The way i did it yesterday, to update and install new maps, was to use the Nokia Ovi Suite on my computer, If you dont have this you can download it from a link on the Nokia site,http://www.nokia.co.uk/support/download-software/ovi-suite
Then simply open Ovi Suite on your computer, connect your N900 via USB, click on Maps on Ovi Suite, select the maps you want and download them,
The system first removes any old maps, then downloads to the computer, then transfers to N900, all very simple, but does take some time depending on how many countries you want to download. you can also add additional maps at any time,
Or you can download from the Ovi site just using your N900

E6 - Ovi Maps Voice guidance over BT Car Music Sys...

OK everyone has been screaming out a lot on this issue, I had the same problem while using E71 before while using the Ovi Maps. (Refer my earlier post)

It seems Nokia have partly answered to this problem, but still there is big OPEN FAULT.
Got my Nokia E6 y'day and Tried the Map's Voice guidance while connected to my same Car System's BT (Blaupunk Hamburg MP68 - refer my earlier post ), here are the changes I noticed.
1) While playing music through CD/USB, Nokia E6 gives out Voice guidance while navigating through its "own" LoudSpeaker. THIS IS A GOOD CORRECTION to the previously noticed problem and the guidance is not lost.
2) Now comes the issue. While navigating, when there is a incoming or outgoing phone call, music stops and the phone voice conversation are routed to the BT music system properly (This is something the basic functionaly and it works as it as properly). But the Voice guidance is totally lost in this scenario!!! THERE IS NO VOICE GUIDANCE EITHER ON THE PHONE'S OWN LOUDSPEAKER OR THE BT MUSIC SYSTEM.
Nokia, expecting u to fix this bug sooner...

Which steps are needed to get Ovi Maps working with N900?

You need to open Nokia Ovi Suite on your computer
connect N900 via USB, Click on Maps in Ovi suite,
From that page you can check which Maps are loaded on your N900,
and add any New maps as required.

Hi,
I have a problem: i downloaded latest phone update /20.2010.../ and update the map from ovi suite- should be the last one.
When i got into the software, and try to search a city, always ask me for internet connection, even when the device is full of GPS signal.
I checked , through ovi suite- yes i have yhe latest ovi maps+ latest map.
If i refuse to use wi-fi connection- the search fails.
My question is- how to browse between places, in the map, w/o internet connection?

like "Marble" ,'sygic mobile maps' ...

N900 Ovi maps zoom

rotaring clock wise does not zoom in to map. How do I zoon into map?

when you have the maps open, you should have a zoom bar on the right side of you screen. with a + on the top and a - on the bottom. just tap those and there is your zoom.
if you tap the bottom right corner, just like the internet browser, it will give you options.
tap around and learn the product.

N900 and Voice Navigation / New OVI Maps

s much as I love my N900 it is so frustrating to walk into a T-Mobile store here in the US and find that the simple Nokia Nuron has much newer version of Ovi Maps. While Nokia is busy launching voice navigation for the N97's and such, the N900 is left waiting in the wings. Does anyone have any news regarding when Nokia will again turn their gaze back to what is supposed to be their flagship device?

Not only does Nokia not support Ovi Map downloads on the N900...it also does not support Native Video calls and sending of photos/Video via MMS...sent a note to their support careline..and the reply below was what I received...:-(( This is NOKIA's FLAGSHIP product with 2 cameras and they do not support Video Calls....why launch a product with 2 cameras which does not do Video calls...Hope someone from NOKIA is reading this tread..don't launch products when it is NOT ready .... extreemely dissappointed...might have to consider other brands of phone for my next phone purchase.

It all depends on the one that they're making for MeeGo...If it works for that and can be converted back to Maemo, then we will get it...

thanks alot man, that should mean that every closed app, with easy codes thats can be converted to the n900, will be avaible for the n900, sounds like pr1.3 will be even better than pr1.2 .

Ovi maps wont display downloaded voice files

Hi
I have a C5-00 5MP and I downloaded maps for walking ("with street names"). But Ovi Maps seems unable to get aware of it : the menu allowing to select the walking guidance voice in settings remains empty. The voices for driving guidance are displayed OK though.
Anyone got an idea ? My software version is 071.003.

OK it works now !
I tried to select the option "Bips and vibrations" in the walking guidance choice menu, and it asked me to connect to download voice information or something like that. Afterwards, the voice list became more comprehensive, with the french voice (among others) visible.
I'd have prefered not to have to download, since I dont have data in my package. But it seems I didnt have a choice.
Btw there is now a file voice_catalog.FRE in the folder E:/CITIES/diskcache/VOICES. So the solution was actually to remove the voice_catalog.ENG from that folder. But it was necessary after that to go to the walking guidance choice menu in Ovi maps, and select the option "Bips and vibrations", as I said.

Ovi Maps 3.04: voice problem (Nokia X6)

I bought a Nokia X6 yesterday and I upgraded everything. So I have the latest Ovi Maps (v3.04) but there is no voice during drive or walk. I've deleted the 'cities' folder and the 'qf' file, then I've downloaded maps and some languages. I tried the navigation with each language that I've downloaded, but there isn't any voice.

First check to ensure that you have a voice selected. To do this, when in Maps, click on Spanner>Navigation>Drive Guidance. You will now see a list of voices. The ones with a little phone icon to the left are the ones already installed on your phone. Make sure you have one of them selected. Note there is a different voice setting for drive and walk.
Second thing to check is the navigation volume. After you start navigation, use the the volume up toggle.

However, instead of just the US (the current Google limitation sans hacking), Nokia will be demonstrating its reach by offering free turn-by-turn directions in 74 countries and 46 languages - a move that should cover 20 million smartphones globally with Ovi Maps available in over 180 countries.
Update: The original San Francisco Chronicle report has been pulled but Google cache caught a bit more saying that Nokia's navigation service is "capable of operating completely offline" unlike Google Navigation which requires data connectivity.
Update 2: Nokia just made the download link live. Hey, where's the N97 and N900.
Update 3: And it's official. Starting today, Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation is free across the globe. Drivers receive turn-by-turn voice guidance including lane assistance, traffic information (in 10 countries including the US), and safety camera and speed warnings while pedestrians will be guided on shortcuts through parks and pedestrian-only zones in over 100 cities across the globe. It all works offline too, which should extend battery life and keep that navigation humming even while puttering about in data dead zones without racking up international roaming charges (take that, Google). From March 2010, all new Nokia GPS enabled smartphones will come installed with the new Ovi Maps application and pre-loaded with local country map data and walk and drive navigation with access to location-aware Lonely Planet and Michelin travel guides at no extra cost. Ovi maps - turn off

Just wanted to discuss and get your feedback on when do you plan on including voice navigation and updated maps on N900, since its coming pre installed or easily downloaded on various other low cost phones by Nokia - when can we really enjoy Ovi and Nokia products, i switched from sony ericsson years ago, and have tried couple of phones until N900 which has really dispointed as compared to other phones and their support. Although i must say N900 is the best phone i've ever used, and i wish i could have all the functions and features as i enjoyed on less expensive phones

please broswe the forum with greater detail as this has been discussed.
their focus is on meego not maemo, so the n900 will most likely NOT get OVI MAPS VGN unless it is easily ported after meego release.

How to install OVI Map navigation for N95

Ok, getting very frustrated with this now. I have given my dad my N95 to help him get around but just cant get the map navigation to work. I downloaded the Nokia Map Loader (I had to go to a third party website as the Nokia links were all broken) and have the map/voices but when my dad tries to use the navigation it tells him he has to pay.
Obviously, I know that Nokia have now made these services free to complete with other company's devices, I'm just being stupid and not going to the right place to download them. When i go to www.nokia.com/maps on the phone it doesnt do anything. I've been trying for over a day now and the phone has almost made contact with the wall a few times - sorry to be a numpty, but how do you install the OVI map navigation stuff on the N95! :-)

Let's clear up any misunderstanding here, upon N95 there is no legititimate way of obtaining free voice navigation with version of Ovi Maps upon N95 as you would need to purchase a license!
You should run Ovi Maps application with a microSD inserted in N95 which will re-create necessary folder structure for Nokia Suite > Maps to recognise it.
Please note that standalone version of Nokia Maploader apart from version for Mac users ceased to be functional several years ago.
I still have N95 in use so post again if any further queries over this issue.
