You should have backed everything up before doing that. The IOS devices are not meant to be for storage.
Do not let it sync. Find a 3rd party program and transfer and then I highly recommend keeping regular backups.

It's not designed to work like this. When you sync, the iPod stores some information that basically says 'this iPod belongs to computer xyz'. Apple did this to prevent copyright issues (syncing someone else's music).
If you really want to do this, you'll have to at least tie both iTunes installations to the same account. Maybe have them sync with each other.

Hi All, i recently done a back up and update & restore, but ive lost my notes, my text messages and my reminders and notes on the calender, i also have lost the data i had in an app which was very important to me. Please Please help me,  i,m total novice.
I did this back up because i was instructed by my service provider. This was supposed to sort out my losing connection problem, which it didn't, it instead gave me a new problem. If there is anyone out there who can help me to retrieve my lost information i would appreciate it.
    Thank You in advance.

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup.  If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup.  You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone.  However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

  • I get "iPad disabled" message. Can I restore it without losing all my data? Can I restore it from a friend's iTunes account without messing up his account? If so, how?

My iPad turned on while it was in my suitcase and began playing through my iTunes music. I turned it off and can no longer turn it back on. I get a message "iPad disabled." How can I restore it without losing my data?  I'm using a friend's computer and am particularly concerned not to mess up his data (including his iTunes account).

You won't lose data, if you've been backing up your ipad on a regular basis.

  • "Use iTunes to Restore" Message

Hi, I've had my iPod for a few years now, and never had a problem with it until just the other day where i got the "Use iTunes to restore" message.
The problem is that in the few years I've had it, i used a few computers to get the songs that were in my iPod, and the current computer i have would probablyt have like 100 out of the 300-400 songs i had on it. Is there any way possible to restore the iPod without deleting the contents within it, or any other possible way of restoring my ipod, but still having my whole library?
    THank you.

There is no way to restore an iPod without deleting it's contents. Your best bet would be to try and transfer the contents of your iPod to your computer before attempting a restore.
Check out this post for some methods of how to do that.
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9850858#9850858
For this to work, the iPod needs to be recognized by your computer when connected and it's best to close iTunes before proceeding.

  • Backup/restoring messages

    Hi,
This is kinda a little long winded but I wanna give full details so you get the best idea what's going on.
I backed up my phone and hard reset it.  I restored my messages, then a couple of days later it occurred to me that before I had done the restore I hadn't changed the settings regarding the storage of sent messages which is by default set to only save the last 20 sent messages.  I always keep it at 999 because I use the Conversation app to browse messages.  This meant that when I restored the backup only the 20 most recent messages had been put on so I needed to put the rest of the sent messages back on.
I had been receiving and sending messages for a couple of days when I noticed this, so what I did was to export to a csv file all of the messages that I had sent and received since the backup had been created. I then restored the original backup and then imported the new messages back in.
1st problem - I could move the messages I had received to my inbox just fine, but it seems there is no way to move the messages I had sent into my sent items.  Does anyoe know if there is a way to do this as I now have my sent items folder and a seperate one for the messages I had imported.
Now, this would be no biggie if Conversation would still pick them up and recognise them.  Which it sort of does, however, this is the bigger problem that it seems when I created the backup it changed the name format from First Name Last Name to Last Name First Name. So now in Conversation I have 2 conversations for each person, one from the backup which is listed in Last Name First Name format (and refuses to change) and one from any messages I sent/received since which display in whichever format I choose.
I tried changing the naming format to Last Name First Name then refreshing my Conversations (as it was the backed up messages that refused to change name format and they were stuck in Last Name First Name) but it still kept them seperate...
I then tried changing the naming format to Last Name First Name and creating a new backup, then restoring this.  This worked to a certain extent in that all the received messages were now grouped together in the Last Name First Name format (which could not be changed), but my sent messages were kept seperate (and would change naming format).  So now there were 2 lists for each person, one that contained my received items which were all listed in the format Last Name First Name and changing how names are displayed wouldn't affect this, and one with my sent items in which did change depending on how I set the name format.
What I think I would like to do is to be able to backup what I have in there currently, then open the NBU file and see what is causing it to keep them seperate and edit that to be uniform throughout.  However, the only NBU software I have found just allows you to browse what is in there and export it, but not edit it and resave it as an NBU file.
Does anyone know of a way round this as it is annoying now that the conversation app is essentially rendered useless for any of my old set of messages...
I guess what would solve this is if there was a way to change the naming convention of restored messages.
Something else I have noticed is that with the restored messages I can't reply to them.
I think in future I'm going to back them up manually and just use backup to restore sent messages...
    Thanks,
    Chris

Why don't you just replace the old backup with the new adjusted settings? If you replace the backup, don't import the settings.

If the iPhone was jailbroken, you get this error due to baseband mismatch. No help for such iPhones here in this forum.
if not, Restore on another computer. If error persists it is hardware failure.

  • PC Suite is not restoring messages correctly

    Hello everybody,
ive searched couple of times but got nothing really useful,
ive managed to create a valid csv file from my previous messages, and when i want to restore messages to phone via pc suite, with import function, everything is fine and messages will be imported to phone successfully, but the problem is , pc suite converts numbers to names for saved numbers, like FROM:  "Lastname Firstname" (i dont like this) and i cant reply to messages or view message detail inside the phone, names are solid on messages, how i can make pc suite act normal?
    Sorry for my terrible english.
    thanks, Sallar.

I can't open my iPod Touch - tried the restore message and then error mewssage 3014 - iOS problems???

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Help!!  Restore message driving me crazy!@

I have a 4gb nano that shows the "use itunes to restore". (windowsXP) I have hooked it to my main computer with the latest version if Itunes and I get the message that the nano "needs to restore" loop. So I have reformatted, restored (from ITunes and also from the updater, changed drive letters (3 or 4 times), everything that the forums have suggested. Then I went to an older computer and installed itunes version 6plus. This version of itunes recognises my ipod! Will sync and play songs, delete songs. etc. Everything Honky dory until i disconnect the ipod from the computer and then I get the 3 language "use itunes to restore" message again and nothing else. So what else is there for me to do? tried different usb ports, different cables, different computers. I know this is a definite software problem. The harddrive works fine in windows and also in itunes version 6+, but not on its own or version 7. Battery has a great life.

I understand why you would think that, but logically it doesn't make sense. I can read and write to the ipod with windows explorer with no problems, so the flash drive seems to be ok. I can also load, read and play songs through Itunes 6 on the computer with no problems. The problems start in Itunes 7 and when the ipod is used as an ipod alone....not a drive. The diagnostic windows tell me the drive is fine and the battery is ok (just a little low on voltage) but hubby says not enough to worry about. If anything was wrong with the hardware I wouldn't be able to use it as a drive would I? Its almost as though the thing is "stuck" on the boot up window of "use Itunes to restore". I even tried to load rockbox. The software all loaded but I still got the itunes restore window on startup and thats as far as I can go. Another thing I noticed recently is I can't seem to turn the ipod off! I can reset it but it just "reboots". After the restore notice about 10 seconds later the whole screen will blank out. Also when I plug the ipod directly to the wall to charge, I also get the apple...then the itunes restore notice...but never a battery charge icon (like my classic 20gb)...is this normal? This nano was given to me - (Also, this is a first generation, but I posted in the second generation thread) Would a repartition work?

I want to synchronize my iPOP with my new MAC. How can i do that without lost my applications and songs???

Backup you library and restore to the new computer.
iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
    or
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    - After all the media is on the new computer connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking one the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music.

Will be very much thankful to you...In an emergency situation, you can try using the SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE.
Oracle is very clear on this point and says that this file should not be used for any purpose, but breaking this rule, we can have success and bring a consistent controlfile.
The snapshot control file is a copy of a database control file created in an operating system-specific location by RMAN. RMAN creates the snapshot control file so that it has a consistent version of a control file to use when either resynchronizing the recovery catalog or backing up the control file.
The Default Location of SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE is $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/snapcf_<DB_NAME>.f
If we recently used RMAN most recent controlfile will be my SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE.
    See this example:
    SQL> create pfile='/home/oracle/spfile.txt' from spfile;
    SQL> !
    oracle@aix:/home/oracle> cp /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_11203/dbs/snapcf_dbtst.f  /home/oracle/control.ora
    oracle@aix:/home/oracle> vi spfile.txt
    "spfile.txt" 27 lines, 957 characters
    *.control_files='/home/oracle/control.ora' ## Change this line
    SQL> startup mount pfile ='/home/oracle/spfile.txt'

When I tried to update my iPhone 5s to iOS 8.1, I was forced to choose to restore or back up.  Back up wasn't working so I had no choice but to restore.  I lost pictures over the last two years.  When I tried my cloud, there was nothing.  I would get notifications that my cloud was full, but I thought there would at least be some photos in there.  When I tried to restore a back up, it said the last time was two years ago.  I thought when you're on wifi, it automatically backs up.  I've charged my iPhone into my Macbook a bunch of times, so something should have backed up.  Is there any hope for my photos?

Sorry no backup - no pictures.
Yes phone will automatically backup to icloud when on wifi and phone is charge, but your phone storage was full so it stop backing up.
