  • Nokia Ovi Suite - Messages Sync doubt

    Hi all,
I have this doubt concerning the messages sync:
Let's imagine, I make a sync between my nokia, so all the messages are copied and appear in the Ovi Suite. Some other day I decide do delete some messages on the cell phone. When I sync it again with the Ovi Suite, will it delete those same messages or will they remain?
I didn't find an option to chose whether I could chose the kind of synchronization, since I would like to delete some SMS from the cellphone but keep them intact in my computer.
    Thanks!

    Hey,
AFAIK Nokia Ovi Suite Message sync is one-way sync, ie., u can sync ur handset's messages from ur device to Nokia Ovi Suite and the other way is not possible.  Xprts confirm
If u delete few messages from ur device after synching those with Nokia Ovi Suite, then if sync is successful means, ur messages will b there on both handset and on ur device.  Once if u delete ur messages from device and then if u sync ur handset with nokia ovi suite for message sync, ur deleted messages on the phone will not get deleted from nokia ovi suite and becuase of ur sync even the deleted messages will get restored from nokia ovi suite to ur device, as i said earlier it is only one way sync.
Still if u want the deleted messages to b restored on ur device, what all can b done is u can drag ur messages from Nokia Ovi suite's message pane to ur device, then the deletd mssgs can b stored on ur device too.
If u delete ur messgae on message pane section of Nokia ovi suite, then only ur messages will get deleted from nokia ovi suite.
Hope its clear, if u hav any doubt, get it clarified thru our forum, but it wud b gud, if u post ur nokia ovi suite related issues on Nokia ovi suite discussions board, this one is meant for Ovi and Mobile Media > ovi.com, ovi.store, ovi share and ovi sync, which all r related to Nokia Ovi's online ie nokia account ovi.com
If u hav any query related to Nokia Ovi suite, please do post them in Nokia discussion board > Software > Nokia Ovi Suite, i m stressing this because, ur query will get replied soon if u post ur issue related to Nokia ovi suite in its respective forum, chances r there, users will think issues u post related to ovi suite in ovi.com section will related to ovi.com

  • OVI Suite - Messaging sync issues

Seems that since the last time I was asked to update the Ovi Suite to the latest version, could be around 1 week or so. Messages don't seem to sync properly.
On the mobile it's OK, but on the screen on the computer it fails to mark as "read" the messages I've opened. At the moment it says there are 8 new unread messages, when I click on them they still don't change.
I usually send texts from the Ovi Suite on my laptop, on the Drafts folder there is quite a few there, even if I try to delete them once I go back to that folder they come up again as if they were never deleted.
Is anyone having this issue or similar? Have switched phone off and on several times thinking it just needs to reboot, nothing.
Have tried the "Repair Sync..." option on Sync tab, nothing.
Is it a bug that needs to be fixed on the newer version of the software?
It's driving me insane, and I say the "unread" list will keep growing.
    Help please!
    Cheers,
    Clau

Further to my last post, I've done some experimenting by moving messages back into the inbox. If the messages are in the Inbox, then they are attributed to the correct author. If they are moved to sub-folders of My Folders, then they are not correctly attributed.
It shouldn't matter what folder they are in, the message should correctly visually indicate who sent it. This worked prior to a couple of months before my original post.
There's an Ovi Suite update out; have to see if that's fixed it.

  • N8 and OVI suite no sync with Outlook 2010 calenda...

Hi I have been trying to sync my calendar with my work computer now for two weeks since purchasing the N8.
It is running Windows 7 enterprise (32 bit) and MS Outlook 2010.
OVI suite ( version 3.1.0.91) recognizes the N8 OK, but I cannot sync Calendar and notes. I keep seeing the message that Outlook is not installed on the computer.
I have tried many of the suggestions from this forum without success. I have even installed PC Suite 7.1.30.9 which also recognizes the N8 and even allows the manual sync operation to be initiated, but no data (appointments) are transferred in either direction.
    Please can someone help me?
I know it can be made to work as my home computer which runs a home version of Windows 7 (64 bit) and Outlook 2010 seems to sync correctly. I cannot work out what the difference is.
I have already tried PC Suite cleaner and several reinstalls. My excellent old E66 phone can still sync quite successfully on both computers
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Me too:
    1. Windows XP SP3 included on a Windows 2003 server domain
    2. Outlook 2010 (14.0.5128.5000 (32 bits)) connected with Exchange 2003 server.
    3. OVI 3.1.1.85
    (Installed in this order)
When I try synchronize calendar & tasks, OVI tell me that I need Windows Calendar or Microsoft Outlook. But I have Outlook.

  • Nokia 5800 and Ovi Suite Contacts Sync Changes Pic...

    Hi,
I have a Nokia 5800 and just installed the latest Nokia Ovi Suite (2.0).
It is a good tool, but I have a problem with the synching my contacts.
Befor Ovi sync, I use to associate pictures from my gallery with contacts. When I dial the contacts the picture of the contact took up most of the screen (until the contact answers the call - then it makes the picture small and puts it in the speech bubble)
After I sync'ed with Ovi Suite, the contact picture now shows up as a small - very small - thumbnail image during the call on the phone.
Is there something that can be done to protect this from happening, or a setting that can be changed in Ovi to use a large picture instead of a thumbnail?
My 5800 has the latest firmware installed (available to me in my country) - which is 31.0.101.
Thanks for the help in advance.

one more bump and then I give up on Ovi suite. Once again

  • PC Suite vs.Ovi Suite for Syncing N900

I am coming from Blackberry with no Nokia experience whatsoever. I am running Windows 7 and Outlook 2007.  I am used to a 2 way – or 1 way sync for my Blackberry – because really both are needed.  I have read that PC Suite has more features than Ovi Suite for sync.  That they “dumbed down” Ovi Suite and it only has 2 way capability.
The N900 is coming… I ordered it tonight.  What is really the best software to sync my Outlook 2007 contacts (and possibly calendar) although I have read Outlook Calendar may not be possible..??..
Thanks – I would hate to install what might not be the best software to sync this phone… I am hoping to avoid any rough patches if at all possible.

There's enough there between the phone andPC Suite to cover more than jusrt the bare essentials and it gives us something to look fotward to
True.  And this phone is so capable computer software to do "things" isn't as relevant.  I haven't even had to do a  battery pull  or restart it.  It is an amazing device for sure.
Also, I did test "copying and pasting" the converted music files from the Blackberry media card to the internal memoy of the N900 and it worked flawlessly!  Even the album art work made it.  I still may check out Double Twist, but at least this way if "free."

  • X6 and ovi suite sync problem - usb connection

i recently bought an x6 and set up ovi suite etc which all worked fine! yesterday i updated maps and the x6 operating system using ovi which again seemed to work fine. Now however when i connect phone to my pc the pc comes up problem with hardware installation and ovi suite only occassionally recognises phone - even when it does it will not sync music! help please - wish i hadn't updated anything as it all worked fine before !!!!

I have a similarly frustrating sync problem with my X6. It's my second phone too.
I've had Ovi Suite installed on my computer for about 9 months. I had difficulty getting it to sync with my X6 phone at first but after some troubleshooting I got it working reasonably well.
However over the last few months it doesn't initiate the syncing process after I connect my device. I can open Ovi Suite and click the sync buttons but it doesn't do anything. It doesn't freeze or crash either which is strange considering it is not processing the request.
I've tried everything including reinstalling the software and resetting my phone. This worked once and since went back to it's old tricks.
The only thing that works is removing the X6 device in OVI suite, rebooting the PC and adding the device again. This is real pain in the backside as you can imagine doing this each time I want to sync it.
In contrast the previous version - PC Suite - worked well with my old Nokia phone.
Nokia support have provided some guidance after pushing for a reply but you dont get expert or timely help from them.
Come on, we cant be just a few people having these issues? I reckon lots of x6 owners aren't getting full value from these devices.
It's at the stage where I'd not recommend a Nokia x6 or other Nokia phone to anyone wanting the PC connectivity which is one of the major benefits of a phone these days.
Go on Nokia give us some love!

  • Ovi Suite not syncing with Outlook 2007

OK, I found a lot of messages related to the same issue but no solution so I hope someone can help me!!
I'm trying to sync my N8 with my calendar and tasks but it takes forever and nothing happens.
All other stuff is syncing such as pictures, contacts, messages and music but calendar the message says: Preparing to sync calendar and tasks... and stays like that forever and nothing happens!
I removed PC Suite since N8 is not compatible and check all configurations in the phone and ovi suite. Please help!!
I also called nokia support and they were useless....
    Phone: N8
    Outlook 2007
    Windows XP

OK... Not sure if I followed the instructions correctly since Im not a computer expert, but I could not find anything usefull from those files + size is too big to attach here... Pls advise
PS. When I cancel the calendar sync I have to shut down ovi suite by ctrl+alt+del and sometimes windows crashs and I have to restart

  • Nokia C7 and Ovi Suite issues.

Hi. I'm currently experiencing a couple of issues with my Nokia C7 which I've had since March of this year. A few weeks back it kept randomly rebooting on occasion but it stopped doing this after a software update, I think. However, since last night when the battery went low it's failed to work properly at all and is pretty much unusable. I tried sending texts and it just freezes/hangs or crashes at different menu options. I had left it overnight after a full charge, but woke to find it switched off and the battery at only 4 bars. Since then it's been turning off or freezing constantly.
I can only un-freeze it/turn it off by taking the battery out. I know that it needs to be reset - I think the *#7370# code is the one to use? But first I need to back it up as most of the content is on the mass memory.
However, device driver keeps failing and Ovi Suite has only synced messages. I keep getting an error when trying to sync contacts and photos. Backup won't work at all; it just keeps saying OviSuite is busy even when it isn't.
I shall be taking the phone to an o2 store asap but expect they'll only send it for repair. Should I push them for a replacement or is this issue fixable?
Many thanks for any help given.
PS will files that had previously been backed up - such as games (eg Angry Birds) and apps - be restored to their current save data or will I have to start again/re-download them?

  • Connect N900 to Ovi Suite

When connecting my N900 to my computer Ovi Suite stays for ever in the
"Please wait while USB drivers are installed on your computer" . There is no progress and actually nothing is done CPU is flat, no files are access on my computer (WIndows 7 64bit)
How do I connect the N900 to Ovi Suite 3.1.1.80?

    oh....scratch that...it just took a while.
now i am able to see all the different countries and such.
the first time, it would not recognize my maps and could not find the folder.
so i unplugged the device, started ovi maps, waited until it got a gps lock, taped the red circle to center on me.  then closed the application and reconnected.
then after a few minutes of searching, it finally found everything and then showed me the list of the maps to download.
the maps that i would want and have downloaded before are showing as "on device"
so it seems to be working fine.
also, i had to be sure i was connected in PC Suite mode.

  • Ovi suite should sync ovi maps

    Hi,
just a gripe I hope Nokia will read. It would be nice if the ovi suite could 'sync' maps. What I mean is you can browse either the available maps or the maps on your phone. It can't show you the two together. What it *should* do, if Nokia actually used their own products, is show the available maps with some mark '*' to indicate which are already on your phone. When copying maps it should prompt you that a certain map is already on the phone and offer the opportunity to overwrite or skip.
You know, basic 1990's file sync stuff.
Maybe I'll send Nokia support an email.

Hi, look I really think you need to chill about this, you only need to update maps every couple of years, I work in the motor trade and most expensive factory fit sat nav systems are cd/dvd based and are generally not updated much more often than 18 months, the whole reason for loading maps onto your phone is to save data charges and speed everything up. If you have no maps on your phone navigation will still work if internet is connected as the phone will download maps 'on the fly' as it needs them, but it just slows things down and if you're out of your region will cost plenty in roaming charges (so download your foriegn destination on pc before you leave). Just enjoy your phone and free navigation

  • Ovi Suite Messaging Conversations not displaying p...

After an update to either my 5233 firmware or Ovi Suite several months back, conversations do not display correctly in Ovi Suite Messaging, either from the computer or from the phone message store. For example, if I follow a conversation between myself and another person, all messages are attributed to myself, even if some of the messages have been sent from the other person. Prior to about May 2011, all messages displayed correctly in conversations. I have deleted all the messages from the computer and copied them across from the phone, and now all the messages that displayed correctly before are being attributed to me. Assuming this is the result of a Nokia update, is there a fix for this on the horizon?

Further to my last post, I've done some experimenting by moving messages back into the inbox. If the messages are in the Inbox, then they are attributed to the correct author. If they are moved to sub-folders of My Folders, then they are not correctly attributed.

  • Outlook Express and Ovi Suite syncing problems

    Hi,
I just installed the Ovi Suite for my new N5230 phone.
I tested syncing contacts for the first time from Outlook Express to the phone and my account at Ovi.com via Ovi Suite. All went fine.
However, I undertook a major edit of all my Outlook Express contacts data (thankfully backing it up afterwards on my PC) but when I went to use the sync fucntion in Ovi Suite again I was not given an option of (a) whether to merge or replace or (b) where to start sync from if not a merge. Consequently my phone and Ovi.com contacts lists filled up with duplicates through a botched merge. Where a contact was deleted in Outlook Express no Sync Conflict message appeared to ask me if I wanted to delete the same entry in Ovi.
When I deleted all the contacts in Ovi Suite and tried to sync again my Outlook Express contacts list was deleted! Thankful for the backup before I started this waste of a Sunday afternoon.
So basically, is it the case that if I want to use Ovi Suite and Ovi.com for contacts then I have to use Ovi.com as the master list and not my contacts list in Outlook Express on my PC? If the software simply merges data all the time how the heck am I meant to delete a contact from all three storage areas?
    Any advice appreciated.
    Bill

Well for anyones information. Syncing with ovi suite.
I have successfully got ovi suite working.
For those with problems this is what I did. I have vista.
    1. I uninstalled all programs from nokia.( ovi suite using the online uninstaller. Pc suite using the installed uninstall program.
then i ran pc suite cleaner.
    2. using search for nokia then using advanced search for all nokia folders remaining (important to use advanced search or you will miss some of the folders and files. Then deleted them. Some you may have to change the user permissions to delete them. It is important to delete these as they hold data and i think might be one of the conflicts stopping sync working.
    3. Delete any remaining files except bookmarks pics etc.
now there should be nothing on the pc.
Then download and run ccleaner. Cleaner and registry.
    Reboot pc
    Then download ovi suite.
A wizard might pop up but if not start ovi suite and connect your phone. I turned bluetooth off and used usb.
The phone will download settings. You can select pc suite on the sync settings in the phone. not ovi.com.
the program is good and worth the trouble. It saves your messages and contacts as well as syncing contacts and calendar with your required program, also bookmarks can be saved with firefox and explorer in your phone folder in favourites. It creates the folder. To transfer bookmarks from pc to phone ensure they are in this folder.
This took me a lot of reboots and time with a few calls to nokia and i am still waiting for their callback!!!
It also works fine on my xp computer too.
