N900 and Backup on PC-Suite

When I click on "Backup" in PC-Suite it says:
"No phones are connected. Connect now."
However, all other applications in PC-Suite recognize my connected phone successfully. Can anyone please advise why Backup doesn't recognize it?
Thank you.

i haven't tried a back up with pc suite but i do know that the N900 isn't fully supported so what i do is sync the contacts then in mass storage mode i copy all music, video, documents... anything i want to protect to a file on the pc. i don't think you can back up any messages or settings tho

  • N900 and content copier

I am having some issues with my N900 and using it with content copier...
Having had the mini-usb port fail on my device, I paired it up with bluetooth, and carried out a successful backup before taking it to the shop to get it replaced.
I now have a new device, but no matter what I do I cannot get content copier to recognise that there is a phone attached, so tha I can restore my previous backup.
I have updated both PC suite, and the software on the handset to the same level as my old device.
Everything I have read just says 'content copier doesn't support the n900' but if that was the case, how could I have made the backup in the first place???
    Anyone any suggestions?
Are there any other ways around the issue? I have tried copying the backup file to the device, and attempting to restore using the onboard backup utility, but it doesn't seem to recognise the file as a backup...
Is there a way of opening a backup set, so that I can extract  the contacts etc and sync them individually???
    Any help much appreciated.
    Mark

you can use a program I wrote called NokNokWhosThere to extract VCards from your PC Suite databases (not the backup file) and use communication centre to reimport them, or maybe open them on the device itself directly..

  • Nokia C3-01 and backup problem

Just bought the C3-01.  Installed OVI Suite on my laptop.  Updated new phone software.
Installed my old sim card into my C3-01.
Phone works fine, all my contacts are showing, did backup to ovi suite.
NON of my contacts are showing in the ovi suite on my laptop.
Notice that my contacts are shown as NAMES on my C3
    Ovi states backup successful.
So where are by contacts/names backed up to?.
Have done a reinstall for ovi suite, that did not solve the problem.
    Any ideas please
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Are these contacts on the SIM ? If so copy them to the Phone Memory..and then sync.
Afterwards either delete all contacts from the SIM or in Contacts settings -->Memory in Use..select ONLY 'PHONE', else you will see duplicate entries in the Contact list and also the Caller ID will not function correctly.

  • AVDHD editing and backup

    Hi,
I have read a lot on a lot of different sites that people is having problems with the AVCHD format and the Mac editing suites.
I have shot som footage at 1080/24p and imported it into iMovie at high. I seems to be looking great, but I have read in another thread that it is being converted into either 30p og 60i. Is that a problem?
Does iMovie maintain the quality when I edit it or does it downscale it?
I would like to save the original footage somewhere until the editing suites gets better. But how do I "backup" the footage from the camera. I would like to put it on an external disk. And it would be nice if I later could use the footage directly from the disk instead of having to copy it back to the camera .
Any difference if I was using FCE?
    Best regards
    Henrik.

Yes -- AVCHD is converted to AIC during import which makes the files many times larger.
But here's the deal. While you are shooting 24p -- you not recording or editing 24p. Canon adds 3-2 pulldown to 24p to make the video whats called 60i/24p. iMovie inports, edits, and exports 60i/24p.
The only way way you can actually edit 24p is to remove the pulldown before importing. Don't bother.
Even if you do this you cannot export 24p.
If you really want progressive video -- shoot 30p.

  • Save memory card password using backup of PC Suite...

Ok. Some time ago I set a password on the memory card of my Nokia XpressMusic 5310. Some months passed and I forgot the password
to it but the phone still has it so it's working without any issues.
Problem is I want to update the firmware on the phone because it is a bit outdated and PC Suite is showing me that new versions are available. If I update the firmware, the phone will LOSE the password to the memory card as it is deleted during the flash. I did a complete backup using PC Suite to my computer. Is the memory card password ALSO backed up to the computer or will I still need it after the flash?
In other words, after I update the phone, can I use the backup I made to restore it and restore the password it had for the memory card. Or is there any way for me to find this password and remove it before updating?
The phone is a S40 phone so the installing of filemanager programs and looking for the text file with the password does NOT work.
    Thx.

  • How do you stop Mountain Lion from making endless copies and backups of everything?!

I already have a similar topic on this when I needed to figure out how to stop Mountain Lion from making endless copies of my text edit files and I was going to try the disabling of it that someone in that thread suggested, but I can't find where the Versions backups are being stored.
Anyway, tonight I cam across a new problem, when I went into "about this Mac" and looked at my Storage, I had almost 1gb of data in the "backups" section. I just happened to have Finder open when I went into the Time Machine in the status bar and when it entered Time Machine, I had dozens of copies of my desktop. Thing is, I don't have my Time Machine hard drive connected and I don't have a Time Capsule router/hard drive. And don't give me this garbage about how "It's not real backups, it's just a snapshot" or whatever, because the ONLY things that I have stored on my computer that I have altered since I got mountain lion is two Text Edit files and the Finder Desktop (and yes, I have checked almost all the programs I use, and of the things that Time Machine will open in, those are the only things that have backups listed that I can access) and almost 1gb is being taken up completely needlessly with the computer backing up things onto itself. Obviously these are more than just snapshots and are obviously the real files because after throwing EVERYTHING on my desktop into a file, that file is only 3.8mb in size, so that almost 1GB in backups is coming from SOMEWHERE.
The solution I aluded to in my first sentence also depends on going into the Terminal to make each individual app stop auto saving Versions, however, since my desktop is being backed up, there's no program to stop Mountain Lion from doing that.
Can anyone help me figure out how to make it stop backing up? Seriously, almost 1 gb is being totally wasted on a series of desktop items that are 3.8mb in size, one Text Edit file that is 250kb in size, and another text edit file that is 41kb in size. What person in Apple would possibly have thought this endless backing up of files onto the main hard drive would have been a good idea? So in a year if I did nothing but go on the internet, save one picture to one file on my desktop and did nothing else with my computer, would I have 200 gb of desktop backups that the computer saved onto itself? Are you kidding me? OR failing that, can anyone tell me how to find this damned backup file and delete it? I'm not an idiot, I know how to plug in a hard drive or flash drive and backup my information, I don't need my computer to be making hundreds of copies of every single file on my computer that I change slightly onto itself that not only needlessly eats up it's own space, but if the hard drive died, all those "backups" would be gone too because it wrote the backups to itself.
I am so frustrated by this totally ridiculous and wasteful "feature" they put in, it does nothing but waste hard drive space with it's hundreds of copies of everything you alter slightly. And I am absolutely not starting any video editing projects until I figure out how to turn this off. If around 4mb of total text and desktop backups add up to almost 1gb in a few weeks, what the heck is a video editing project going to end up in with size? Am I the only one completely flustered by this ridiculousness? Is there any point in writing into Apple to complain or are they just going to say "No, we're brilliant, we think this is an amazing feature so you just have to deal iwth it and when your hardd drive fills up, too bad, jerk!"?? Help! Thanks!

Well as I pointed out in my post, "Sadly, my Text Edit documents are still all there, every single time I opened them and made a small change, there is another copy stretching all the way back to the day I installed Mountain Lion." so if you can explain to me how July 26 - Aug 16 is a week, I will concede that it is a good idea. Short of that, no I have been capable of making my own backups since I was 16 years old (16 years ago) I don't need my computer to endlessly do it for me in a way I am completely unable to shut off. That's what I have external hard drives, flash drives, a DVD burner, Drop Box, E-mail (as in emailing copies to myself) and icloud for. If I am doing something and I don't have access to a single one of those options, I don't know why I brought my computer with me in the first place. And I don't see how you can say it's an illusory gain in disk space, hundreds of copies of text documents, garageband files, Final Cut files, Motion Files and basically any program that makes files onto my comptuer that I can myself make incremental changes to, those all need to be stored somehow. Again, if you can explain to me how July 26 - Aug 16 is a week, I will agree with you that that is a good thing because IF it only saved for a week, it wouldn't be an issue. Sadly, no matter how many links you post, I still have text edit backups stretching from today back to July 26. They're not going away and I have no reason to beleive any other file I edit is going to go away either since they haven't been. They're all there eating up HD space and this imaginary "week" limit is simply not coming into effect. I hate it and there needs to be a simple way to simply shut it off. I didn't spend hundreds of dollars on external drives just for my main hard drive to be filled up with hundreds un useless, undeletable backups of stuff I already have backed up.

I installed a new SSD drive in my computer and now Adobe Creative Suite Web Premium says I don't have a license. I have license. It was very expensive. I am disabled now, and I need this software working. Adobe Acrobat has been a primary tool for accommodating memory problems after a brain injury. (A car ran me down while I was out getting exercise.) I installed the SSD because I needed my management of PDF files to run faster. I called tech support for help when the software first stopped working, but they needed me to give them a number from my original disks. Because of my disability, I've been having someone come in to clean, and the shelves where I kept my software packages were cleared. I've been hunting for them ever since, but I can't look for them myself for very long at a time. Today I finally found them, but now I can't seem to contact tech support. What happened? I don't want to delete my old files because I need the setup to remain unchanged, because I don't do well with changes. I think all I should need is to have someone located the license file on drive E: and move it to wherever it is needed on the SSD drive, but I don't know what to look for.

Tech support is not normally available on weekends.  You should contact them as soon as the weekend passes and pick up where you left off with them.

You can check your Junk/Spam folders, sometimes the e-mail gets sent there. Also, double check that the primary e-mail address in your Apple ID account is hers. If none of this works, I suggest to wait it out, sometimes it can take up to 24 hours!

  • What is the best way to create additional storage AND backup a laptop, as well as the storage?

Beyond being seriously annoyed at an Apple Employee recommended we go the NAS route at an Apple Store no less—only to find it doesn't work for storage OR Time Machine backups of iPhoto (after spending weeks organizing/transferring date, outside of a good deal of coin)—we are now perplexed as how to set up/store based on our needs.
    Goals
Create additional storage (iPhoto, iTunes, documents) for the family laptop
Accessible by anyone/device on the home network (iPad, mini iPad, iPhones, etc..)
Would prefer the ability to access this offsite as well
    Backup of the laptop
    Backup of the storage HD
Ensure we do not lose iPhoto libraries data/files
Here is what I am thinking—need to know if it will work.
    Purchase two HDs
Plug them into my base station
Allocate one HD @2T for storage (additional iPhoto libraries, home movies, iTunes libraries, etc...)
Partition the second HD @3T to handle two Time Machine backups
    (a) Time Machine of the laptop (up to 1T of backups)
    (b) Time Machine of the first HD (up to 2T of backups) - Is this possible?
What I need to know is
Is it possible to partition a HD to Time Machine two backups from different sources—one being a HD?
If this is not a good solution—what is? I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to deal with a lot of data related to iPhoto due to the formatting limitations there.

While most do not advocate mixing Time Machine backups with other files, I have 3 Time Capsules with files and backups on the same partition and have never had a problem despite doing it for many years. All 3 Time Capsule are set up as NAS devices.
One Time Capsule holds the Snow Leopard partition backup of two computers. The other two each have a backup of the Mountain Lion partition of two computers. Time Machine is set up to alternate between the devices, which it can now do. On these 2 Time Capsules is a copy of the iTunes Library and a copy of the iPhotos Library, which provides a backup for the two. Every so often I manually copy the new files from the primary iTunes/iPhotos library to the backup on the other Time Capsule.
If the computer is on, I can access the computer from my iPad and then access the hard drives and the files.
Hopefully, I have been able to make this clear.

  • Following download of version 23.0.1 I lost all previous history but not bookmarks. How do I recover old history? Recovery in "import and backup" does not help

My remembered and retained history was going back quite a few months. Following update of Firefox to 23.0.1 I lost all my history and Firefox only retains websites visited after the new version was installed. My bookmarks have been retained. I tried Recover in "Import and backup" but it only goes back to the date of the new installation. I tried places.sqlite in "Roaming" but there is only one with today's date. Is there a way to recover the lost history? Why did Firefox lose it? Will it happen averytime Firefox updates?

Backup your bookmarks manually. If you have been using the "import" you may have already lost some information by overwriting it. As a matter of course you should always save current bookmarks manually before using any restores.
    * [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]
That way you can ensure you are able to restore the complete current set. Put your .json backup file somewhere safe outside Firefox program or profile paths. The Windows Desktop or removable media would be suitable.
Firefox does create some autobackups of bookmarks but does not do anything about backing up the History. Luckily Windows probably backs up previous versions of your file ''places.sqlite'' and that is the database with History and bookmarks in it. See if you can recover a recent version of that, it will restore your history up to the date of the restored file.
    * http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Previous-versions-of-files-frequently-asked-questions
    * the file ''places.sulite'' is in the Firefox profile, a hidden folder that is easy to find by using troubleshooting. see [[Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data#w_how-do-i-find-my-profile]]_how-do-i-find-my-profile
Afterwards import your more recent bookmarks from wherever they were saved. The import overwrites the slightly older bookmarks from the Windows file.
You my also then wish to install and run the addon places maintenance.
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/
That may be used to check and repair the places.sqlite database. It will give a short status report. Note if the places.sqlite runs out of space it starts deleting History.
In future you my wish to routinely create occasional backups of your profile or at least your places.sqlite
*[[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
