N82 Settings after Firmware

Hi guys, 2 questions.
1) What is the latest firmware for the N82
2) Can you firmware the phone, even to the same version and not retain the settings. Ie, take the phone back to its original settings, and deleting all user data, like the good old days
Thanks.
Mark

The latest version is v20 and it's very stable.
The N82 has UDP (user data preservation) so that you can update without losing your settings. You can't install firmware like you could on older models. UDP is on most new models now and is a truly excellent feature.
If you want to restore your phone to an out-of-the-box state you have to hard reset the phone. You can do this before or after the update.
Hard reset:
1. Switch off the phone.
2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.
3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button for a second to switch on the phone.
4. Release when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
It may take a few attempts and very flexible fingers!

  • Can't open Email Settings after firmware updated a...

    Hi,
I've upgrated my E71 with new 3.00 firmware yesterday and then restored phone memory from saved backup (yes, restoring is still a great pain for Nokia phones owners - you know, not all the software installed restores and so on, but that's another question).
Before this upgrade I had MfE and Nokia Email installed and one IMAP mailbox was set up in standard Messaging application. After restoring from backup Nokia Email was missing (backup problems I mentioned above) but I've reinstalled it successfully. MfE and Messaging mailbox also worked okay.
But today suddenly I discovered that when I try to open Settings / Email menu item at Messaging app, this app crashes silently. Strange, but when I'm accessing Email Settings menu item being at mailbox tab, I can see this mailbox settings. but when I try to enter global email settings for all mailboxes from the app main menu, application crashes.
I tried to add another mailbox using Settings Wizard - and it worked, additional mailbox appeared in Messaging app. But all the same with it - no access to global Settings / Email menu but  works okay when I open Email Settings directly from mailbox tab.
The thing is that I need to remove mailboxes from Messaging App and it can be done through this unreachable global Settings / Email menu only.
Another detail - when I change storage from phone memory to memory card in Settings / Other menu, my mailboxes disappear and the Settings / Email menu becomes accessible. And when I change storage back to phone memory, my two mailboxes are back again (and functional, as before), but when I try to open Settings / Email menu app crashes.
Please advise, because I really have no idea what to do. I assume that there must be a way to remove mailboxes manually, but what is it?
    Regards, Yuriy.

Well, the problem gone after I deleted MfE profile (I don't need it right now). This Settings menu is accessible again. Anyway, it was very strange and I can't predict if I will face it again after I add another MfE profile.

  • Problem accessing Time Capsule settings after firmware 7.3.1 upgrade

I understand there are similar posts, but none provide a solution to my problem:
I bought a brand new Time Capsule and set it up. Everything worked fine and I could access it using AirPort Utility. After the initial setup I immediately upgraded the firmware from version 7.3 to 7.3.1. Now, when I try to access or change the settings, AirPort Utility first reports that it is "Reading the Time Capsule configuration...", and after about 2 minutes I get the message
"An error occurred while reading the configuration. -- Please make sure your Apple wireless device is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6753)"
I performed a hard reset and could then access the settings again for another setup. At the end of the setup, AirPort Utility reports that it's "Writing the Time Capsule configuration...", and after about 2 minutes
"An error occurred while updating the configuration. -- Please make sure your Apple wireless device is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6722)"
I also tried to access the settings using a direct Ethernet connection to my iMac, but to no avail.
Now, even though I can't access the Time Capsule settings, which is annoying, the device seems to be working: it creates a wireless network and I can access the Time Capsule hard drive.
Any solutions to this problem? Is it possible to revert to firmware version 7.3? Or do I need to wait for a firmware upgrade?

Great, thank you! Looks like this solved my problem.
I performed the reset, and then restored firmware version 7.3 using your great advice to *press the option key when clicking "Check for Updates"*.
I then used the setup dialog, put it my info and passwords, restart... oops, once again, I can't access the settings, even though I'm using firmware 7.3 which used to work when I first set up Time Capsule when it was fresh out of the box.
Reset, do the same thing again, still can't access settings and can't upgrade the firmware.
Reset, *first thing upgrade the firmware to 7.3.1*. I put in my info again, and finally, everything works.
One note: I'm not sure if that matters, but in the last step, I set up Time Capsule using the window that you get when you click the Time Capsule icon in the AirPort Utility. Previously, I would click "Continue" in the AirPort Utility for the assisted setup. This might not matter, but I want to mention it anyways in case it helps replicate this solution.

  • Cannot retrieve internet settings after firmware u...

my E71 does not automatically retrieve the internet settings from SIM after i upgraded the firmware to 200.21.118. previously, it will automatically get the settings once i put different SIMs into it. i need this feature to work as i do switch operators often. how can i restore it?

The problem was solved. It apparently had to do with DNS server settings. I subscribe to Unblock-US here in Canada, and that messed up communication between the Bravia and the Sony servers. I have my DNS settings set on the router level, so what I had to is to simply bypass the router settings by setting new DNS addresses on the Bravia itself. I used the Google DNS for the Bravia:
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
Of course, with this configuration, I can no longer access US content on my Netflix on the Bravia television. What I find strange is that this was never a problem prior to the update, so I guess Sony is locking down on geoblocking with this latest update.

Hi, I have selected earse content and settings in general settings, after that my iphone displays
apple symbol only. Did i spoil my iphone?

It takes a very long time, depending on the size 8,16,32GB?
it can take over a few hours.
if it doesn't work over 24hrs connect it to a computer using itunes, and choose update, it'll update it with the newest firmware.

  • WRV210 loses port forwarding settings after reboot

Along with wireless problems that have already been documented about this device I am having problems with port forwarding where it will lose all its settings after losing its power.  I then try to go into the management for port forwarding and am not able to put the settings back in as every time I hit 'Save' it just loads the page back up with no settings applied.  Another strange thing is that the protocol comboboxes only have options for UDP or Both.
I then reapply the latest firmware and am able to enter the settings again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm at my wits end with this one.
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Recovered from disaster after firmware update 7.4.1

I have spent days trying to get connected to Airport Extreme Base station (two months old) after the last firmware update. I have seen many people with same or similar issues. The usual "doesn't detect wireless device" messages. I finally had some luck running from my clone drive using an older airport utility. At least I could get it to register the base station but only by using an additional ethernet patch cable to my laptop. Then it would allow me to adjust settings. Still things were not right. Connection was not good and I could not use the (802.11n(802.11b/802.11g compatible) settings at all. Sometimes I would get almost there and it would ask for my Network password and then say "connection timed out."
    Then I found this post:
    http://newtonpoetry.com/2008/08/18/airport-base-station-fix-revert-your-firmware /
Gave it a shot and everything is perfect now.
I reverted to older Airport Utility and older AE Base Station firmware
I downloaded and installed older airport utility 5.3.1, first deleting the old components:
    /Applications/Utilities/Airport Utility
    /System/Library/CoreServices/AirPort Base Station Agent
    /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.AirPortBaseStationAgent.plist
I had to delete the Agent while booted from another volume since system won't let you delete that. The older Airport utility installer may have replaced the newer one with the old one but I wanted to be sure.
Then I launched the old version of Airport Utility and followed directions, in the above url, to revert to the older firmware 7.3.1. Restarted laptop, opened Airport Utility and voila! Instant recognition. Changed a few settings including the (802.11n(802.11b/802.11g compatible) radio frequency and it all works flawlessly. Range is fantastic again. Very good speed.
I am not suggesting everyone revert to the older (less buggy?) updates but for me there was something very wrong especailly after Firmware 7.4.1. Hope Apple can make these more user friendly soon. I would love to know if anyone, or Apple, can tell me how to fix this issue using the latest updates. I tried every suggestion out there. Hard resets, restarting modem, turning off phones and other "interference", over and over with no luck.
    That's my story, so far.

Sorry... please disregard my previous question...
I've found out how to downgrade the firmware...
Of course!!! My connection is flying above 6Mbps again Whoa!!! I'm relieved...
For you folks who do want to find out how to downgrade:
    1. Reboot the time capsule
    2. Connect to it using the airport utility
    3. Hold Control/Option key and click File > Check for Updates
    4. Select the version you want to downgrade to, click Download
    5. When down load completes, click Base Station > Upload Firmware
Select the version that you just downloaded and submit...
Wait about 5 minutes and it will restart... this restart takes little longer than usual... but it will come back.
    Good luck all!!!

  • Lost Internet after firmware update!

I have use this router some years, and I have no problem, then I have made an Firmware update, and now sometimes I have lost internet, not connection but only Internet. Can I get a default firmware or where is problem?

I have also had problems connecting to the internet
I upgraded my WRT54G version 2 router's firmware to 4.21.1 last week, taking the opportunity to upgrade after the area I live in suffered a temporary power cut, which somehow caused my router settings to reset, even though the router was not switched on at the time.
Since upgrading I can connect wirelessly to the router, but I cannot access the internet via wireless. I am using exactly the same settings as I did before the upgrade and also made a backup of these settings after the upgrade, but every day I attempt to connect wirelessly I lose my net access again (but by restoring the backup settings - the very same settings already held by the router - I regain my net access, but then the next day I have to repeat the whole process.
Yesterday I tried disabling the wireless security, which allowed me to access the net again, but soon as the security is re-enabled, the problem reoccurs.
I have a laptop, a desktop and 2 PS3s connecting wirelessly via the router and have had no problem with any of them until this upgrade. I have just reapplied my wireless settings & will try again tomorrow and will attempt using a wired connection and post an update as soon as i'm done.

  • Installing Certificates on N95 after firmware V11

    Hi
trying to install a self certified certificate for our work email server on an N95 as well as for our Wireless access at work. I was able to do this when I first had my N95 with firmware version 10, the certificate appeared in Tools / Settings / General / Security / Certificate Management. WLAN and secure connection via Road Sync worked fine.
However after upgrading top V11 and now V12 this functionallity seems to have changed. I have copied the .cer file on and clicked the file in File Manager but get an error message "Unable to open. File type not supported" so cannot install the certificate this way.
Internet suggests browsing to the web site that the certificate is used on and the certificate should then appear in Certificate Management, this no longer works.
Has anyone got their own certificate on to an N95 after firmware v10?
    Thanks in advance.

I have wasted a lot of time trying to get my E51 to load a self-signed certificate. I have the latest E51 firmware. I have tried every trick I have found on the web and in this thread to no avail. My other phone is a HTC 8525 and it works fine with the same certificate. I also followed the instructions in the Nokia Mail for Exchange documentation to load certificates. The certificate is already in the format described in the Nokia documentation but in frustration I have tried every other format as well as renaming the certificate.
If I load the certificate onto the phone using PC Suite and then use file Manager to open it, I get "Unable to open. File type not supported"
If I upload the certificate onto a web server and then point to it with the web browser I get a 'File Corrupted' error.
Can anyone point me to what I am doing wrong? I really don't want to give up this phone but it is useless if I cannot get my work meial to function properly. It will be back to my Windows Mobile phone....

Thanks for the response. There is no cloud icon next to them. All of the songs play on the phone still and no song was purchased through iTunes. I added them manually and tried to remove them manually. According to my iTunes they've been removed but they are still on my phone and working.

Thank you wjsten for your soon reply. Unfortunately on these days I'm in a country that Apple don't have any retail store here and for sake of time I prefer to fix it myself to DHL it to the nearest country to use its warranty. Do you have any idea how can I fix it? Do you think it's a software issue?

The funny thing is - the notes are synced???? If I restore some old contacts they'll double up in outlook, so I think the problem is, that the sync app doesn't see the outlook contact & calendar folder.

    Hi cfgolf,
Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities. I agree with your assessment that something is going on with that previous backup. If you restored from that backup and the issue continues, I would recommend restoring and Set up as new. Before you restore, make sure you Transfer content so that you can sync it back after setting up as new. The instructions on how to Transfer content and Set up as new are both listed in this article.
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4137
    2. Transfer content
Before you erase your device, take a few minutes to transfer your content from your device to your computer to ensure that all your critical data is safe.
    6. Set up as new
Complete the setup assistant. When prompted to set up your device, select Set Up as New iPhone and tap Next to continue.
Skip the Apple ID sign-in, in case the original issue was related to any of your content on iCloud.
Note: After setting up as new, you will need to enter the Visual Voicemail password for iPhone (on carriers that support Visual Voicemail). If you've forgotten the password, contact your carrier to help you reset it.
After erasing and setting up as a new device, your device is now in a factory configuration. Test to determine if erasing and setting up as a new device resolved the issue. Content on the device may have caused unexpected behavior.
If the issue is still present, you may want to contact Apple Support.
If the issue is now resolved, sync one type of content at a time back to the device. For example, if you had an issue playing music, add songs from iTunes and confirm they will play. If your contacts weren't loading successfully, add the contacts back. After each sync, test to see if the issue has returned.
    Cheers,
    -Joe
