• Calendar missing from N95 Active Standby

I'm really hoping someone can shed some light on this ... I had my active standby activated on my N95, all fine. Then I turned it off recently. I went to switch it back on, and the calendar's missing! It gives me no options to be able to switch it back on! I've tried a factory reset (under Tools/Settings/General) but that hasn't helped. Tried to see if there was a Software or Firmware upgrade, but apparently my phone is all up to date. Any ideas? Anyone? (I know this seems like a weird request, as there are HEAPS of posts asking how to get rid of the calendar on active standby, but the fact I didn't change anything & it's just done it is concerning.)

Back up all your data to your PC using PC Suite's content copier, and then shut down your phone. Hold down 3 buttons: GREEN, 3 & * while switching on your phone. Make sure don't release your fingers till the phone ask for pin. You'll lose everything that's on your phone memory, and if you restore that from a back up, you'll be back to where you started, but this seems to have worked. You'll also lose things that your network operator may have installed. But oh well. Still no idea why it happened in the first place though!

• N95 Active Standby basic, or S60 version?...

Hi guys
I was just wondering which N95 users have the more up to date Active Standby mode (the S60 version with the icons on the left, and submenus that popout) and who has the older version?
My brother and I both have N95s, both from Phones4U and both on Orange contract - yet his has the new menu, and mine has the old one. He also has the option to switch between the 2 in his settings.
Anyone know if there is a way to get that functionality on my phone?
Many thanks
C.

What do you mean???
The Orange Standby screen is only on Orange branded handsets. No way to get it on an unbranded generic phone.
No dude, I just meant it is only to O2.
Not for the generic ones, no need for it, too.
Just to get clarified.

Hi all,
I called the Nokia Careline(AU) and checked with them coz i was getting annoyed with this as well.
Apparently, its a feature on the phone. They said, and i quote,
" the call will remain connected unless you press the disconnect button. There are no issue's with your phone."
hmm... i don't know if i like this feature tho..

• Hardawer requirements for active standy pair

Could any one give some advices what requirements are needed to do the active standby pair replication?
I've configed an environment, but the a-s mode only work when active and standby ds are located in the same machines, if they are located in different machines, the standby machine's ds is always in "idle" state:(.
BTW,do we have any detail guide on how to config the active-standby and hardware environments required?
thanks!
Michael

Generally speaking, for an active/standby pair both machines should be pretty much identical since either will need to be able to cope with the expected application load. However, this is not a mandatory requirement.
The mandatory requirements for all* machines involved in a single replication scheme are that they:
1. Have the same type of CPU
2. Are running the same O/S and O/S version
3. Have the same version of TimesTen (cross version replication is supported while doing a rolling upgrade but is not supported for routione operational running)
Although replication may _work in configurations that do not comply with the above, it is not supported on such configurations.
You say you are getting a SEGV; what is SEGVing? If your configuration conforms to the above requirements and some TimesTen component is SEGVing then you should open an SR so that we can investigate this.

• N95 Active standby applications

I set the Active standby applications and they appeared in a row in the screen
BUT
there are 3 rows of extra application that I didn't set before and I don't need them frequently. How can I make them disappear?
the applications are:
Search: Internet and My content
No calendar entries today
WLAN scanning off

Sorry. This is not possible. You can remove the Search option by hacking, but this is not recommended.

Hi shippo63
If you select Settings > General > Personalise > Standby mode - you can turn active standby off which removes all the icons from the screen.
You can also change the applications that are displayed on the screen.

• N95 Wifi, home network and hidden access points

Hello-
Just picked up a N95 and having some problems. First, my home network doesn't broadcast a SSID. I stumbled across the home network option and was able to configure it. However, it's never an option when I need an internet connection; e.g., it never shows up in the wlan list.
So, how do I congigure a hidden access point so I can use it? The user guide says you should be able to do it manually, but doesn't go into any details.
Secondly, exactly what is the home network setting for and why is it separate from the other wlan settings?
Thanks,
Jay

Jay,
I too have a hidden network (SSID not broadcast), the N95 seems to have a problem with this. It may or may not show up on the active standby screen (on my Voda N95, it shows up when I take my sim out!).
To configure your accesss point :-
Tools / Settings / Connection / Access Points
then Options / New access point
Connection name
(enter a name, whatever you want to call it)
Data bearer
=wireless LAN
WLAN network name
(enter your SSID here)
Network Status
(public or hidden)
WLAN network mode
(Infrastructure or ad-hoc. If you're using a router, infracstructure should be the one you want)
WLAN security mode
(Open, WEP, 802.1x or WPA2. Check your router)
WLAN security settings
WPA/WPA2
EAP or Pre-shared key (consult your router)
EAP plug-in settings or Pre-shared key
(which one you get depends on what you set above)
WPA2 only mode
(leave alone)
Having done all this it still won't show on the active-standy screen (at least it doesn't on mine) in the WLAN section BUT if you know try and surf the web it should ask which access point you want to use - assuming you've got it set to 'always ask'. What this seems to do is only list the connections that it can find (i.e if you've got a 'Starbucks' and a 'home' connection defined, it'll only show 'home' at home and 'Starbucks' when you're getting your latte. The standby screen may show, how to decribe it, a four leaf clover near to the battery level indicator, this is the indication that it's either found or connected to your wireless lan.
I think the 'Home netw.' option is for use with the Home Media Server application supplied on the CD. I haven't tried it so can't confirm for sure.
Hope this helps,
Simon

• N95-1 v21 Firmware review

I was just wondering what Nokia should include in the next firmware-release after v21 for the nokia n95-1. After I upgraded from v20 to v21 I had many expectations concerning the changelog (http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58226): Flashlite3, faster menu, rotation improvements...
however, here's a BIG, FAT buglist:
- Flashlite works fairly good with youtube although quality is worse than with mobitubia or emtube BUT other flashsites as myvideo.de or google video are terribly slow (50% speed, sound not properly synched) AND when resizing the page (to 75 or 50%) only the left quarter of a video is displayed
- opening menu folders hasn't become faster; only if folders have already been opened and therefore loaded into the RAM the menu seems faster
- rotation improvements are only noticeable when rotating the screen while displaying pictures or when having zoomed in. in all other situations screen rotation has become even slower (e.g. in the menu, or when having a full active standy with calendar and to do entries) AND when rotating the screen counterclockwise (e.g. with rotateme) there are loads of localization errors (e.g. OPTIONS and BACK are interchanged) and the camera viewfinder mirrors everything; in general, rotation is not very responsive
- and that's another annoying bug: the device has become less responsive (is this the revenge of the keypress bug??:tongue
- i'm getting the feeling that the e3 demo has a reduced framerate compared to v20
- "GPS position acquisition is *much* faster than in V20." - this is simply not true, it still takes around 2 or 3 minutes without A-GPS to lock my position
- if light sensor is set to minimum, the backlight sometimes is switched off even if I'm in a quite dark ambience (-> I can't see anything for approx. 10 seconds)
- sometimes WLAN-scanning just goes off involuntarily and, even if I switched it off, the phone displays all available networks
- standby-time improvements? i didn't realize any. I checked v20 with Nokias energy profiler (switched off everything possible, offline mode, no memory card inserted -> 0.06W) and then v21 (same process, again 0.06W)
- WLAN wizard has remained the same; if I want to choose e.g. my home wlan "ConnectionPoint" (secure) it is not always displayed in the access point list. then I choose "search for wlan" to find it; everything's alright, "ConnectionPoint" is found but when I choose it, I have to enter the WEP key - extremely annoying!!!
- a couple of bugs can be found in the music player. the responsibility of the media keys is considerably slow, it takes half a second to e.g. pause - I want it to pause immediately! And, if you push the keys several times in a row it stops the music only after your last push.
- the volume keys are not switched when changing to landscape mode; it means that when playing back a video you have to press the LEFT volume key while the volume bars rise in the RIGHT direction
- the browser is not fully developed; when rendering a website, the browser gives you a "first glance" at some parts of the page, but then there's a couple of seconds a white screen after which the browser renders the rest of the page. I don't get it, does the browser get the desktop resolution at first and then tries to allocate every object to the phones' resolution? Tell me.
- layer ads cannot be closed as they are wandering together with the mouse
- and lastly, when trying to watch flash vids not on youtube in landscape mode, the browser often crashes.
I don't think these bugs are related to my device only as there would be no logical reason for this (I mean NSU distributes the same firmware to everyone with n95-1 and I definitely don't have hardware-related issues)
Okay, enough about bugs. I would like to give my thoughts about what should be included in the next firmware-release:
- ASR (as seen on n95 8gb v20)
- everything should be supported by the 3d accelerator, esp. Flashlite 3 (it uses the CPU only), then video playback would work way better
- page file (no more memory leaks); I'd rather have a temporary slow reaction of the phone while it does memory-eating procedures like videoediting than "out-of-memory" popups
- there should be an expert's view option in the settings app to have access to more specific settings
- GPS data should be queried at least each half a second from the chip to have a smoother position tracking. it would also be more accurate, since there wouldn't be such large jumps from one position to another when driving really fast
- one should be able to switch WLAN completely off, not just the scanning; correct me if I'm wrong, but how can it be possible that even if WLAN is supposedly switched off, the scanning starts so incredibly fast? shouldn't there be a warmup phase of the antenna??
I hope you guys read it and provide me with answers and opinions!!!

I have recently installed v 21.0.016. A big concern is that I used to use the "GPS Data" application often, but this has now been removed!?
1) Any idea where I can find the GPS Data app to re-install?
2) If not available, which 3rd party apps could show me speed, elevation, coordinates etc?
As a comment the Maps application is IMHO not as feature rich. I used to be able to plan a route and then start tracking my position on the highlighted route as I progress - this is no longer possible
Thanks in advance for any insights

• Need advice switch Active/Active or Active/Standby?

Dear all,
I would like all of you advice on daigram as in the attach file.
I have 2 ASA 5520 and Core-switch 3560 (2unit), and i want to configure Active/Standy on ASA 5520
but on Core-switch 3560 i'm not sure the technology that i should apply on this.
Should i use Active/Standby or Active/Active? if i use Active/Active which protocal shoudl i use ?
How it process when it fail?
Best Regards,
Rechard

Dear Amit,
Could i ask you some question about connection from both ASA and both Core-switch as below that:
1- could i combine interface on ASA to Core-swith ?
Ex:
interface Redundant1
member-interface GigabitEthernet0/2
member-interface GigabitEthernet0/3
nameif inside
security-level 100
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 standby 192.168.1.2
================
I mean that G0/2 connect to Core-switch01 and G0/3 connect to Core-switch02.
Does command ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 standby 192.168.1.2 support interface redundant1 ?
or should we use separat interface ( don't use interface redundate 1) for failover?
which option that standart technology?
Best Regards,

• Failover fails (turns off) after License Upgrade for 5520s.

Hi-
I recently did a license upgrade on an active/standy pair of 5520's (8.04) for a 2 to 50 SSL VPN upgrade. According to Cisco Document #70390 it should have been a no brainer...but it wasn't. According to the doc upgrading the activation key of the primary then doing a wr mem along with a physical shutdown causes the secondary to become active. But in my experience as soon as the new activation key was entered failover broke. This caused the secondary to remain inactive and I had to reboot both to get the network back up (of course only one could be active and so I took the secondary offline so I could upgrade it via serial). So I brought the secondary up (after activation key upgrade) and failover did not kickin. I did a sh failover on both machines and both said failover was off. I would do the failover command on the primary and secondary...nothing. It wasn't until I did a no failover active on the secondary that failover finally started to work properly.
Anyone else have this experience? I have a ticket open with Cisco for the Doc # 70390 for clarification via my experiences. Any input would be appreciated on this. I was working on the assumption that I would have 2 to 3 minute outage as the primary rebooted but turned out to be a longer outage than anticipated and higher ups were pissed...
Thxs. --Rob.

Hi Rob,
Firstly - thanks for posting all your findings with this issue, otherwise I would have followed the Cisco doc too!
I just have a couple of queries though... after failover is disabled and the ASA's remain in their current state, rather than use the console port to perform the license upgrade, would the "standby" ASA still be assigned the 'standby' IP address, even though failover is disabled? For example, the active had the inside ip address 1.1.1.1 and the standby was assigned 1.1.1.2 on its inside interface. Would this configuration state be the same when failvoer was disabled?
The reason for asking, is whether the upgrade could be performed remotely (whether this is a sensible idea is another thing!). So could I connect to the "standby" unit by IP to upgrade the license?
The second query is regarding the reboot of both units (as opposed to shutting down). Following the license upgrade on both units, could you just reboot both units ("standby" then "active"), and when they both come back up, enable failover? I would assume the previous "active" unit would again become active and failover restored??
Thanks,
Tony

• Wish List For Improvements to Series 60

Dear Nokia,
I recently migrated from my Series 40 Nokia 6270 to my first Series 60 Nokia E65, and I'm extremely happy.
However there are a few features which were available on my 6270 but which are unavailable on my E65 (and some other ideas), and I hope you will consider them for the future:
1. Scalable or selectable fonts for SMS (I believe it's available on Series 60 Fp1 software, but not on the E65).
2. Timed Profiles.
3. Birthdates in the Calendar should show the person's new age (e.g. 45), not just the Year Of Birth (e.g 1962).
4. Nokia Start-Up tone cannot be disabled in General Profile.
5. Repeatable alarm settings should be available.
6. Slide function should be User Selectable (e.g. no affect on calls in progress).
7. With slider closed and keypad locked, pushing the End key should illuminate the display, so that "Unlock" option is visible.
8. Date display on Standby Screen would be better with three letters (e.g. THU rather than TH).
9. Camera should automatically change to Landscape mode when handset is turned sideways.
10. Countdown Timer should be available.
11. Week number should be displayed in Calendar.
12. When "New SMS" is displayed in Active Standy screen, clicking on it should take you directly to the Inbox, not cycle through general "Messaging" first.
Once again, thanks for a great phone, and I hope you can make it even better!

Even with one message, when I click on the new message alert at the top of the active standy screen it briefly displays "Messaging" before going to the Inbox. Not the end of the world, but a bit annoying!
Thanks for your feedback!!

• IPS shows Memory usage 80 % is that normal ?

Hi there.
I have a 2 5525x configured as active/standy and bot IPS modules configured with defaults there is no internet connection to them and no traffic passing thru , but IPS show memory usage 80% is that normal ?

Could be, every environment is different when it comes to IPS. It all depends on what signatures you have configured and tuned.

• Are these viable designs for NIC teaming on UCS C-Series?

Is this a viable design on ESXi 5.1 on UCS C240 with 2 Quad port nic adapters?
Option A) VMware NIC Teaming with load balancing of vmnic interfaces in an Active/Active configuration through alternate and redundant hardware paths to the network.
Option B) VMware NIC Teaming with load balancing of vmnic interfaces in an Active/Standy By configuration through alternate and redundant hardware paths to the network.
Option A:
Option B:
Thanks.

No.  It really comes down to what Active/Active means and the type of upstream switches.  For ESXi NIC teaming - Active/Active load balancing provided the opportunity to have all network links be active for different guest devices.  Teaming can be configured in a few different methods.  The default is by virtual port ID where each guest machine gets assigned to an active port and then also a backup port.  Traffic for that host would only be sent on one link at a time.
For example lets assume 2 Ethernet Links and 4 guests on the ESX host.  Link 1 to Switch 1 would be active for Guest 1 and 2 and Link 2 to Switch 2 would be backup for Guest 1 and 2.  However Link 2 to Switch 2 would be active for Guest 3 and 4 and Link 1 to Switch 1 would be backup for guest 1 and 2.
The following provides details on the configuration of NIC teaming with VMWare:
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1004088
There are also possibilities of configuring LACP in some situations, but there are special hardware considerations on the switch side as well as the host side.
Also keep in mind that the vSwitch does not indiscriminately forward broadcast/multicast/unknown unicast out all ports.  It has a strict set of rules that prevents it from looping.  It is not a traditional L2 forwarder so loops are not a consideration in an active/active environment.
