N900: "Unable to use this SIM card in device" Erro...

Please can you help.
Yesterday evening, I suddenly couldn't get a GPRS or any other phone signal on my phone.  On switching off/on, I was informed of the above error message.
I tried rebooting the phone via the 'u' key (battery out) process and this did not solve the problem
I tried the SIM card in my old phone and it worked perfectly.   The N900 WLAN works normally.
I did nothing unusual with the phone yesterday evening so I am bemused at this error suddenly happening.

Thanks for your support. I followed your instructions but now PC Suite does not recognise my N900 so cannot access the file! Earlier I put my daughter's Vodafone SIM card in and the error message was "unable to establish network connection". Then the next time I tried the same message appeared with "Contact service" added!. I never got as far as technical help as it was approaching 8pm and they told me that they would deal with it tomorrow. The next time I tried the original error message came up. Weird.

  • Can I use a sim card from my galaxy S3 for and iphone

Wanted to know if I purchase an iphone 5 can I use the sim card from my Galaxy S3 Verizon phone.

    hi there,
    unfortunately you cannot.
The iPhone 5 uses a 4th generation SIM card (NanoSIM) while the Samsung Galaxy S3 uses a 3rd generation MicroSIM. You can however use your existing MicroSIM in an iPhone 4 or 4S
    Hope this helps,
    Chris

  • I want to upgrade my iPhone 3G to a used iPhone 4, can I use the sim card already in the 4 or must purchase a new sim card?

I want to upgrade my iPhone 3G to a used iPhone 4, can I use the sim card already in the 4 or must purchase a new sim card?

You might want to ask you carrier that question.  I can tell you that when I gave my old iPhone 4 to my wife we were able to get my old sim card that was in the 4 reprogrammed with the wife's phone number.  The AT&T store didn't charge us to do this.

  • Hello i try to use another SIM card with my iphone 4s now it said i need to unlock the phone with my Sim carrier

Hello i try to use another SIM card with my iphone 4s now it said i need to unlock the phone with my Sim carrier ... here is what it says below
The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.
The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information.

So..  You need to contact the carrier for the iPhone's original sim card, and request they unlock it.  The carrier is the only one that can unlock the sim of the iPhone.

  • Will i lose my unlimted data if i switch to a non-simcard smartphone to a phone that uses a sim card

i am currently using a 3G only Droid X2 and plan on switching to a Droid Razr Maxx 4GLTE, the droid X2 does not use a sim card but the Razr Maxx does, the Razr Maxx will be my first 4G phone and sim card phone, i was just curious if my unlimited data will be in tact when i make this switch from a non-sim card 3G smartphone to a sim card 4GLTE smartphone.?

Depends on how you get the Razr Maxx.  You will lose your unlimited data if you sign a new two-year contract and thus get a subsidized phone  If you want to keep your unlimited data, you can pay full retail price for the new phone, get it from someplace like ebay (anywhere that doesn't require you to sign a new two-year contract), or upgrade another line on your account (if one is available) and move that phone to your line.

  • Using a sim card w/ a verizon blackberry

i no longer use verizon, but use simple mobile. is it at all possible to use a sim card w/ a verizon blackberry?

Oh, dear. How strange. What was the point of taking the SIM out of my old phone, then? Do we  have any clue how the people at the Apple store are going to manage to transfer people's stuff? It doens't matter to me at all, btw, that I won't be able to sync music using iTunes going down the road. I can purchase stuff on the computer and then get it onto the phone by having it search for purchased items not on this phone. That works perfectly right now. But I don't want to lose my contacts, messages, documents, voicemails, and so on.
Which may mean that I'm not getting a new phone.
    Thanks for your answer, anyway.

  • I bought an iphone 4s from the apple store in HK, the model of the phone is A1387. Would it work if I use a sim-card using CDMA EV-DO Rev. A technique?

I bought an iphone 4s from the apple store in HK, the model of the phone is A1387. Would it work if I use a sim-card using CDMA EV-DO Rev. A technique?

Based on this issue, I have contacted Rogers. The procedure was very time consuming as I spent over 4 hours on the phone with multiple service reps, supervisors, and managers. This has cost me over $40 in long distance charges just for this phone call. In addition, they made me aware that I was sold an iPhone 4s that was locked to Rogers. Rogers charged me $57 for this unlock, and they said they could not waive this fee because it goes through apple. The typical procedure when apple sells locked phones, is that a replacement phone would be given to me free of charge by apple. I just do not understand why the service rep told me that the phone was unlocked, when actually the supervisor at Rogers confirmed that this device was originally locked to Rogers (traced from imei). I deserve compensation, and would like to hear a prompt response from apple with regards to this matter.

  • I have a mifi 2200. Can I use the sim card in it in my new jetpack?

I have a mifi 2200. Can I use the sim card in it in my new jetpack?

Hi Mike, congrats on the new jetpack! As evdotech mentioned, the MiFi 2200 does not use SIM cards because it is a 3G device. You would need a new SIM card for your jetpack. You can receive a software update in a VZW corporate store or by choosing Activate or Switch Device on My Verizon. This will ask for the SIM card number or ask if you need one mailed.
    I hope that helps!

  • HT201328 My iPhone is from Japan and I want to activate it here in the Philippines because I'm living here. I have lost the original SIM from Softbank and replaced it with a new SIM card from Globe. How can I use the SIM card from Globe?

My iPhone is from Japan and I want to activate it here in the Philippines because I'm living here. I have lost the original SIM from Softbank and replaced it with a new SIM card from Globe. How can I use the SIM card from Globe?

You cannot. The iPhone is locked to Softbank, and only they can unlock it. Problem is that Softbank will NOT unlock the phone, as they do not offer iPhone unlocking.
Buy an iPhone in the Phillipines.
PS Before you go on a rant at Apple, be aware that Apple does NOT unlock phones and they do not set unlocking policies. The carriers (Softbank in this case) set the unlocking policy.

  • Hi i just ended my service with my service provider and was wondering if i have to do anything to use my iphone 3gs with another carrier. do i need to get it unblocked to be able to use another sim card

I just ended service with my at&t and was wondering if i have to do anything like have my phone unblocked to use another sim card or use another provider

Now the deal here is, iOS 6 is out now, so in order to complete the instructions and restore it with iTunes, you have to update to iOS 6. I decided to keep 5.1.1, so I did NOT restore the phone. I checked a couple IMEI checker sites, and they all said my IMEI was unlocked, so rather than use iTunes, I just replaced the AT&T SIM with an O2-UK SIM card I had when using my Android phone in England. I was pleased to see T-Mobile show up as my carrier when I turned the iPhone on, and in Settings, it shows O2 as the carrier instead of AT&T, due to the O2 SIM being installed. Then a moment later, I got texts saying what my remaining British £ balance is, since I had leftover money on the SIM from my last trip, and another text said "Welcome to America, have a nice trip!"
The phone isn't jailbroken or anything like that. It's still on 5.1.1 with the proper, working Google mapping. Never restored via iTunes. Never updated to iOS 6. Any SIM card works. No tricks or hacks. You don't have to restore the phone to complete the unlock.

  • Using local SIM card abroad (ATT iPhone5)

Using ATT iPhone 5, latest iOS.  Taking my iPhone to France for a month, will use it as a camera and to make local phone calls.  Have my iPad mini for email, surf the web on wifi, etc. I have used local SIM cards for my old Motorola, but don't know if this works for a smartphone.  Is it "legal" to swap SIMs?  Will I lose data or settings?  Experienced travelers please advise.

Its perfectly legal to swap sim cards. The main issue is wether your iPhone is locked to a carrier or not. A carrier locked phone will not recognize sim cards from a different carrier. Only carrier unlocked phones can do this.
So the first thing to determine is if your phone is carrier unlocked.  since you mention it is an ATT phone I'm going to guess its not unlocked.
You will need to talk to ATT and explain the situation and have them unlock the phone as only the carrier can do it. They may or may not agree to do this.
Also, an  iPhone 5 uses a very special type of sim card, a Nano sim card, which is smaller than all other sim cards, so when looking for one make sure its of the correct size.

  • HT201328 Hi there, I just got the iPhone 5 from Optus with 24 months contact now I tried to unlock to use Vodafone SIM card but I can''t unlock pls can can tell is any other way to do. Thanks

Hi there, I would like to know how to unlock Optus  iPhone 5. I got an iPhone 5 from Optus new phone is only 2 months old and the phone is on 24 months contact . Now I tried to unlock but I can't unlock if I can unlock my phone so I can use in oversee next week. Can you please help me and tell me what to do to unlock to use other SIM card that's is not Optus only. Thanks

Only the carrier the phone is locked to can authorize unlocking it. Why do you think they would do so before you complete the terms of your contract? I don't know specifically what their policy is, but most carriers won't do so unless they are legally required to.
If you didn't want to use Optus, why did you sign a contract with them?
