N95 8gb v20.0.016 firmware

hi excuse my ignorance but what does the 20.0.016 upgrade give you cant find any noticeable changes apart from messing up ngage, also how does auto rotate work, i bit new to all this so advice greatly appriciated.

V20 was mostly a bug fix release.
The only notable new feature was ASR (automatic screen rotation). This can be enabled in the display settings.
ASR works on most screens and menus (not the home screen) and basically all it does is rotate the screen when you turn it anti-clockwise. It doesn't rotate in any other direction.
It's main advantages is for viewing photo's easily.

N95 8GB v20.0.016 - mass memory failure #3

For the third time my N95 8GB has managed to corrupt its mass memory ("mass memory corrupted") - only this time, I am unable to reformat it at all!
The problem behaviour is as follows:
Used the phone last night to take several pictures, accessing the Gallery at one stage to find and delete one picture. This afternoon I look for the photos to review, and the '200902' folder (images for February) on the mass memory has no subfolder and is empty. However, I DO have a video saved on the phone from the 7th of February!
This afternoon I am able to take as many pictures as I like and they are saved correctly in the gallery and the 200902 folder. I had used about 5.2GB of the mass memory at this point. (It may be worth noting that I would occasionally get the message 'Gallery: Memory full' whilst browsing the gallery, but never at any other time).
At this stage, the mass memory is still fully populated, so I thought it would be best to cut my losses and take a full phone backup. The backup process fails, with an error along the lines of having lost connection with the phone.
I check file manager to see what's going on, and the following message appears on the memory card page: "(no data)".
All previous times the handset corrupted its memory, the trigger seemed to be a reboot of the handset. (Contents were lost upon returning to File Manager after a reboot). Having not rebooted the phone at all in the last 24 hours, I was surprised that the memory card contents had apparently disappeared without any application being launched and apparently no new data writing attempts being made. Perhaps the read operation for the backup caused the failure? But this still does not explain how all my February photos were deleted.
Without any obvious way of getting to my files, I rebooted the phone, returned to file manager and was greeted by the familiar: "(mass memory corrupted)".
As mentioned previously, when this happened before I was able to format the memory via Menu -> Tools -> Utilities -> Memory -> Format. This time, I receive the message: "Mass memory is in use by other application. Continue anyway?". I select 'Yes' - but the handset simply returns to the memory screen and "(mass memory corrupted)". This still happens even after a reboot.
I have performed 'Factory settings' reset via the phone menus, a 'hard reset' via code *#7370#, a format by holding *, 3 and the call answer button whilst powering on the phone - none of these prevent the 'Mass memory is in use' error from occurring. I have also attempted to format drive E (mass memory) but this just returns an error code. When I attempt to upgrade the firmware, the process fails every time after ~3 minutes saying that the connection with the phone has been lost (the warnings about upgrading do state that the mass memory should NOT be encrypted, so I presume that it being inaccessible is equivalent to this).
I cannot see any way to format the 8gb memory so that I can make it usable once more! The phone was not dropped or damaged in any way in the last 24 hours, yet it seems that something must have physically changed inside it?
The only parallel I can draw between this incident and the previous one is that both times, the memory was around 2/3rds full (around 5.5GB). I am wondering if perhaps the FAT table outgrows itself and dies?
My 1 year warranty expired 3 weeks ago - I am hopeful my network operator will be able to provide a replacement and that this phone just has a 'bad' memory chip - it really is a superb phone barring this infuriating corruption problem mine seems to have!
If anyone could shed any light on a solution it would be much appreciated

In the end my operator agreed to replace the handset for me after a lot of to-ing and fro-ing. In my opinion the problem was caused by a faulty memory chip.

p.s. - the old handset was sent to the operator for repair and they were unable to repair it, only offer a refurbished replacement. With the greatest of respect, it's good to know my case is not unique!

N95 8gb V20.0.0.16 Multimedia Key not working

Hi, I think I found a bug!
make sure the phone is in portrait mode:
1. press the multimedia key
2. press it again to exit
3. Turn the phone to bring it to landscape mode (make sure auto rotate is enabled)
4. press the multimedia key
For me the menu does not start. When I switch it back to portrait, the menu still doesn't launch, so I have to restart my phone to get it working again.
Can anyone verify this?

Just now i read that post. But that guy(wintomato) post that on 15th of march. So it was not about v20. Because v20 just released few days before. When I used v15 nothing happened like that. Maybe it's depened on particular theme or devices. Like my camera has 2 green spot after v11. But very few pepole has these prob. Good luck

N95 8GB on other networks ?

Hi, first post, hello all.
I was wondering when it will be available to T Mobile specifically, I had the N95-1 and the battery was terrible so I sent it back.
I waited for the k850i however when I tried the N95 I knew it was the one I wanted. So now I am nearly three months over my contract and really really want !

The N95 8GB and the N95 Classic are very similar as far as the WIFI goes.
I use mine all the time, mainly to download podcasts, and i find it very stable.

N95 8GB WPA-TKIP-PAP

Hi, I have problems connecting to my University wireless. I have the last firmware of N95 8GB (v20) and I've noticed it has the WPA opcion.
I think the TKIP option is disabling "WPA2 only". Is it right?
And I couln't find the PAP option. Where is that option? I need that to connect to the wireless.

The phones were not designed to inter grate into wireless networks on a corporate level. I don't even think PDA's support this type of authentication, and the reason being, they're not a PC, don't run the same applications as a PC there for no need for this authentication.
The university are probably using this with a combination of Windows Domain Authentication, of which a Nokia phone is unable to achieve because it does not support the TCP/IP over Netbios and SMB that Windows/Linux/Unix/Mac PC's support.
There also could be a licensing issue with the feature as it may be too expensive for Nokia to implement.

N95 8GB won't connect to EAP-TLS secured WLAN

Hi all,
Has anyone succeeded in connecting to EAP-TLS secured wifi network? I have an N95 8GB with the latest firmware (updated yesterday) that cannot connect to my office wlan.
I’ve been reading this forum (and others google found) and here’s what I’ve done:
* defined an access point with 802.1x security mode and EAP-TLS
* exported the certificate from my IE, imported it into the phone and selected it in the Personal Certificate filed
* selected the accompanying rootCA certificate as Authority Certificate (tried leaving it blank as well)
* tried different Ciphers just in case
Every connection attempt results in "EAP-TLS authentication failed" and I’m never asked for password.
I’ve been talking to our admin (I’m afraid he’ll start to hate me before too long ) and found out that after the firmware upgrade and a couple of hours of trying this-or-that I’ve managed to have proper username sent to the server. But the message remains.
Here’s a part of the event log forwarded to me by the admin (fully qualified username is stripped by him but it seems to be correct):

P.S. I believe we are using Radius server and a google search for the stated Reason gives a number of Radius-related results, but they describe cases when PC's cannot connect. I can connect to the wlan with my laptop with no prob (but it asks for credentials each time - don't know if it matters).

New firmware release 20.0.016 for N95 8GB is out and installed. The fixes are, an inhansment in the browser and there is a new feature add which is a screen rotate. Congratulation guys.

V11 to v20 whats new i can see inside my n95 8gb

recently i upgrade my n95 8gb to get a2dp profile but after upgrading version 11 to 20 still its not working and i dont see any thing new in side. Please help. any way its shows version 20.0.016 by device mgr.

Lack of firmware updates for the N95 8GB

Does anyone know what the latest firmware is for the N95 8GB? I've unlocked my phone from Vodafone but the updater still says the latest version is 20.0.016 but there are numerous posts talking about version 30?

As stated in his first post he has unlocked his phone. Also there is no point even phoning Vodafone. I spent around 2 months speaking to them trying to get an update for my N96 which never came. I was then also told they were under no obligation to do it either. Only option for me was to get the vodafone branding removed, so glad I did as he phone is much quicker now.

Nokia N95 8gb latest firmware update 21/02/13

Hi, I have had a problem whilst updating my N95 8gb and now it appears, I think, that the firmware version I have is an older one than I had previously, but there isn't anything newer showing as availaable. I have 35,0.001. I am sure that the last time I had a problem, after it was "flashed", the firmware I had installed by the shop was this and then when I got home and went to restore my files, there was a new update available on line. The rreason I say this is that the icons and colours etc are like the version installed by the shop, about 1 year ago and when I updated the software everything was different. If what I am saying is correct, does anyone know if this newer firmware update has now been withdrawn or can anyone throw any light on the subject as I am a little confused! Thanks

If your N95 8GB is RM-320 the last available firmware for all product codes is v35.0.001. Using restore via Nokia Suite can only reset your individual personalisation settings.

YIPPPEEEE! FINALLY.. i was able tio upgrade my n95 8gb to 31.0.015.. i dunno y thr ws soo much of fuss earlier.. all i did was js follow the simple process..
1.backed up my files..
2.fully charged my battery js b4 the upgrade..
3.turned off my kaspersky(Antivirus)
4.turned off my firewall
5.general profile..
n zoooooooom! it upgraded!! without any hiccups.. i js lost all my msgs.. hadnt backd up properly.. bt m content!
u cn try the same thng.. 99% it should wrk out.. i realised that i had decreased the level of antivirus protection and my firewall was still on, earlier.. mayb dats y it was causin so many problems.. bt this time around i js "paused complete protection" from antivirus.. stopped my firewall and it upgraded... eassssssyyyyy!
