  • N86: something's eating internal memory

    Hello there,
I own this little good buddy called N86, and now that I have starting getting used to of it, space cruch is the new creepy thing, i have to deal with.
This has got 80MB of internal memory (C:, too low), and after 4 months of use, it says 58MB used by other files. I have been hitting my head all the way browsing internal memory and cannot find what those other files are? Cannot find it on my own, but should be able to, by anyone of your's grace!!! Got an idea... what can be done...to get rid of so called "other files"...?

  • N86 8MP - Voip over WiFi

Can anyone tell me whether Voip is available for the N86?
I've looked at Skype and Truphone and they're only able to offer a 'lite' version that relies on a normal phonecall to a local number (i.e. only useful for reduced-rate international calls).
I contacted Truphone and they replied that "We are working very hard to bring more of our Nokia compatible devices to be able to use Wi-Fi, however there are no current plans at the moment."
Why is this service readily available for some Nokia models but not others?
Why do I have to spend my time trawling through Nokia support pages, discussions, blogs etc. to set up this and other functions such as connection to secure WLAN when it's so simple for i-phone and w-mo users?

It is not closed. I have a N86 8MP RM-484  with version SW 30.009 updated with updated version 30.009.207.03 and I have updated the plug-in according to the following link that was provided
    http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.nokia.com/id/d476061e-90ca-42e9-b3ea-1a852f3808ec/SIP_VoIP_Settin...
and tried with the following versions:
    - Symbian 3 SIP VoIP 3.1 Settings 86 kb = this version is not supported in your device.
    - S60 5.x SIP VoIP 3.1 Settings 85 kb = this version is not supported in your device
    - SIP VoIP 3.x Settings (164 kB) = The following sys file has been downloaded SIP_VoIP_3_x_Settings_v2_0_en.sis (168kb). I have installed it and gets the following applications installed on my device:
    + InternetAdvSettings Version 2.00(0) - Size 91 kB
    + SIPVoIPSettingsInstaller Version 1.00 (0) - Size 1KB
    + VoIPAudioSrv Version 2.02(0) - Size 28kB
I have reboot the phone and nothing changes. I have successful created my SIP account but I can not use it on VoIP menu on the agenda.
I do not see anything on Applications folder installed or Tools/Settings/Connection. I do not see anywhere on the phone the VoIP settings.

  • N86 8MP Questions

    Hello everyone,
I am an enthusiastic N86 8MP user and I am content with the phone. However I have a few questions if you would mind answering.
*I have recently hard-formatted my phone to make it faster. When I turned it on for the first time I noticed that the device wanted "Lock Code" after entering the PIN code. Whatever I have done through security settings I could not manage to solve the issue.(I do not want to enter the Lock Code everytime I switch on the device.)
*When I tried to restore the backup I have made a day ago I noticed that not all my Sent Messages were syncronized although the ones in the Inbox were syncronized. All of the sent messages were present in NOKIA Ovi Suite 2 and I manually dragged and dropped them into "Sent Messages" folder on the device/Through OVI GUI. However I came to the realization that all the names in the syncronized messages were reversed.(For example John Doe[expected]-Doe John[real])How can I revert the names of the recipients and senders back to name-surname?
*How can I move all the messages from internal phone memory to mass storage? I have tried once and got an error saying "Selected memory card could not be accessed. Messages will be saved on phone memory."(the message may vary I have translated it) How can I solve this issue?
*OVI sync question: How can I syncronize e-mails, multimedia, media, bookmarks, multimedia messages and short messages through OVI Internet database? What settings should I use? I did not get anything explained on OVI's website or on the manual.
*According to my observations avaible phone memory decreases over time and the phone becomes to feel sluggish(especially when switching from horizontal to vertical view or vice versa. How can I clear the phone of junk files? What kind of utilities should I use?
Thanks for reading any kind of help would be appreciated.(Size adjusted for reading comfort)
    Regards

I am not sure everything I say may help since I do not hold an n86, however with the similarilty between Nokia phones, try these:
    1. Go to the menu for phone security for s60v3 like the n86, I think its in Menu>Tools>Settings>Phone management>Security if I am not mistaken. Choose phone security (it may also be labeled as phone and sim security) and disable phone autolock.
    2.  For the reversed names, go to Contacts>Options>Settings>Name Display and change it to First Name Last Name
    3. When did you do this?Immediately after restoring?turn your phone off and reboot it. try it again after 10min or so.
    5. Try to do it through ovi suite.
    6. If you use internet services often, the phone will accumulate web privacy data, same with PC's. However as we both know PC's have 100s of gigs of memory so it is not a problem, however on phones it is. Go to your browser and go to options>clear privacy data. You will be asked to select which privacy data to delete. The others you delete at your discretion but you MUST delete the data in the cache. I get about 30mb from that in a week. ^_^
Hope I helped. Please press the yellow kudos button if you find this helpful. Cheers. ^_^

  • N79 - Why so little internal memory

My perfect phone - will even forgive dual LED rather than Xenon - OTHER THAN 50Mb internal memory. Less than 90mb on N Series last seen I believe 18 months ago in the N77.
Why the backwards step - has memory become expensive all of a sudden?
Running 6220 Classic (not even N series) with 100Mb. Mail for Exchange consuming 49Mb -MfE must be installed to device memory -so there's no way I'll be able to upgrade and enjoy the benefit of a much improved build quality - 6220 is not good in this department.
Completely perplexed why a "smartphone" in Q4 2008 would be pushed out into the market in this condition.
Can't believe reduced cost and/or reduced size argument can be significant enough to justify Nokia's bizarre decision. I'm therefore inclined to believe that it's as much about slicing their N series customer base into distinct segments so as to maximise the sales in each segment. Nothing wrong with that as such but I'm personally not inclined to trade up to the N85 (do not want a slider) to tick the one box which in my opinion is missing. I reckon the loss of ex WinMo Exchange Server users will likely cancel out those who do decide to trade up.

Was informed by Nokia Online Sales that listed for France and Low Countries in November so assume UK will arrive about same time.

  • Nokia N86 8MP Gallery hanging

    Hi
I have in general been well pleased by my N86, but one thing has defeated me so far.  At some point (and no, I have idea what I might have done to provoke this) the Gallery application became unresponsive.  Upon launch, it will show empty yellow bars - as seen in the rather out-of-focus screenshot. These can be used to navigate to blank screens or in some instances empty folders.  If you choose the menu button, it will inform you that it is working ('Behandler' in my Danish version), and it continue to do so until the battery runs out.
I have tried the following in different permutations:
    Hard and soft resets
Deleted Pictures directories to ensure there were no corrupt hidden files (and later recreated the directories)
    Tried with microSD card
    Tried with no microSD card
    Formatted microSD card
Used phone memory, internal memory and external memory as location for photos
All to no avail.  I'm using a Mac, if that has any bearing on my situation.
    Any suggestions?

hmm ok try the third option since it sounds like you are willing to try just about anything. this you would do with phone turned off and see how this works for you
With all these operations I recommend you TAKE OUT MEMORY CARD and DO A BACK UP OF YOUR STUFF!!!
    1. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345
    2. *#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)
    3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
hard reset - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) For Nokia N97 (unofficial version but works) is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE while holding the power button. Again do not let go until you see the handshake screen.
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.

  • N86 8MP

    First time poster, Hello all.
I have just got the N86 8MP phone and need to clear up a few things in my head.
1st why cant I store music files in E: Mass Memory as I have 6GB free
2nd is E: Mass Memory storage inbuilt on phone or is it on the internet.
Cheers for any info or other good tips for this phone.
    Ballochboy.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

How are you uploading the files? if its via bluetooth, the files will be sent to message inbox memory which is set to phone memory by default, you'll have to set it to mass memory, but still you'll have to manually save each song still (unless done through ovi i guess. Never tried it that way). In order to save your mp3 into your phone's mass memory the easy way, when you connect your phone to your PC select Mass Memory mode and then the mass memory would appear like a flash drive in the my computer browser. Just tread it like you would a thumb drive.

  • How to select on an ODS with index to consume less internal memory?

    Hi all,
I want to load an ODS B from ODS A with an enhanced communication structure. The enhanced fields are populated through look up on a third ODS C based on joining condition with certain fields of the data_package (structure of ODS A).
The entire code is written in the start routine from A to B and the look up on C is done by a <b>select statement on C for all entries in data_package ...etc</b>. However this ODS C has huge data and when we are loading the data from A to B and hitting this select in start routine it is giving us a short dump due to shortage of extendable memory space.
To solve this problem we had built an index on ODS C with the fields used in where clause of the select statement but the problem persists. Can anybody tell me how can we take the benefit of the index so created in the select statement on ODS C in start routine ? Because it is the internal memory and not the query size that is giving the trouble is there any way to partition ODS C and use select on the partitions separately? Should an internal table of type ODS C be declared as sorted table with unique key instead of standard table ?
FYI, the index fields we have added in ODS maintenance screen are checked for unique.

I guess the short dump you are encountering is due to the size of the internal table you are filling up from ODS C not the index. Check the where clause on the select statement. You can reduce the data package size. Try using selections on the infopackages from A to B to limit the data... you can try other options to split the data into multiple (serial sessions) based on the business rules & logic in place at your implementation.
Default installation has a limitation of 2GB on the size of internal sessions considering signed 32bit variable on 32 bit o/s systems. Now that most of the unix based systems are 64bit and with unsigned 32bit variables you can use 4GB or more.

  • N86 E: Mass memory corrupted - how to recover?"

    Hi,
I'm using a N86 8MP which is less than 5 months old. Recently, I have lost all my music files and all the crucial photo images which I have taken between Jan till now and I have not done a backup yet. Somehow this occurs after I have switched the Singapore SIM Card to a China Prepaid Card. Could it be the cause of data losses? Also, not sure if the missing data has anything to do with the corrupted E:Mass Memory which I have just discovered yesterday.. Any ideas/advise?
And, may I know, how can I recover the corrupted E:Mass Memory from my Nokia N86 8MP phone?
    Please help. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion, Barney-15E. FYI I am not running both iCal and Calendar. Just Calendar. Me bad for using the old name and new name interchangeably.
Tackling the iMac problem: In iCloud network preferences, I unchecked Safari then soon after rechecked it, and your suggestion appears to have worked: a bookmark recently added on one of the other devices appeared in the iMac Safari bookmarks. So far so good.
Did the same thing with contacts. The iMac took a couple of hours to restore the sync setting, but it finally completed the task. The computer was laboring so I rebooted. Then I opened the contacts application and saw the spinning grey bars next to the "iCloud" heading above my list of contact groups. Some time later the spinning lines were replaced by an exclamation point. I clicked on it and got the message that the operation could not be completed because of a "CoreDAVErrorDomain error 1..". Subsequently, after much spinning of the line wheel, I have gotten either the exclamation point with the CoreDAV message or a lightning bolt icon. Whether exclamation point or lightning bolt, clicking on it provokes a long period of the spinning line wheel. And looking at some telltale contact discrepancies between the iMac and the other machines, nothing seems to have changed in terms of merging the discrepancies.
Searching for the error message in the support community, I see this has happened to others, and they have had some success in following a list of steps starting with archiving the contacts, which I have done. Don't think I fully follow the other steps, nor am I sure they apply to my situation.

  • N86 8MP OVI Sync Problems

Okay I'll just briefly described my problem
Any help will be greatly appreciated
    1) I did everything by getting the SMS for the OVI settings
    2) I got the settings, saved it.
    3) Changed my active sync from PC Suit to Ovi.com
    4) After I click "syncronize", after about 1 minute or less It said Connection Error
    a) I connect fine on WLAN, no problems whatsoever
    b) The phone did not prompt me to ask whether I want to connect via  WLAN or 3G
    Basically thats my problem,
    Can anybody please help?
    Basic Info,
    I am using the N86 8MP phone
    Im staying in Malaysia
Yes I ported Number from DiGi to Maxis (but i dont see this as a problem as i got the SMS settings just fine)
I've read through the forum and couldnt find anything similar
I've tried removing my mobile phone on Ovi.com and re-do the settings
any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

Thank you for your answer but it didn't work... The warning I got fromPcSync is that:
    PC Sync information.
The connection to the Nokia device has been lost.
    Possible Solution
Check the connection between the Nokia device and PC Sync, then restart synchronisation.
After attempting synchronization I tried to move a pdf file in the phone memory and the operation was succesfull...
Is there a chance that during the hard-reboot something was deleted from my phone that was neccesary?

  • Getting "Out of internal memory" when trying to pu...

    hi,
I saw this was asked before, but haven't seen any solution...
I have an N86. Downloaded in N Gage a few demos and purchased a few games, then at some point when clicking Get More Games I began getting "Out of internal memory. Close some applications and try again. (Error -4)."
But the amount of free internal memory is 50mb, which is the same more or less to what it was when I started using the phone.
I tried to remove games (although all are installed to the external memory) and also remove some other apps which resided on c:. Also tried to empty the internet browser's cache - all without sucess, keep getting the error.
    Any solution for that?
    Thanks!

Also tried to turn phone off and on - still no good...

Dear sweetidiot50, i'm sorry to hear abnout your plight. But, it is not good to type everything in bold (amounts to shouting).
First of all, are you running the latest firmware? You can check for updates here. If the version number displayed in the site is greater than the one you have, then you should update.
Download and install the latest Nokia Software Updater (NSU) found at this link: http://www.nokia-asia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/device-software-update/download
Make a backup of the contents stored in your phone memory using PC Suite, or from your phone itself, and then proceed with the update. Make sure you have a stable internet connection and that you have plugged in your charger.
    Cheers,

  • DPF-XR100 Internal Memory Folders

My Sony Digital Photo Frame (DPF-XR100) has two folders in the root of internal memory: DCIM and MUSIC. The DCIM folder has a subfolder called 100ALBUM. What are these folders for? Did I create them inadvertently? What would happen if I deleted them?
My strategy is to create folders to hold images from many years. For example, 2000, 2001 ... 2013. And then to randomly display images from ALL the folders by turning Shuffle ON. Does this seem reasonable, or should I simply put all my images into the DCIM > 100ALBUM folder? I have almost 1,000 images to load.
Also, does setting a size of 1024 x 600 @ 240 dpi seem like a appropriate size and resolution?
Lot's of questions, I know. So, thanks in advance.
    Steve

    Hello Steve,
When importing images from a memory card to internal memory a 100LBUM is created and images are saved in this folder. If you delete the 100LBUM folder then, images transferred from the Memory stick to the internal memory will be deleted.
You can create folders in the internal Memory of the unit. Photo frame cannot display images saved in a folder that is more than 8 levels deep. The number of images may be reduced depending on the file name length or character type.
The resolution supported by the photo frame is WSVGA 1024 x 600.

  • N86 8MP : How to recover Photos from corrupted E: ...

    Hi,

And, may I know, how can I recover all the Photos from the corrupted E:Mass Memory?
    Please help. Thanks!

I met this kind of problem before with the corrupted SD card on my Samsung phone but it came out I got nothing from the card as the corrupted card can not be recognised by the computer when connected. So I hope you are lucky. (your card can be detected,)
First, take the card from the phone (powered off) and if it has a "write protect" tab then lock it now. Do not try and write anything to the card or you risk causing more problems. You can either plug in you camera to the PC as it should appear as a “Removable Drive” or put the card in a card reader attached to your PC.
Next, if you are comfortable with using a PC then you can download a photo recovery utility that will recover your photos from the following link:
    http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download (Windows, freeware)
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/photorecovery.html (for Mac OS X shareware)
If such free utilities fail to help, you may rely on some paid photo recovery software. If you search the web for photo recovery software you will find many. One I have tried successfully is Wondershare Photo Recovery 2.1 that used to be bundled with some other products. This program can also recover music and videos. Now you can get it from the link below:
    http://www.wondershare.com/pro/photo-recovery.html
You can try the demo to see what you can recover before buying.
Remember - Do NOT try & write anything back to the card until you can recover your pictures and music to your PC safely! Merry Christmas
