N91 hard drive dissapeared!

Hi folks
can any1 help me.i transfered some music files onto my n91 and now the hard drive doesnt work-it was a bit dodgy before (in message settings, when trying to change from phone memory to hdd it would keep reverting back to phone memory)but now theres nothing showing up on the gallery, all the games have dissapeared-it still shows in memory details that memory in use is 3327mb and 511mb free memory-ive not tried to reset as there are resent video and photo files that i don't wanna get rid of!!(also when trying to link it to pc it doesnt bring the drive up!)
Can any1 please give me sum advice!
thanks!

One thing you can try is to reset the phone using the instructions you can find in this post :
/discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=4007
However please be aware that doing so will wipe ALL the data from your phone such as information in your calendar, contacts and so on.
In order to save your data you can use the PC Suite application to save and restore the data from your phone - this software can be found here :
http://www.nokia.com/pcsuite
One thing to note is that as part of these diagnostics, you should NOT restore any backup or install any software on the phone as you could be putting the problem back onto the phone.
If this doesn't work then it's likely you have a hardware fault and you should approach your local Nokia Service Centre to get your phone fixed.
Hope this helps.
Please let me know how you get on.
Regards,
Edward

i know this is a bit if a dumb question seeing as the phone has not been released, but does anyone have a clue what sort of hard drive this phone will use? i mean, if it is like a 2.5" one then it can be removed and replaced with a larger one right? even if its a 1.8" hdd this can be removed to. think about what you could replace it with, a 40gb hdd? that would be sooo cool

  • N91 Hard Drive Issues

Ok so last night I was installing music to my N91 via bluetooth. The phone shut off and shut back on and when it did everything that was saved to my hard drive was gone! All of my music, images, apps vanished.
I checked the hard drive and the memory used is 846mb but I have no clue what is being used.
Have there been any other issues like this and if so is there a solution?

Connect your phone in mass storage mode to the computer and the computer will see it as a removable hard drive. Then run a file recovery apllication, and, finally, after you get your files back, format the phone's hard drive.
    This should solve it.
    Keep me posted.

I'm actually doing that as we speak (or type). When I connected it I saw a folder with no name, just a dot (.). Don't know what that is but I get an error message when I try to open it.
I'm doing a scan and recovery. If I format the phone's hard drive won't that erase all of the data?

Did you also formatted the hard drive?
What is your FW version? *#0000#.
    The latest is 2.20.008 on N91 4GB.
I guess the problem you have told was visible mainly on version 1.00 or 1.10.

  • N91 Hard Drive Tools

I was reading the user manual/help files in the Help menu on the phone and I came across the Hard Drive tools section, I read that theres many options, such as Defragmentation and other useful disk utilities.
But, I've checked my Hard Drive and I only have one option and thats the Format tools.
Does anyone have all the options enabled or just the Format option?

Hi Liam, while it is true that formating the HDD with Windows is different than the format in the device that doesn't mean it will break anything. With TWO big exceptions:
    1. VERY IMPORTANT. The N91 DOES NOT support NTFS file format. This is the normal file format for Windows XP. IT supports FAT32 so you have to formal in FAT32 and not NTFS. IF you format in NTFS the HDD will cease to work PERIOD! So be sure to format in FAT32.
    2. Also I found out is that when you format using the N91, the HDD gets folders created, but if you use Windows no folders are created.
Finally, it should be noted that HDD get fragmented over time and can get some errors so using "Error checking" and "Defragmentation" from Windows (selecting properties then tools tab). So these are useful tools to improve the performance of the HDD.

Hi I have a problem I go to transfer music suddenly there was a power cut of electricity when I wanted enter into the music player I have this message can not access to hard drive replace the battery cover I followed these instructions but not the phone blocks
I do an update still the same problem
    Please help me

The n91 4GB wid firmware v2.10.013 does not have any hdd errors or problems becuase the firmware is stable if people who have n91 4GB wid firmware below v2.10.013 den dey are going to get a lot of hdd problems coz wen dey use format option on n91 it doesnt format da hdd properly n dat leaves it to faulty corruptions so hdd does not read correctly. so therefore your n91 8GB firmware v3.00.060 is the first firware for n91 8GB.
Try flashing it to other country variants eg instead of Euro1 try France. Euro 3. O2 network etc dey might have da fix for it.Message Edited by shayesta on 09-Mar-2007

  • Library on hard drive - dissapeared images...

    Hey all
Have been using iphoto for some time and started to run out of space on my powerbook - so bought a portable hard drive and moved library on there.
Worked perfectly for 6 months, but a week ago created a second library on my powerbook for when i don't have the drive. Different name. Swapping between them using the option key on loading up - again perfect.
But in the last few days when i go to switch back to the hard drive version, I select the file - see that it is 40gb, click to open, BUT NONE OF THE PICTURES OR ALBUMS APPEAR...
I have a backup, but will have lost some current work in progress. Any ideas??
No error message, but it has said that thumbs needed updating which i said fine to...
    Cheers
    Ash

    Ash
Why might that have happened in the first place?
A damaged database file occurs when the app is interrupted while writing to the db. A crash, a force quit, minor hard disk issues... any of these can cause the problem.
Is it alright having two libraries?
Perfectly, iPhoto Library Manager makes managing this very easy - including moving pics/albums/events between the Libraries.
do you personally use Aperture - as the reason behind all of this is that i am currently swapping between the two programs.
I use Aperture, but my family prefer iPhoto for the simplicity. So I process my own RAW's in Aperture then output the jpegs for the iPhoto Library.
Were it not for the others in the house I would have migrated over completely by now. Aperture can do everything that Aperture can, and then a whole lot more.
I have a backup from 2 weeks ago, but have done at least 15 shoots since then - if i take the file to overwrite from the backup - what will happen to the images from this period?
If you overwrite the db file then iPhoto will simply not know about those other shoots. So drag the event folders from the iPhoto Package File to the desktop and re-import them.
If I take the opportunity now to migrate everything to Aperture - can i do that whilst keeping all the originals and modified intact
Yes, use the Import iPhoto Library command.

  • IBook G4 800MHz, Hard Drive dissapears

    Hello,
I've been searching on these discussions boards for a while now but can't find any clues to what's going on.
I just got my hands on an iBook G4 800Mhz who's owner explained how the Hard Drive just "died" one day and when he took it in to be looked it, they said the Hard Drive needed to be repaired.
It sounded like a simple task for me, so I switched the Hard Drive out with an apple 30GB HD I had laying around from a previous 1Gb iBook G4 I had laying around.
OSX installed properly but midway through the second update to 10.4.9 (after 1 restart) it stopped, froze and wouldn't do anything for 25 minutes.
So I powered it down and restarted the computer.
It had that Folder with the Question Mark on it flashing, so I restarted again, same thing.
I popped in my OSX 10.4.6 cd and booted off to check out the HD, at first it showed the HD as a grey disk icon with a "disc0s3" so i tried to install osx again doing a clean install (erase drive then install)
halfway through the installation it froze, I restarted and the hard drive was now gone. Everytime I went to Disk Utility it only showed the OSX CD I booted off.
After several restarts and half a pizza pie later, the hard drive was showing up again, so I am now again reinstalling OSX and doing it's updates.
Could this be a Logic Board problem? Or something far worst than a new Hard Drive?
The hard drive I'm using in it now is about 2-3 years old which I got in my G4 iBook 1GHz (which now lays in pieces on the floor, it's been broken for a long time now but I jsut can't bare to throw it out)
Should I spend the $$$ and buy a brand NEW Hard Drive?
Any opinions or hints would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

    24" iMac 2.16GHz 256mb Vid   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Ok, here's some new information on what's going on.
After I saw that error earlier, I googled it up and zapped the pram which didn't do anything. I kept getting kernel panics as soon as it booted up on the grey screen with the grey apple.
I let the computer cool off for an hour and reinstalled osx, did the updates and sat in front of it waiting for it to crap out again; which happened about45 minutes later. The screen turned blue, I thought it was going to "sleep" mode but it just turned blue then dimmed.
Finally it was frozen and i forced it off and booted off the osx cd, and sure enough the HD Header was damaged. I repaired the disc with disk utility and rebooted straight into OSX.
This all leads me to believe it's a problem with the HD part on the MoBo itself which means I'll have to replace the whole thing
    thoughts?

  • Hard Drive Dissapeared

I have a dual 867 with a 60 GB and a 160 GB hard drive. The 160GB had OS9 and OSX both. I was in OS9 today and was working on getting my DSL working. When I restarted, the computer booted up in OSX on the 60GB hard drive and the other one never showed up on the desktop. I can see the drive in Disk First Aid but no volumes and I can do anything but reformat the drive. I ran the Drive Genius Demo and there are no bad sectors. I also ran the Data Rescue II and it seems like all my files are still there. Please help. I am not going to pay $100 for a program to recover my disk but I don't want to reformat it unless I ablsolutely have to.

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
It's not exactly clear what you are saying, but, I assume you want to select the 160gb drive for start up?
Also, you can see the drive in disk repair, but you can or can't repair it?
For now, stop messing around with demos and such. If you can't select the drive, demos and data recovery won't help, and could make things worse.
Check your System Preferences/Startup Disk, and see if the desired drive can be selected.
Also, on restart, hold down the option key, and select the drive from the options.
If the above fail to select your disk, in the following order:
    -Try a different User account
-Startup in Safe Mode, and run Disk Utility
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
-Startup from your OS install disk, and run Disk Utility
If you can't start in safe mode, or from install disk,
-Startup in single user mode, and run fsck:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
If those don't help, and your data is worth more than $100, buy DiskWarrior.
    If not,.........post back, please.

  • Hard drives dissapearing on Airport

Somewhat out of the blue, I received a warning when Airport Utility said I had a drive that was showing errors and advised me to connect directly to repair it.
I have done as suggested but now my 1TB drive - which is partitioned into 3, all of which I want to be visible on the network - is only showing 1 partition on the network.
Here's what's showing in Airpot setup:
    http://is.gd/6IUv
Yet if I connect the drive directly, all of them show up OK:
    http://is.gd/6IUB
I ran disk utility - chose repair at disk and partition level. First time a problem was reported but fixed. Now Disk Utility is showing no issues:
    http://is.gd/6IUE
Finally here's a Get Info on all three drive when connected directly. Not sure what this will show, but to me all looks OK:
    http://is.gd/6IUN
So, what should I do to get these drives visible on the Airport Extreme base station? I kinda feel that I should remove and start again ... but I'm not sure I know how to do this...
    Any ideas?

Giving this a nudge as I haven't seen any replies yet. Wuld really appreciate a hand with this.

  • Problems with connection to hard drive

Hello, I am currently using my Time Capsule for both Wi-Fi, and storing my iTunes folder on the hard drive. The Wi-Fi seems to always work perfectly. However, twice so far in the space of a week I've had an error message when using iTunes:
    Server connection inturrupted: Time Capsule
At which point the icon for the hard drive dissapears from my desktop. Both times happened after my computer had been in standby mode for a while - although this hasn't happened everytime after standby.
Both times I found unplugging my Time Capsule and plugging back in re-set the connection successfully. However, I don't want to have to keep doing this, when I've spent so much money on something, I expect it to be reliable.
Is the Time Capsule fundamentally unreliable? Do you think I may just have a faulty one? Is there any settings I could change that might help stop this happening? Advice would be very gratefully received. Thanks,
    Malinna

Further to this it just happened again straight after I reset the TC. I got the following error messages:
The iTunes library file could not be saved. An unknown error occured (13005)
Connection failed. The server may not exist or is not operational at this time. Check server name or IP address and your network connection and try again.
It also might be worth mentioning that my laptop is right next to the TC.
It's my last chance to return it this weekend, so any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks,
    Malinna

  • N91 splitting messages between hard drive and inte...

    Hello.
I have a lot of messages that were taking up a lot of space on the internal memory and making the phone perform sluggishly. So under Messaging > Settings > Other > Save messages, I set it to save them on the N91. However, I feel it might not be so efficient du to the hard drive usage, as I also have several mailboxes set up which I regularly check hence increased drive usage = low batery.
However, if I then change the option to use the internal memory, messages are saved to the new location but my existing messages/mailboxes become inaccessible.
My question is, how can I move just, say my mailboxes and thlast wee or so worth of messages to internal memory, have that used for new messages, have the older ones saved on the hard drive but still have them accessible to me?
    Thanks.

Ah thanks, but that is a shame. I do of course try to keep the numbers down, but due to circumstances I have to keep records of all correspondence (it's saved me several times already).
I do find it odd though that once you've changed the location of messages you can't see the ones in the original location even though they are still present. Is there no app or hack that can allow me to at leave move messages between the locations (and more importantly my mailboxes) to the internal memory? I suppose I could leave with changing the storage setting if I needed to look at older messages on the hard drive, but having to re-setup all the mxilboxes just because they become 'hidden' is a real pain.
    Thanks again.

  • How can I format toshiba canvio USB 3.0 Hard drive (Windows 7 w/U3 software preinstalled) for mac?

Purchased Toshiba part number HDTC605XL3A1 - 500Gb USB 2.0 & 3.0 external 2.5-inch self powered hard drive through Amazon. On two different MacBooks (both Core i5--1 Air and 1 Pro) we can't get the drive to show up using Disk Utility nor can we scan for it/see it with any other available tools in Lion or Snow Leopard.
Any ideas? Toshiba has stopped producing Mac specific USB drives apparently and their technical support can't get it to work. The suggest formatting it on a Windows computer with FAT32 but don't have one easily available.

Hi, have you checked on System Information to make sure the Mac is actually recognizing the hardware? (type system information on spotlight and click USB on the left)
I had a simmilar problem with a Seagate Freeagent Go drive. It showed up on the hardware list for a few secconds and then dissapeared as if I had unplugged it, meanwhile the HDD was still on and spinning. Called Seagate and they told me to do a PRAM & SMC reset, this solved the problem, although it still happens every now and then.
Mac OS X can see NTFS formatted drives too, the only limitation is that it can not write on them (without third party add ons) so I doubt it's a formatting problem.
I'm not sure if you are having the same problem, but you should give it a shot.
    SMC Reset
For Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    PRAM Reset
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Your computer's PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models.
Let me know how it goes.

  • N91 - Hard Disk Dead?

I have just started having a problem with my N91 where, when I turn it on, it freezes on the opening screen, and the hard-drive works. However, the hard drive appears to be making a louder noise than usual, a clicking noise. The only way out of this is to remove the battery.
If I turn it on without the battery cover, it boots normally, and all functions that don't require the hard disk work fine, but it won't grant access to the hard disk without me replacing the battery cover. As soon as I do this the phone locks, and the hard drive makes clicking noises again.
It will be a bit of a shame if the hard-disk data cannot be recovered, as although I have recently backup up the videos I took, and have backups of pretty much all the other data (things that came with the phone, general data files, music etc.), I didn't get copies of all the photos onto my computer's hard disk for a while.
Also, it will be a shame if it can't be repaired, as this was (and still is) the perfect phone for me, and apart from this has caused very little trouble (and I was going to hang onto it for a good while yet - I'd just treated it to new earphones for out and about use too).
Any ideas? Or is it just off to the nearest Nokia centre to hope they can do something?
    Thanks,
    Martin

Well, if it's dead and can't be repaired, they should surely be giving me a replacement under warranty? Otherwise that would be totally unacceptable!
Sending it direct seems like a good option to me, as long as I can find an appropriate phone that takes the sim card. Do you know if a Nokia 3410 (should have one somewhere) will take the 3g sim card? (I had to change the sim card and transfer the number across when I upgraded, as apparently the old one wouldn't support any 3g functionality). I concerned in case different standards have different voltages and the card or phone "blow up" as a result - don't want to have to skulk to my network for a replacement!
The N82 doesn't have music buttons ON THE PHONE (I'd probably prefer the N95 8GB, although the Xenon flash of the N82 is nice). Nice extra features, but then again, the sound of these phones has been criticised compared to the N91.
The N81 is not a bad replacement (but not so nice stainless steel, and crowded buttons), although not really much better in most respects, so if it were a free replacement in case of N91 being unrepairable, or if my N91 were out of warranty I'd consider it.
However, as my phone is in warranty, I think I'll avoid spending rather a lot of money on the phone for now (I'm on a £15 a month contract - the cheapest contract from my network with an upgrade is £25 a month for the next 18 months, plus probably another £100 lump sum at least. This works out at least £280. If getting a phone from elsewhere sim free, it would be similarly expensive).
Thanks for your upgrade ideas though.
