N95 8GB GPS

Hi, after I installed new firmware 20.0.016, the Maps is not working. I installed Maps 2.0 but still not working cannot connect satellites. Any comment how to resolve it?

Works for me. Don't know why it doesn't work for you.
Note: Before I upgraded my firmware from v15 to v20, I reformatted the mass memory ( E-drive ). After the firmware upgrade, I updated to Maps 2.0.

Hi. I just brought nokia n95 8gb(Singapore model). I just updated my cell to 11 firmware. Now i have a big problem with GPS. I can find some satellites but i cant establish connection with them. How i can fix this problem? All the time if im going to google maps for example i can only see yellow blinking(satellite search) ...it never turns green...And i'm living in USA,New York. I tried differenet places and it doesnt work..Singapore phone doesn't work properly in US?

Yeaaaaah i fixed the problem by myself. Make sure everybody check in GPS data>Options>Positioning settings> that you disable bluetooth GPS and Network based. Yessir.U can close this topic.

  • I like to know how to User a Nokia N95 8GB, as GPS...

    Hiya Everyone,
I had download a great app called KISMAC Trunk for MAC OS X 10.5, within the app it has a GPS map, but i cannot work out how, by using my Nokia N95 8GB phone, as a GPS receiver, i can see that the N95 is getting singles from the satellites, but i would like to know if there is or is not, away for the GPS data to be able to be used by KISMAC software?
I have tried loads of thing, but i cannot get the Phone and the MAC to used the GPS data
Please can anyone shed any light how i could get a fix from my problem?
    Thanks

    and i can report success with [ http://www.symarctic.com/beta/static.php?page=extgps_download ]
i haven't used it in a while now, but if i recall correctly i used this app on my N95-1, and something like gpsX on my Powerbook to receive the gps data.
at the time i found these apps by searching for info on using my N95 as a GPS for google earth.  i'd bet searching for info re: google earth will turn up more results than searching for info re: kismac (one is a bit more socially acceptable than the other).

All existing ephemeris GPS data would be lost by software re-installation so as farby points out initial positional fix may take up to 30 minutes.
Also check to see whether device has Ovi Maps v3.01 now installed as not part of firmware:

  • GPS on N95 8GB on Pay As You Go?

    Hey guys,
I have an N95 8GB Black which was bought off someone who got it as an upgrade on a Vodaphone contract, but I'm using it on Orange pay as you go.. I was wondering what is up with the GPS because wherever I am it just won't find my location? It just shows the yellow flashing lights as if it is trying to find it, but I have left for hours and no luck...
It's not like there are no satellites as well, I've checked and at times it will show 3 or 4 or even 5!
Also can someone outline the costs involved with GPS (if any) as I'm not really sure how it all works.
    Thanks!

    Hi shyamt
As the internal GPS receiver is fairly feeble partly due to the siting of antenna, it depends upon the Assisted GPS feature to speed up establishment of position. This feature requires an active connection which can be altered in Nokia Maps > Options > Settings > Network - connection = As needed rather than Never. The amount of data downloaded for a position fix is about 5kb.
You don't say whether you are indoors or whether you have tried outside away from tall buildings and trees. You should hold phone at 45 degrees with slider open. I do have concerns that GPS receiver is not working if you never get Three green LEDs
If you go to Menu > Tools > GPS data > Position > Options > Positioning settings there are 4 options available, of which 3 should be ticked - Internal GPS, Network and Assisted GPS.

  • After update N95 8gb i got big problems.

I make a backup of all but not the 8gb-memory, and restured all after upate, and everyting seems to work fine.
First problem; i see now i have no 3g 3 (no connection) competely dead, i can not use the phone to communicate.
Strange everything work fine after update yesterday and this morning, something happen when it was in the locker at work.
And now i can't use Maploader, it say i have no memorycard, i understand that problem, i delete the whole Cities-folder this morning, because i dont need Nokia GPS-program Wayfinder anymoore, i choose Nav4all instead, i try the maploader only to for testing, i don't want to download any maps.
I test maploader now only bacause my phone is completely dead in communication, try to find out why.
I check in Nokia Nseries PC Suit everything on PC & mobil are the latest update.
I have another mobile SE M600i with 3g 3-cashcard, i by that cashcard only to enable the phone to start, not for communication, that mobile have full 3g (and probably work fine).
Was it the thing that i delete the Cities-map, no it can't be, because i use the N95 8gb and it work fine after that.
after work i even have a missed call on that mobile, but i can't call back, it's dead in communication now.
    Strange things happens now.

Is your phone in another language? You should normally see 2 or 3 options.
    1. Dual Mode
    2. UMTS
    3. GSM
Maybe you could try reseting the phone if nothing else works.
Always remember to backup your phone before performing resets as your data may be lost.
    Try these
*#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default
    *#7370# - Reformat your phone

  • N95 8GB vs W960i

I have a N95 8GB that is now at Nokia service center after a problem with the main camera
I then bought immediately a W960i to get another phone I can use on WIFI networks
I am astonished how the W960i is much more advanced than the N95 8GB that seems to be a old designed phone looking like a project made by school students
The Symbian on the W960 is very fast, nice look
The N95 8GB has this more than the W960 :
    -5M camera
    -stereo speakers
    -3,5mm jack
    -seems the battery is better
    -GPS
The W960 has the same screen size and has this better than the N95 8GB :
    -user interface
-very fast USB (it takes hours to upload 8GB on the Nokia and nothing to the W960)
    -better music player
    -better video player
-better messaging with SMS with full features
    -touch screen
-mini keyboard on the touch screen
    -very good predictive text entry
-also a funny hand recognition text input
-predictive word and predictive next word !
    -better software for the PC
    -many langages installed
    -very good in ear supplied
    -half the price
There are so many features that I would like the same on the N95 8GB

you can lole as long and as hard as you feel
but when you own both phones it is not very difficult to choose which one is the best
and it is not the N95 for me

    Hi Nick,
Not certain what is causing the problem, but I do know that your phone needs to download maps, so you should connect using GPRS or Wifi to download the maps and then you should have maps for your locality, but you will need to connect again if you move outside of the locality. The best advise I would say is to get an internet add on for your phone so you won't be charged extra.
you may be able to download maps and load them on also. You may also need to turn off the network assisted GPS so you are only using the built in GPS not the internet to find where you are.

  • Nokia N95 8Gb Maps V2.0 problems.

I have had the new Nokia N95 8Gb for just over 2 weeks - I had it from my local Carphone Warehouse in Broughton (near
Chester). The problems I have with Nokia Maps V2.0 are as follows :-
    1. Very slow on calculating a route - I am visiting numerous factory sites around the UK, so I saved the postcodes. On this particular occassion, I wanted to plan a known route home from one of the sites (53 miles), and I was nearly home when it had planned the route.
    2. When a route has been calculated, the cursor showed itself just to the side of the road I was on, thus telling me I was not on a road.
    3. Keeps changing the orientation - from pointing in the diretion I want to go (forward), to the direction I have been (backwards).
    4. Planned road display changes from full width to narrow line - at this point, it no longer knows where it is and tries to recalculate route until the road changes back to full width.
I looked at the various forums (both Nokia and others), and there are many threads reporting the problems I have described above. I tried all of the suggestions including :-
    1. Switching off Assisted GPS - in the Positioning methods - seemed to make no difference.
    2. Use an external GPS receiver - much better in locating position, but still the same problems in reliability detailed above.
    3. Switched off the go online when starting up Nokia Maps - this just made locating position take much longer.
    4. Full hard reset of the phone, twice - no improvement.
    5. Download Nokia Maps V2.0 and re-install - no improvement.
The overriding conclusions from the various forums was that Nokia Maps V2.0 is a backward step and that Nokia Maps V1.2 was so much better. As a consequence, I downloaded Nokia Maps V1.2 and loaded this up. I used it for a 400 mile round trip with no problem at all - directions were clearly displayed, route calculation was quick and it never lost it's position. Unfortunately, I can only use the route planning for 3 days - free test from Nokia when I connected to see licence details. The
only issue I have is that as my car has Bluetooth, I cannot use the voice navigation whilst using Nokia Maps, however, this is not an issue as I just keep checking the screen.
As I am pretty reliant on being able to get to the various sites without complications, there is no way that I will reload Nokia Maps V2.0 until I can be assured of its reliability. Unfortunately, I can not use the route
planning either as my licence relates to Nokia Maps V2.0. What I want is to either transfer my 2 licences to Nokia Maps V1.2, or have a refund for Nokia Maps V2.0 and then purchase licences for Nokia Maps V1.2.
Any assistance would be gratefully received. I have been in contact with Nokia Care who have suggested reloading maps 2.0, however I have already done this. They now suggest updating the phone software, however, it is at v 30.0.018 (pre-loaded) which is the latest version. I am due to take it in to my local Nokia Care Centre tomorrow and let them look at it.

this is my 1st time on this forum. i've got n95 (silver) that has recently been upgraded to software v31.0.017. I also had to upgrade map loader to get maps v2.

The back cover will not fit properly if you try to use the bl-6f in the N96. The back cover is used as an antenna Bluetooth, WLAN, GPS and DVB-H on the N96 and a poor fit would affect signal reception.

  • ISync cannot find my handset (N95 8GB)

there is a lot of troubles with contecting N95 8gb to Mac:
    1. iSync is not responding to USB connection, it says: NO DEVICE FOUND
    2. when starting connection with Mac via USB connection, there is info message coming out, "USB CONNECTION IN USE, MASS MEMORY CANNOT BE USED". anyhow transfers are working fine. another thing is when you're done, there is no option in the handset how to end the connection, so logically you do it on computer, you eject the device. then there is info message coming out (for half a second), "DATA CABLE NOW CAN BE REMOVED". is about three seconds later coming second info message telling you "DATA MAY HAVE BEEN LOST. DATA TRANSFERS SHOULD BE STOPPED BEFORE REMOVING CABLE."
data is not lost, but here comes the best bit: i want to listen to music that i put inside, and the music player is just frozen, for around 20 to 30 minutes.
Same thing happens with camera sometimes, you make a pict, then you wanna show it to your mate, review is just frozen, and often happens that you jsut give up to wait for "LOADING" message.

this happens when apps on the phone are using the memory card. for example, if your Messaging app (SMS, MMS, EMAIL) stores its data on the card, rather than internal memory, then you will get this message. make sure all applications are closed before trying to use the card. or use PC Suite mode instead, and use the Nokia Multimedia Transfer application. This application provides access to the memory card through a proxy application on the phone, rather than direct physical access (the proxy is invisible to you, you just drag and drop files, the app on the phone is told where to place the files, it works fine).

the DATA MAY BE LOST message is due to a bug macosx (someone correct me if i'm wrong). i have the SAME PROBLEM with my 8GB thumbdrive. i believe macosx is attempting to poll the device to remount it after i have manually ejected it. i have found that if i wait about 60seconds after unmounting that either 1) it automatically remounts, or 2) if i remove the usb drive, i get no error message.
i am curious about the music player app. on my n95-1, when i push new music onto my phone via Nokia Multimedia Transfer, i have to manually REFRESH to music library. perhaps your n95-8gb is doing this automatically? i only push 600MB of music to my microsd card and it takes a good 5 minutes to refresh, if you are pushing 3GB of music then this behavior makes sense to me (although it is unfortunate the Nokia Multimedia TRansfer doesn't do this for us). i wonder how your phone reacts to uploads from the Nokia Multimedia Transfer app? why would you possibly push music to the phone without using Nok..Mult..Trans..?

i cant disagree with you, but neither can i agree with you. i LOVE my N95-1. some features are not very cleanly implemented - like a race horse that stumbles fairly often, but the leanest fastest most hardcore race horse out there. if you want a smooth ride, i'm sorry. this horse doesn't trot. if you want an exhilarating ride, hold tight, it doesn't l=take long to get accustomed to the stumbles and figure out how to avoid them - then teh ride is fantastic.

Taking out an N95-2 as an upgrade for contract renewal when you already have an N95-1 is not something I'd do, personally. You may have different criteria but this is how I see it at least.
The -2 has 128MB of system memory and can therefore run more applications and process more complex web pages etc. That's a good point in the phone's favour.
However, that's about all it offers more than the N95-1. It has the same camera (which no longer has a lens cover here), the GPS is the same... OK, it has 8GB of on-board memory. You can get that by stuffing a £30 memory card in the N95-2's slot. The N95-1 has 2 considerable advantages over the N95-2 in this area: 1) if the phone has a problem linked to the mass memory you can remove the card from the -1 and format it in a card reader using your desktop computer (you can't remove the mass memory of the -2). 2) When larger capacity cards become avaiilable, as they will soon, you'll be able to have an N95 with 12GB or 16GB of mass storage while with the -2 you're stuck at 8GB.
OK, the screen of the -2 is bigger than that of the -1 by 0.2" so it's better for video and viewing photos full-screen.
On balance, I don't think the N95-2 offers enough "plus" over the N95-1 to entice me to renew a contract to get one.
    But that's just me...

  • N95 8GB - Pay to use sat nav?!

Am I missing something? I paid a fair wedge for my N95 8GB, and one of the things that attracted me to it was the built in sat nav.
Today I go to use it properly for the first time and find that I have to pay to activate one of the most obvious functions, namely the navigation to a destination!! Not only that, but this cost is only for a limited time period then I have to pay again!
I really hope I'm missing the point and someone can tell me what I'm missing, or guide me to an alternative app I can install?
    Thanks

    Couldn't agree more my man.
Well.... Being a Moto / SE fan myself...
Against my better judgment - I let my wife buy an N95. One of the major selling points (To her) was the built-in GPS.
I'm sorry - But I have a problem shelling out a grand on a phone, then to be politely informed that it will cost a further $100 per year to use the navigation system. (In Aust.)
Without the $100 a year subcription - the GPS is useless! (I'm sorry Jericho - but if the thing can't tell you how to get from A to B - Then it's NOT a navigation system)
And PER YEAR? So do we get a different voice every 12 months?
Will work better in 5 years time? (After all it will be a $500 investment by then)
THEN - my mate goes and buys the far cheaper (and theoretically lower spec 6110 Nav) - guess what? Route-66 included - WITH voice guided navigation out of the box? No extra charge to you sir...
What am I missing here NOKIA? Did I just buy the more expensive phone to get shafted harder?
Yes I know I can go and buy route 66 or Garmin XT - But when I can purchase a navteq based handheld for $170 (I have one in front of me) - where is the justification?
