N900 wirless problems

I can not seem to be able to connect my N900 with my home wireless net work. I have had no problems in the past with my N97, N96 E71 and so on...Any ideas?

Same here, I've tried everything and nothing seems to work. I called the Nokia assistance in Italy and UK and it takes ages to get a reply, Really useless.
If someone can help me, I would be really grateful.
I set up the WLAN connection, entered the pre-shared key, it shows the connection on the display but when it's time to load a page it takes ages or it doesn't work at all. I used other Nokia phones before and they all connected fine, but this one is giving me a headache.

750$ device: problems with supporting MS exchange server 2003 (still most commonly used), no real forum support (maemo developers usually don't reply you, probably busy with meego preparations - I don't blame them), slow and old processor (in the brand's flagship phone), no real GPS navigation - low end Nokia phones got it for free :/, fMMS buggy as hell free-only way to use MMS - an argument that iphone also didn't have it - I don't buy.
Ultra-bad battery - most of the real good features you can't use because of this: Widgets, the (otherwise very cool) display full brightness, 3G you have to switch off all the time. Literally when using it normally (internet, e-mail, calls, messages) with 3G, widgets, and normal display mode .. it goes down like after 4 hours at max..maybe less. And not even talking about Youtube... no native app, ofc. All the apps you can get – in mediabox, zoutube..and others (tried about 5) buggy as hell (again) – and I don’t need to download the videos, just watch them online, I would do that in the browser, but you’ve got to overclock the device to get the videos in a watchable way in the browser.
I am willing even to do that.. but some of the programs needed for that can’t be installed..and with no forum support (not even thinking about an official online one from Nokia)..one can’t get anywhere + by overclocking one ofc looses warranty, battery and device life.
So let’s conclude:
It is the most expensive and advanced Nokia you can get – it has literally its own OS – abandoned by Nokia after 6 months from release of N900.
It is not useful for work (poor MS exchange support, poor sync even with the newly released MS online services, poor and no native Google apps – Gmail, Google docs, calendar support, the email client doesn’t support search or categories). However, paid version of the docs to go is very good..
It is not useful for fun either (poor social networking apps even in extras-develop-testing, it is nice having all the computer game ports, however we all know the UI and the actual game play are **bleep**, and if you want to have at least the PS emulator...you again HAVE TO OVERCLOCK)
It is not useful for navigation (the GPS itself is of poor quality and you have to pay for something that low-end users have for free) Also it lacks digital compass – so no augmented reality here.
the FM transmitter (even with FM booster) doesn’t really work (tried in three different cars). The phone is heavy and the keyboard gets scratched really fast when using it regularly. Also the camera is much worse than in my 3 years old N82!! No useful twitter app – tweego, nice looking, but no search (**bleep**?) and I’m not even starting on witter.
I want to state that I don’t need a phone for dummies (iphone n’ stuff) and I’m willing to set my phone and spend a lot of time with installing it, going through forums and everything.. but what is too much is too much.
And it is great that it all runs now on QT, however most QT apps you can get now for maemo are useless, not working or demos only – and even if that changes in the future – do you seriously want to run on an outdated OS with no support from the manufacturer??.. I also don’t need everything for free..I am willing to pay for apps and software and everything. But!! Ovi offer for N900 is not even a joke! And what I am not willing to pay for is 3rd party navigation.. when Nokia distributes it to almost every other Smartphone for free.
With the OS – I would even go for paying for the MeeGo upgrade (whenever it would be ready and if Nokia would support Maemo – or should I call it N900 OS – properly meanwhile), BUT THERE WOULD HAVE TO BE AT LEAST AN OFFICIAL WORD FROM NOKIA that it would actually be possible.
The last thing I want to state is this – I don’t blame the technicians who created this phone, it could have been a hell of a gadget. I blame the product development, marketing and the business teams of nokia. Because god I swear I used to be a Nokia fan and supporter and I even defended N900...but what you’ve done releasing this phone could be called only a huge business cluster f**ck. You literally push people to buy smartphones elsewhere. Even though they don’t want to. Seems that the N97 nightmare wasn’t enough..
Switching to Android or even WM and Motorola, Samsung or HTC, even though I wanted to stay with Nokia.. but guys I at least need to read my work emails on my device.. with N900 it is not possible.

the emails... I really need to have total sync between my outlook and the phone.. I was expecting N900 as a high end -kind of work phone ..I'm talking about Exchange server - so even the web access we have has to go over VPN - and for that you need bunch of certificates.. and you're not able to get them for linux - that I'm sure..

finally the OS thing.. strange how people are used to think..
look at this from a different point of view:
Nokia was one of the first companies in the world to start with mobile phones.. right?
They had huge share of market - right?
They have got years of experience and advantage in techological expertiese - right?
They start to loose pace with smartphones and had been loosing it ever since N98 8GB - right?
Now - they fail once again...creating a device, which should have been superior.. and the development probably cost huge amounts of money.. when they create a platofrm without continuity...which is replaced by incompatible system 6 months after release of N900
- so the right answer is not.. well the others don't do it.. so we (Nokia) don't need to bother
- the answer is We are in deep sh**t considering the smartphones market and we are loosing market share.. in an incredible fast pace.. we should do something about it - we should learn from other's mistakes - we should do things better..
and btw - with Android upgrade to upper version - is normal.. I know I know - it is not like maemo and meego.. but they're running tests of meego on N900.. anyway

N900 Ringtone Problem

Hello!
I have a strange problem in my N900 Phone. Few days ago, after I upaded its firmware from Nokia ovi utility, now whenever some one call me it don't ring. But when I go to the profile section and change the ringtone from NokiaTune to some other ringtone then it rings. I connected the Mobile to my PC and opened the ringtone folder, I see that nokia tune is no longer in the folder but if you go the profile it will show that it has nokia tune install and it rings too but if you save setting and try to call the phone then it don't ring
I don't know what to do now. From where I can download Nokia Tune and saved it in the ringtone folder. Thanks

No.. it has nothing to do with your Active Profile during the firmware update... If you really want to take a try, re-install the firmware...

Nokia n900 email problem

Hi I have a nokia n900 version 3.2010.02-8
im currently having a problem with the email (mail for exchange 2003) i can send and receive email over a wireless Lan connection but not over the wap (web &walk T-mobile) has anyone else had the same problem?

at the moment, the only acknowledgments in sounds and vibration that i know of are triggered from the INBOX.

i got a ADSL2+ netgear Modem Router DG834 on my nokia n900 it says im connected to my Modem but when it wont go to a website what can i do to fix it sorry for my bad english

N900 backlight problems...

hi.
my N900 have some problem in backlight settings (or other place) and im not figuring it out:
after 10sec, the light will fade out a bit, but it will light OFF.
my display is always "on", even in "fade-mode"..
dunno why this is happening. i always bet that in the beggining my N900 after some seconds will totally display-light-OFF.
any ideas ? maybe something that i installed causing this?

i doubt it'll be a download causing it, unless you have installed a brightness app
might help to remove the battery for 30 seconds or even a factory reset
have you upgraded to pr1.3?

Airport G5 iMac Xbox 360 wirless problem *Please Help*

Hi - I was hoping that somebody might be able to give me a few hints about how to get Xbox 360live to work on a wireless network with my G5 imac.
I want the Xbox running downstairs with the iMac upstairs. I have tested it wired and it works fine. But wireless I cannot get a connection.
Here is what I have:
Sky Broadband connection. I have a Sky wireless router. I have enabled airport on my iMac and have put the relevant info into the Internet Connect window. It indicates a strong signal. I have bought an Wireless Adapter for the Xbox 360 and attached it but it does not seem to pick up a signal when I run the test.
I moved the Xbox to the same room as the iMac to see if distance was the issue but again no connection was detected. This is when I wired it directly to the router to see if it worked this way and it does.
I really need wireless though so please if anybody has cracked this problem let me know.

Since your iMac is able to get a good wireless signal, you know the 2Wire wireless router is working properly. On the other hand, the XBox wireless adapter under the same conditions sees absolutely no signal. My conclusion from this would be that either (a) the XBox wireless adapter is not functional, or (b) you are making some fundamental error in setup of the adapter.
Since this is a wireless networking problem between two non-Apple products, you might see if product support for your XBox wireless adapter can provide further assistance.

Wirless Problems

I have a Compaq Evo n800c laptop with a w200 multiport wireless network card that utilizes usb. The actual power is wired to the key combination FN(function)+F2. Hotplug seems to load the prism2_usb module as well as p80211.
Ive searched all over for imformation on this type of wireless device and I find conflicting information no matter where I go. On the gentoo forums, they said the module needed for this device is orinoco_usb.
One thing I do not understand is when I run iwconfig( i have wireless-tools and wlan-ng26 installed) i get a wlan0 interface, althought it says "no wireless devices available" I still shows up. It also shows up via ifconfig -a. If I rmmod the module prism2_usb, and do the same, the wlan0 interface does not show up in either iwconfig or ifconfig -a. If i modprobe orinoco it still does not show up. At this point I do not know which module to use since wlan0 shows up with prism2_usb loaded, yet on the gentoo forums, in a thread specific to my exact laptop they agreed the module needed was orinoco.
There also seems to be a problem bringing up the interface and or recognizing the interface. I downloaded the cvs version of orinoco drivers so that might be a problem, but I doubt it.

After googling the device info, it reports as an orinoco device, seems udev got the driver wrong, or something else happened.
I think I need to have udev/hotplug load a different module, everytime I turn on the device the prism modules are loaded. Can anyone tell me how I can have a different module loaded when this device turns on.

i have dropped my nokia n900 a few times, and now when i receive a text mssage i cant view it and when i can, it doesnt save to conversations, so i cant see my mssages with other people, its really annoying me, please help ?

Nokia N900, restarting problem

im having a Nokia N900, my phone is getting stuck from the begining, after updating maemo 5 the phone could not restart and stuck in loading screen

it is fixed in the latest firmware...but there is a new issue in the new firmware regarding sound level...the sound level has gone down and the nokia people said they are working on this issue...so lets just wait for a new firmware..
i personally love this fone (apart from the sound issue)..got it just about a week ago...

Just got a UK N900 rx-51_2009se_2.2009.51-1.203.2_pr_203 and I'm rather struggling with some things:
MMS; didnt get any operator settings for MMS, and can't find any way of creating an MMS. Can someone enlighten me?
Can this thing not be used in portrait mode other than for the phone dial pad?
When connecting to e.g. the wireless network they have in the pub, it wants me to push a button on the router, or type a pin into the router - why can't we just have the old fashioned way of "ask the pub staff what the key is, they tell me, and i type it in" - how do I enter the wpa key as a word without this pin/button pushing nonsense?
How can I type my SMS etc with a 3x3 key pad (like a phone) - I really don't like qwerty on phones.. I'm after a portrait mode, can-be-operated-with-just-a-thumb, 3x3 button layout with predictive text (i.e. like every phone in the history of the world) - how do I do that?
I can't find any form of Switch app (to copy contacts and messages off my old device) - how do we do this painlessly?
How do I make the phone forget all the badly spelled words the previous owner seems to have entered?
Can the thing that organises the main screen snap the icons to a larger grid or must I mess around nudging with the stylus till they line up? (They tend to jump out of line just as I remove the stylus from the screen)

No, use fMMS but be aware it's very beta, only allows picture sending with very rudimentary settings and you must change APN manually

No, apps have to be portrait specific and only dial pad and the browser (experimental) know of it

No - a WONTFIX bug. Configure the connection manually in settings instead and you can type the key

No. Transfer and Sync in Settings can retrieve only what Nokia Content Copier can (contacts, calendar, notes) but it's slightly more painless

Delete the .xxx.dictionary files from /home/user/.osso/dictionaries dir. May need to be root for this, see sites for info on adding repositories, installing rootsh etc

Nokia N900 headphone problem...

Hi, guys! i'm not sure if this issue's been raised before, but whenever i try to plug in a different headphone on my n900 it lets out a sound like it's coming out of underwater or sometimes the sound quality's good but the volume's really low the fact that it's volume's at its highest! and then when i plug an aux wire to connect it to a sound system, again the sounds like it's coming out of underwater..x_x please help..=((

depends on the headphones you are trying to use.
i would take your pair of headphones that came with the n900 and compare the two plugs to see if the contact bands are in the same areas. if not, this is the reason why you are getting what you are. the contacts are not touching the appropriate areas.

N900 sync problems

I am (cos that's all there is) using PC suite (7.1.40.1) to sync my N900 with outlook. But it's pretty hopeless
1. About 50% of the time it crashes
2. When it doesn't crash it doesn't sync all the entries - it won't handle calendar entries with info attached and it won't update contacts changed on the PC.
I've re-entered settings and started again several times but no joy.
Any suggestions?
TO NOKIA (IF YOU EVER READ THIS): IT'S VERY SLACK TO PRODUCE A GOOD SMARTPHONE THAT WON'T SYNC. WHEN DO WE GET OVI - YOU SHOULD HAVE ISSUED IT BY NOW - NOT REALLY GOOD ENOUGH

just like to tell that the N900 is an internet tablet, thus its mainly for web surfing. nokia just added something to it so that people will like it, especially those who love net browsing. so basically, N900 is an internet tablet with added mobile features on it. like the messaging capability. but apparently, not all the capabilities of mobile messaging is in it.

Wirless problem

I just installed windows 7 , and every time i try ro install wirless device it says "It is not adequate for running HP Wireless Button Driver"

Yes, you have to re-install the printer on the new network just like you did the with it on the first network.

Mac Wirless problem

Lately my mac connects to the network fine, and if i download something, sometimes the internet cuts out completely and won't pick up any networks. Its an older computer I got it in 2007.
The only way to fix it is to reset. This is a pain to do every time.
