N95 8GB SMS contacts display
Hey all
(be nice, im new )
Just got my n95 8GB today and it's awesome, but i'm having trouble with contacts in the inbox -
what happens currently is when i get a message in it displays last name, first name - ie Smith Bob, instead of Bob Smith
Does anyone know how to change this so that it doesn't happen?
I've tried changing the settings in the contacts list but it doesn't seem to help.
There is no setting for it unfortunatley...
The best way to cure this if it really is an issue ( although time consuming) would be to swap the names around in first name last name i.e.
First Name: Bob
Last Name: Smith
Shows as Smith Bob in SMS
Make it
First Name: Smith
Last Name: Bob
Shows as bob Smith in a message...

Anyone know is it possible to light the time up during the night by pressing one of the buttons on the N95 8gb. Tried most but it just lights up the main screen. I know on the Sony Ericsson models you can press volume to light up the time. Thanks in advance

Set "Always on top" to "Yes". Then pressing any key on the phone will light up the main screen, showing the cClock large clock.
Press the red hangup button to show the normal phone display. -
When I receive a new SMS all I get is "one new message received". I'm sure that with other Nokia's that I've had it tells you who the SMS is from, but not with my N95. I'm on the Three network, is this something to do with the network or settings? Please advise.

Some other nokia models do tell you who the message is from on the main screen but not the N95.
You can add that feature by using one of the programs below. Try the demos and see which you prefer.

On previous Nokias I have been able to change the way a contact is displayed (ie. just as a name or name & number).
I can't seem to find a way of changing this on my N95 8GB.
Anyone help please??
Cheers.hey, i just looking for the same thing as also on my previews nokia i was able to copy and paste text from contacs names ,links,msgs,anything i would want.Or when you trying to sent a msg there was an option for recent receiptien contacs and you dident need to look again for the contacts names ,but on N95 8GB nothing from all this is available ,ok is a very good device and very usefull but some futures i think it would be neccesary to be preinstall it on such good device. if anyones knows any additional applications or any updates to have again this extras on N95 8GB it would be very helpfull.thanks

Unable to open and read the full sms on n95 8gb
Hi,
after i upgraded the latest firmware of n95 8gb i am facing wiered problems.
now whenever i recieve a sms i am able to see the sms in my inbox but when i try to open it to read the full message it doesnt do anything.
tried all options but no luck.
Kindly help me..
Rakeshhi, now problem is resolved.
1. i had just removed all my alarms.
2. set the time zone again
3. took out the sim card and put it again
4. and also ensured that i have proper settings for messages i.e message centre no. n all.
not sure what made it to work but finally its working.
Is your time zone and time set properly after you upgraded the firmware ? -
SMS not displaying contacts name
When I receive SMS phone displays only phone number as messages sender, even though the same phone number is memorized in contacts. I've tried changing settings and message center number, but the problem persists.
Hmm. You didn't mention if phone calls are okay. If you don't receive calls that often, maybe you may not notice.
Have you checked for double/duplicate entries? Since you mentioned that pc suite froze during the synchronisation process, it could have duplicated some of your contacts.
If not, then you might want to try backing up your contacts again using PC Suite's synchronise option or use the Content Copier (Backup) feature before deleting all your contacts. Next, create one contact and have that contact send an SMS to your phone (or you can create a contact of your OWN phone number and send yourself an SMS) to see if the name shows up.
If the name shows up, try restoring all your contacts to see if it still happens. If yes, then you probably have duplicate entries somewhere.
Otherwise, you may want to consider a software upgrade using Nokia Software Updater.
Do remember to backup your phone contents before doing this.
Alternatively, since you didn't mention your phone model, you might try a hard reset with *#7370# which will wipe out all your phone data and reset your phone back to the factory state, but this only works for specific Symbian OS phones and if you have a S40 phone, this won't be an option.

Just got my new N95 8GB -2 & when i add a new contact i can find it by scrolling all the way down but not by one letter. eg I have entered a contact just as M but when i go contacts> M , i get a list of everything with M starting at A!! eg Alan M,Bob m & so on -How do i set up to get it (1st letter) as 1st choice as with all my other phones? Have tried First name or surname but makes no difference......... Can anyone help?

But the way the search function seems to work is that when you type M it brings up all the contacts that contain M in it, in alphabetical order.
But if you have many many names then as you type it starts filtering them.
This is how Video Center and Music Player works as well. So it's a bit of backwards logic you think but really I think there's a reason.
Say you have many contacts saved. Now you know that this person first or last name starts with ME, but you don't know if it's the last or first name or that ME may be part of the name but not at the beginning then as you type ME it will bring all the contacts that have ME either at the beginning the middle or wherever.
So there's some logic to it but maybe not a lot...

Copy contacts between PC and Nokia N95 8GB without...
Hello...
I have Nokia N95 8GB.
I have 300 contacts stored on my PC from previous phone which was Nokia N90. What I want to do is to copy my contacts from my PC to my Nokia. But without PC Suite, without any synchro, just to copy them like in windows explorer, copy folder and paste folder.
Is this possible? I mean, I can do this, but don't know where to place them inside Nokia folder tree - I want them to be visible inside address book...

Go to Solution.I am not sure this will resolve your problem but you could try with this.
1. Remove Previous phone plugins from Library/phone plugins (If any files are there)
2. Delete files from User/Library/caches/
3. Remove chaches from System/library/chaches
4. Download and install iSync plugin from Nokia website
Make sure you have installed all available updates from Apple using Software Update and your phone firmware is updated.
Are you getting any specific error messages?

N95 8GB inbox mess! sort/order sms by date!!
Why do ew sms messages I recieve on my N95 8GB suddenly appear in a randon spot (i.e. not at the bginning or end of the inbox list) even though I tried more than once to do "Sort by: Date"!!?
I have an N95 and installed firmware 31.0.17 in February 2009. It is still the latest version in August. The phone was OK for about 3 months, until I returned from a holiday overseas. Since then it has occasionally got confused about the date, even though I have network time updates always turned off. The phone usually decides it is several days in the future and so my calenday goes crazy. I change the date manually, then it works fine until a few days later, when it suddenly loses several days again. When I correct the date this second time, the phone usually runs OK for a month or more.
I cannot sort my messaging inbox or sent folder properly - by date, name or subject. They appear to be ordered randomly. I wondered whether this date scrambling problem is corrupting the file system timestamps of some of my sms entries....
... however, when I connect the client to my IMAP mail server (which provides sensible dates), the phone fails to present my email folder contents in the right order too!
Why hasn't someone from Nokia support responded to this thread? This problem has existed for about a year and persisted through more than one firmware version? -
Nokia N95 8GB backed up - how to I get the contact...
My Nokia N95 8GB was backed up a couple of weeks ago. Just as well as I wrote it off this weekend by putting it in the washing machine. I have now bought another Nokia 5228 Orange phone. This one has Nokia PC Suite. The N95 8GB has Nokia N series PC suite. How can I retrieve the content from the old phone with its N series software, and put the contents into my new Nokia 5228?
Chris BrownIf you have been using the latest version of PCsuite, it may be compatible with the 5228 as well. If it is then it is as simple as restoring th backup to your new phone. Obviously there are things like phone specific settings which cannot be restored. You should at least be able to get the contacts and messages.

Copy & Edit Contacts from N95 8GB to PC WITHOUT Sm...
Is it possible to Copy & Edit Contacts from my N95 8GB to my PC WITHOUT Smart Suite as I want them in CSV format so I can fiddle with them on a spreadsheet.
I hate SmartSuite - I find it too much of a bind - in CSV format on one page in Excell would be great!!

Nokia PC Suite's Communication Centre can export your phone contacts to a CSV file. If you don't want to do this then you can copy all of the contacts (again in communication centre) and paste them into a place of your choice on the PC and look for another application to get the data into a CSV file. -
Automatic sms forwarding from N95 8gb
Hi, i have a Nokia N95 8GB on the Vodafone network, however the screen has died and i cannot see anything on it. The rest of the phone still works as normal as i can connect it via the T.V out cable and see whats going on that way, however this is not possible to do when i am out and about. I have another mobile to use in the iterm, until my 5800 finally arrives or they get it in stock, and i have set all calls to divert to the other handset. I need to know if you can adjust any settings via the phone to set up sms forwarding or if it is possible via messgae centre number adjustments via the network provider.
I hope someone out there has maybe managed this, or knows of a way to do it, im not that much of a phone buff.

How do you display album art on the N95 8Gb?
Does anyone know how to make album art display when an album is playing on an N95 8Gb? It appears on some albums but not on others. I dragged my music folders from my itunes folder and in each album I have a small GIF or JPG file as the album art, but where do these go when the music files are dragged across - I can't find them anywhere on the phone, yet some of them display whereas others don't.
