anna update? Are we destined to continue using such a broken piece of music software until further updates? Have Nokia ignored all feedback relating to the N8's music player, and failed to rectify the problems which plague it currently?
I think many people will agree that the music player on older Nokia handsets is far superior than that of the N8, so I am wondering whether they have listened to complaints and fixed the problems which were reported (Ie, a major gripe was having the Artists and Albums combined)
Any heads-up of what to expect with our N8 Anna update would be very useful!

Well for starters, how are songs organised on the E7? Are artists and albums still grouped together, or have Nokia split them up as they should be?
One of the main problems of the N8 music player is that multiple artists who share an album name (Ie, "Greatest Hits") seem to get grouped together under just one album title. Is this still true on the E7?
Also, how are compilation albums displayed? This has also been an issue on the N8, mainly because artists and albums have been grouped together, rather than separately as per older Nokia devices such as the N91, N82, N95, and N96
Does Anna on the E7 feature a graphical equaliser? This was something else which was missing from the N8, but present on previous handsets.
Have Nokia added an alphabetical search field for the music player, as promised? With split-screen QWERTY text entry, there is now no reason why this should not have been added
Little things like these. How does the E7 Anna software compare to the N8 PR1.2 software? Or have Nokia just blatantly ignored the music player entirely?

  • Shuffle-function in music player

I recently bought the N8 and after spending a few days of tagging and downloading album art hours I finally managed to successfully transfer my mp3 library over to the phone with minimal errors occuring.
However, one thing that gives me a headache is that I just can't figure out how to turn the shuffle playback mode off. There's a button in the music player for turning it ON, but pressing it once again does not appear to de-activate the function, and I can't find a dedicated button for turning it off. Been searching all the menues for this too, but no luck...
Anyone got an idea how to solve this?

Select a song using the shuffle icon, then when it is playing select options and a different menu appears, one option of which allows you to select shuffle on or off.

  • Nokia 5800 Sound problems in music player

Having a weird problem with the music player.  When you choose a song to play, there is no sound unless you press either volume button, then the sound works normally.  I have tried this in all different profiles, with and without headphones and nothing seems to work.  Any ideas how I can get the sound back in the music player?

I don't know the exact solution to the problem but you may try to do a reset option. Sometimes with my N82 the sound just stops but the music is going. So i pause and play it again.
    Try this reset but-
Before perfoming this please take a backup of your data.
    Factory defaults-
Type *#7780# on your standby screen.
This will reset all your setting to default factory settings. User data wont be affected.
    Soft reset-
    Type *#7370#
This will reset the phone as well delete user data. Use when want to format the phone.
If none of these worked then you might want to do a hard reset.
    For this you have to-
    1. Switch off the phone.
    2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.( Just in case of N78 it will be the multimedia key the small silver key on right side & for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. For Nokia N97 is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE. )
    3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button to switch on the phone.
    4. Release the buttons when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
Please thank me by giving 'KUDOS' star. It will help me to serve you better.

  • No search option in music player Nokia N8

there is no search option in music player of nokia N8 like other nokia phone (N82 N72)
if we are in all song list and we want to play a song  how to search that song?
i have 14 GB songs in my N8  so it is very difficult to search a single song in vast list
plzz fix this issu in next firmware update

no offense, dude, but that was a stupid comment. obviously you are the one who has no clue and  doesn't know how to use the phone. everybody knows there's search widget that can do that, but it's just plain ridiculous.  it is as if you're suggesting that whevenever we want to text  a sms, we need to open "message" app, then go to main menu and open another "keyboard" app so that we could finally type something.
the feature of being able to find the song by typing the alphabet was there since N73. and it's so so so convenient.  it was fast and efficient.  another feature is the abilily to edit the songs details. it' makes selecting song and creating playlist like a breeze. i love nokia musica player because of this. these useful and practical features is something that other phone manufacturers still fail to offer. that's why nokia stood out. now in N8, all these were taken away. it's a major loss.
stop acting like a smart **bleep**, and make a fool out of yourself.
to Nokia, please solve this issue.  if this is the price that i have to pay to have the cover flow feature, i'd rather not have it. the cover flow is uselss to me, beside being eye candy

  • Hidden directory name for music player?

    I have the following problem:
I have 6230i and 4GB MMC plus card, that works quite well (with only small limitations)
I have a lot of mp3 files on this card. The problem is that the implicit playlist in music player is 'ALL' and searching for all mp3 files available takes a lot of time (10 min approx.) I expect that this behavior cann't be changed.
But the solution could be if there is possible to store the mp3 files I don't want to listen just now in directory of a name that the music player doesn't search into.
Is it possible? Does exist some directory name that is hidden for music player?
    Thanks for any hints

Ooops, sorry - I use to do Symbians mostly.
Well - workaround - connect the phone in Data transfer or directly connect the memory card to any computer and use Windows Explorer, then
