N95 Arrived

N95 arrived by post first thing this morning. I know I said I wouldnt buy a new released Nokia after the N73 problems but the voices told me I had to!
T Mobile flext 35 with web & walk 18 months £37.50 per month Phone cost £49.99. Ordered online yesterday on my doorstep 08.30.
I decided as T mobile wouldn't release the N73 untill the bugs had been sorted, the fact that they were selling the N95 from day 1 they must be happy its ok!
Anyway, so far so good, nice build quality, large clear screen. GPS took a while to find the sats but that can happen with the first positon fix.
Been playing with it for a few hours now and all is well.
Hope that dont put the mockers n it!

I got mine 2 days ago and have yet to get a fix (fairly built-up area) so I'm off out to find some open space to give that a go.
I have a feeling that Googling +N95 +"Waiting for GPS" might be quite a popular search (which is how I found this thread).
Question : for those who have it working, have you been able to determine if the GPS data is being embedded in the EXIF data of a photo?
I was told by Nokia that this would be the case and also told that that would be optional (very important) - though I have yet to see an example.
When I have this working, I'll be adding maps and activating accounts on noklog.com, which will let you blog to *any* blog system (supported my the blogging apis) - rather than to a SixApart blog (Vox/TypePad)- right through the browser.

    V11 firmware seems old for something you only picked up "the other day". While in standby, key in *#0000# to get your phone's firmware version.

  • Open letter to Nokia about the original N95!

    Hi there, hope this message gets to the high-level employees of the company.
    Why on earth would you people in R&D develop a full fledged computer, the flagship of Nokia Nseries phones, that can fit in the palm of your motherloving hand, and only include 64mb of memory.
    I understand that maybe the N95 life cycle might be coming to an end (or has it ended?), and so you corrected the first mistake by releasing the same N95(8gb) but this time, someone in R&D must of had an epiphany and made the right choice to include 128mb of RAM.
    But what about us, the good ol' N95 people? We have a crippled device.
    People might argue that we are the poor early adopters a.k.a the losers. But I refuse to declare so, as it is not the case. The same phone the N95(8gb) was released 2 holy years later, with the exact same specifications and functionality! Except for the built-in 8gb (we have the sandisk micro 8gb), and slightly bigger battery, oh and the screen.
    Just look around these forum, and other forums and see how much memory related problem everybody is having. Searching on google for this phrase: Memory Full close applications try again returns a lot of results related to the n95.
    Now I know a multi-billion company's got to make a living, and handing out free upgrades doesn't hurt their pocket, but they won't do it because, let's face it, it didn't become a multi-billion company relying on charity work, so considering this and the whole rant above, I wish to say this:
    Can Nokia give the option for N95 owners to send over their N95 and get a memory upgrade for a fee (cost of upgrade plus S/H). I repeat yes NOT free, but a fee. I am willing to pay a price to get it upgraded (if at all possible). As I'm not willing to pay for the new 8gb or maybe the n96, since they are pretty much all similar, except for the memory issue.
    Yes, that is all I have to say. Please someone consider it, *if technically possible*. And if ever considered, please put a reasonable price tag on it (not to be touchy, but I'm also not paying the same price of the N95 just to get a memory module upgraded).
    Thanks for listening. And hope we arrive at a solution that is favorable to both the customer and company (which never does happen, but a man can dream no?)
    PS: And just to say, my brother has the N95 8gb, so I played with it profusely, so if anyone wants to say or (pardon the language) **bleep** how the new n95{8gb) is radically superior than the original n95, you fan boys can please do so, but do it on another thread.

    That memory is for storage.
    The memory he is referring to is the SDRAM that you need for running programs and multi-tasking.
    The N95-1 has 64mb of SDRAM which was problematic on earlier firmware versions. This issue was addressed in the v20 firmware by introducing demand paging which freed up more ram and improved performance all round.
    The N95-2(8GB) and the N82 have 128mb of SD RAM which makes these phones perform better than the N95-1.

  • N95 Firmware update (v13, v20... whatever it's sup...

    Seriously don't hold your breath for too long... Nokia are truly awful at this, they treat the customers who buy their most expensive handsets with such apparent contempt it is nothing short of disgusting.
    I bought an N93 which was quickly superceded and completely forgotten about. To this day it is riddled with bugs and problems, as well as lacking so many features which were added to later models of phone when there was no reason other than Nokia not providing an update or releasing the software as individual updates.
    The N95 is not much different unfortunately. It is unstable and full of bugs, including frequent crashes, abysmal memory availability and management as well as annoying things like the the system ignoring key presses every so often. For all those people who don't experience any of this, lucky you! There are far too many people who do however...
    I'm sure some bright spark will come on here and point out in some way how I'm wrong, that Nokia are too busy working on new phones, that we've had a firmware update or two already for the N95 or something else. The simple fact is that Nokia are marketing the N95 as a computer, even to the point of the having the advertising slogan "It's what computers have become" but in fact they are treating it like a throw away mobile phone. Even Microsoft provide better and more frequent updates to their system than this! And that really is saying something!
    What a shame that they have locked down the system so much, there is a tonne of talent out there in the opensource community who could make this potentially amazing platform truly outstanding. Nokia sure as hell don't seem to have the inclination!
    When will you get your firmware...? It has been over 4 months now since they last updated the N95-1. I am beginning to get the feeling that this one has just been chucked on the heap as the N93 was... the parallels between the N93/N93i release and the N95/N95-8GB situation are rather strong. After 10 years as a loyal Nokia customer I won't be making the mistake of choosing them again!!
    The supposed October 28th deadline has come and gone. I have emailed Nokia 5 times and been ignored, for over 3 months now. I have called everywhere I can and get the stock response "we don't know that" or "we only get told that a few hours in advance". Assuming any of that is actually the honest truth, it makes Nokia look pretty poor in their organisation of information and product support.
    The sad fact is that even IF this firmware comes out, the chances of any further updates are extremely slim. Of course you could argue that there is a lack of commercial incentive for this. The N95 platform is so jammed full of technology that it has the potential to last for 4-5 years as a perfectly decent phone and mobile computing platform, with the right system updates of course. The industry makes no bones about the fact that it wants people to upgrade every 12-18 months, it's how they make their money. This is not conspiracy theory, just a sound bit of reasoning as to why we're not going to get a long stream of support for this phone.
    I read with interest that Google are launching an open platform and SDK soon. Much as I am wary of google, being the corporate giant that they are, this at least is the beginnings of a truly open platform which hopefully users will be able to work with and improve in the way that manufacturers like Nokia simply don't want to. That is of course until the phone manufacturers who move to this system lock it down like Apple have done with the iPhone and prevent free enterprise and development.
    I know we live in a capitalist society, but sometimes consumers are pushed just a bit too far. It is NOT acceptable, nor environmentally friendly to push out and make obsolete technology which costs as much as a reasonable spec entry PC once a year on us.
    I doubt Nokia will read this, even if they do it'll just go ignored like all the other complaints from the customers they have let-down like this.

    I'm sorry but "be patient" is just not sufficient here. It has been over 4 months and these are some MAJOR bugs in the phone.
    Let me detail my day so far with my N95, for those of you who are not familiar with these problems or who think that perhaps this is just a disgruntled customer who has an overinflated sense of importance.
    All of this is on an N95 replacement (the first one's earpiece broke) which I have had for under 2 weeks now. It is the latest firmware and there is NOTHING installed on it, it is as it comes...
    * Full charge overnight with the phone off.
    * Switch the phone on.
    * Check my emails (I was sent a small mpeg video (700k) which I download to the phone.
    - WiFi connection is lost 4 times and I'm within 3 metres of the aerial. N95 fails to find my access point for as long as a minute after losing the connection, when everything else in my house can see it.
    * Check FaceBook mobile in web browser.
    * Read BBC news headlines in web browser.
    - clicked on 3 minute news video headlines, realplayer loads up, runs out of memory to play the video. Realplayer closes, taking the web browser with it.
    * Try to play the video I was emailed. N95 doesn't support uber-standard MPEG files, so...
    * Browse the web again, searching for how to play the MPEG.
    - someone suggests renaming the file to .3gp to make RP load it. I'm dubious but it's worth a go. I go to the menu to access the file manager. I rename the file and click on it, still no joy.
    - I close the file manager and go back to my browser, except not - it closed without warning because the memory ran out (presumably)
    * I give up trying to browse the web and lock the phone.
    * I need to make a call. I press the buttons to unlock it and mess up the timing (my fault completely)
    - I keep pressing the buttons in quick succession in my impatience (which is just pointless I know, but I was in a hurry and fumbling with it).
    - Having pressed the buttons about 8 times the phone unlocks but the screen goes dark.
    - I press the camera focus/shutter button lightly to "un-sleep" the phone. It lights up for 2 seconds and goes dark again.
    - I repeat this 3 times and the phone switches itself off!!
    * The phone restarts automatically but once rebooted is slow and laggy, missing keypresses all over the place so I have to switch off then on again... it is normal (as normal as it gets) after this.
    * I go to my PC and write this!!!!
    Absolutely ALL of this is stuff the phone is supposed to do with its hands tied behind its back. I have not used any 3rd party software and never tried to use more than 2 applications at a time - the N95 IS a multitasking phone and so should handle a lot more than this!!!
    This behaviour was present on the previous handset too, on both the firmware versions it had on it during its life. My current handset came with an 8-point service engineer inspection saying it was in full health...
    Be patient? Even if I was prepared to mutely wait for 4+ months patiently whilst such dreadful bugs plague the phone, I am an N95 user who is concurrently paying off a contract on an N93 phone, costing me £200 ($400 US) in monthly rental for a phone which became unusable (due to signal issues on the network when I moved house to a different part of the country). Be patient? It is now about 14 months since I got the N93 and just over 12 months since the firmware was updated on that (I quote from the firmware date on my N93). Nokia dropped that one like a hot stone and completely screwed everyone who had bought it. Be patient? You must be kidding me! When Nokia, despite an all-singing-all-dancing website cannot ever be bothered to make even the most non-committal of announcements about firmware on it's own forums, why on earth should I be patient? I understand as a programmer myself all to well that things can slide and problems can delay things, but at this point I can't even find solid information to say there will be another update for this, let alone when it MIGHT arrive or what it will HOPEFULLY include... and as I said in my original post, I have telephoned and been fobbed off and had 5 emails ignored (not including the ones about the N93 which were also ignored). And yes, I did get the received message report from Nokia's own system saying someone would come back to me.
    I'm sorry to rant at you, I'm sure it's not your fault but be patient? Just not acceptable any more!

    Don't think that's available on N-Series phones - you'd have to check for 3rd party apps

    TomTom still doesn't work with the internal GPS - there are rumours of upcoming fixes from TomTom so you should keep checking there site.
    Other routing software like Route66 does work with the internal GPS.
    If you have an external Bluetooth GPS you might be better off using it anyway as the built-in one is apparently way slow at getting a fix.Message Edited by patc on 01-Nov-200710:44 AM

  • Internet via my N95 on a Mac

    I can still be surprised over the missing cooperation from Nokia, regarding Apple hardware. Considering that the OSX is so much better and faster than Vista and XP. Now that I got that issue of my chest. I’ve been trying to find out how to connect my N95 to my Mac, so that I can get access to the internet. I’m sorry to realize there STILL is no Mac Suite from Nokia available to the Mac users around the world.
    Any ideas out there? I tried a couple of different places on the web, but no luck so far.

    step-by-step guide (sorry, no pics):
    when you need to select hierarchial items they will be described here in this fashion: "to save your file, click File->Save and enter the filename". this is likely clear already, but if not or for future readers, please make note of this syntax before proceeding.
    there are 3 major parts to this guide, each with its own minor parts. the major parts are:
    A. setup of N95
    B. pairing with Mac
    C. connecting to internet
    the steps are outlined in great detail. they look long and tiresome. fortunately, the process is actually very quick and painless. the whole thing should take no more than 10 minutes, much less if you feel comfortable with the menu structures and dont spend much time at each intermediate menu location.
    lets start with part A as described here:

    A. setup of N95
    1. all steps are performed on the device, you dont even need to own a computer yet to do this major part.
    2. open: Menu->Tools->Settings->Connection (menu is the key you press to open the application browser)
    3. select: "Access Points"
    4. here, we want to find the NAME of your PACKET DATA ACCESS POINT. to get this info, find the name of the internet connection that you wish to use on your mac. for Cingular users, this is often MediaNET. for AT&T users mine it is called "AT&T Internet".
    5. select the access point chosen in step 4.
    6. you are now looking at the configuration settings for this connection - the 3rd item is "Access point name"
    7. make note (maybe write it down) of the Access point name (BE PRECISE!)
    8. click back->back; you should now be back to the screen arrived to by step 2
    9. scroll down and select "Packet data"
    10. there are 2 fields: in the second field, called "Access point" enter the access point name you found in steps 6 and 7
    11. this is all you need to do. now, if a computer connected to your phone requests internet access, it will attempt to route data from USB or BLUETOOTH through this PACKET DATA connection.
    Part B. Pairing with Mac as described here:

    you should perform this step even if you have already paired the device, this makes it possible to ensure that the internet connectivity is properly setup.
    1. make sure the device's bluetooth radio is on and is discoverable
    2. to do this, open: Menu_>Tools_>Bluetooth
    3. Bluetoothn, My Phone's Visibilityhown to all
    4. make note of, and possibly change to your liking, the setting called "My Phone's Name".
    5. the rest of the steps are performed on the mac
    6. open: System Preferences->Bluetooth
    7. click the center tab, "Devices"
    8. click the button in lower right, "Set Up New Device"
    9. a new window appears
    10. click "Continue" in this new window
    11. now select "Mobile Phone" and then click "Continue"
    12. you will find your mobile phone listed, as well as any others nearby that are visible.
    13. choose your mobile phone, as identified in step 4 and click "Continue"
    14. The mac will read info from the phone. this takes a minute as the phone is advertising its feature set to the mac
    15. when it is available, click "Continue"
    16. the mac generates a passkey. you will need to enter this on the phone to complete the pairing process.
    17. on the phone, again, you will need to "Accept [the] connection request". this allows the otherwise untrusted mac to connect to the phone. we will tell the phone to trust the mac in a moment
    18. on the mac: if you have installed the isync plugin for your N95 (http://europe.nokia.com/A4299040) you can select the option:
    "Setup iSync..."
    19. on the mac: be sure to select the option: "Access the internet...", and choose the second method listed: "Use a direct..."
    20. click "Continue"
    21. if your GSM carrier requires a username/password, you will need to enter it here. AT&T and Cingular users can use these:

    22. your GPRS CID String is (exactly this): *99#

    24. please check the box labeled "Show modem status in menu bar"
    25. click "Continue"
    26. you're done with the bluetooth part, click "Quit"
    Part C. connecting
    1. in part B, step 24, you turned on the modem status menu bar icon. here we will use it. if it's not there, you can enable it here:
    System Preferences->Network->Show:Bluetooth->Bluetooth Modem->"Show modem status in menu bar"
    2. click the modem status icon (a telephone handset)
    3. choose "Connect"
    4. if your settings are correct, the mac will connect and authenticate, leaving you online and ready to surf the internet
    NOTE:
    the bluetooth connection on the mac is brittle. logout, sleep, or shutdown while connected, and the next attempt is likely to fail. you may need to reboot the phone and/or mac, or pair the phone and mac again if this occurs. just be sure to logout before manually rather than letting the connection terminate for other operating system related reasons and you should be fine.

    I think you might be able to read chinese i gave a uk varient N70 to my friend in Egypt and his friends send him txts and they arrive in arabic,
    my friend in russia has a russian 7630, he forgot to change his handset to English to send me a txt once and instead of arriving in crylic it was translated to the English alphabet but russian words if u know what I mean, didnt bother me either way, i can speak/read Russian (he doesnt know that tho

    I paid for 3 year licence for voice on the nav software, The N95 is not performing to my expectations and I want to return the phone, is it posssible to get a refund on my subscription if so how do I go about it?

    I'm having the same trouble- trying to get a refund for the 3year navigation upgrade.
    I have phoned, emailed and written by recorded mail to various addresses given by Nokia customer services. They originally said no refunds allowed even under distance selling laws. The latest letter from them dated 17th May arrived today, They state I should read the terms and conditions "more carefully as they specify the address you need to write to" So once again I have emailed [email protected] this is the forth email in 10days to this address. I am still waiting for a non automated reply.

    Let tell something from my experience
    Do not download anything
    Just start the maps and wait till your phone establishes a connection with a sattelite , when its done it automatically downloads the map of the area where you are and it happenned with me and i was able to plan the route to the place i want and follow the instructions . It's more than enough .
    Do not use the option navigate otherwise you'll be directed to sites to download maps which are not free .
    if the voice instructions did not work you might need to download voice files for free using MapLoader V1.1 , you can find it here http://europe.nokia.com/A4353385
    By the way if you go to Smart2Go you'll find the same software MapLoaderV1.1 with some lies that maps for more 150 cuntries are available for free actually they are 77 maps only and it's the same MapLoader available in NOKIA site , and downloading maps is free , you can use the maps to plan routes for free also .

  • N95-3 & Syncing with Outlook

    I currently use a WM5-based phone which syncs extremely well with Outlook. Using MS ActiveSync, I can sync all contacts and calendar entries including the notes fields for each.
    A year or so ago, I had used a Nokia 6256i and PC Suite software. While PC Suite worked, it did not allow me to sync contacts in Last Name, First Name format. Rather, it synced all contacts in First Name Last Name format. Also, it did not sync the notes fields for either contacts or calendar entries.
    Syncing with Outlook is the most important function for me in a phone, aside from RF and sound quality.
    How well does the N95 & PC Suite combo work? I'm hoping to find people who actually sync with Outlook and can verify first hand whether or not contacts sync in Last Name, First Name format and if the notes fields sync.
    Would love to buy a N95 but need to confirm sync functionality first. I don't care about push e-mail, syncing via BT is fine.

  • N95 update to 31.0.017

    I have updated my N95 from 21.0.016 to 31.0.017. It went OK, as it says in updater application. But when I tried to restore back up all contacts, messages and settings were lost.
    What can I do to restore at least contacts?

    It seems that way, I managed to boot up my N95 one last time just as the courier from Orange arrived to exchange handsets. I quickly connected it to my PC and used PC suite which backed it up successfully.
    When I tried to restore the backup, it restored nothing but as I said before, I was able to restore a much older phone based memory card backup. If I'd done this then in theory I'd have lost nothing.
    It may be possible to use utilities like Noki to drag the Contacts and SMS information out of the .NBU file, there's a trial version that's free to download.

  • N95 and Toyota Bluetooth hands-free system

    On 11th March I purchased a used (55 plate) Toyota Corolla Verso and as part of the deal had the Toyota Bluetooth hands-free system installed.
    Everything worked fine with my Sony K600i which has eventually given up the ghost and required replacement.
    I opted for the Nokia N95 and after a short wait due to stock availability it was delivered to my home address on Friday 4th May.
    My initial "very impressed" thoughts soon changed to disappointment when I tried to pair the N95 with the Toyota hands-free system...
    Unlike the Sony, the phone does not automatically detect that the Toyota system is searching for it.. but I can bypass this by manually searching for other devices with the phone whilst the Toyota system is searching.
    I'm then asked to input the pass code (default 1234) on the phone... which I do... and the Toyota system announces that the pairing has been successfull... connection in progress... however the phone then flashes a message stating that it is not possible to pair with the Toyota system at which point the Toyota system declares "connection failed".
    I've tried numerous times now with Remote Sim on and off, deleting all paired devices and starting from scratch etc etc...
    I've been and spoken to the Toyota Dealership and of course they claim that there's nothing wrong with the car kit - it worked with the phone I had when I bought the car and it's not their fault I've changed to a phone which is incompatible.
    As far as I can tell, the N95 has Bluetooth 2.0 installed (so did the Sony) and I understand that this *is* backwardly compatible and as such should meet the technical requirements of the Toyota System... however the lady on the service desk at the Toyota Dealership stated that there could be other issues too, but was either not able or not willing to specify what those issues would be. She suggested that the only way they would possibly be able to do anything about it would be only if Customer Relations gave them authorisation to do so and gave me their telephone number (01737 363633).
    Having spoken to Toyota Customer Relations, they simply infer that it's my fault for purchasing a phone that is not compatible - but even they declined to provide me with documentary evidence (which they claim to have) proving that it is not compatible. Instead they suggested that the only course of action I would possibly have would be to speak with the dealership.... who have of course already told me that they are not able to do anything without the say so of Toyota Customer Relations.
    I get the feeling someone isn't quite telling the truth...
    I figure that the only way I'm going to have any recourse with Toyota is to prove beyond doubt that the phone is compatible with the requirements of the Toyota system... according to the Toyota Bluetooth hands-free system owners manual I merely need to ensure that any desired phone supports Bluetooth hands-free profiel 0.96 or 1.0.
    I've tried asking O2 - they didn't know the answer and suggested I should call Nokia.
    I've called Nokia on the following numbers:
    08450 545454
    08700 555777
    09067 547540 (premium rate £0.75 per minute)
    08706 092832
    08450 045555
    Each without success... note that the 08706 092832 number was answered by an extremely unhelpful, arrogant lady... you can probably sense I'm beginning to get a little irate now...
    I've also tried to call Nokia on 08450 045555 given to me both by the Nokia website and the arrogant lady I refer to above...
    At the time of writing this post, I've had the phone to my ear ringing away for 1 hour 16 minutes and counting....
    1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.... (Me catching my breath so as to stay calm)
    Can anybody whatsoever with the slightest element of confidence tell me whether the Nokia N95 supports Bluetooth hands-free profile 0.96 or 1.0??
    Any advice, assistance, stress and frustration relief would VERY much appreciated.

    Hello again... I thought some of you may like to know that I have made some progress.
    After a rediculously long time on hold with Nokia I eventually opted to hang up and call back... frustratingly I did of course get through straight away only to be told that it was actually one of their quieter days and that there was no reason (as far as the guy knew) why I should have been on hold for so long... regardless... the guy was extremely helpful.
    I explained my issue in detail and he advised that as far as he knew, because the phone has Bluetooth version 2, it could/would/should be compatible.
    Separately I had also emailed Club Nokia with the full details of my issue.
    I had also logged an appeal with Toyota Customer Services (Head Office).
    Initially Toyota's response was that technology moves so fast, specifically the mobile phone industry, that technology such as car kits etc are often left inferior. As polite as they were, they basically washed their hands of the problem putting the blame squarely at my feet for purchasing a phone that in their opinion was incompatible.
    My appeals regarding viewing it as unreasonable that having only bought the car in March of this year and one part of it already being relegated to a fancy dashboard accessory that doesn't really do much apart from ignore my requests to pair with my phone, fell on deaf ears to say the least. Even though I had directed them towards this and at least one other online forum upon which other Toyota owners claimed to have had their Bluetooth system upgraded under warranty.
    Then an email reply arrived from Club Nokia. It specifically stated, "this handset [Nokia N95] has a bluetooth version of 2.0 and does support the headset profile"
    Of course, this prompted an immediate phone call to Toyota Customer Services again... quoting my reference number (for my earlier conversation(s) with them) and informing them of the information/clarification received from Club Nokia their tone shifted a little and I was told that they would call me back.
    A couple of days later I received a phone call from Customer Services informing me that they had authorised my local dealer to upgrade the Bluetooth system under warranty.
    Approximately two days later I had a phone call from the Dealer informing me that the part(s) had been ordered.
    And as I sit here typing this right now, they're fitting the new system to my car.
    Granted I think there's a chance both the guy I spoke to at Nokia and the emailed response from Club Nokia miss the point slightly as they appear to be relying on the fact that the phone has Bluetooth V2.0 and therefore *is* compatible... this may not necessarily be the case - somebody suggested in an earlier post that the phone is only compatible with handsfree profile 1.5...
    However, if Nokia are telling me it's compatible I figured I'd quote that to Toyota and see what happened (afterall I'm not telling porkies, I'm simply passing on the info I obtained from the people who *should* know)...
    I think this proves a little persistance certainly goes a long way!
    (I guess I just need to test the damn thing when I get my car back later today)

  • Who has the phone unlocking code for an N95 to ope...

    I'm awaiting my N95 unlocking code from Orange because they say Nokia have to issue it. But my girlfriend asked for her N95 code from her network (Vodafone) the day after and was given it straight away, after giving the customer services rep her IMEI number. So are the codes issued to the networks from Nokia upon request, or do the networks already have all the codes?
    3210, 3330, 7600, 3650, 6600, 6670, N80, N95, N96, N97, N900!!

    Last week i Enquired to my local Mobile Shop about the Unlocking of My N95 (On Orange),£20 and 4 weeks was the reply.
    Contract finished this week i called Orange,reply was £20 and 2 weeks,i said OK Email me the Code,it arrived within 48 Hours of my Request.
    Following the Foolproof instructions,it was Unlocked within 2 minutes.
    Each Code is Unique to Your Handset,thats why they ask for Your IMEI Number,under the Battery.
    Some Mobile shops have Acces to the Vodaphone Database,but since the Unlocking Box costs £3,000+,they will also charge You £20.
    Dont be fooled by the £5 Offers,they Dont work and could Disable Your £300 Mobile!!
    The Networks have the Codes,Not Nokia.

  • Better Battery for the N95?

    Hello everyone
    This is my first post on the support site and I'm disappointed to see that I'm not alone in experiencing problems with the N95 and specifically the shockingly poor battery life. My last Nokia was an N70 and I don't agree with other people who had said that poor battery life is a feature of the N series phones as I could go almost 3 weeks between charges. I find that even with only moderate use the battery in my N95 goes from a full charge to empty within 5 days (approximately only 70 hours) and I don't see the point in having a phone with all of these features if you have to charge it every few days. I'm not using the GPS function, WLAN scanning is switched off as is Bluetooth and I'm only sending a few text messages a day and making a couple of calls yet everytime that I look at the display the battery has gone down another notch. Looking in the Vodafone catalogue the standby time is quoted at up to 260 hours but I would love someone from Nokia to demonstrate how they managed to arrive at this figure.
    I love the features of the phone (I've not had any other problems so far!)but I feel that Nokia have released the N95 with a very poor battery (like the old Ipods) and the poor consumer is left to try muddle along trying to save battery life.
    Does anyone know if Nokia are planning to release an updated battery that might actually last a decent amount of time between charges?

    Sounds like you had everything running: 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, screen at max brightness etc. That would affect battery life.
    Also, there are many people who believe that battery life can be optimised by conditioning the battery when you first get it: run the battery all the way down and charge over night for the first 3 or 4 cycles.

    Running GPS is really going to take it out of the battery: the GPS receiver is working, the processor is working, the screen's on - basically the battery is getting hammered.
    I get a similar affect running SatNav with my N80 and that uses an external GPS, ie: one that's not powered by the phone's battery.

    Again, the phone was working pretty hard for an hour there - you should think of that as at least the equivalent of having made a 1 hour call.

    Almost certainly not: most of the previous N-series phones have had the same issues and none of their batteries have been upgraded.

    There are plenty of threads about this, so I guess it's quite common - though I notice a lot of people reporting that battery life is actually better than they had with the N95's predecessor, the N80.

  • N95 and battery

    hi i have had an N95 since june 2007 - i love it but there is one thing that is irritating me and thats the battery (BL-5F 950 mAh 3.7v ) it goes down v quickly and sometimes the phone dies quite suddenly. eg every two days - i don't use it continuously or anything like that - some texting a few phone calls,a few photos and a little bit of surfing. the other day it was warning me the battery was low - i put on charge in my car for a about 15 mins to boost it up and then walked round town and then realised my phone had crashed - this doesn't seem right to me. What do you think - should i contact o2 who i've my contract with or what??

    The same recently happened to me - battery just fading away after half a day - when not even using it to make calls / surf / bluetooth etc... Usually the battery lasted about 2 days (well it did for the first 6 months !)
    I got a free replacement from T Mobile but that seemed to do the same (I'm still not sure if it was a brand new battery they sent me or a refurb.) So I sent the second battery back, stating it too was faulty. I now have the Third replacement battery (They made a point of telling me that they were going to send me a brand new battery - but it still arrived loose in an envelope - looking a bit worn I might add!) and guess what ? Same problem.
    The only thing I can think of is that I upgraded the software recently (to 12.0.013 - From 11.0.026) and this has caused the problems - either that or 3 "new" batteries mysteriously failed at the same time.
    *** I just did an experiment with the GPS function (my wife has the same phone - no battery problems) ***
    I just tried MAPS - It seems that after upgrading my phone software - my phone can now get a GPS fix between 5 and 45 seconds - hers still doesn't have a GPS fix after 10 mins! Does this mean that the latest software is running the GPS receiver in the background? and consequently draining my battery much more than it used to?
    I am not very happy if this is the case, as although I occasionally use the navigation function on my phone - I'd rather start the GPS up a few minutes before I go somewhere and have my battery last 2 days rather than half a day - Just so that I can occasionally get a quick GPS fix !
    ....Any one else experience any similar battery problems ?
    Oh, I almost forgot - in answer to the above question, you can purchase the N95 8GB battery and put it in the N95 - it lasts much longer. Nokia beefed it up a fair bit for the "black N95 with more memory".
    -So my advice is buy the BL-5G battery as a replacement for the "weedier" BL-5F. I think that's probably what I'll be forced to do if I can't resolve this power draining problem.
