N85 keypad backlight problem

I find an annoying problem with the backlight, if I power on the phone in complete darkness there is no backlight on the keypad, so I couldn't key in my PIN correctly and will lockup the SIM !!

Just try to reset the factory settings to default.

  • N80 keypad backlight problem

    Hi
I've got problem with my Nokia N80
The backlight of the "down" keypads (buttons: 1234567890*#) doesn't works. I am not the first owner of the phone, and I am not sure what is the problem, but I'm sure that the phone never felt down in water or something else.
There is backlight only in two cases:
    -when the phone get start, there is backlight in these keypads, until the Nokia ring and the logo with the two hands shows - then the backlight disappear;
-when the phone is in SILENT mode without neither vibration, nor rings; if there is an incoming call and if the phone is "opened" - all backlights is blinking (including the "down" keypads).
Any advice? Maybe the light senzor is broken, or maybe softwear bug (when i bought it, was with soft. ver.: 3.0617.0.6, then I update it to 5.0719.0.2, but the problem doesnt fix).
    Thanks in advance.

  • N85 keypad light problem

My n85 numerical keypad approximately 5 seconds after the light is off, the buttons on top of the light is on normally, pressing the numeric keys the light side still does not open when you on/off keylock or slide open and close keypad light back normal(on)

it is most probably a bug in the firmware, the only solution to this issue would be to wait for a release of another fimware hoping that this might get solved, tho it does not have to. i had issues with the keypad on the frist firmware but that got fixed since v11....was released

    Welcome to the Palm Forums,
Just as a heads up typing in CAPS in forums signifies that your yelling.
About how long had you had this type of problem if it is since you had the device how long was that? Also do you sync your device to a PC?

  • E63 light sensor & backlight problems

    Hi
I have got a new E63 and while I have seen plenty of discussions surrounding the problems with the light sensor not recognising darkness (not switching the keypad light on) I haven't seen any conclusive answers on how to fix this. It's only worked once in the week I've had the phone.
I was using the phone (the screen was still lit up) and I put it in my pocket and then took it out a second later and the keys were all lit up but when i put it in my pocket a second time and took it out it just as quickly it stopped working again and the keys were not lit up this time??? I have the latest firmware installed. (100.21.110) I haven't contacted Nokia yet but does anybody an E63 with a light sensor/keypad backlight that actually works properly?
Anybody know how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance...

Right! I think I have found the problem! The keypad backlight DOES work consistently. This must be a battery saving technique which is actually pretty cool but there is still a slight problem...
If you unlock the phone in a dark room (doesn't have to be pitch dark) the keypad lights up as the light sensor thinks there's not enough light for you to see the keys. If you switch a light on, the keypad lights go out. If you then switch off the light so the room is dark again the keypad lights won't come on. You have to wait till the screen light goes out then press a key and the keypad lights up again. I have done this 5 or 6 times in a row now and the slight problem it seems is that the light from the screen leaks into the light sensor so it doesn't recognise darkness until the screen light goes out. Hope this makes sense. This seems like a bit of a design flaw in the placement of the light sensor as it is obviously too close to the screen, which is why it thinks there is light in the room if the screen light is on
Hmm, come on Nokia, how can you overlook that one?

  • E65 light sensor not working, keypad backlight no...

    Hi,
If anybody knows how to fix this. Pls help ?
I got this e65 and realized that the keypad backlight doesnt not work, even in total darkness. Looks like the ambient light sensor has gone kaput.
Will be most thankful, if anyone knows how to fix this.
    cheers,
    Mohan

I got a nokia 65 early this year and the keyboard backlight conked out. I took it to the nokia service center and after 3 weeks of tinkering they replaced the e65 unit completely with a brand new unit, this worked fine for about a month, and then it also had the keyboard backlight conk out. Im still waiting for nokia to get a replacement part this is going 3 weeks. I did a google search on "nokia e65 backlight problems" and lo and behold I am not alone. This seems to be a common problem enough to produce several google hits. The E65 has a hardware problem with the keypad backlight in particular. I am not sure if they have solved this problem, frankly im reaching the point of demanding a refund or credit on the unit I got so i can get a nokia n95 or e90 which seems to have a better quality control. Maybe nokia should consider recalling the E65 models. Its gotten so bad because my company purchased about a dozen E65 and about 4 units including mine have experienced problems with the keypad backlight conking out. Right now i cannot SMS in the dark.

  • IPod backlight problem...

Why isn't my iPod touch 2G 16GB's display not turning on? I know it's a backlight problem because I can faintly see the apple logo sometimes.

  • Nokia N85 so many problems but no responce from No...

I’ve now read lots of complains concerning the N85; loose slider, rebooting, video recording is hopeless and so on. I’ve have for now 12 days been the owner of two N85, and I’m sorry to say, that I agree with the mentions complains. I’ve Nokia fan for years and had own about 8 differenced Nokias and none have been so defective. And worse - no response from Nokia.
I can only recommend not to buy a N85.

Name these supposed Nokia phones that you had that have not had as many problems.
No one here says that the N85 is without problems. It has a few. Your slider issue is well relative. On my N85, my friend thinks my slider is great, as do I but I like the slider on his more, so your statement about the loose slider is more opinionated than fact. The other things are software related and if you know anything about embedded software development (it appears you do not. I could be wrong though), it takes time to write the code, put it on a ROM and test it. It is not a 5 minute fix and in this case I would rather Nokia take a month to fix it right than to rush it and have certain people come back and post that Nokia issued a **bleep** patch. You surely catch my drift. It is quite simple. Look to the upper right hand corner of your web browser, hit the Contact Us button and let fly your screed. I am sure they will hang on to every word you say. But for the time being, give it a rest. We all get it, over and over and over. My N85 has issues that I want addressed but filling up a forum with the same kind of posts is not going to make Nokia work any faster.
P.S. Please name these phones you have had that have no major issues (hardware does not count) related to software (this is easy to fix). By the way, I have had almost every major Nokia device produced, to include the original Communicator. Mine was production model 102, so I have quite a bit of experience with Nokia products.
Your recommendation not to buy an N85 is falling on deaf ears because currently here in Finland and elsewhere, the N85 is doing quite well.

  • T420: Backlighting problem

Hello everyone, I have a Thinkpad T420 (6 months old) and I think I have a backlight problem. The backlight vanish at the startup of the computer and when I boot in Safe mode. Can anybody helps me ? Thanks !

Hmmmm ... have you tried increasing the brightness? Any on screen display showing the brightness bars?
You can try uninstalling power manager, power management driver and hotkeys package then do a reboot then install all 3 again and see if it helps.

  • Keypad Backlighting Issue - BB Pearl 3G

Just recently I bought BB Pearl 3G and after 2 days of using it I'd encountered not so nice thing.  I got surprised when for no reason the keypad backlight of my phone was not working.  I tried to look for the screen/keypad option but found nothing with regards to this issue.  I took out the battery of my phone and waited for 5 minutes to get it back to its working condition.  I just want to ask, why does it happened?  How to avoid it next time

Sorry, we communicate here in the Forums, in this thread you've started, not via email.
Do this, take your device in a dark or dimly lit room and cover the top right hand corner LED area with the palm of your hand.
Do you see the keyboard backlight brighten?

  • E71 Keypad backlight not switching on!

When in dim light  the key the keypad light is not coming on when i press any key. I have looked in the manual, tried different settings for the sensor and looked at online forums. No solution exists. The only way to make it work is by blocking the sensor with your finger. Obviously this is not a good solution.
Is this a malfunction or is Nokia stupid to design the phone like this?  On any model of Nokia on the press of a key the keypad backlight should come on. What's going on here?
    PLEASE HELP.

    vp001 wrote:
thanks but it still does not work in a dim room. really annoying. on the press of a key it should work in light or no light...thats how all other nokia models work. but e71 has this defect.
E71 does not have this defect, but perhaps your phone does. My E71 works as expected. You may have a faulty light sensor. Contact a Nokia Customer Care centre.
