N85 Photos application broken

Seem to have posted this in the wrong forum, so here is the original post again:
-- BEGIN
Not sure whether it was fully working beforehand, but I can't remember having had any issues prior. Ok, what did I do? I transferred an entire library to my N85, like 1000+ pictures with extensive tagging. I then browsed my picture library and realized that the application seemed to start not hanging, but first, not displaying the pictures properly anymore (remained in the initial blurry state), and then only displayed the broken image logo (if you don't know what it is, I don't know how to better explain it) [Retrospective Note: I was deleting certain images while browsing, so I didn't just browse]. Trying to switch the phone off and back on didn't solve the issue, and most operations resulted in a "General: System Error"! Thinking I've added too many images to my phone, I've deleted the entire library again, and only added a few selected images, like 19 to be exact. But, the problem persists. I can't even look at these few images anymore. Sooner or later, I'll get the same symptoms. And operations on these images, like tagging, result in a "General: System Error"! What I've also realized, is that my phone memory, all of a sudden, is only like 24MB. Even though before it was like 58MB. And I have definitely not added anything to my phone memory. So, does anyone have any idea as to what has happened here, and how to fix it?
And yes, the rest of my phone seems to be working fine still, I can even select a slide-show as my wallpaper, select a few of these images, and these display all fine in the wallpaper.
One other thing to add (and I hope I'm not being too verbose, but I may add anything I've noticed just in case it may help with the diagnosis): After I had deleted my library again, the tags remained in the phone, and even though there were no more images on the phone, not all of the tags showed 0 images, some of the tags still showed images, though when clicking on the tag, no images were shown. So, did something maybe not clean up properly?
Any help with this would be much appreciated!!
-- END
I've tried a lot of things, inclusive of re-formatting the memory card, but all solutions seem to be only temporary. Here's one solution I've found that indeed temporarily fixes the problem:
1) Attach N85 with USB cable to computer in Mass storage mode.
2) Delete the following folder on the memory card: /private/101ffc31
That folder contains the file glxmdstn, which seems to be the thumbnail cache for the Photos application. Once this folder is removed, and the Photos application is started, it'll create all the thumbnails again from scratch, and then the Photos application seems to work in all its glory.
For a certain amount of time that is. I'm not sure what action exactly breaks it, for some time, I thought it was deleting an image, as I was able to actually reproduce it twice.
I've deleted the cache, played with it for quite some time, no drama, deleted an image, and within a short amount of time, the issue arose again. I've done the same thing again, and the exact same thing happened. Though that wasn't it. As I've then encountered the same problem, looking at images with particular tags.
Removed the cache again, even added another hundred pictures, and it's been working. Deleted a couple of images again, same problem. Deleted the cache again, now working. Have browsed images over and over, even from within the tag menu, and no drama so far, so I wasn't able to reproduce the issue by browsing by tags. Only deleting images seems to be a sure way to reproduce the issue so far (unless even that's a fluke). But something seems to be corrupting the thumbnail cache, somehow. And once corrupted, the photo application then doesn't seem to be able to deal with it anymore. Deleting the thumbnail cache works every time though. I'm trying to use it now without deleting any images, to see how long I can go without running into the same issue again.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be glad to hear them. And no, I have no idea why half my available phone memory has suddenly disappeared on me, but the last time I remember it being 50+MB was before I moved my photo library over, but that may be completely unrelated at the end, unless tagging and album management is somehow stored on the phone? And yes, I've read about resetting the phone to factory defaults, though I'd rather not, and I'm currently not even sure it would fix anything, given removing the thumbnail cache seems to do the trick.
Thanks!

"What im trying to say is as long as you have all the activation codes for your Nokia Maps, N Gage games and any 3rd party apps re setting a handset is not so hard and does not take that much time."
That's right, it didn't take all that much time. What will take a lot of time though, as it seems, is to get all my N-Gage scores back. All my hard earned status and all that poker money --> GONE. My millions and millions of Asphat 4 dollars --> GONE. Even my pickup point score, as it seems --> GONE. What's more, my phone thought it would be clever to overwrite my profile settings in the arena with the empty default it had in my phone. That Photos app is better going to work from now on without any drama. If it turns out I did all that for nothing, I won't be happy, not the least bit, and I'll start cursing at Nokia just as some other people here seem to be doing.
In retrospect, a re-format of the phone memory is not a resolution anyone should have to resort to in the first place. But I guess I've learned something today.
Cheers!

  • "Captured" images in Photos application on FP2 pho...

I have some photographs taken on a Nokia N96 that are only viewable under the "All" option in the Photos application. They don't show up in "Captured" or "Months".
Is it possible to these images recognised as captured photographs by the device?
    Thank you!

My N85 (RM333 - 11.047) experience - might be similar for you people.
I cleared my "Captured Images" via Nokia Photos (which only copies). I then went back and selected all my images on the phone and deleted them. Since then any photo i take no longer shows up in "Captured Images", but this is what I discovered.
The images are stored on the SD card inthe default "Images" directory where it creates (by default) monthly folders into which it stores the images... eg, 200902 for Feb.
Since I cleared the gallery the by default creates a new directory called "Camera" under the default "Images" directory and into this directory creates monthly folders into which it stores the images. As a result the images now appear in "ALL" but not in "Captured Images".
If I shift the monthly image directories from "Camera"  back under "Images" still no joy. But if I turn the phone off and on - it will display the shifted images in "Captured Images". If I then go a take a new image it sticks back into the "Camera" directory. If I delete the "Camera" and try again (even with powering the phone off and on) it just re-creates the "Camera" directory and ditto all over again.
This definitely a bug in the firmware. So I am going to try a few ideas I think will work and will re-post back here ASAP. Hope this was of some help because it's been a frustrating experience...

Known bug.  Quit the Camera App, double-tap the home key and delete Camera from the recent apps bar. Fire it up again, should be good.

It depends upon the capabilities of your printer. If you have an HP printer with a photo tray then the Photo app will print to whatever size you load in to that tray.
    There's some more information here:
Using AirPrint to Print Various Photo Sizes
With other printers the user is given a choice from the printer's loaded paper sizes. You can see an example of that here:

  • How do I move a photo into an album in the new Photos application?

How do I move a photo into an album in the new Photos application?

The simplest way is to show the Sidebar at all times - you can reveal it with options-command-S  ⌥⌘S.
With the sidebar visible, you can simply drag the photos from the Moments or other albums to the album in the sidebar. You can select and drag multiple photos at a time by selecting the first photo, holding down the shift key and selecting more photos.  If the album does not yet exist, select the photos and press ⌘N for "File > New album" to create a new album with the selected photos.

  • IPhone 4 camera and photo application not working!!

My iphone 4 camera and photo applications do not work anymore. When I tried to take a picture, the camera froze. I turned off my phone and when i turned it back on, the app will load, but when i tap to take the picture it returns to the home screen. The picture library application does the same thing. I try to load my picture library and when I tap to open it, it returns to the home screen.
I have tried turning it off and on multiple times and also turned it off for an extended period of time and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions on what the problem could be or possible ways to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Tap Settings App>General>Reset, near bottom of list>Reset All Settings. If this does not help you could try a Restore with iTunes, and when asked at end Set Up as New. If this does not help and you have Warranty or AppleCare Coverage take iPhone to Apple for resolution.

  • Photo application won't open anymore on my ipad

I have about 8gb of pictures on my 64gb ipad and been syncing it on the iphoto on my mac. Ive been doing that for quite sometime and working perfectly but after i used faces on my mac and synced it again, Photo application on my ipad wont open anymore. I tried to reset it soft and hard but nothing happens. I tried to erase all the pics except for the saved photos but it still wont open. I know the pics are saved in my ipad cause i can view it via other applications like photo chest but i cant open it via Photo Application. I am in desperate need pls. Thanks.

It's been a while since your post, but if you haven't gotten the issue fixed, you could try a restore from within itunes on your computer. This will replace the OS on the ipad and since the photo app is included in that, it may fix your problem.

  • Photos not shown in Photos-Application any more

Suddenly the pictures i have taken with the phone do not show up any more in the standard photos application.
It shows only one picture this month..... but they are still existing on phone memory.
Looks like the library information are corrupted.
Anybody having an idea how to restore? Can do that with music, but could not find it in photos-application ?

When working with pictures it is easy to find the library files.... i have deleted them all, and on restart they are automatically rebuild. But they do not include old pictures then... only the new ones. So unfortunately that does not help.
Also Nokia Support was not able to send any useful answer.
So it looks like the library was destroyes for any unknown reason... and then started to work normal again, but simply forgot all old pictures.
Pictures are still available.... but simply not in the list of the library.
It is a pitty that you can not rebuild the library, as you can with music.....

  • The new Photo application only goes to 50% after pushing the "Getting Started" button. Is there a work-a-round?

I've tried unsuccessfully to move over to the new Photos application.  Every time I press the get started button it does well until it reaches 50%.  There it hangs.  I do have a large number of raw & jpg images in my pictures directory, but iPhoto seemed ok with it previously.  I did leave it running over night and it was still at 50% the next morning.  I am running on a 2011 MBP 17" running OS X 10.10.3.  I have 400G of free space.  I'm ok to throw away my old iPhoto library.  I only used it for organizing.  I use Adobe PS & LR for editing. I want to be able to do a similar thing with the new Photo Application.  Timeline the photos, send them to iCloud and distribute them to my devices ... iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch

  • How can I get my Aperture library back from the Photos application?

As stated above, How can I get my Aperture library back from the Photos application?  I'm not a fan of Photos right now and haven't used iPhoto in years, so that wasn't a loss... I didn't realize when I gave Photo's access to my Aperture library, I was going to lose it...
I want to get it back, any suggestions?
    Thanks again!

  • I-photo application is gone

I logged on to my computer today and I have no I-photo application. the icon is still present at the bottom of the screen but nothing opens. I used finder to open applications and were I-photo used to be is now a blank space. When I looked in the picture file and clicked on the i-photo library a message came up that there was no default application to open the file. What happened? and does anyone know how to restore it. the only software that came with my computer is a copy of leopard, and 2 os-x install disks (version10.4.1) needless to say this is a bit troubling because I have a number of photos that I neglected to back up, stupid, stupid, stupid. I have looked in the trash and there was nothing there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
It's on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac- not the Leopard disk. Just pop the first one into the Mac and opt to 'Install Bundled Applications Only'.

  • Bugs on iPad Photo application - Faces

I have discovered a bug on my iPad's Photo application of the Faces. For some faces, the preview has the zoomed-in face of the person, which is normal. However, for the new faces which I have added on my Mac, the preview of the face is the whole photo, which is not normal. Is there a fix for this?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using the default keyboard? Or a third party keyboard? If the latter, go back to one of the built in keyboards.
Is the iPad plugged in when this is happening? If so, you may have a bad charger. It can make the screen do funny things.

  • A good photo application for my mac

When I had a PC, I used Picasa and Microsoft Photo Editor. Now I have no photo application to use for my mac. I don't really like the way iPhoto is organized, so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for good photo apps, besides iPhoto.

First time using Apple Discussions, so hope this goes through.
I read your response re photo-editing software with your recommendation for Adobe Photoshop Elements 4. I had every intention of getting that until I read somewhere that it did not work well with the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. Is that true?
Since I just bought my MBP last week I was devastated - thought I'd made a huge mistake, since I really do like to play with my photos and iPhoto is definitely not strong enough. I just moved over from a Windows XP laptop and was running 4 different editing programs - a real pain. I especially wanted the ability to move items from one pic to another.
    Any thoughts greatly appreciated

  • Copy Pictures out of the Photos Application

Hi, I am having troubles dragging out pictures from the new Photos application on my MacBook Pro, into safari and webpages like google drive.  I need to export it onto the desktop and from there drag it into google drive. Exporting it like this is a pain, especially when dealing with large numbers of photos. Does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks

Make a Folder on your Desktop, “Exported Images”, for example
Within Photos.app, click  "Photos” on the left hand pane
Press COMMAND+A (or Edit > Select All), to select all the images in your library.
Then, File > Export > Export [number of selected images] items...
Select the Desktop folder created in (1) as the destination
