the keypad issue is a software bug, that since has been fixed i believe. the only way you can update your handset is when orange actually approves the update. you would have to contact them and ask when and if they are planning to release the update for orange customers. if your phone is locked and branded the only way you can update is through your provider.

  • Nokia N85 so many problems but no responce from No...

I’ve now read lots of complains concerning the N85; loose slider, rebooting, video recording is hopeless and so on. I’ve have for now 12 days been the owner of two N85, and I’m sorry to say, that I agree with the mentions complains. I’ve Nokia fan for years and had own about 8 differenced Nokias and none have been so defective. And worse - no response from Nokia.
I can only recommend not to buy a N85.

Name these supposed Nokia phones that you had that have not had as many problems.
No one here says that the N85 is without problems. It has a few. Your slider issue is well relative. On my N85, my friend thinks my slider is great, as do I but I like the slider on his more, so your statement about the loose slider is more opinionated than fact. The other things are software related and if you know anything about embedded software development (it appears you do not. I could be wrong though), it takes time to write the code, put it on a ROM and test it. It is not a 5 minute fix and in this case I would rather Nokia take a month to fix it right than to rush it and have certain people come back and post that Nokia issued a **bleep** patch. You surely catch my drift. It is quite simple. Look to the upper right hand corner of your web browser, hit the Contact Us button and let fly your screed. I am sure they will hang on to every word you say. But for the time being, give it a rest. We all get it, over and over and over. My N85 has issues that I want addressed but filling up a forum with the same kind of posts is not going to make Nokia work any faster.
P.S. Please name these phones you have had that have no major issues (hardware does not count) related to software (this is easy to fix). By the way, I have had almost every major Nokia device produced, to include the original Communicator. Mine was production model 102, so I have quite a bit of experience with Nokia products.
Your recommendation not to buy an N85 is falling on deaf ears because currently here in Finland and elsewhere, the N85 is doing quite well.

  • N85 Music player problem

Hi Appreciate your help here. I've loaded quite a few albums to my N85 using Win media player 11. The problem is that some tracked in some albums appear twice!! If I do nothing they also play twice. If I erase one of the double tracks the other one gets corrupted. Meaning it will not play and will not erase. I tried powering the unit down, removing the SD card powering up and inserting the card and nothing. By the way when I connect the N85 to the Win media player the corrupted file does not even appear. This is a very annoying problem because it happened once to ALL my files and I needed to master reset the unit. Please help.Ami

  • N85 - Video Playback problem

Occasionally my N85 will stop being able to play any sort of video. Unlike other known issues with similar names, it does not freeze part-way through a video.
When the problem is active, any attempt to play a video with any app (camera, RealPlayer, Gallery browser) results in no sound and a black screen/RealPlayer logo. The video counts down as if it is playing.
It seems to be caused by
    a) Installing a video application (YouTube, BBC iPlayer etc)
    b) copying a video onto the phone using the video manager.
Obviously "b" is more of a problem.
I have so far been able to work around this by restoring the phone to factory defaults whenever it happens, but this is not really ideal. It takes a few minutes every time, and longer to restore my customizations. I was hoping this would be fixed in the recent firmware update, but no such luck.
    Any thoughts?

you should post this to N85 issues and feed back.. N85 having alot alot of bugs... u can see more other major bugs

  • N85 video recording problem

hi, I´ve got a serious problem with my N85. When I try to record a video in high-TV-quality(to my microSD card) it starts to lag extremely after about 8 sec., same problem with normal TV-quality after 30 sek..
Another interesting part is that after I stop the recording the video is saving for about 10 sec.!(even if the video is only 1 sec. long)
It works fine if I save videos to internal memory! My 8GB card is original and only 45% filled (so about 3.6GB free)
But now the interesting Part: It worked fine before(with the same SD card), the video didn´t lag and it was saved in about 1 sec. I didn´t add anything to my phone, so what could be the problem??
    thanks for your help

I´ve testet the problem for a few weeks now and I noticed something. the video stuttering is gone when I delete older videos(they have to be older than 4 days), after i do that I can record a video up to a length of 10 min(or even longer, if I had time to try) but after 1 video the effect is gone, even if I delete the just recordet video. I also experienced that deleting a good video(non-stuttering) takes a lot less time than to delete a lagging one.
to sapporobaby: it sure is the way date is being written to the card, cause it is working if I record to phone memory, but I didn´t buy a Nseries device to capture videos with only 2 min. length.
Furthermore this problem is not listet in the changelog for the new SW
    can anyone help me?

You could try to hard format the phone. Keep in mind this procedure will completely erase all your phone's contents (3rd party apps, settings, wifi access points, contacts, themes, web bookmarks, etc), so first you will need to backup the phone using Nokia PC Suite.
    Here's how to do it:
Power off the handset, hold * 3 and the Green call button and switch on the phone. keep the keys held until the phone is fully powered up.
It's a bit difficult, precisely because Nokia wants to avoid users accidentally formatting their phones.
Once the phone has been formatted you will need to reinstall NGage (you can download it and install it directly from the phone browser), and possibly some other applications that came with your N85, so I recommend you to first make sure you can get the apps for reinstallation.
I don't know if this will solve the problem but other than the hassle of backing up the info and reinstalling the apps, it's worth a try in case you can not locate the offending 3rd party application.
    Good luck!

  • [N85] USB charging problem

    Hello all,
I tried to charge my N85 with an [non-Nokia] USB battery charger (Lenovo 90W Slim AC/DC Combo Adapter) via the Nokia Connectivity Cable (CA-101) to keep down the amount of chargers I have to carry.
But except of asking, which data connection profile I want to use, there is no charging at all.
Am I doing something wrong or is the N85 only chargeable by the original Nokia wall charger?
    Thank you

@sapporaby: Are you sure you have read my post completely? "Apple" is a brand o usb charger that does not work with my Nokia N85. It's a brand like "Kensington", with a usb charger that do work. Both usb charger worked with my old Nokia N95. I just want to know whether someone else has this problem usb charging problems too or if only my problem, and to make know @sicut that he is not the only one with usb charging problems with his Nokia N85 and his Lenovo charger.
@sapporaby, is it "apple" a word taboo for you? Why "kensington" is not taboo? Why "lenovo" is not taboo either?
    1. I have had every Mac made since 2003.
    2. I am typing this on a Mac now.
    3. I have had and still have every iPhone made.
    4. Same with every brand iPod.
    5. I am running Apple software right now and the Nokia for Mac software.
Is that taboo enough for you? DON'T ASSUME because now your taboo question is moot.
As for your the Apple charger does not work issue, my question still stands. While your Apple charger may have worked with your N95 there is no reason why it should work with your N85. Are they the same phone?. Is the N85 made by Apple? No again. Does the Apple charger supply the same charging voltage as the Nokia charger that came with the phone? These are issues that come into play. What is so hard to use the cable that came with the phone. It seems, and maybe I am wrong but you and the OP are making a mountain out of a moe-hill.
Just use the cable that came with the phone, in the USB port of your computer and be done with it. I am having a very hard time trying to understand what the problem is with using the cable.

  • N85 lots of problems

I've had the n85 for 5 months now and for the majority there has been no problems and its been working fine. But over the last 2 weeks it has gone into melt down.
First the earphone jack stopped working properly not recognising the earphones at random.
And at the same time the keypad on the front started to lift.
I brought the phone to a nokia care point and after 2 days I went back and all they had done is update the firmware! Waited 10 more minutes for them to quickly put a new keypad onand they said everything was fixed.
Since then the keypad is sticky. The earphone problem hasn't been fixed and I have a few new problems.
The phone now turns off constantly (every 5 mins). When it does stay on it reboots. It dies after about 8 hours no matter how long it charges for. When its on the power button won't respond to turn it off. When its off it vibrates as if its turning on but doesnt. It sometimes makes a high pitched sound when off. Its basically not functionable.

    I did this -
    2. *#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)
backed up to my memory card and it seemed okay until i turned it off and its gone crazy again.Phone keeps vibrating turning on and off

  • N85 HandSet Audio Problems

I received my N85 not so long ago... November 15th, but already it is having a very annoying problem.
When I call or receive a call i cann't hear from the handset.. it works sometimes but very garbled and most of the time i cannot hear anything at all but the other person says they can hear me.
The weird thing is that once i turn on loudspeaker the i can hear the other person perfectly and clearly.
This same problem occured on my N95 and when i changed the microphone at the bottom it worked fine... but then again that phone had a lot of usuage and was quite old.
This phone however is brand-spanking new therefore I would not expect it to have such a major hardware flaw... Should i return it to the retailer or is there another way that i can fix it or maybe there is something i'm doing wrong?
Also, I have not dropped the phone at all... it has been guarded and treated with the utmost care and responsibility so therefore I have no reason for it to malfunction.
    Please HELP!
    Thanks,
    - MoWGLI

Hi, I bought this phone in December.  It was working fine up until about January when all the sudden I had similar problems with the handset.  The volume on handset would shift from really loud to nothing at all while I talked on the phone.  I tried adjusting the slider to see if that was the problem and found that whenI have to hold the phone really tight together the audio volume stays stable and I'm able to clearly hear the other person.  I sent the phone for repair.  The good news is I received my phone back in a week; however, when I got it back they said they couldn't find any problems.  The notes said they update the software (it was already at v. 11.047 when I sent it and when I checked my phone it didn't list any new update in the device manager) and they restored the phone back to factory settings.  I'm still having the same problem. I did speak with customer service for my Phone Service Provider to see if maybe it has something to do with the SIM card since it doesn't say 3G on it.  I'm going to pick up a new SIM card today to see if that solves the problem.  If not, I plan to send my phone back for repair.

  • Nokia N85, and my problems with the Nokia N96

    Hi there,
First of all, i have both phones (after buying the n85, because of issues with the N96), when i go to send a large file from the n96 to the n85 via bluetooth, it wont allow it as it says not enough memory, it seems that you can only send, what free memory your phones internal system has, im deeply confused as the video im sending is over 88mb, and was passed down from my previous nokias without any problems whats so ever, any ideas anybody??????
Secondly i feel a fool, as i bought like i said the n85 because of the problems with the and i quote" flagship model n96".... well, i can honestly say, ive wasted my money, because after installing the newest firmware 11 on it, it has since been running like a dream, albeit like it should have done last month, but i musnt grumble, now i need to decide which one to put on an auction site.
ps the n96 was bought with 3 network, the other from an auction site, both work fantastically well with the 3 network.
    ashton

Hi, beg to differ, I would sell the 96. The 85 is far better,OLED screen; a battery that lasts for days not hours; FM transmitter for when you are in your mates car who doesn't have a bluetooth radio; it breathes!!! is sleeker and of course it has a lens cover, for crying out loud why didn't they fit one to the 96!

Same problem here with a 3500 on both Vista & XP computers. USB cables (yes I tried two different ones) & computers work fine - can transfer data no problem in data transfer mode. But in Nokia mode? Well PC suite knows the phone is there but you can't do anything with it.
I've disabled the firewalls & there's no AV software present on either PC.
The silence on this issue is deafening.
Nokia 6300 here and Nokia PC Suite is on and running in tray, but can't do anything with it. When shutting down the computer it says "Nokia PC Suite Responding... " and so on.
This is no solution but here's a way to make backups (OS: Win):
Navigate to PC Suite's install folder (default C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia PC Suite 7) and find ContentCopier.exe and run it. Now just do the backups like you'd normally do.
My version of PC Suite is Nokia_PC_Suite_7_1_26_0_fin.exe and I haven't tested any other versions. I tried to re-install, uninstall & install and repair install multiple times but still no good. I even deleted all Nokia related files from my C:/ drive and checked Nokia start-up services via msconfig.
This has to be fixed quickly

  • N85 Navigation panel problem

Hi guys, maybe one of you can help me out? My N85 seems to be still working however the cover navigation panel and buttons are not working. I can not press any button to answer. Basically all I can use is the Keypad. Is there something I can do to try to reset the phone or or I have to get it sent to to get fixed?
Thanks in advance for any good given.

    Does the green key work?
    Do the following:
    1. Remove battery for 10 min and power up.
    If it still doesnt work,
    2. Type in *#7370# and enter security code (warning, data will be lost, so back up in PC suite is recommended)
    If still doesnt work
    3. Repeat number 1, but when powering up you should be holding green, 3 and * keys until you see country selection/

  • N85 screen rotation problem

I see a demo on Youtube about the N85 screen rotation, it shows the screen zooming in and out while rotating, but mine running on v11 only blanks out and comes back without zooming, can anyone tell me what firmware version has this effect, I still can't get any update on my RM-333 on NSU.

    Hi,
I'm not sure in which version of firmware this effect turns available, but you'll have to turn it on. Find your way to were you change your theme, push the "option"-button and you can find the option "theme-effects" or alike. Turn it on and enjoy!
Just as you know different themes got different effects; fading, zooming and so on. Try and you'll find out.
