N95 8GB LCD Screen.

Hello,
I have an N95 8GB with a cracked LCD screen. Just wondering where is the best place to purchase another screen? I've noticed them on E-bay around £30. Would I be able to purchase one through Nokia? That way I know it wouldn't be a fake.
Cheers Tom.

Trying to change the screen yourself is likely to cause more damage unless you are certain that you know what you are doing. We cannot help you here with self repairs as it's against the rules.
A nokia care point can supply and fit a new screen for you without any risk. Give your nearest one a call to find out the price as it differs greatly between countries.

  • N95 8Gb White Screen of Death - can't reset

    Hi Guys,
First up - I love my N95 8Gb - best darn thing I ever brought.
It was a Malaysian product code one but I changed that to EURO1 so I could get the latest firmwares. That all went fine for a few updates.
Recently I went to the latest firmware, and the update went ok. I then went to restore my phone backup, and the only suggestion that anything was wrong was a message saying something could not be restored - but the event log didnt say what couldnt be restored - that bit was blank.
Anyway a few days later the problems started, I plugged into the charge and the phone went into a continuous reboot.
I got it back by the CALL+*+3 key at start trick, and decided to reflash the firmware. Again the flash went ok, but after trying to restore my data the phone died.
This time it was permenant. I get a white screen when I turn the phone on and nothing else. CALL+3+* doesnt work this time.
Anyway, cutting to the chase, my phone is in for repairs, but I have three questions:
    1. Anyone else had this?
    2. Any ideas what might have caused it? I am suspicious about the restoring of my data and that message" some items could not be restored"
    3. How do they fix that sort of problem? Some sort of special box that directly flashes the firmware?
If it was the restore, is there a way to get just my contacts and gallery back from the previously created restore file? The Apps I can reinstall but I dont want to loose the contact data.
    Cheers
    -Al

Oh - a bit more info:
    I had installed:
    Emoze
    Nokia MSN Messenger
    Opera Mini
    Garmin Mobile XT
    Google Maps
    Google Search
Sounds a bit like what this guy had, before I got WSOD:

  • N96 v N95 8GB

With all the n96 negativity, im starting to have second thoughts on upgrading. Could u guys jus give me a quick n96 v n95-2 duel so i can assess whether i should hang on to my n95 8GB. Cheers.

There are not a lot of benefits featurewise to upgrade from N95 8GB.
    Screen is the same.
    Almost the same features.
    Plusses on the N96:
    - 16 GB on board plus the possibility of uSD cards to expand memory.
    - Faster USB (about 5 times faster than N95 8GB)
    - New features in S60 (too many to name)
    - Much improved Music and Video Playback times compared to N95 8GB even with its larger battery
    - Speakers are correctly located to enjoy video in full screen.
    - 3.5 mm connector is on the top and not the side
    - Better audio quality through headphones.
    Negatives:
    - Software is new so it's not yet as robust as the latest update for N95 8GB. But it will get there eventually.
    - 3D graphics performance is lower in N96.
    - I can't think of many negatives other than these two.
Other than these they perform very similarly,

  • Help! N95 8GB Horizontal Lines on LCD Screen getti...

I was getting a few horizontal lines across my screen of my N95 8GB. Switching the slider from portrait to landscape doesn't change the direction of the lines.
The lines have been getting progressively thicker to the point where now it's hard to read anything on the phone.
Do I have a dying screen?
I've take the slider apart, detached and reattached the screen and ribbon cable connector, and it doesn't make any difference.
Should I buy a replacement screen or is there something else that could be wrong? The rest of the phone functions perfectly fine.

    Hi calciumicon,
It would probably be best to have your device checked by a Nokia Care point. From what you describe it might be the screen needs to be replace. The N95 is a model which has been out of production for a while though so check to verify it can still be repaired.

  • N95 8gb Auto Rotate Screen

    Hello,
I just downloaded the newest firmware for the n95 8gb.
I had the heard that the newest firmware allows for auto rotate screen from portrait to landscape and vice versa.
Is this true and if so how do I enable this feature?
    Thank you....

    Yes, sure !!
    Check I've said having an RM-421 phone. That's the N95-4 or N95 NAM. The N95-2 is RM-320.
Should I assume that americans (not only north-americans) don't need to rotate their screens ??? :-)

  • Best place to get a genuine N95 8GB screen

I cracked the screen on my Nokia N95 8GB at Reading Festival this year. The phone works, but screen doesn't. Where is the best place to get a new/used original/geniune Nokia screen to fit? I'm happy to do it myself.
There are a few on ebay, but i'm never sure whether the non-geniune Nokia screens are good or not.

Who knows? Some may be genuine, but the people selling them have no right to do so.
Also, if you do any damage whilst replacing this yourself, you'll invalidate your warranty for other issues that might be covered by it, so spending a little to have it profesionally fixed may benefit you in the long term. Even the oldest N95 8GBs in Europe are still covered by warranty until at least October 2009.

  • NOKIA N95 8GB SCREEN ROTATE FEATURE

hello i just got my nokia n95 8gb, and in the manual on pg 95 it says the phone has a auto screen rotate feature under setting>General>personalisation>display>screen rotate
but there is no such setting in my phone??
I have V15 firmware. please help, thanks

No, when v20 is released into NSU it will be there. Just keep checking for it here. I'm sure when V20 comes out it will be big news.
Also I recommend you check what new "features" this v20 may have as you may want to stay in v15 if you don't want some of the "new features".

  • Nokia N95 8gb problems - freezing, fuzzy screen et...

Ok so been using the Nokia N95 8gb phone for about a week now and noticed that there is a tendency for the phone to freeze for up to 10 seconds like when opening other things such as Inbox etc. The problems mainly occur when the phone is slid shut, then when resliding the phone open the phone freezes or sometimes screen stays black until battery is taken out!
When the phone is slid shut sometimes the screen goes fuzzy in places aswell like a TV with no reception. The text and theme on the phone sometimes goes a dodgy colour aswell like a negative photo and sometimes even goes back to front and the wrong way round?? Anyone else had similar problems or knows what this is??

Its unlikely to have the same issue after doing a software upgrade, it could be some application on your memory card or the simcard .
You may try the steps below
    - A soft reset by keying in *#7780# when on standby - This will not delete any data but will restore all the settings back to default.
If that does not help then you may wanna try doing a hard reset by keying in *#7370# when on standby - This will reformat the phone. DO NOT FORGET TO DO A BACK UP AS THIS WILL ERASE YOUR ENTIRE PHONE MEMORY.
The security code by default is 12345
Also would be best to reformat your memory card and sim cards well as there might be some applications in there which is causing your phone to lag.
Mark me a KUDOS if this has helped...

  • Nokia N95 8gb screen acting up

Hi, I have a Nokia N95 8gb North America version. Recently, my phone started acting up. The phone would sometimes freeze when I'm using an app, but I could often just press the menu button and just go back. Also, the screen would sometimes become oddly coloured. However, now the screen is very, very weird. The screen is flipped and reversed, and some parts are cut off. I didn't drop it or anything when all of a sudden this started to happen. Unfortunately, my phone's not under warranty anymore. What can I do? Also, where can I find a care point in Vancouver, British Columbia, or are there any at all? Thanks

Nokia Care details are in this link..
    http://www.techvibes.com/company-directory/nokia-canada
You may try upgrading / re-installing the firmware..
    1. Download and install the latest version of OVI Suite from
    http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/nokia-ovi-suite
    2. Connect the phone to PC using the USB Cable (Suite Mode)
    3. Open the OVI Suite
    4. First take a Back-up of the phone (Tools-->Back-up).. as you may tend to lose data during the process..
    5. Tools -->Software updates .. and follow instructions
Note : During the updates the phone may switch OFF.. do not worry.. It will switch ON on its own.Ignore any warnings you see in Windows Task bar.. Even when you see the update is complete.. do not disconnect the phone till it switches ON again...
Hopefully the problem should get sorted by now.. Restore your data (Tools-->Restore)

  • Screen won't work, sometimes - N95 8GB

    Hi,
Had a few problems as of lately with my N95 8GB, not really impressed with it to be honest.
Amongst other things, the worst problem would have to be the slider mechanism.
    - I'm not sure how to explain it properly as it's complicated, so please bare with me -
Every time I move the slider from Landscape(music player) to Portrait(key-pad and all) the screen goes black until the bottom of the slider reaches above the 7, 8, 9 keys. Essentially, it doesn't work from starting to move it to the Portrait mode from the Neutral position, to just before revealing the whole 7, 8, 9 keys.
Music and the like play in the background through all this happening, as the phone just goes into the "locked mode" and the screen turns off, so the phone is still on.
Ofcourse there are exceptions, like when I move the slider up and down fast, and seem to trick the phone, but I'm guessing that's mostly irrelevant.
tl;dr The screen doesn't work for the middle third of the entire slider movement.
Not too mention the secondary camera not working - period, or my calls only working on loud-speaker.
Yep, this is the least of my worries.
Anyway, thanks for any help in advance, hope you can help.
And one final note, I'm stuck on firmware v 11.x something, and I run my computer on Vista. Since NSU doesn't support Vista, is their anyway to update it to v 20.x without going to a Care Center or whatever they are called?

    Hi All,
Probably the Secondary camera of my N95 8 GB purchased just a week ago is not working
I discovered it when i used the secondary camera yesterday for the first time
When i use the sec. camera, only a bright yellow screen appears. The pictures taken are just a combination of red & yellow dots. Can anyone help ??

  • Make the N95 8GB screen look like a WM phone. Poss...

    Hi all!
Just curious (and not trying to start a WM vs. Symbian flame-war) whether it is possible to make the screen of the N95 8GB look like, for example, the HTC Touch Cruise: http://www.letsgomobile.org/images/news/htc/htc-touch-cruise.jpg
Is it possible to make changes like this to the layout of the N95 8GB screen?

I doubt that you will be able to make it look like a WM phone.
Well, there is a HTC Touch-like design on http://gdesk.wetpaint.com/page/GDesk+designs
I'll give it a try. It looks quite promising. Thanks!

It looks like the screen or it's connector has failed.
A nokia care point should be able to easily fix it for you without losing any data.
